All my friends know that I don't do hole-in-the-walls, but this is one of those places where I will make an exception. It's a small room inside the Parker Meridian that's a litlte hard to find, but what a find. I'm pissed that tonight was the first time I'd gone here, as I used to work across the street from here and would have gone here every week (and be a good 10 pounds heavier) had I actually sampled the juicy delights that they call their hambugers. I had heard about this place 8 years ago whenever we went to Norma's (the restaurant inside the Parker Meridian) for drinks after work, but I am sad that I never made it to the Burger Joint until now. The ambience is definitely lacking, as it is a rather small room with a couple of booths and tables and it was jam-packed at 9pm on a Thursday night. It's a striking contrast to the poshness of the rest of the Parker Meridian. I had the luxury of going with a friend who got there way before I did, placed our order and got us seats. As others have said, there seems to be a system for ordering, where you need to know what you want when you get to the front of the line and basically wait around until they call out your name to get your food. It took a good 10 minutes for us to get our food, but the wait was well worth it. The burger was juicy and there was something about the quality of the meat that was used that was just amazing. The buns were lightly toasted, just the way I liked it. The fries, which came in a brown paper bag, were also delicious. I only wished that my friend had ordered a milkshake and it would have sent me over the edge. The burgers are on the small side, two burgers was a bit more than I wanted, but one would not have been sufficient for me. I did feel like I had to leave once I finished my meal, as other people were waiting for our booth. I am rarely impressed and I have to admit that these were good burgers. The crowd was a strange mix of bankers, tourists, and fraternity boys and it seems a bit more kitschy than I would like. The first time I walked through the hotel lobby, I thought my parents were taking me somewhere nice to eat. Past the brown velvet curtain, it took me by surprise. I didn't mind. The people behind the counter are busy and efficient! They must have sold over a hundred burgers in the time it took us to eat ours! Came here with a friend around 7pm on a Friday. The room was filled with the Most random decor and people. Contrary to what everyone has said, I received my food in less than 10mins after I ordered and conveniently got a table as I picked up our food. Ordered two burgers medium well and although It's a decent burger, I feel like I have had better.. Don't think it was worth the price. Maybe I wasn't in a burger mood or maybe I'm just an odd one... The fries are nothing special. I feel like they could have replaced them with McDonald's fries and I would have never known the difference. Overall, it was a nice experience and I did feel like I was part of some secret burger club.. Good for first timers, but I really don't think the food is worth the price. Who would have thought at Le Parker Meridien, that one would find such unexpected, down to earth, classic American Burgers + Fries. But there it was, albeit totally concealed along the depths of a narrow and dim hallway with no indication, no nomenclature but a strong perfume of oil and grease (a heavenly, unctuous vapors permeating the tall, marbled resplendent halls of hotel opulence-a decadent paradox that I could easily find refuge nestled in it's warm bosom... So it's really ridiculous how hidden this place is, I mean, you can SMELL the charring meat, but you just can't find an entrance (we had to ask the guard, and he gave us the effected cursory glance and hand gestured us...must be a common question) So down a dark, narrow path one side lined with a red velvet curtain and the other, well... a bare concrete wall past the marbled column, it looked....a little sketchy (just being honest). But it was so twisted, it was way cool, at the end there's a neon light of a burger with an arrow pointing right out of movie set of a back alley. And then you're transported into some sort of Burger speakeasy- it's like you walked into a roadside bar off the highway in Duluth... wood panelling, white brick with Sharpie markered messages, and tiniest of kitchens that I've ever seen churning out food like a madman! The clientele also fits, in an odd way, the casualness and ease of customers is definite vacuum compared to the people outside in the hotel, on 57th St in Midtown Manhattan. But definitely this place whips you back into reality with a New York attitude: a cardboard sign overhead explaining in the simplest of terms on how to order in