My Mother and I ate at this place over thirty years ago and had a terrible meal. I, and a friend, were willing to try it two days ago. Things have not changed. Excellent were the waitress and salad bar. My friend's eggplant parm and pasta, she said, was the worst meal she'd ever eaten. The eggplant was laden with moisture like a wet sponge and the pasta was mushy and way overcooked. Both were inedible. My fried clam and scallop combo was so-so. There is a reason there's a line of customers waiting to get in to The Maine Diner across the street and hardly any vehicles parked in the lot at The Bull and Claw. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time yesterday and it was wonderful. We went for lunch. Everything was superb, from the hostess which seated us at a cozy booth, the waitress that couldn't have been more accommodating to the food which was delicious. We both had the soup and salad bar- which was $3.49 if you ordered an entree- what a bargain. There were 3 soups to choose from; Italian Wedding with meatballs, Beef Vegetable, and Corn chowder. The salad bar was great (and fresh!), with an ample assortment of items and dressings, and freshly baked rolls with butter if you so choose. For the entree we both had the baked Haddock which came with your choice of potato (we had the mashed) and vegetable (which was carrots). The carrots weren't overcooked but tasted a little sweet for our liking. The dinners were nice and hot, the fish was baked perfectly. For some folks the decor may seem dated but we enjoyed it. The place was clean, the seating was comfortable and the atmosphere warm and friendly. There was a gas fireplace that added to the warmth. We don't live in Maine but will definitely be back to dine the next time we visit! read more

I explained to the waitress that I had bariatric surgery and asked if the open face steak was a center cut steak with little to no fat and she said yes. I got my meal and it was completely fat. Unfortunately, I don't like to complain but I could not eat it due to this. So I told them that I needed to send it back and would just have my soup and salad. They said they would take the meal off which they didn't. When I asked they yelled at me and the owner whipped the steak onto the table, like literally just the steak. I said to the waitress thank you and she said next time don't order a steak and that I was just looking for a free meal. The people on both sides of me told me how unprofessional this was and that it wasn't my fault. While I was leaving with tears in my eyes I told the hostess we wouldn't be back again and she went and got the owner who whipped the steak onto the table once again who threw open the door and told me to get the blank out of here. Went here with my friend Janat for lunch. We were going someplace else but it was closed for vacation. I'm so glad we tried the Bull and Claw. It is very spacious with comfortable booths and there was a fire going, which was nice. The entry way was lovely with the Christmas decorations. Janat had the whole belly clam roll and I had the fried haddock. They were both cooked to perfection - loved the breading, it was crispy and flavorful and not greasy. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but not overly so. The prices were good too! We were both very happy with our experience at the Bull and Claw. Will definitely be back! read more

Service was good. Food was plentiful but not of great quality. Steak was cooked right but wasn't a great cut of meat, very fatty with very little taste. If I could select zero stars, I would. We stopped in for lunch at 12:30pm on a Sunday. There was a lobby full of people waiting to be seated and no hostess at the front desk. We waited for 15 minutes and no hostess ever arrived. Another patron found the manager and explained that there was a lobby full of people waiting and the manager's response was "too bad". Yes, it was too bad for them when we all walked out! Such very poor customer service, I will never return. Don't waste your time here, just go to Mike's Clam Shack like we did. Terrible!!!! The bartender tried her hardest to get you a drink at the bar but she took the dining tickets before she waited on the bars. The hostess was rude when you entered to sit at the bar. I'm sorry to see the other reviews because our experience was great. We were driving home from Kennebunkport and just happened to see the sign. The internet wasn't working so I couldn't check my Yelp as I usually do. If I saw the three stars I would have questioned the stop. But I have to say I'm glad I didn't see that. It seems to be a good old fashioned family restaurant with a clean, country dining area. It wasn't out-dated or grungy looking. The parking lot was packed so it must be a favorite with the locals. We were promptly seated. Our waitress was cheerful and attentive. We ordered 6 oz sirloin from the "light menu" and the salad bar. The dinner came with steamed broccoli and one side. I was impressed that they requested and provided hand sanitizer before using the serving utensils. I could give it 5 stars but then you'd be expecting a 5 star restaurant with filet. All in all it was a great stop and we left feeling comfortable- not over stuffed. We would visit them again. read more

We were headed to another restaurant but it was packed so we went across the street to the Bull N Claw. I know this place closed for a bit due the pandemic and like most place, they are currently understaffed. Though they did have hand sanitizer at the soup and salad bar, none of the staff we saw wore masks. The young man hosting, greeted us happily and cleaned our table. The light fixtures in the booths were dim and rather dusty. Both the steak and seafood dishes were only a little more expensive than at other restaurants. We decided to go with a couple of cheaper dishes. Soup and salad was a great price but nothing too exciting. Soup tasted bland like it came from a can. When our entrees came they were pretty good. But when I finished my drink and the waitress brought a new one instead of putting it on the table, she grabbed the straw out of the glass and put in in the new one. Never have I ever seen someone handle when straw in normal time, let alone during covid. We tried it but will not be back. read more

