My gf took me to this place this past Saturday. I had never went to a Burmese place before. I want to try more from Burma 2 when I am off lent because I gave away meat. However, their veggie options were really good. My gf and I shared the Eggplant Curry and the mixed vegetable kebat. We got both of them hot. The spice was not too bad, I could handle it. I really liked the eggplant curry. It was cooked perfectly. It wasn't too soggy and the curry was really tasty. The mixed veggies were also really good. You can tell they use fresh veggies because they still had a bite to them. I really recommend these two dishes. You do have to buy rice on the side but I enjoy a family style dinner. The food is a 5. The service was really nice! They were fast with our orders and they front guy even put us at a more intimate part of the restaurant. He saw that we didn't like to sit near people if we were given the chance to choose. The service is a 4. The place looked really clean too. It had a modern classy look to it.I don't know if the music matched the look of the place though. It was kind of a rave-y music and it didn't match the look of the restaurant. Had the pleasure of trying Burmese food for the first time. Burma 2 has indoor and outdoor seating which allowed us to accommodate Lil Lucie. We tried multiple items salt and pepper calamari, soup, tea salad, chicken curry and garlic noodles. Everything was delicious and there were some spices/flavors that I could not identify. My favorite item was the tea salad. The salad was refreshing with great flavor and textures. Looking forward to trying more of the menu next visit. read more

We went for a dine-in and the service was top notch. Very lively yet still cozy inside. Just right. We had: - Tea leaf salad: comes pre-mixed, overall good but on a saltier side that obscured flavors of the dressing - Palata with chicken curry: just heavenly, and you get enough curry to spread over a side of rice - Fried chicken: good taste-wise but plating was a bit of a disappointment. Strips of mango were too large to eat in one bite without a knife and not thorough as in 2-3 large strips were still linked together. Same goes for pieces of fried chicken, just too large. After the recent closure of my favorite Burmese place, finding spots like Burma 2 help assuage that wound. Unfortunately this place is well outside my regular zone, but it's good to know where to find quality Burmese with great service as well. We chose to stick to the outside since it was a nice(r) day, and it's remarkably comfortable despite the absence of covering. The outer face gets a good dose of sunshine so the chill wasn't terribly noticeable. Parking is actually relatively convenient for this location since it's right next to a lot and it's not too far from the Broadway garage (which has free first hour). Service is notably extremely on point, particularly for a outside seating arrangement; staff rotated around very regularly to refill water and collect plates, etc. Food came out quickly in sequence as well. It's great to see they don't forget about their customers regardless of location. ==Tea leaf salad [5/5]== This wasn't as tangy nor pungent as other iterations I've had (they're definitely holding back on fish sauce I feel), but still quite a treat on the savory flavors front with loads of flavorful crunchy bits in between. I'd describe this one as having earthier notes. We opted for cabbage, but could do it with romaine lettuce as well. ==Deep fried lotus root [5/5]== This came out quite differently than what I expected as I was more used to the Chinese variant. I guess Burmese lotus roots just grow much...smaller? These were literally deep fried to a crisp though, so this ended up being more like a crunch lotus chip with a fantastic aioli. The sweet, tangy, yet savory aoili is quite the lovely pairing. The smattering of seaweed adds nice flavor contrast. ==Burmese style lamb curry [5/5]== Deliciously flavorful and tender as heck lamb cubes with a good serving size. Burmese curries certainly run much sweeter aroma-wise, but still quite rich in their own way. We sometimes order from Burma 2 at work and I've never had a bad meal. I had the pumpkin salmon curry yesterday and before that, the mango shrimp. Since I remembered the shrimp was spicy, I made sure to ask for the curry mild. Even at a mild spice, the curry had a lot of flavor. I definitely recommend asking for dishes mild as they can be spicy by default. Some coworkers got the dry curry and my boss the duck curry, which I think they enjoyed. I got the curry with a side of brown rice because you can't have curry without something to absorb the sauce in my opinion. Since I've never been to the actual restaurant, I can't (yet) comment on the ambiance or service. The menu is quite extensive and there are many items I can't wait to try! read more