three easy steps: two choices-with or without cheese, how it's cooked and what condiments you want to add. Undecided lollygaggers are immediately sent back to the end of the line, a la Soup Nazi (?) style. (I didn't really see that happening here for real tho). It's a cool way to ensure some sense of steady flow, and with the choices being relatively limited, the efficiency quotient is pretty high... In terms of size, this place on the small side of venues and having a large customer base is no help (I bet the majority goes back outside and eat in the Park). But we want to soak up the atmosphere and experience- a booth opened up for us by the staff so we were lucky to grab a great seat! So we just ordered Cheeseburgers with the works medium rare with Fries and a Coke. And as I have to say; the Burgers were delicious-charred perfectly, the condiments didn't overpower the meaty flavor everything melted together in your mouth harmoniously. And the Fries came in a paper bag-it was really yummy! Another shot of 'The Works'; Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Ketchup, Mayo and Mustard. To be truthful, it's not just about the Burger in this case; it's the whole experience of grabbing a Burger in such a deliberate dive inside a swank hotel in the busiest of Manhattan's streets that make the Burger Joint so incredibly special and unique. I would come here everyday in a heartbeat and soak in the cleverness and irony that either intentional or unintentional, is so cool...but hey....it's New York!! I don't know what the hype is about these burgers. They were small and tasted like nothing special. The only thing "special" about this place was the price, which is pretty steep for underwhelming food. Ok, the venue is cool, but that's pretty much what you are paying for. DO NOT get the brownie. Definitely a fan, how could you not be? The Burger Joint is located inside the Le Parker Meridian hotel (on W56th St). Unless you know where to look you might never find the Burger Joint. Oddly enough, it is hidden inside the lobby (hint: there's a mysterious line that disappears into a red curtain next to the check-in desk). You might find that you're the only American waiting inline a little annoying, but don't let that keep you from trying the Burger Joint's awesome burgers and fries. I have figured the New York burgers out. See this whole time I thought THE burger to get was Shake Shack and this place with its tourist translated pamphlets was the tourist trap. How good can your burgers really be when you have to rely on the hype of being "hidden" in a hotel, right? Wrong. One whiff of the burger joint and I was sold. This is an American burger joint. The music, the grungy scrawled notes on the wall, the booths, and that smell of burger fats cooking. There is nothing touristy about this experience in my book. Now let's talk about their cheeseburger because there is little I love more in this life than when I bite into a burger and all the fats and juices ooze out of the patty. After an evening of music at Carnegie Hall and hearing all the hype about this place, I was excited to give it a try~ Sadly, I was left high and dry with a burger that was so tiny and overcooked that I didn't know what to do with it! The guy at the cash register was really nice though, and let me order my meal even though I was $2.00 short in cash and couldn't tip him. His friends behind the bar offered up my number in exchange for the meal. It's a New York institution as far as burgers go, so you have to try it. The menu is simple, burgers and fries. Follow the directions on the wall to order. Get your burger with everything, and enjoy. There's a lot of hype around this place, but it's well deserved. The burgers here definitely fall somewhere in the top 5 you can get in the City in my opinion, I feel like it is a little pricey, but it's reasonable if you're not eating here on the reg. Went with a buddy, 2 cheeseburgers with everything, 2 fries, 2 cokes, and it was a little over $30. But if you haven't had one, do it at least once, it's worth it. I feel like a jerk writing this review because I want my rating to be much higher, but I can't justify it so we're sticking with 3 stars. Fine, 3.5 stars. Shake Shack is an almost exact dupe for the burger, and McDonalds is an almost exact dupe for the fries. I asked for a medium burger. Yup, 5 stars, THAT good of an experience. I even Instagrammed my burger (half bitten so you can really understand what's happening in there) about 10 minutes prior to this review. I can't stop thinking about it! So, I was on the hunt for a slammin cheeseburger today, and my co-worker took me here. We walk into this fancy looking hotel, which reminds me of Home Alone Christmas in NYC. This