Love this place! Love the "seasoned " atmosphere. Just had lunch there today and have to report everything was great, our waitress was on top of everything and friendly, our food and drinks perfect. Have been coming here for 30 years and never had a bad experience, in fact, when my kids are back from out west, it's always , "can we go to the Bull and Claw." I can't report on the beef though I've seen it and it looks great, just can't help from ordering my favorite fresh clams and scallops. Maybe next time. read more

This was one of the worst seafood dinners I have ever had in my life. No flavor, at all. I'm not sure the scallops were even real scallops. And my wife's pasta.... Chef boyardee would have been a better choice. read more

Disappointment today, out of the beer selection I wanted and always have here. Strike one. The meal was good, but on ordering our dessert, they no longer have/make the dessert pictured in the menu that we have had before. Instead a made-up unappetizing undercooked pastry with ice cream, sparsely drizzled with "caramel". Strike two. In the future if there is a strike three, we'll be out for good. I have been to this place many times... My wife and I now always try to make it on the weekends especially. Our last trip... last weekend First, such a friendly staff from seating or directing you to the bar area a pleasant experience. We did have 2 bartenders one after the other...an older lady Joyce who loves the baton, not great when trying to multitask with several drinks it can be overwhelming, and yes wait time a tad longer but, should focus more on the drinks than the baton, and the second I believe Barbara she is from Canada I think she said, she is sweetest down the earth woman you will ever meet. Great with customer interaction excellent with drinks very intuitive on taking everyones food order and never missed a beat... like it was a science... Drinks, place settings, then dinner rolls, then the meals... It seem like everyone at the full bar was so happy. We really fell in love with this place even more...And then to make our evening that much more pleasurable, we met some locals. they sat at the end of the bar, and it was like watching a free comedy show... These people were just full of laughs and interacted with everyone at the bar. They were not just your stuck up locals that many restaurants have. They introduce themselves and we all got to know each other, it was just an amazing evening Joe, Dave, Carole and Billy. 3 of us met for lunch and were put off immediately by a grumpy hostess. This is not our first time and have always appreciated their senior menu. When we asked we were told they are no longer offering this menu. Our waitress made up for the hostess and was very sweet and friendly. We ended up ordering from their smaller bites section. 2 of us had the 6oz sirloin and one had the turkey dinner. None of the meals come with a potato and that seemed a bit off to us. The steaks were ordered med rare. Very thin steaks arrived ,well done and dry. The turkey dinner was just something you might get at a supermarket, processed turkey, bad stuffing and canned gravy. This place had interesting decor for being a meat and seafood restaurant, dolls in glass cases, lamps at each table, random stuffed animals at entrance. It was definitely an interesting look but made it unique. The soup+salad bar was a nice touch as not many places do it that much anymore. Everyone in our party got sirloin steaks, I got the 14oz and for being a sirloin it was extremely fatty. Mashed potatoes with beef gravy were disgusting, gravy tasted like it was stored in a musty basement for years, broccoli that was served with the meal was just frozen broccoli warmed in a microwave, nothing special, tasted mushy. Overall this place was okay, prices were high for what you get but it is what it is. "Sandwich" was several slices of toast with a rubbery steak on top. Second dinner ordered ravioli and meatballs; no meatballs were on the plate. Service was virtually non-existent. We were visiting the area and the motel we were staying at recommended the Bull and Claw. We went on a night when they were short staffed as so many places are these days. One cook for all these people? Are you kidding me? We almost left after waiting awhile. So glad we did not! Not only was the food delicious and perfectly prepared, the salad bar was excellent too! Our server, Dorothy was sweet and attentive and hard working. When you're short staffed, part of the difficulty is coordination. If you seat too many people at once, they're waiting at their table too long and so on. The hostess was professionally synchronized with the staff to keep everyone satisfied and moving along smoothly. Came with our 2 kids on a Friday night. It wasn't too busy, but was steady. We got the " light" meals for 8.99 ( or thereabouts), with the soup and salad bar. The place was nice and our waitress was outstanding. The older lady who was the hostess seated us apparently lost her smile and enthusiasm in her job. She seemed to be suffering from a cold or allergies. I watched her while we waited to be seated. She carried a tissue around dabbing her nose while carrying menus and seating guests. Yuck. Just yuck. As we were leaving I overheard her telling a waitress that a table wanted more rolls and to make sure she charged them. Tried the Bull and Claw for the first time. Right off, our waitress was put off because we asked for a table instead of the booth. She was curt the entire time; seeming to be annoyed when we asked what was the veg. of the day; slapping the plates down, so hard that steak "juice" slashed on my shirt. My sister had asked for ranch dressing for her baked potato - the waitress came back with out it and said the ranch dressing was at the salad bar. Wow ! What a nightmare . We've been going here for YEARS . We always love their soup and salad bar . I went by myself yesterday . They were kind of busy and are obviously short staffed . I sat down and immediately ordered Rustler's Rib medium WELL . I got the soup and salad bar and waited for my meal . I waited and waited . I got another salad . The waitress finally brought my steak and walked away . It was tomato red inside . There was no seasoning on it either . Nothing Rustler's about it . I couldn't eat it . The waitress never came back to check on my meal ! I had to flag down the manager to have them cook my steak . She finally brought a cooked one but didn't refill my soda so I had no drink with my meal . She never came back to fill it . I finally just had her put my steak in a box . I was there for 2 hours ! The waitress said she had a party of eleven . She had a party of eleven so she ignored one ? They should warn you when you walk in it's going to take 2 hours to get your meal ! We dined here while attending the Christmas Prelude in Kennebunkport. The service was not the greatest. Right off the bat we waited a very long time for a waiter/waitress to come to our table. It was discovered the host forgot to assign us a waitress, which he openly admitted to. Ok, mistakes happen. They offered us a free salad bar for the error. So what went wrong, well it was all down hill from there. When I tried to order a drink I was told my first two choices they no longer have. They were on the menu and are local favorites such as Baxter's and Sam Adams seasonal. I ended up ordering the Shipyard Prelude they brought me the wrong beer. Adding further frustration when I tried to order haddock and clams they refused to cook the haddock Broiled instead of fried. I ended up having a clam roll which had no taste or flavor. My wife ordered the lobster roll which had a generous amount of lobster meat, large in size, however, she has felt nauseous with an upset stomach since. I should really be given this establishment 1 star as the food and service was awful. However, the waitress we had did notice we were left unattended and came by to check on us. For that I will give them 2 stars. The bottom line is we certainly won't be coming back here again. The food was nothing special and the service left much to be desired. read more

