Overall: Lies and deception! After a nice dinner with lots of different food items and drinks, a waitress came over immediately after the bill was paid to tell us we needed to leave, a party was waiting on our table. My mom asked for 5 minutes to finish our drinks, but we were refused. As we're chugging our drinks, the waitress came back and said we could stay since the party needing our table had left. Clearly, there was no reservation and we were being shooed out for some walk in customers. Horrendous treatment. Buttermilk and Burbon is such a good spot. The atmosphere is so, so cute. The fried chicken might just be the best I've ever had, and I do not say that lightly. Even now, I still dream of this chicken. The Mac and cheese was also incredible. So flavorful and cheesy. The crab dip is the only thing bringing the rating down. One of our go-to spots in Boston, but sadly, some changes recently have us second-guessing. The service is still amazing, but a couple of the dishes weren't quite what we remembered. The chicken, which they're known for, used to be a nice, big portion but now it's just chunks, and you can only choose between chicken wings or boneless thighs. The mac and cheese was another letdown. It used to have these great cuts of pork, but this time it was just bits of ham. We've seen other reviews mentioning that some dishes have been inconsistent lately too. Hope they get back to what they did best! read more

Located in back bay, Buttermilk and Bourbon has such a fun and trendy atmosphere. There is seating inside and outside on the patio. There are two whole different vibes when you compare the two. The inside is decorated very cool and there's tons of interesting art around. We were seated outside and it was very nice for the time of the year. It's not too loud so great for a date night. The service was super good! Our server was kind and helpful with guiding us on what to order. Also, on Eid our drinks came out not very good and she was kind enough to take it back and have it remade. The meal was not very expensive and we were able to get a ton of food to try. Got the Dirty South Fries (5/5 definitely would recommend), Viet Cajun Crispy Cauliflower (4/5 sauce was a tad strong and cauliflower wasn't really crispy but still solid), Honey Glazed Baby Back Ribs (4/5 super tasty but very burnt), Fried Chicken Sliders (5/5 yum), and Buttermilk Fried Chicken (5/5). The food here is great and I always recommend to friends and family in town. Reservations and seating can be tough at peak hours but the chicken and biscuits are worth the wait. The interior reminds me of a southern dive eatery! We've been here a few times and don't notice many changes to the menu. read more

Delicious!!! Visited Boston for a girls trip and was so glad to get reservations here for breakfast. Interior is very cute and cozy. I ordered the spiked iced coffee and loved it. It was sweet but still strong. I also tried the frozen coffee which I found to be stronger. We shared the biscuits as an app. It came with 4 huge biscuits and 2 butters, a cheese one and brown sugar one. The cheese one was our favorite. All breakfast dishes were delicious as well and very filling. One downside is parking. We came on a Sunday morning and couldn't find anything for a while. read more

This was my first time in Boston and it was a Sunday. I decided I wanted to have a great brunch so I saw this location and when I went in they had availability so my husband and I decided to grab a table and enjoy our food. Well, I must say this location had the best French toast and grits and even the eggs was amazing if I go back to Boston, I will definitely be going back to buttermilk and Bourbon.. As for the service, our waiter was great. The kitchen was about to close off for brunch so we had to put in our order if we wanted food from the brunch menu one thing I could say is that when your food is ready, they will bring it out, so my husband's food came out before my own and then my food came out maybe 5 to 8 minutes later Which was a little weird but it was OK because the food taste amazing so I'll give them a pass for that. As you can see from my photos, the ambience was great. It had like a New Orleans feeling so the decor definitely was nice overall I would definitely go to buttermilk and bourbon again and if you are in the Boston area, I definitely suggest that you check them out. read more