made it all the better because I'm thinking I'm gonna get some prissy, healthy, wimp of a cheeseburger...and what I end up getting is a fat, juicy, sloppy, cheesy, heavenly, slab of all american meat, better known as a slammin cheeseburger. The Burger Joint itself is actually this tiny, super cool, graffiti covered, laid back ROOM in the corner of the lobby behind a curtain. A curtain! There's this neon burger sign to help send the message. There's also an incredibly long line of hungry animals beneath the neon sign, wrapping around the curtain, so if you encounter any confusion, that's it baby. MINOR COMPLAINTS THAT AFFECTED MY EXPERIENCE BY 5%: I would have thought it would be cheaper. I think my burger and fries were $11-13 or so, no beverage. I wanted a chocolate milkshake, apparently they don't make them. They should change their menu then because that can really enrage a person. I wanted bacon on my burger, actually, I wanted a lot of bacon on my burger but they don't have that either. Besides that, my burger rocked my world. I asked for medium rare, and got it half-mooing which never happens. Fries were salty and crispy and hot. So I guess I didn't really need the milkshake and bacon in hindsight. I'm a bit disappointed by Burger Joint. At first, the idea seemed cool : a burger restaurant hidden in a luxury hotel. But once you're inside all the coolness disappears. The place is very small and you really have to wait to have a seat. They have this smart system where you have to prepare your order on a form while you're in the line. But careful: if your order is not ready when it's your turn, you will go back to the end of the line! But don't be afraid you will wait long enough it took us 20 minutes to place an order... For the food, burger are mediocre, fries are average and all this does not deserve to be so much expensive ( $17 for cheeseburger with fries and a soda). read more

There's definitely something else in these burgers that make them soooo delicious and addictive, if you know what I mean.. Not gonna lie though, it's kind of pricey. The Cash Only thing is kind of a pain so come prepared. Also annoying are the long lines of people during lunch hours, difficult to nab seats and customers who stammer their orders when they get to the register. Dude, there's a big sign indicating Burger Joint's lack of patience for customer indecision. That plus the long wait, you'd think people would have time to figure out what they want beforehand. It's a burger, not rocket science. I don't know, maybe I'm just a grumpy new yorker. Aaaanyway. Burgers are juicy, tasty and perfectly-made according to your liking. After almost four years living in the City, I've finally made my way to the Le Parker Meridian hotel to this "hidden" Burger Joint. On a Monday at 9pm, the line wasn't too bad, maybe like 4-6 people out the door. There is more of the line inside, but it's pretty quick. You can either opt to take out or they do table service. I thought it was a Shake Shack type deal - you buy, sit, and pick up. No tipping. However, there is most definitely table service and **THEY ONLY TAKE CASH TIPS**. I tried the cheeseburger, medium, which is the standard temperature when you don't state any other option. I find it weird that you have to know to order a certain temperature because they don't ask you. You can have the meat cooked however you'd like. It comes with your choice of toppings (or the works, if you want everything). I got everything except mayo and it was the perfect combination, except that I added more ketchup. This was a satisfying burger, I'd have to admit. Not the cheapest of burgers, especially for being so.... basic, but definitely a satisfying one. The meat is cooked well, seasoned well, and the basic toppings (and pickles!) remind you of the all-American cheeseburger. This is probably what I'd think of when I think of a cheeseburger. Tastes better than Corner Bistros, but I think I'd still go for Shake Shack's Shackburger, though it obviously tastes a little different (but its sub-$5!). We discussed the fries and decided they were like McDonald's fries. Not bad, but why have these when you can have McDonald's fries? The vanilla shake tasted EXACTLY like Breyer's vanilla bean ice cream... and had lots of vanilla bean in it. A scavenger hut that ends in a burger-- I'm game. The burger couldn't possibly live up to the hype surrounding it, but it was very good. A few things keeping it from 5 stars, though: it was definitely not medium like I ordered it. More medium well. Also, I thought it was a little small, no? But it was juicy (kinda) and flavorful, cooked to (well, past) order, and paired perfectly with skinny fries. (I held back on the milkshake and ordered lemonade