The appetizers were 3/5 stars. Good but not great. Fried mushrooms were the best out of the 3 apps we got (fried mushrooms, fried mozzarella and Buffalo chicken tenders). The rolls were good as well. When it came to dinner, the steaks were decent. If you get the surf and turf with the scallops, the breading was extremely thick and they cut the scallops in half to make it seem like there is more food than there is. We dined on Wednesday night, and we ordered the prime rib. By the appearance, it was evident the prime rib was days old and reheated. The prime rib was ordered rare and came medium with absolutely no juices around the meat. The meat was warm/cold and was extremely chewy! Do not order. Biggest waste of $30 we have ever spent! This review is coming from a chef himself who has cooked/eaten prime rib hundreds of times, and stated this was the worst prime rib he has ever tasted. read more

Had 2 meals here this past week while visiting Maine with family. Excellent variety on the menu - everyone in the family found something they thoroughly enjoyed. I have quite a soft spot in my heart for the old school New England family restaurant that still finds room for a full turkey dinner (with all the fixings!) on their menu, so suffice to say I went home happy and quite full both days. This place looks like it might have been a really nice restaurant at one time, but they have just let it go. They seem to cater their menu and decor to senior citizens, and as a result, the food is average, somewhat bland, and the service is very pleasant. Cheyenne, our server, was awesome. She couldn't have done anything else to make our visit a pleasant one. She was courteous, friendly, and extremely helpful. My husband and I both had prime rib which was delicious. I had the smaller size and still could not finish it. He also had a lobster which was excellent. although the food was great One of the hostesses make a rude comment about my service dog that I had with me ( my dog was well behaved and visibly tagged as a service animal) This hostess proceeded to loudly talk to another patron stating that "Dogs don't belong here"! My Mother and I ate at this place over thirty years ago and had a terrible meal. I, and a friend, were willing to try it two days ago. Things have not changed. Excellent were the waitress and salad bar. My friend's eggplant parm and pasta, she said, was the worst meal she'd ever eaten. The eggplant was laden with moisture like a wet sponge and the pasta was mushy and way overcooked. Both were inedible. My fried clam and scallop combo was so-so. There is a reason there's a line of customers waiting to get in to The Maine Diner across the street and hardly any vehicles parked in the lot at The Bull and Claw. read more

Posted on Facebook.. this is horrible. Thought I'd share. Hello there. I needed to put this message out there to people. I went here this afternoon for lunch and I was treated horribly. I explained to the waitress that I had bariatric surgery and asked if the open face steak was a center cut steak with little to no fat and she said yes. I got my meal and it was completely fat. Unfortunately, I don't like to complain but I could not eat it due to this. So I told them that I needed to send it back and would just have my soup and salad. They said they would take the meal off which they didn't. When I asked they yelled at me and the owner whipped the steak onto the table, like literally just the steak. I said to the waitress thank you and she said next time don't order a steak and that I was just looking for a free meal. The people on both sides of me told me how unprofessional this was and that it wasn't my fault. While I was leaving with tears in my eyes I told the hostess we wouldn't be back again and she went and got the owner who whipped the steak onto the table once again who threw open the door and told me to get the blank out of here.
