We've ordered takeouts from Burma Taste before but never dined in. This time I visited for a team lunch and tried two new items - Tea Leaf Salad, and Fiery Tofu with Beef. Food was served quickly. The waiting staff mixed the tea leaf salad at the table. All of us enjoyed the salad for its refreshing flavor and crunchy texture (from the peanuts and the fried garlic). I really liked my Fiery Tofu w/ Beef for its taste and a nice subtle kick of spiciness. It was more oily than I expected though - after I finished the food, there was a layer of oil on the bottom of the bowl. My coworkers had positive reviews about their food too. The chicken biryani looked nothing like the Indian biryani I've had before, but seemed delicious too. read more

Met a former coworker here for a meal. Loved the beer selection (was served ice cold) but unfortunately my meal (the Nan Gyi Thoke) came out lukewarm. The portion was generous and it was priced well but I just wish it had been served hot, especially since we were sitting outdoors. My dining companion enjoyed the tofu she ordered. The outdoor patio is nice even during the winter with lots of heat lamps. I would come back in case my experience was a one-time thing. read more

Excellent food, attentive service and welcoming setting. We like Burmese food and wanted to give this place a shot. The mango salad is a winner as was the curry beef! The pumpkin pork was tasty and the chicken kerat good but the first two dishes were champs. Our service was excellent and we never had to flag anyone down which was good. It was empty but it was middle the middle of the week. The ambiance nice and open which was pleasant. Not only were the staff friendly, but we felt at ease because of the ample outdoor seating and hand sanitizer at every table. The food was delicious as well! We ordered: Palata with chicken curry dip (5/5): the roti was soooo flaky and the crunchy texture was incredible. It's not too oily either so that's a plus. The chicken curry drip had a generous amount of chicken, and the curry was very flavorful but not overly spicy. Nan gyi thoke (5/5): the rice noodle was so smooth, stretchy, chewy, and bouncy at the same time. There were wonton chips to add to the texture so every couple of bites were crunchy. We started with the palata with Chicken Curry and the tea leaf salad. The tea leaf salad was great and loved the flavors, the palata was a bit doughy but the taste was delicious. We also ordered the Mango chicken and Burma House Noodles with tofu and both of them were bit on the spicy side (which we expected and our server kindly mentioned that as well), and tasted wonderful. This is becoming my go-to restaurant in Downtown Sunnyvale! Though I'm a noob and I have never had Burmese food anywhere else but here... I am a fan! My recommendations: + Nan Gyi Thoke: Great for first timers (like me)! The perfect entry level Burmese dish. + Fish Chowder Noodle Soup: Very unique and creamy herb-tasting broth. Surprisingly didn't have a strong curry flavor. Very subtle. I love those crunchy lentil chips. + Burma House Noodles: A pad thai with a twist! Tender chicken, fresh bell peppers, and they give a bigger portion now compared to their soft opening. That eggplant curry is next on my hit list... ALSO... Updating my review since I fell in love with the Burmese Milk Tea! It reminds me SO MUCH of Hong Kong Milk Tea, but a bit more of a subtle condensed milk flavor. Burma Taste has been on my list to try since my family is always trying to find good Burmese food. Both my parents were born and raised in Burma (Myanmar), so they cooked a lot of Burmese food growing up. We try to keep an eye out for Burmese restaurants. Whenever I go to a Burmese restaurant for the first time, I always order mohinga (fish chowder noodle dish) because I want to know how well it's made since it's considered Burma's national dish. Mohinga generally consists of catfish, fish sauce, banana stem, chili pepper, boiled eggs, ginger, onions, lemon grass, cilantro, garlic, rice vermicelli, and fried chickpea chips/crackers. Burma Taste's mohinga is pretty good though I wish the soup was thicker with more of a fishy taste. Palata with chicken curry is flavorful. and cooked well. The palata (flatbread) is soft and crispy with beautiful layers. The taste of chicken curry is strong, which is a good balance with the plain palata. Leaving the palata soak in the curry dip makes it taste 100% better. Lastly, I ordered the nan gyi thoke, which is the rice noodle salad. The ingredients are rice noodles, chicken curry, cilantro, lemon, boiled egg, lim juice, noodle crisp, and friends sliced unions. The nan gyi thoke was OK, it was a bit bland. What made it better was mixing the chicken curry dip from the palata appetizer. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Burma Taste. The food at Burma Taste is 100% Burmese. 100% authentic. I overhead the female workers speak Burmese, so it all checks out. This is definitely a place I'd like to bring my parents. read more