instead.) This is not a truly cheap cheap meal at $11.75, but you're in this fancy hotel, but they want you to feel like you're not in a fancy hotel, and they want famous people to write on the wall, but not you, and they want you to feel like you're in a dive, but you're not. It's very confusing. Why bother trying to feel like a dive? Does a burger taste better in a dive? Does Patti LaBelle's stamp of approval matter? My friend told me that this was the inside thing to get in NY, so I figure that the inside thing would be the definition of BOMB NY eats... I don't know if it's my high expectations or what, but it was no deal. It's totally hidden behind curtains of the Parker Meridian, and it screams "insider knowledge", but seriously for $8 a cheeseburger you should just get your ass over to an In-n-Out burger on the West Coast and grab yourself two double-doubles with that and have a better burger. I had high hopes for this place, especially because it was recommend by Anthony Bourdain, but it's just a simple burger joint. Nothing crazy to rave about. Place is fairly small. I am sorry, I just cannot get behind this place as a legit burger in NYC or elsewhere. The place is pretty cool, I will give it that much, but the taste of the burger meat is very bland. I liked the vibe in this randomly-located joint. It's small, crowded and you're forced to know what you want when you place your order; it gives it a locals-only feel. Unfortunately, I wasn't too fond of the burger. The patty was pretty thick and the burger as a whole was bigger than Shake Shack's, but the meat was too dry and too well-done. It also definitely lacked flavor... a little salt or some other spice would have been a big improvement. And the bun at SS was also better (soft and buttery). read more

I got the works sans onions: It was so freakin' good [the ketchup+mustard+mayo combo totally did it for me] It took a bit for my order to be called but it was well worth the wait. You step inside the chic Le Parker Meridian. Hidden in a dark hallway, you see it.. The famous neon burger sign. You step inside the tiny, cluttered Burger Joint. Always pretty crowded, but the wait goes by fast. This crowd of loud, obnoxious women start to get up and leave the joint, when one of the employees yell out ", Don't forget to clean up, ladies!" That was the first time I ate there. I had a good laugh. The walls are covered with celebrities` signatures. Ashton "Doucher" took up a whole lotta real estate with his. The burgers are perfectly cooked. Not too big and not too small. Thin crispy french fries, served in a paper bag= Awesome! Add a coke, and you are all set for a nice burger and fries meal. This place serves one of the best burgers in Manhattan...even better than Corner Bistro in my opinion. Perfect juiciness, perfect bun-to-meat ratio, perfect bun softness. These aren't transcendent burgers, but they're solid, and it's a fun ambiance. Does something need to be The Best X Ever for you to say you liked it? Demanding standards, yikes... The place is small, I'm usually critical about small spaces with huge lines cause I know I'll be sipping on a cocktail or eating elbow to elbow with someone.. The quality of the burgers are good. The meat is good, the toppings are also pretty good. I don't think it's no where near as amazing as people say it is. The fries are also decent. Think of it as a pub burger from a fast food line. The food itself deserves 4-stars, at best. The real problem is how small the burger is though. As a 5'11, 145 pound male (which is on the thin side), I was still hungry after my burger and fries - you know that feeling when you've been teased with good food, and wish you could have more? I would have needed 2 burgers and fries, which would have been a solid $20. I would say any average male needs 2 burgers from here to be satisfied. Also, cash only which is a dying practice. I find it hilarious that Burger Joint is located inside the swanky Parker Meridian. Firstly, the only indication that its there is a neon cheeseburger sign. Well, that and the giant line. Secondly, the inside of this place looks like it belongs in one of my friend's parent's garages in the suburbs. Its decked out in old movie posters and they serve pitchers of Sam Adams. The walls/tables are written all over and carved into. Guilty. Lastly, and most importantly, their burgers are what we call BANGIN. Best in New York, coming from a lifelong New York City kid. Made to order, made fast, and perfectly constructed within a paper wrapper. One of my favorite things to do in NYC is going there with friends (no more than 4 total if you want seating), scouting out a table and grabbing it, getting burgers, fries, and a pitcher. Heaven. Oh, and