Yummy in my tumtum! This was my first time trying Myanmar food so I want not sure what to expect. I got the nan gyi thoke which was round noodles, wonton crips, a hard boiled egg, cilantro, raw onion, and chicken. The server offers to mix it for you. The sauce tasted like a peanut and coconut milk sauce with plenty of spices to add flavor. It was fantastic! Very very flavorful and creamy. I took extras home and the flavors got even more integrated when I ate it for left overs. My friend got the Shan tofu red curry which does not come with rice so she had to order it on the side. We both thought this was a little strange given that the dish itself was very similar to a curry. Our waitress said it is supposed to be spicy, but neither of us got much spicy from it. This dish was a little bit of a let down, in part due to our expectations of having something spicy and with rice. It still is a good dish though. I've had a lot of burmese food and I live near this place, so I was eager to try it. It's located in downtown sunnyvale, so it's in a central location. Parking is a little hard. The service was pretty nice and waiters were super friendly. The establishment's insides are pretty standard fare for a restauraunt. We ordered the palata (similar to roti) with chicken curry. It's pretty good and is consistent with other burmese restauraunts. We also ordered the nan gyi thoke which was highly recommended by other people. My honest opinion of it is while it's different, I wasn't blown away by it- I've had noodles of similar quality at other places (but it's still pretty good!). The minty jalapeno chicken on the other hand was kinda amazing. Had it with an order of house noodles and it was so good, we demolished it instantly. I definitely enjoyed this one more. My monthly lunch pals and I came here for the first time, trying a different restaurant every time. They have an outdoor open patio, as does most of the restaurants on Murphy. I ordered the Fiery Chicken with rice. It was alright. I hardly tasted the five spice sweet spicy sauce. If only I could give a 3 1/2 stars. Everyone else enjoyed their food. This is one of my family's favorite restaurants. The food is so unique and delicious! I would recommend focusing on their appetizers, soups, noodles, and salad. The entrees are not as strong! I've tried almost everything on the menu and here are some of my recommendations. Tea Leaf salad- this is a salad that is seasoned with tea leaves. Such an interesting concept. I find this to be super refreshing and delicious. Rainbow salad- I really like this rainbow salad. It's so pretty and has a nice crunch to it. Nan Gyi Thoke- Curry noodles. My boyfriend and I walked over here after watching a movie at Sunnyvale AMC. He never had Burmese cuisine before, and as someone who just loves tea leaf salad, I had to introduce him to Burmese cuisine. Of course we ordered Tea Leaf Salad, but we also got a couple of entrees to share between us (Garlic Pork and Mango Chicken). As always, the Tea Leaf Salad was delicious, but this salad tasted a little on the saltier side compared to other salads I've had previously. The entrees we ordered were actually quite large, and we could have gotten away with ordering one to share between the two of us. The garlic pork was flavorful and tender - it had a lot of onions, but I love onions, so I can't complain! We ordered the garlic noodles and it was definitely not what I expected. It's not your typical garlic noodles! Definitely the best Burmese restaurant in the South Bay. I haven't tried Burma Superstar, so I don't want to say in the entire bay yet. Me and my roommate both love Burmese food and tried this the first time the week it opened up. We've tried other Burmese places around the area and didn't like them as much as this. I have some go to restaurants (DishDash, Coffee & More) in Sunnyvale downtown (it's a walk away from where I work) so this was an addition to that list. They have plenty of seating, both inside and outside, so even if it's busy on a weekend, you should be seated fairly quickly. They just do most dishes well. And it's pretty authentic from what I know Burmese food. Going into specific dishes, - Samosa Soup: you'd see this only in Burmese cuisine. Definitely get this if you're a group of 3-4 to share, they serve a lot of soup and also give you samosa, falafels, potato, onions on a plate and the combination just goes so well. The soup itself has a lot of flavor going for it and feels good to have with the meal. - Nan Gyi Thoke: I love this dish in general and everything in this dish just goes well together. The rich coconut chicken curry (they do a vegetarian version although it's not listed on the menu, for the vegetarians out there!), the slippery rice noodles, the chips, the egg, and the powder mixed up makes it super flavorful for me. They will offer to mix it up for you and I'd recommend you take it. - Burmese Chowmein/Burma House Noodle/Garlic Noodle: The group got different versions of these over multiple visits, and I personally prefer the Burmese chowmein amongst the three. One thing I'd say is it's a little low on spice and even spicy is not that spicy. The house noodle is good, it is their version of the Pad Thai, and I personally prefer the Pad Thai at Thai restaurants over the Burmese version. The garlic noodle is a standard version which tastes good. - Minty Jalapeño Chicken: a fan of this flavor. It is more liked minced chicken with a mild jalapeño flavor. Go for this, ask for spicy. I got spicy and still felt it wasn't spicy. I got steamed rice to go with it but the combination can be a little dry because the dish itself is dry. The black pepper chicken and the fiery vegetarian curry are other dishes we've tried and although these aren't listed as my favorites, they are also good and most dishes here have their unique flavor profile, which is what I like about this place. The Palata with dip is also an easy win everywhere. We didn't like their beverages much though, wasn't a big fan of their Mango Lemonade/Iced Teas. They've got a nice ambiance inside and it is fairly spacious. Samosa salad- totally loved it and I cannot wait to try the vegetarian version of tea leaf salad. I've only had Burmese food three times in my life, but it doesn't take much to remember the intensely delicious flavors. Sadly, Burma Taste didn't live up to the experiences I've had in other places. The tea leaf salad was mostly a mix of romaine lettuce, crunchy toppings, and shrimp paste. Good, but not great, and not worth $17 in my opinion. Doesn't compare to Burmese Superstar. The Nan Gyi Thoke was probably my favorite dish. I thought all the elements (noodles, curry chicken, seasoning, crunchy toppings) came together very well, and it was delicious! However, my friend ordered the Burma House Noodle and it looked / tasted just like Pad Thai. I ended up not eating the tea leaf salad until a day later but because I hadn't mixed everything (which I appreciate that nothing was mixed by them), everything stayed super fresh. We've had Burmese once or twice over the years, but somehow had never come to Burma Taste in spite of its proximity to our apartment. As soon as you walk up, the staff is super friendly and welcoming. We were seated right away, given menus, and ordered an appetizer and two entrées. Food came out pretty quickly. I love palanta and curry dips. (I feel like it's always a more decadent take on the paranthas we have at home lol). The pumpkin stew was so flavorful and delicious, and I highly recommend getting it with the coconut rice. The crispy spicy chicken was great, very reminiscent of a general tso's chicken.