Came for lunch and sat outside. Murphy Ave is awesome. Their service was great, we were seated and ordered quickly. Unfortunately, we waited about 45 minutes before we got our food, which is the reason for 3 stars. The food was excellent: the palata was crispy and delicious, and the sesame chicken was also crispy, sweet, and went well with the coconut rice (which was also great). We started inside but due to some unforeseen circumstances with the restaurant we were moved outside. It was out of their control and the situation was handled quickly and efficiently. We were happy to end up outside since it was a beautiful evening. We ordered tea leaf salad and it was AMAZING! It's so good we ordered two to go so that we could have lunches the next day! We also ordered garlic noodles with chicken which was delish. We definitely plan to return (and soon) for more TLS. It is similar to a pad thai but has more vegetables. Cooked well overall and a good item to share. - Rainbow Salad (8/10): great combination of flavors and textures from the 22 ingredients. I would consider this to be a slightly heartier salad because of the noodles. My favorite part was the fried garlic crisps on top. - Vegetable Curry (8/10): a hot bowl of curry is my ultimate comfort food, and this was exactly that. There was a good blend of vegetables from the soft potato to the crunchy carrots. I would have preferred it to be slightly less watery, but when mixed with the coconut rice it was fine. - Fiery Vegetables (7/10): beans and bell peppers are cooked well, and the tofu has a strong soy flavor. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Absolutely horrendous. I placed an order at 3:55 PM to schedule a pickup time for 4:45 PM which was approved through their website. I get a text at 4:45 PM exactly saying my order was ready for pickup. I show up to the restaurant at 5:00 PM to pickup my order and it's still not ready, in fact that haven't started on it. I get it if they were slammed or so busy, there were 3 people in the entire restaurant. One person sitting at the bar and another table with 2 ladies. When I initially walked in, I wasn't greeted by anyone for so long. The gentleman behind me actually came in and asked me for a table because I was standing near the pick up station. I told him that I don't work here and I'm actually waiting to be helped and acknowledged. The food is not worth this terrible service. Don't waste your money at this establishment. I wish I could've gotten a refund instead of have them make my entire order while I'm standing outside. read more

OH MY GOSH! Am SO happy I finally got to try this place. Went with a GF for lunch to catch up on things and decided to try someplace new. We got there when they opened so we had the pick of where ever and everyone there is so nice and friendly. We sat inside because it was a bit chilly outside and they were very accommodating :) We started with their Tea Leaf Salad - and I have to tell you - not sure if it's cause we were one of the first that day or if this is normal but it was SO FRESH and light and flavorful. The textures, the flavors and the FRESH romaine was PERFECT. I'm now drooling thinking about that salad... Definitely my MUST have when I go back... We then ordered their pumpkin stew with pork... it's kabocha with tender pork pieces with the most amazing stew. It was a little sweet but that could've been cause I paired it with coconut rice which to be honest made the whole combo AMAZING! Flavortown in my mouth!! I'm so happy they are much closer to me and I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Guess I'll have to make multiple trips as they have quite a bit to choose from! :) Servings are a bit small - I thought us sharing the salad and stew with rice would fill us but i was "content" but starving an hour later. This was my first exposure to Burmese food and I. LOVE. IT. My team and I went here for a team lunch one afternoon and sat outside. It was a late lunch so we were maybe one of two groups seated and it was nice, especially in the the times of COVID. We went family style with the food and everything was really tasty. One of my favorite dishes was surprisingly the tea leaf salad. It was just SO full of flavor and I really liked the bit of tang. I could have had just that as my meal and been completely content. The other one of my favorites was actually a side dish - coconut rice. I am generally a huge fan of coconut rice and this place didn't disappoint. Other honorable mentions included the Burmese curry and the green beans. Everything was so fresh and flavorful and I think about this place more often than I imagined I ever would. We ordered the eggplant with shrimp in garlic sauce, fiery vegetables, garlic noodles with chicken, and salt and pepper calamari. Online order said it would take 20 minutes to be ready. There is a parking lot that is shared by all the restaurants on Murphy. It was pretty full even on a Friday afternoon around 2. Enjoyed all the food, but I would say the portions could be bigger. Liked the batter of the calamari and the sauce it came with it. Fiery vegetables were good, but surprisingly not spicy. Garlic noodles could have had more garlic flavor, but I used the sauce from the eggplant dish on the noodles. The eggplant wasn't too spicy. Shrimp was good; wish there was more. Last time, we ordered a Burmese Milk Tea and a Tea Leaf Salad, both of which we really liked, so we ordered both of those again! Their tea leaf salad here is incredible. One of the best salads I have ever eaten anywhere! If you come to Burma Taste, definitely try the tea leaf salad! For the main dish, we ordered the garlic noodles with shrimp. This was really flavorful as well! It came with a little side of some sauce and onions that we could add in, so we added some of that in, and I think it tasted a little better with that sauce. Our waiter was very kind and friendly, and the food was delicious just like last time. This is a new restaurant on Murphy Street and I am so glad that we now have some Burmese food in downtown Sunnyvale! Solid food, fast and easy pickup, would definitely recommend :) My boyfriend and I decided to order some takeout from Burma Taste for dinner on Friday. The menu is VERY extensive though some of the dishes look pretty generic and are probably not as unique to Myanmar as others. I read on here that the portions are a bit small, so we ended up ordering two small plates and two entrees which was more than enough food for the two of us. We even had enough leftovers for lunch the following day! Palata with chicken curry dip: This was absolutely delicious, though I do wish that the chicken curry dip came with a bit more chicken. The roti slices were crispy and fluffy with many layers, and they soaked up the curry dip with ease. Crispy pork belly: This small plate came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping, and it was fantastic. The pork belly was perfectly crispy atop a bed of lettuce, and this dish definitely reminds me heavily of charsiu pork in terms of flavor. Nan Gyi Thoke: I loved the texture and flavor of the rice noodles in combination with the coconut chicken curry and all of the different toppings! The portion size looked small at first but once we dumped everything onto a plate and mixed it up, I don't think it's a small portion at all. Do note that the coconut chicken curry (which came in a separate container from everything else) is basically the same as the curry dip for the palata if you are planning on ordering both! Burmese eggplant curry: This came in a large container that was chock-full of eggplant. The eggplant was cooked perfectly, and the curry itself was very flavorful with lots of spices. We cooked up some jasmine rice at home to enjoy with the curry, which I would highly recommend if you don't want to pay for rice from the restaurant. read more