Well, I couldn't give 0 stars or negative stars so they got 1. My wife and I eat out on average 5 nights a week, and this was the worst experience in 10 yrs at least. Had two toddler-age grandkids with us, and the staff showed no appreciation for the short window of calm that we had. She got a half glass, and the waitress informed us that we got the last drop of Cab in the house...at 5pm on a Saturday night! We placed our order, and my wife asked for a second "glass" of wine. 30 unbearable minutes passed before our waitress returned...with the meals..and no wine. Steamed clams were luke warm. We were splitting an entree but didn't receive a second plate. Didn't even get extra napkins for the steamers. We had to ask for the dessert that was supposedly included with the two kids meals. The empty plates were never cleared while the kids had there dessert and my wife finished her wine. The waitress tried to placate us by taking $3 off the bill....it was from the half-glass of wine. What was so disappointing is that we had a wonderful meal and experience at the Bull & Claw two summers ago. The food was great and the waitress was great w the kids..even replacing the glass of wine for free when the youngest one poured the grated cheese into the glass when my wife wasn't looking. Not sure if it was just our server, or the number of tables assigned, or if management has changed, but wow, what a bad experience...and by the way, the grandkids were well behaved through it all, else I probably would have walked out. read more

I went to lunch with 2 elderly friends. I asked for the senior menu advertised on bull and claw info. So ok can I have a lunch menu this was at 11:30 am we don't do that? Then there is a sign right on route 1 in wells telling all the great lunch choices. I asked for something off that sign I could see from my table. They did not have those specials. So I had to order off dinner menu and that's no bargain. We spent 78.00 for a lunch worth about 40 bucks. False advertising I will never go back beyond angry. The place was my idea. I just left this place in disgust. I am 100% service connected veteran with my perfectly behaved service dog trained by West Virginia University. I wanted closer to the salad bar because I have trouble walking. They refused. When I said I could legally go anywhere a wheelchair could go, they said they did not allow wheelchairs at the salad bar either. I wonder what they would have done if I was using my wheelchair? I am on vacation. I would have stood my ground except I was hungry and tired and in pain. Me and my 5 credit cards of vacation money left. Shame on them for not accommodating the disabled. read more

Good evening, My name is Tom Andreand I made reservations for 5 pm today. I made a note on the reservation request telling you that my wife and myself were celebrating our birthdays at your restaurant. We had a nice meal, only negative was the crab legs, small, watery, and cool. The bill came to $189. For 4 adults and a 4 year old granddaughter, not counting the $40. Dollar tip I left the waitress. I'm rather disappointed in the fact that your establishment couldn't even offer us a slice of desert. The table next to us received a piece of cake for a birthday guest. My wife and I just looked at each other wondering why you didn't acknowledge our birthdays, could of been an oversight, but a piece of cake or two would of gone a long way on our special dinner date. Ok, I read the reviews and somehow did not believe them. Maybe it is because it is off-season. We got in around 6:30, they close at 8. No prime rib. Ok, off-season and not many customers. I got the stuffed lobster, which was good, but not anything near what is across the street at the Maine Diner. Kids did not like the marinara sauce or chicken fingers. Choice sirloin was fatty and sent back for a similar cut. The haddock was excellent. 1 out of 5 meals. It is not a good sign when you leave and the kids want to go to Wendy's ! It was our third visit to the Bull n Claw , this last visit disappointing .. We had Linguine / meat sauce and Chicken Parmigiana.... The sauce really needs some zip to it ,very bland . We did bring it home to add some ZIP to it !! I am in hopes to having it for lunch tomorrow or maybe garbage bin ..... The meat was over cooked and the fettuccine Alfredo sauce was horrible and tasted like it was from a jar ! The place is not that clean !

