I stopped by to pick up some bagels for my Advisory this morning. I haven't stopped here in a loooong time. Frankly, I've struggled to find any bagels in San Diego that can compare to the NYC/NJ bagels I came up with... I'm definitely a little snooty about my bagels, but anyway, I digress. This is a standard bagel bakery... nothing stands out about it. A couple of students were in front of me in line, but they kindly let me go ahead. I guess elderly privilege is a thing... :) I was craving a bagel sandwich... just and egg, cheese and tomato... but when I saw that bagel sandwiches are $10, I cringed. That just seemed outrageous to me. So I just ordered 9 plain bagels, 1 Asiago bagel pour moi, and a small container of plain cream cheese. The lady at the counter gruffly goes, "Is that it?" And I said yes. Then I paid... $34.94! And I stupidly added a 20% tip. So the total came to about $4 per bagel which in my estimation is quite high for what I received. Anyway, the service was fast, and I had my bagels in hand in less than 5 minutes. My asiago bagel was cold, but it was soft and the flavor was tasty along with some of the plain cream cheese. The kids enjoyed their plain bagels, and overall, this was basically just a satisfactory, no frills experience. Would I come back here? Perhaps... but with other bagel places popping up in the area, I feel like Busy Bee may need to change up their MO if they want to continue enticing customers into their establishment. read more

The bagels weren't that fresh and didn't really taste that good in my opinion. They are also extremely pricey and just don't really compare to other shops I've been to. The younger guy (think he's the owner's son) working there was also very rude and just seemed like he'd rather be somewhere else. I get it probably bad day, but no reason to take it out on a random person. Not worth your time. read more

This is the second time I've come here coming back from surfing at La Jolla in the morning and it's always such a treat eating a delicious breakfast bagel from this place. It's only a 10 minute drive from La Jolla Shores with a parking lot! I've never seen it busy when I go and they make my bagel really quick. I also love how there's outdoor seating with shade. I got a bacon egg and cheese bagel on an everything which I topped off with Chalula. If you're hungry and want something quick and tasty for breakfast I'd highly recommend this place. I have no idea how busy bee is still opened after all of these years. Other than a convenient location near schools, it is consistently subpar, and the people that work there are literally the rudest people I've ever experienced in any store or food establishment I'm not the only one that feels this. I have read multiple posts over the years. The topper was yesterday, my daughter went in to get three bagels, she got home and they were all incorrect. When I called, she told me to come back right then we were in the process of catering my daughter's baby shower and I told her I couldn't come back until tomorrow. She told me no I had to come back today. Three bagels and a drink was $52. There are so many other places that appreciate our business around La Jolla. read more

Manager is not friendly or customer service oriented. I tried to return a drink that was not to my liking and wanted to replace it with another flavor, but manager refused, and offered no alternative solution. Their bagels are good but expensive. They should stand behind the products they serve and offer exchanges if a customer is not satisfied. I will take my business elsewhere next time. This was one of the closest breakfast places that was walking distance to my place. I thought it was decent. The bagels weren't as toasty as I'd like so the next day, I just grabbed bagels to toast myself. The definitely had a lot of butter on them which the kids liked bc who doesn't like butter!? We always want to support local businesses. But unfortunately we can't continue to come back. We encountered such poor customer service. We always order 4 bagels toasted with cream cheese. We are charged differently every time. This particular time we didn't receive cream cheese. Went back to add cream cheese and was told that we would have to pay for the cream cheese, which is okay. What wasn't okay was being charge an extra $10 for cream cheese for 4 bagels. This wasn't the first time we have had an issue with our order or getting it made correctly. Don't waste your time here. The lady at the register clearly hates her job. So either way it's a reflection of whoever is managing this place. Such a bummer. We really enjoyed the bagels. read more

This place is a joke. Been here a couple times because San Diego has horrible bagels overall but I'll never return. Food is disgusting and unjustifiably expensive. They had a ton of options and we even went a little later in the day and they still had plenty of options. The bagels are soft, not the thought chewy ones! The sandwich was a good choice! Please look at the low-rating reviews so you will see how consistent their poor customer service and lack of professionalism is at this place. Management and the people who work here all seem to hate their jobs. They are often friendly to their friends and rude to others. I'm indifferent to how they treat me as long as I get what I paid for, but I detest how they treat some of their younger and very old customers. Their facilities are often dirty, the cashiers can be extremely rude, and they have no sense of standard customer service. Their food is clinical and expensive (about $15 for a bagel sandwhich), and if they mess up your order, be prepared for them to get mad at YOU. The best part of this place is the Hispanic lady who cooks the food. She's very nice and friendly. You'd think the owners and staff could learn something from her. Avoid this place unless you're in desperate need of a $30 pack of a dozen bagels, a $5 croissants, or a $15 hospital-food-grade bagel sandwich. There are too many good places in La Jolla to opt for this one. Vons has a Starbucks and DELICIOUS bagels, muffins, and cookies, and it's only 5 minutes away from this infernal pit of business don'ts. read more

Came here to grab a dozen bagels this morning. The woman helping got frustrated for some reason and was shaking her head in disgust. Then started complaining about me to her co-worker in Spanish. I think I was too slow picking the type of bagels. I was the only one in line so not sure what the rush was. Not coming back. Seriously good bagels and really good homemade cream cheese however... After spending nearly $36 + Tip, they do NOT slice your bagels. It's literally an additional $.50 per bagel if you want it sliced!! Being my first time here while on vacation with no knife, really posed a problem as I kindly explained. NO exceptions and was told sorry and to have a good day. Even though the food is good it's also about the experience in the Understanding or lack there of one is shown. We live right around the corner from this shop. We went in 845am Sunday January 7th , 2024. We have to agree with some of the other previous not so good reviews . The short, hispanic ,older 50ish female working on the register is a very unhappy & rude person. Hope the owners find out that she is not good for business. I drove out of my way to go there so I could treat myself to one of their (formerly) delicious muffins. I bought a cranberry/orange/walnut muffin and an apple muffin, and was very disappointed that the apple muffin had no apple in it - just doughy. The cranberry muffin tasted days old - not fresh. I couldn't understand why they would sell a day(s) old muffin for full price, when it should have been offered as "day old" and charged half price. They charge 50 cents just to slice a single bagel and charge $7 for a small cream cheese, so be prepared to shell out some serious cash if you're buying for a group. read more

I wouldn't come out of your way to come here. It was my only option and it was ok. Americano was delish but the bagels were sub par. I worked in a bagel shop and they weren't fresh out of the oven tasting . A little thin on the cream cheese too.