We saw a lot of people ordering this from reviews and knew we had to get it. Also knew that given that its a soup it would more better eaten pippin hot. This is something we have never had before and it ended up being our favorite dish of the lunch. I am not a huge fish fan and this wasn't overly fishy which I appreciated. Kebat Swai (or)ShrimpCooked in spices w/mint, chili, cilantro, onions & tomatoes, paprika & lemon Shrimp $17.99 - I love shrimp and this didn't disappoint. It had a good amount of richness due to the fermented tea leaf paste. I am not a big fan of peanuts, but wont hold that against them. The palata with chicken curry dip was great too. The precut the palata so its easy to eat, and its has the perfect amount of flakiness to it. If I could get a Chinese green onion pancake (cong you bing) like this I'd be in cloud 9. The chicken curry had a good spiciness to it, and these two dishes were solid in my opinion. I wasn't a big fan of their Burma House Noodles, which tasted like a slightly off Pad Thai. A great addition to downtown Sunnyvale! There are only a handful of Burmese restaurants in the South Bay, and I'm glad I tried Burma Taste, whose chef is from Burma Superstar. With indoor and heated outdoor seating, they're having their soft opening with 15% off through the end of the year. We were seated immediately, and the food came out quickly. My favorites were the nan gyi thoke and samosa soup. I absolutely loved the chewy texture of the noodles. For the soup, I liked that the broth and crispy falafel, samosa, and potato toppings were served separately to avoid becoming soggy. I was expecting it to be a heartier soup, but it was actually pretty light and nice! The Burmese chicken wings weren't anything special to me, but the tea leaf salad was tasty and crunchy. I thought the clove spice was a bit overwhelming in the chicken biryani, but it was very flavorful and the chicken thighs were moist. The staff was friendly and helped mix the salad and noodles after explaining each dish's component. At the end, someone thanked us for dining with them and asked us for feedback so they can improve through their soft opening stage. My main gripe was that the portion sizes for the salad and nan gyi thoke were small; they needed more lettuce and noodles! They have outdoor seating but limited with 2 fire lamps, but patio seating is also an option where there's heat lamp on the ceiling and glass walls in a semi enclosed environment. Must get the fish soup, it's a very pleasing comfort food for me. Wish it's bigger portion, I think if they are bigger and charge $15/16 bucks I'm still happy to get it. The garlic noodle with shrimp is flat noodle, so not as garlicky or buttery as the Vietnamese kind. Tasted ok. I wasn't quite impressed with the menu as it was like a Chinese stir fry menu until I saw other tables dishes. We ordered samosas, palata with chicken curry dip, and tea leaf salad to start for 3 people. It was good, not spicy but def tasty! We actually kind of got full just off that lol but we ordered more anyway. We ordered the Nan gyi thoke and chilli lamb with coconut rice, all were tasty and full of flavor. I would love if it has a little more spice though. I took the leftovers home and honestly it tasted even better the next day after the flavors soaked into the food.