First time in a Burmese restaurant and I was throughly impressed. I ordered a bunch of stuff to try. First off the service was great and atmosphere. Now for the food. I started with the salt and pepper chicken had an amazing fry and seasoning. The spicy sauce was amazing and paired perfect. Samosas were good but not my cup of tea. The palata with coconut chicken curry was amazing. The curry had a great flavor and I could have drank it. Then the coconut shrimp was good the fry was good and the seasoning was on point. I don't get to have Burmese food all that often but after rediscovering the existence of Burma Burma in Dublin a few weeks ago, I wanted to check out Burma 2 in Walnut Creek as well. The first time we went, we didn't make a reservation and the wait was gonna be kinda long, so we decided to come back another time. That another time happened to be today! SO was getting some stuffs done on his car nearby so we had some time to kill and it was a very random hour so we decided to stop by again -- as luck would have it, no wait at all! We were seated immediately and given cucumber-infused water to start. We got the Sesame Beef + the Beef Tofu with a side of Coconut Rice to share. The Beef Tofu = wok-fried tri-tip with tofu, string beans, bell peppers, garlic, ginger, and basil, with hoisin + oyster sauce. The Sesame Beef is definitely one of my faves -- lightly fried strips of beef that have been lightly fried in soy sauce, vinegar, + honey and topped with sesame seeds. Super unique dish to me -- I'm not sure I've ever had fried beef anywhere else and this was super flavorful and tasty. The coconut rice was slightly sweet with a hint of coconut. Portion sizes, as declared by SO, = "the most reasonable portion sizes in all of Walnut Creek" (out of the places we've frequented thus far). Overall, a very pleasant + delicious experience, so we definitely plan to be back! (It's been added to our consultation list for when we want to go out for food but don't know where to go/don't have enough of a preference to pick a place out of the blue. First time here, ordered several dishes that were all good. The leaf salad, palate with coconut chicken curry, minted jalapeno chicken, eggplant and garlic, and the pumpkin curry we're all very good! We were here with our 3 year old and they gave us a batman dish and kids water cup. Service was very good and friendly. Most frustrating review I've had to write in quite some time. My family and I had decided to try this Burmese restaurant out for my birthday lunch on a Sunday. Reservations were made two days prior and they even text to confirm the day before. When we showed up for our Sunday 12:30pm reservation, the door was locked and there was a County Health notice that the restaurant was closed with Rodent infestation marked on the sign. I came to find out this weekend, through an article that was sent to me, that a rat had apparently jumped onto a diner's lap on Aug-8 in their dining room. We had the jalapeño minced chicken, lemongrass chicken, sesame beef, vegetable curry, and samosa appetizer. We also had some jasmine rice and coconut rice. I asked if the lemongrass chicken could be made spicy, and was told "yes". Now, I like SPICY. Like an 8 out of 10. This was completely mild. It had one red chili pepper in it, presumably to make it "spicy". The service was great. I had a Ketel One martini which was well made. The water was constantly refilled in our glasses, which was nice. We never had to ask. The ambience was fine. I will definitely be going back to try more options. My favorite item we ordered was the palata with the curry. My friends loved the calamari and the nan gyi dok. The restaurant had lots of vegetarian options which I appreciated. The food also came out very quickly and was all freshly made. The only complaint I had about this place is that the bathroom wasn't very clean. It also didn't have any paper towels for your hands so you have to open the bathroom door with your hand inside which I don't really like doing at restaurants. Updating from 5 star experience to 1 star. This review is for their service, especially about their manager, Crystal, who didn't even listen to us, was very rude, argumentative and made the us, the customers feel devalued. (We still tipped them around 20-25% as because of their manager's poor behavior, we didn't want the servers and staff to be affected). Also, it pains me to write a bad review, but they need to improve their customer service, especially how a manager treats customers as it sets