I will not be returning to this location. They have been going down hill for the past few months. This evening I went to the drive through menu on the right side & I just sat there as I watched three cars go through the left menu side. I'm very patient but after I honked my horn I realized nobody was working my side. Myself & the car behind me proceeded to the window. The guy at the window told me they were short staffed and that he was "exhausted" & they didn't have anyone for the other side. I placed my order & when they brought it out, gravy spilled on my pants and on the door of my car! I asked for gravy on the side & instead I received a soaked bag with a soaked sandwich. By the way, drive through guy was also bringing food to the cars...So after talking with two workers (although they were both pleasant) I asked for my beef sandwich to be re-made, which they did, I wasn't offered any type of compensation or a free item. They just apologized, and yes I showed them the spilled gravy. I have been a satisfied customer at your Oak Park location for 13 years...I'll wait until I'm out there to eat Buona again. read more

Two out of three times that I have been here they have messed up my very SIMPLE order for my kids. The first time they put cheese when I ordered a burger. The next time I ordered a double cheeseburger and got a single cheeseburger and paid for a double. Both times were through the drive-through and I discovered it after I left. Luckily the second time I discovered it I pulled over a block away to verify. JANSONS OR TOPNOTCH from now on! Overall friendly, clean and quick service and I still like Buona Beef more than that other place to be nameless that everyone says you should go to. Which maybe you should since the odds of you being out this way are very slim unless you're in town around St. Patrick's day weekend and come up for the parade. This area for the most part is very residential with a smattering of local businesses. However if you do find yourself up this way and want to fill up before hitting up one of the Irish bars this could do. They do have other stuff other than beefs, there is a selection of salads, hamburgers, and sandwiches, I almost ordered a BLT with avocado and on second though I remembered I had all the ingredients for that at home. So I stuck with the 7" combo. Beef, fries and a drink. They have a three iced teas, two are unsweetened which is a nice option. If you like your fries with any sense of being done like a traditional fry order them crispy. Here is where I got a little annoyed, the young lady repeated the order back, didn't say fries (crispy) so I reminded her, she then gave me a I got it look and said crispy. The fries arrived looking almost translucent, so they got sent back, meanwhile I'm halfway done with my beef so I get up and find where the food comes up and there are my fries sitting under the light, and the young lady standing right there in a momentarily lapse of why I'd be looking around, she then says, "oh the fries." In any event, by that time what I already ate has settled so I wasn't hungry anymore, I still had about 3" of the 7 left. I do appreciate that she did come back and apologizes about the mix up and asked if we needed anything else, that was a nice touch. The other weird thing was this door to which they had a sign on something like "patio entrance only" since no one was sitting out there we thought let's sit here it will be quiet. Well, no. Everyone kept going in and out of it just as a regular door. Perhaps they should put black iron around their patio so it really becomes a point of exit/entry for the patio only, or remove the sign. Not the biggest deal, I moved as my chair was right there. But you may want to avoid this table that masquerades as a quiet spot on bad weather days. In the area, yes for a return. Go out of my way for it, no there are places closer. read more

Awesome addition to Beverly. I've been twice (once in the drive through and another walk in for carry out) and the service was pretty speedy considering it's made to order. I've gotten the Italian beef "wet" and it was delicious. A little messy but they do wrap the sandwich well so the mess doesn't appear until you unwrap it. Skip the fries which are just okay and save room for a shake instead. Price is comparable to similar establishments like Portillo's. read more

Per tradition when I review Buona beef. The following is a review of the Beef only. I don't go to Buffalo Wild Wings and go on here complaining about a cheeseburger. In the words of Former Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo "that's dirty pool" The drive thru was quick. I ordered 3 beef sandwiches. I told them I wanted all 3 dipped with hot peppers. They said "what do you want on your second sandwich" I said " I want all 3 the same dipped with hot peppers" They said " how do you like your 3rd sandwich" Normally I would take a star off for this but I'm having what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity. I can see past this stuff. I get the beef home. I originally thought there wasn't enough beef on there at 1st glance. The bread was good. Beef tender and 100% edible. The giardiniera for me was the best part and made the sandwich. The beef is a tad bit thicker than portillos so it didn't fill the sandwich as much. The gravy was a little thicker too. (Portillos you get more beef, sometimes I can't put away a whole beef from there. At Buona I polished my beef off without even thinking about wrapping it up) Overall I appreciate how this place wasn't a 3 ring circus like portillos. Was a tad bit better. Costed less money. I'm 190lb and a beef 7 inch hit the spot and I don't feel like a slob afterwards. Maybe I'll get a 10' inch next time. read more