We wound up stopping by 'that place' in Ogunquit on our first night. After a sailing trip and a bottle of chardonnay we couldn't rest without some sort of a seafood dinner, so we settled here, and were very please by the food, service, and ambiance in the upstairs dining area. A classic bowl of steamers and a delicious stuffed haddock (along with another bottle of white wine) made our night. The rest of the weekend, we couldn't help but keep thinking of this place. Asking around, it's definitely known as 'that place' - a spot for tourists to go, have a beer or a glass of wine, middle of the road food and service, etc...owners of the inn we stayed at were surprised we spoke so highly of the food and experience. To make sure it wasn't a wine-related fluke, we went back on our last night (having only had water all day!) and were in heaven again with the food. The chef there makes a lobster carbonara that will make you seriously thinking about moving to Ogunquit. For a couple of foodies like us, 'That Place' is worth coming back to, many times over!! We'll be back, and next time we'll take pictures to prove the negative Nancy's wrong. read more

Listen I hate to give horrible reviews, but this place was one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. We came here with my inlaws and had our 6 month old daughter with us. When we sat down or waiter immediately tried to take our order but none of us had even looked at the menu because we were all still getting settled with the baby and all. After this he didn't come back for a very long time and we needed a booster seat for the baby. When he finally came back and we asked he told us he didn't know where any of them were and then never even went to look. I ordered a lobster roll with no lettuce. When it finally came (after we had already been there for over an hour and a half) it had celery in it. I absolutely hate celery and also think any place in Maine that would put celery in a lobster roll doesn't deserve to call themselves a seafood place. I told the waiter I couldn't eat it and asked if they could make one without and he told me it's already mixed in and then left with no word on whether I would get another one. The lobster was also very green as there was still tamale all over it! I should also note the menu does not say the lobster roll has celery and if it had I would have ordered something else. alAfter he left I took my daughter to change her in the bathroom and the changing table was disgusting so j just decided to take her out to the car. She as also really tired since the whole thing had taken so long so I put her in her car seat and stayed in the car with her. My husband went back inside to say goodbye to our family. When he came back he brought my replacement lobster roll they had made. No celery and clean lobster which was nice but once I bit into it I could tell it was frozen lobster, not fresh. No seafood place in Maine should ever be serving frozen lobster in a lobster roll! Among other issues were the insanely small size of my husbands grandmothers dish and the fact that the wait t was really rude about her asking to substitute potato for her carrots. Oh and their "house made pickles" we're just slightly salty cucumbers. So to summarize, the food wasn't any good, the wait was atrocious considering it was over half empty, and our waiter was so rude and neglectful it is shocking how he could possibly in fact be a a waiter, let alone at a "seafood" place on Rt 1 in Wells. We came for lunch ad had the salmon. It was not cooked all the way so the middle was still very pink and raw. The crab stuffing on top was very good, the potatoes were good as well. We had the salad bar and soup with it. Nice salad bar with good options. I am do not eat meat except for seafood and even though there were 3 soups they were all meat choices. Our server was nice. My husband and I stopped into this seafood restaurant on Route 1 in Wells. When we first walked in we were a little put off by the extremely outdated 70s and 90s decor. However, we were so tired from our road trip that we didn't let it stop us from taking in a meal at this place. It was a young Scandinavian man who was over-the-top friendly with us and my toddler son. It was seriously the best service experience we've had at a restaurant in years and our every need was attended to. I have to completely disagree with another review stating that this place was 'dirty.' I took a quick walk around the restaurant as I headed to the salad bar. I peeked into the kitchen area and it was spotless. The bathroom was sparkling clean as well (and we were there on a Saturday). The salad bar was OK. It had basic salad items, pasta salads, etc. The soup bar was yummy and I loved the corn chowder. Both were definitely a great deal at $3.49. And mine came free because I ordered one of the specials! My husband is a hamburger guy and ordered the basic hamburger cooked medium. The hamburger was cooked perfectly and my husband raved about it. My toddler son has the chicken fingers and fries which were both yummy. I ordered the pork with mango chutney which was a listed special. I wasn't crazy about the pork (which has more to do with me than the dish itself). However, everything else was great. Loved their mashed potatoes. There were 2 other couples eating at this place while we were there and both tables ordered seafood. I watched their plates coming out and the food looked amazing. Next time we go here I'm trying their seafood! If there were one piece of advice I could give to the owner of this restaurant - do some very basic updates to your restaurant. I think you are losing a lot of business because of how the restaurant looks. Paint the walls a fresh, clean color (ie white), get more modern chairs, change the curtains between the booths to something a little more modern, and switch out those light fixtures. It will change the whole feel of your restaurant. I am giving this restaurant a 5-star rating because, again, the service was amazing. The place was clean. The food was decent. We stayed at Old Orchard Beach, so we drove almost 30 minutes to get to Bull and Claw. The food was delicious! I had the delmonico ribeye steak. Wow! It was so good! Best steak I have had in a while! Also, they had a great salad bar with several different pastas. The ranch pasta salad and macaroni salads were my favorites. The waitress was very nice and informative, her name was Denise. They offered the kids dessert even though it was closing time. They also gave them children's poetry books that a local Man had written. We will be back the next time we visit old Orchard Beach. read more