the tone for the restaurant. I came here for lunch (wasn't busy) on the weekend with a couple of friends and their kids. We ordered a few different dishes including Pad Thai with chicken for the kiddo. Our initial server was sweet, polite while taking the order. When the food came, the Pad Thai didn't have chicken and instead had tofu. My friend told a couple of different servers that chicken was missing from the dish and instead it had tofu (which the kid doesn't eat). They said, they can bring it on the side, which we agreed to. Several minutes passed, and they didn't get it. After the toddler had a few bites, she was done, and was left half hungry. We all had finished rest of the dishes (The tea leaf salad, lettuce wraps, vegan noodles all tasted great (5 stars there).) My friend decided to finish some part of the pad thai as we don't like wasting food but some was still remaining from the kid's plate. We told them not to get chicken as we had almost done with our lunch. When the bill came, they charged for the full dish for pad thai. Our server was was polite and went inside and got her manager, Crystal. From the beginning, Crystal, the manager was rude, and argumentative, almost raising her voice. She said, "we are humans, and sometimes we make mistakes." which I completely agree and it's fine. She went ahead stating, "since you have finished the dish, I can't take it off your bill" (we clearly had not finished the pad thai, there was some remaining on kid's plate). She kept arguing, implied that we were trying to get a free dish (why would anyone paying for almost $100 try to get a free dish). It was not about getting something free, but doing the right thing, if you give a wrong dish, and can't bring what was asked, you politely try to correct it in another way. If instead, she would have listened to what we were saying, explained why it happened and what they could do to improve the experience (taking off the dish or partial amount, or something else), it would have been fine. She finally agreed to take 50% off, charged $7.50 for the dish. We still tipped them almost 20% as it was the right thing to do to support rest of the servers and kitchen staff. But this was a very bitter experience. I hope they will give more importance to customer service, especially ability to listen to customers, and being kind. read more

I noticed that most menu items are $1 less if you order online for pickup from their website (not Grubhub/DoorDash). Burmese iced tea ($5): Considering milk tea is more than $5 these days, this was worth it for me! I believe it's made of black tea, evaporated milk, and condensed milk. Perfect for a hot day! Tea leaf salad ($15): The famed salad at all Burmese restaurants, and this one met the bar. I just wish there was more! Hardly enough to share with 3 people. You have a choice of lettuce or cabbage. Chicken and shrimp biryani ($21): This was new to my taste buds, I really liked it!! The peas, cashews, and dried fruit in the rice were excellent additions to make it unique. The chicken marinade was also not too salty, and you can taste all the flavors. We love this place. We've been here almost a dozen times in the last year and each time it did not disappoint. My go to dish is the sesame beef and braised eggplant. Perfectly seasoned and cooked and always a treat. The service is also above par as the servers are attentive and friendly. The only thing is parking can be an issue. There's a parking structure nearby but it's a few blocks away. All other parking are metered and very aggressively enforced. Don't let that stop you from trying this place. Great ambiance, friendly service, nice location but not authentic unfortunately. My husband is Burmese and so he grew up eating lots of authentic home cooked Burmese meals! He was hesitant to try it because he said it probably wouldn't be authentic but I convinced him to come try it anyway. The location is really nice, right in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek and there was plenty of seating inside. The service was also really great and the food came out really fast as well! We ordered samosas as an appetizer, the moh hin gha and then the nan gyi dok. The samosas were nothing special, it lacked seasoning in our opinion. The texture of the moh hin gha was great but the soup consistency was a little too thin and there wasn't enough fish flavor. The nan gyi dok tasted only like coconut and the curry flavor was very very faint, barely there. Although the food itself was decent, I wouldn't say it was good Burmese food. I can see why people would love coming here though, the service is great and the food they serve is not bad, definitely unique for the area!