A few years ago I became nearly addicted to the blueberry & (I think goat) cheese summer salad. Really good. This year, BB is a little closer, having opened in Beverly. I'm taking advantage of it to be sure. Great food, restaurant is spick & span, service is prompt & served with a smile. . Drive though experience is equally terrific. The summer salad: spinach, strawberries & avocado is great. That said, I wish they would always ask if I want chicken. I keep forgetting it's not included. I'm glad to pay for the protein!! One of my go-to spots as of late. Everything that I have tried has been delicious. My faves are the avocado jack burger, arugula verduro pizza, antipasto salad and chicken artichoke panini. Funny enough, I don't recall having ever tried the beef sandwich. They have daily specials such as $6 burger & fry Wednesdays and $5/$6 pizza Thursdays. They also have a points program and also send email specials. From 2-5 Mon-Fri, shakes are 1/2 off. The service is pretty pleasant and good, although, I have had a few return trips due to missing item incidents. Just check your order before you leave. There's seating and I think the prices are quite reasonable. So , yeah, they are definitely worth checking out. read more

Well today is opening day for Buona Beef. I drove past at 8:00 am this morning and there was a long line waiting for the restaurant to open at 10:30am (can we say faithful followers??? or just excited for a new restaurant in the Beverly area). Well, either way this place is going to be a fresh look for the area because all the restaurants that are in the area have actually been there for a long time so it will be interesting to see if they can keep the momentum up for this location. Well with all the people that came to the restaurant all day long this should be an indication that they will probably be around for a long time to come. The first time I experienced this restaurant was some years ago at the Lombard location so I was glad to see that they finally decided to come to the city. They have a vast amount of items on the menu from burgers and hot dogs to hand-rolled pizza, sandwiches and panini, salads, soups and of course their signature item, the Buona classics. I ordered a 10" and 7" classic beef which you can get prepared with sweet or hot peppers, cheese or no cheese, dry, dipped, baptized, or red sauce which is marinara. I opted to get it with sweet peppers and baptized which mean the entire sandwich is dipped not just the ends. I also ordered a crispy chicken salad which comes with a hard boiled egg, tomatoes, black olives, cheddar and warm honey mustard dressing, it also comes with a side of French bread. They also have catering so for a big game party or birthday this maybe a place you might want to think about. I didn't get a chance to actually go inside the restaurant since the line was so long so I went to the drive thru so I'm not sure if their decor is like the other location or not but once the dust settles down a little I will go back and go inside. I do think that the neighborhood will enjoy the place if someone is craving a beef sandwich because now they don't have to drive to Oaklawn to go to Portillo's if they don't want to. The only slight downside in my eyes and that may only be because the restaurant just opened but if they are going to have the customer base like Portillo's, the place is kind of small and the parking lot is not very large either which caused people to park all along Western Ave. But hey maybe they might open a second location or even relocate a couple of blocks down Western where construction is in the process right now of building a strip mall where The Plaza Mall use to be located. Just a thought (smile). But I know it took a lot to just have them to build on this spot so it will probably be ok. read more

So I stopped by today for dinner. I ordered a 5" beef combo which came with cheese fries The good, the service and the speed of preparations. Food was hot and tasted good The bad, the 5" beef sandwich was small. If I can attach a picture I measured and it was only 4". 20% of the sandwich was missing. Plus it had very little beef and seemed like they squeezed the hell out of it when they wrapped. Perhaps the wrapping process made it seem smaller Next time I will go to Portillos, seems like a better value than Bouno beef. read more