carving my name and year into where ever I'm sitting. The trick to getting a table is to be a Ninja. You stalk people while they eat for signs that they are leaving (don't worry, its acceptable), walk over and ask politely if you could throw a coat over one of their chairs until they are ready, and jump in victoriously. The Burger Joint, what can one say its as New York as New York gets. Everything about this place is fast paced, the ordering, the serving, the sitting down, to the announcements " If your done eating please don't just sit around, other people would like to enjoy there meal"-Lol. Yep, the Burger Joint, like a beloved blunt, this joint is wrapped up tight in an upscale hotel The Parker Meridian. BUT enough sweet talk lets get to the need to know. Once in the hotel you probably wont be able to find this place, because its signature neon burger sign and arrow is hidden behind a drape. But no worries save your self the time and ask one of the security guards in the area, they ll be more then happy to point you in the right direction, which is probably back where you came from because you most likely walked right past it,Lol Once you discover the place and walk through the door your pretty much on line. Take notice to the hanging pieces of cardboard, scribbled on with highlighters, that demands you be ready with your order before you get to the cashier or "please step to the end of the line". So shake off the soup nazi nerves and read the instructions spit out your order, and enjoy the meal. For around $14 bucks you get yourself a burger with "The Works"-(Little bit of all toppings) a paper bag full of fries, and a coke. If your looking for a seat i wouldn't recommend going 12-2pm cause thats prime lunch time for most new yorkers in the area, but hey you may get lucky and catch a seat, so go for it. The cool brick walls covered with movie posters, radio music playing, mixed with the laughing, and casual convo of the crowd makes this a cool spot and a place worth seeing. read more

You may have heard of the legendary burger joint, so informal its name isn't even capitalized. It doesn't even really have a damn name. It's like naming your cat, "kitty." You go in to this no frills place, with graffiti etched messily over the walls and pictures of Elvis and Rocky and what not randomly placed around. Mismatched furniture, 2 kinds of draft beer, it's almost like being in the dirty south! The juxtaposition of walking through the fancy ass hotel it's housed in makes the experience even more intriguing. What is this joint? How did this happen? Then the bill comes to $40 for 2 cheeseburgers and two cups of beer in plastic cups. You realize you are definitely NOT in the dirty south. The burger is good. But not $40 good. If I spend $40 at a place with the name "joint" in it I had better be getting a body part licked real good and that didn't happen so I'd hesitate to return (if no one else was paying). read more

Tucked away at a corner of the lobby of the Parker Meridien hotel is Burger Joint, a cute little place with good burgers, milk shakes, and brownies. The fries are not bad too. The burgers are made to order, and though they aren't the best I have had, they are to the point and delicious. There is usually a long line, but it moves relatively fast. I love how the place is decorated, it's been a nice spot to visit with friends after work. read more

After taking a friend to the Shake Shack and declaring it my favorite burger in NY, he felt a challenge and took me to his favorite burger place. While we were walking into Le Parker Meridien, I swear I thought this dude lost his mind. This is really the kind of place you can only get to by bringing someone who has already been here. Had he told me to meet him there I would not have seen the tiny neon burger towards the side of the reception area. Upon entering, I was amazed at the line, which i was told was SHORT compared to the other days. wow. The signage is pretty awesome and straight forward. "Know your order before you get here or you go to the back of the line" With that, I knew right away I wanted a medium rare burger with cheese and the works AKA EVERYTHING. While my friend was ordering a table opened up and I was lucky to grab it. We waited about 10 minutes to get out food and I was very happy. The burger was juicy. Had a nice char to it like a good BBQ burger from a summer time picnic. The fries were crisp and addicting. I washed it down with an icy cold root beer. While I cant say its my favorite burger (long live the SHACK BURGER!) I will say this is ONE TASTY burger! I think its a pretty awesome spot and would probably go back with a small group of friends to pick up some food and bring it to the park to eat. read more
