Ever since living with a family in a small Vietnamese city of My Tho a few years back, I have been on the hunt for authentic Vietnamese food in the SF Valley, where I live now. Thankfully, there's lots of great Pho to be had these days, but if there is Bahn Mi on the menu, it's usually an afterthought...that is, until Bun Me! appeared! Yeehaw! Simple, fresh and straight to the point. The sandwiches have excellent flavor. Their Goi Cuon (summer rolls) are done just right, which is rare. They also have the Bò Kho beef stew that you almost never see in the US. Some people complain about the limited menu, but offering few things on the menu means a restaurant that knows its strengths and focuses on them. They periodically add a new item, but that's only after they've tested it out as a special for a long time. On top of all that, the family that runs the places are incredibly friendly and likable. I go once a week and have noticed more and more 'regulars' there, like myself. I've taken many friends here with great results, but I almost hate to tell anyone else about it, since Bun Me! periodically sell out of items. Alas, with 80 reviews and counting... it seems the secret's already out. Overall, good & fresh ingredients, prompt service and a great atmosphere. Easy 5 stars. By far the best pho I have had on reseda. I get around Northridge pho joints. The Banh mi is really good. Today was exceptional great customer service, she even knew the right amount of hoisin to hot sauce ratio! Fresh fresh vegetables and delicious .. I will be back for lunch!!! I've always been a fan of super delicious and super cheap banh mi, and though this place may be on the slightly pricier side, it makes up for it in extra deliciousness. Their grilled tofu is always perfect, in both the sandwiches and the vermicelli bowls. It's more often than not hard to decide to not go here than it is to decide to actually go. read more

Great food. The service is good and the food is made in a timely manner. The only knock against it would be the lack of seating, there are only 6 small two-seat tables inside and two outside. If you're looking for a place to dine in this is a good place, however if you're looking for a place to takeout food its great. read more

Bun me is a great lunch spot. I like their food and the people who work here are really friendly. I do not live in the area and every time I am in Northridge this is one of my fav spots. This is a small place and they only have six tables inside. So, on really busy days it is hard to find seating. My favorite Vietnamese sandwich place I ever tasted. I usually don't like eating bun mi because of the hard the bread is from the other places. With Bun Me!, the bread seems to be fresh every time. Then there's the protein. The chicken and steak are marinated very well and are delicious. They also have drinks available that are made using real fruits. None of that powder junk. read more

I was super excited to try bun me because of all the great reviews! But unfortunately I was very disappointed my lemon grass chicken sandwich was very bland and some of the chicken was so hard I couldn't even chew it. I was waiting for the burst of Flavors but I got nothing. The carrots don't even taste pickled.... i don't think I'll be coming back. I will start of by saying that I have a forever loyalty to Lee's Sandwiches, which this is clearly a knock off of. I will also say that the closest Lee's is also an hour out so this might have to do. I love me some Vietnamese sandwiches, but I don't like prices that increase just for the environment, but other than that, this place isnt too bad. What I ordered: Grilled Chicken Sandwich (bun me), Thai Iced Tea with Boba (drink me), and Combo Pho (eat me.... somehow I felt violated by this one). I ordered the grilled chicken because that is the best option from Lee's. The sandwich came in a french bun, moderate size, and could probably satisfy the average female. Sub par chicken with cilantro carrots and other goodies inside (Be sure to ask for the jalepenos on the side if you don't like REALLY spicy... your colon will feel it later). The Thai iced tea wasnt too bad. I mixed it myself, which made me feel like the tea was more legit and the boba was soft and gooey, which is the only way I'll take my little black balls. Lastly the the Pho. I love me some pho, but I like to make it the way I like it. This pho was already sutffed with goodies, except basil. I didn't even have to add any sauce. I like adding my ingredients, including the sauce, but I couldnt or it would have gotten way too salty, as it was already salty enough. They also give you edible Styrofoam as well. The price: 4.35 for the sandwich, which if you have ever been to Lee's you know that one of theirs (which is better) is less than 3 bucks. $3 for the boba, and $5.95 for the pho. The Jive: Really small location with limited seating. Taking your food to go would be a better option, but it is clean and the staff is extremely friendly, smiling, quick, and concerned about their customers. Being so close to CSUN, it does have a bit of hipster vibe, with college students coming in and out, which definitely makes it more for the younger crowd. My ruling is that I would not go here unless someone I knew wanted to. The food isn't bad and I enjoy supporting good service, but if you are looking for a better priced, better flavored (worse for you), Vietnamese sandwich I suggest Lee's sandwiches or Sandwich express in Reseda. read more

I've been here many times and the food is generally pretty good, but the service is inconsistent. So this time, I approach the counter to order. This young guy just gives me a strange look. Says nothing. Looks irritated then abruptly leaves as I study the menu. Comes back, says nothing. No eye contact. Says nothing. (Having a bad day?) I ask him about sandwich #1. He responds with a curt answer. No eye contact. I order. He yells out the order in Vietnamese (without turning his head to the cook). Startled, but still, I pay. He gives me change. Still no word (to me anyway) and still no eye contact. Very strange exchange. Strange person. I eat and I leave. Return? Probably not. read more

It's a small, family-owned, hole-in-the-wall type of location, but it's honestly one of my favorite places in the valley. It's clean, well managed and the perfect spot of a bit of lunch or a light dinner. The owners are very nice and I've known them a while, they'll ask after my family and my health. Now, for the food. I love Vietnamese and Thai food already, so I may be a bit biased, but it's easily some of the best food I've ever had from a place like this. My go-to meal is always 1 order of shrimp summer rolls, with a Grilled Steak (or chicken) Bahn Mi and a Thai Iced Tea with glass jelly. The food is always consistent and delicious, which has made me a customer for life. It's kept me coming back long after moving a distance away that makes weekly trips inconvenient. The downsides are the extremely limited seating (5 tables inside, 2 outside, for the location, but sometimes, during the lunch rush, one will have to find seating at one of the other establishments on the strip). All in all, if you're looking for well-priced Vietnamese Bahn Mi, vermicelli salads, phō, or any other Southeast Asian delicacies in the Reseda/Northridge area, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Bun Me. read more

Stopped here on way home. Four stars for the pho bo (had it with bo vien). Nice, well balanced broth without too much star anise. The banh mi with char siu was ok, but not great and I'd give it three stars. You can purchase Vietnamese baguettes at the store which is a nice option if you like making your own sandwiches. Horrible restaurant, would not recommend. I ordered a mushroom sandwich and was very dissatisfied when it was slathered with mayo, when I specifically (and repeatedly) asked for no mayo. Also, the egg rolls are very disappointing. They come to you over-fried, filled with mushy, gooey vegetables. This is the taste/look of every frozen egg roll I've had, from those at Panda Express to that of any supermarket frozen aisle. I would not recommend you order these, they definitely taste like they are out of the box, not fresh. If I could, this establishment would get a zero from me. I came here not too long ago. When my order was called, the cashier, instead of placing my food on the counter or handing it to me like a normal person, decided to place my food at the very back of the counter forcing me to reach for it. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but then she handed the next order their food! Why was I treated differently? It doesn't matter how good the food is if the service ruins your appetite. The banh mi buns are so good, I always get the caramelized pork bun, and they're affordable $5.25. It's very fresh, it has a nice kick (the jalapeños), and the meat is savory, they also serve it with a couple of chips. I am a big fan of their shrimp spring rolls, they're very fresh and it comes with a peanut sauce. I've also tried their pho beef noodles and it was great, lots of complimentary flavors.The cashiers are always very friendly. Highly recommend this place. read more