I'm usually very happy with the service and quality at this Buona location and I look forward to the home made chips... last night my husband and I got take out and by the time we got home realized that the home made chips were replaced by bag chips (I know my chips, these were Cape Cod salt and pepper kettle chips). I could have bought an entire bag of those for the price of the little handful they threw in their Buona bags... sad thing is that if they would have just told us they were out we would have understood, but this was just kinda dishonest and bait and switch. This was my 3rd time in their with my kids. I can say the food is consistent but not fabulous. I understand this is more of a fast food place and they specialize in beef sammies. But if you have other items on your menu, they should at least be decent. My kids ordered pizza. I'm sure it's pretty typical pizza. Pretty hard to screw that up I ordered the house salad without cheese or croutons and asked for double chicken. I can't eat dairy or gluten. When the salad came there was a piece of bread. I know the menu said that there was a gluten free bread option for sandwiches. So I figured I could get a piece of gluten free bread. But the swap is a corn tortilla. Not exactly an even swap. But whatever... The salad was only so-so. The cucumbers had previously been frozen because you could tell by the texture. The chicken was also cooked then froze. So I place a phone order for pick up. I ordered the chicken artichoke panini value meal which was $3.25 extra and included fries and a drink. When the person who was picking up the meals returned it was missing the drink . The chicken artichoke panini was not bad. It was a little on the salty side but overall I enjoyed it. The portion size was decent and filling. Fries were good also. I gave them 3stars because of the missing drink and the fact that my panini was salty. It can be interesting negotiating a somewhat uneven sidewalk with a heavy-ish bag and a carton of drinks. Otherwise, my order was ready when I arrived, the gal at the counter was a sweetheart, and the food was wonderful, as expected. I'm willing to write off the earlier problems as opening-week jitters. *** 4/10/2016 *** I had high expectations. After all, Buona has been around awhile and should know how to run a quickie restaurant by now. First problem: Ordering online. I was ordering 3 different kinds of sandwiches, a couple sides, and a chocolate shake... But the only shakes listed online are on the kids menu. I called the restaurant, and was told (twice) that shakes are listed under Drinks. Alas, they're not. The gal then said I'd have to order the shake when I got there. Annoying, but okay. Second problem: I get there to pick up about 55 minutes later. I find that the entrance is at the end of the building farthest from the parking lot. Who thought of that, I wonder. I get to the door; there's a sign saying, skip the line if you ordered ahead, enter around the side. Okay, except that meant tromping through muddy ground, as there's no sidewalk there. And, as an added attraction, this put me within inches of cars in the drive-up. Again, who thought of that? Third problem: I get to the counter, where the gal's voice apparently had no volume control, so she's yelling everything. Finds my order, to which a shake was added, and says it will be a couple minutes later. 15 minutes later, I ask what's the holdup; after all, the point of ordering online roughly an hour ahead is to not wait. I need to point out here that there was no place to wait other than standing at the counter; not good, if the order doesn't get made until you get there anyway. Gal says they're waiting on something, and is kind of snippy about it. A few minutes later, my order comes up. Sandwiches, sides, and shake were pretty good, but not so good that I think it was worth going through all that. I'll eventually give them another chance, but it probably won't be any time soon. read more

A high quality restaurant that serves decent Italian beef sandwiches. I only went here because my parents wanted me to desperately go out to dinner with them. The fries could use a little work. Could I get Italian beef elsewhere that is just as good and affordable, of course I could. This is Chicago. There is nothing extraordinary about their Italian beef. What is extraordinary is the rest of the menu, it is not very often you go to an Italian beef restaurant with such a varied menu. I've ordered from this Buona location ever since they opened. The last two times I've order chicken tenders for my son and they are half the size they use to be, closer to nugget size. I complained, waited 10 minutes and received a similar order. My fries were barely filled. This use to be one of my favorite restaurants to patronize but the quality has gone down. I visited this establishment on 1/16/17. This was my second visit to this location. Our first was awful.. the order was almost completely incorrect. I chalked it up to the restaurant being new. New employees, new menu, new mistakes. My visit last night didn't impress me anymore than the first. I ordered 2 beefs with mozzarella cheese & a chicken strip kids meal. When I arrived home my sandwiches were cold. The mozzarella had not even melted which tells me that the beef wasn't hot to begin with. Very disappointing! Needless to say, I won't be back. read more