Had to stop by Chef Jason's spot it's been awhile and hasn't disappointed! Parking is always a pain but we snagged a spot off newbury street and walked over since comm ave in this area is all residential ! Love the decor, the staff was very nice and accommodating. We got the alligator fries which had great flavor (wish it was a bit hotter temp wise), finished that plate though. Whatever the sauce is melds well and the crispy fritter bits on top help with texture in contrast with the saucy fries. Thoroughly loved the flavor profile though scrumptious! The BBQ shrimp reminded me of a gumbo plate. We did have a small temp issue as that dish came out mildly warm and the house made it right expediently and the re-fired or heated plate came out perfectly hot and tasty! Thank you for that, the lady was happy. A+ service ! Ofc we also needed to have them beignets, loved it, flaky light and crispy. The fried chicken thighs were great crispy and hot. We had an awesome Father's Day brunch at Buttermilk & Bourbon when we were in Boston a week and a half ago. We walked in and were able to get a table mid-morning. The place was busy and the service was top notch as well as the food. The restaurant is located in the basement and you walk down the steps from the street. It's located right on Boston Common, which is a lovely area of town. I started with a Creole Old Fashioned for Father's Day. It was delicious and I copied the recipe and will try and make one at home one day. We ordered the homemade honey glazed biscuits which were delicious. My son ordered the Wagyu Beef Sliders, he enjoyed them. I ordered the Brisket Benedict and a side of Jalapeno Grits. Both were delicious and the eggs were done right. My wife and her mother split an order of Chicken and Waffles. They enjoyed that as well. There were so many great choices on the menu and we bookmarked this place for a future visit!! And after eating all of that, you can take a nice stroll on the Commons after to walk it all off. read more

Was really excited to try a Jason Santos restaurant. Seen him on bar rescue and Hell's Kitchen! Visiting Boston for the night, wanted to try some drinks/late night apps. Got there just after 9:00. Sat at the bar. Bartender was unattentive and didn't seem to care ... gave us menus, had to get his attention for drinks after a few minutes, (it was not busy at all, only 4 other patrons at the bar), and took our order. Drinks were fine, he never checked back in on us to see how our drinks were or if we wanted food. We sat right in view of the camera, so you should can take a look to check this all out. Strong drinks, good portions and great value. I came in expecting Buttermilk & Bourbon to be more of a traditional Southern comfort food establishment but was pleasantly surprised to be offered a New Orleans (NOLA) centric menu. Nachos were a great start to our meal (though we were tempted by the biscuits) and were flavorful and generous with the brisket. Entrees were also very reasonable (on average ~$15) and featured a good selection ranging from your traditional shrimp and grits to steamed mussels. My order of BBQ shrimp ($15) was delicious and the jalapeño grits were a good pairing. The andouille sausage was a bit less pronounced in the dish but all in all was a great, and lighter, option on the menu. If you're in the MA area it's worth checking out one of their locations (whether it's the Back Bay or Watertown locations) and dining in. Next time I'll make sure to leave room to try their beignets! read more

The fried chicken especially wings were mediocre. They were too dry and a bit too overseasoned. The biscuits were incredibly delicious. Rich flakey glazed and surprisingly a bit moist and not chalky. The maple sugar/syrup flavor reminds me of cornbread a little bit. Drinks: they make really well balanced drinks but the selection changes. The surprisingly cool drink is the frozen mimosa which was honeydew the day we went. Would recommend if it's a good flavor! Ambience/Decor/Service: waiter was super helpful and quick. Eating here was a total impulse decision but after getting turned away by Saltie Girl, we gave B&B a go. FYI, if you decide to eat outdoors here, make sure to bundle up because our heat lamp was not generating really any heat, while the one next to the neighboring table was roaring away. The good: 1. The Scarlett Green salad. I've given up raving over restaurant salads, as most of them tend to be mediocre for the price, but this was one of the best I've had recently, with toasted quinoa (which I'll have to start doing at home), persimmon, burrata and blueberries. 2. The signature warm honey biscuits. There's a reason why these are featured so prominently in the menu. You cannot come here without ordering these, especially paired with the cinnamon butter and the cheese that come on the side. The ok: My friends all liked the scallop and butternut chowder but deemed the fried chicken wings and the fried chicken sliders just okay. The bad: I found a long blonde hair in the salad - none of us eating there had blonde hair. Whomp. Food came out fast! If I came back, I'd make a meal just out of those biscuits. read more

I also had the Baked Oysters Bienville which included, lobster bisque, parmesan, and roasted garlic bread. It was served in a cast iron skillet and was to die for. I left nothing in the skillet. I was on Newbury around dinner time and decided to try this restaurant. I appreciated how the music wasn't too loud so you could still have a conversation. Viet-Cajun Watermelon & Cucumber Salad - the salad was very unique and the flavors surprisingly worked. The sauce had a little bit of kick to it but the watermelon, cucumber, and mint helped tone down the spice. This was my favorite dish of the night! Signature Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits - the biscuits were glazed with honey on the top and soft and fluffy on the inside. The pimento cheese spread was my favorite but the smoked cinnamon butter was also very good. Fried Chicken (wings) with sweet & spicy sauce - the sauce wasn't my favorite because the spices weren't balanced. It tasted very tangy with a little bit of spice. We sat at the bar, the atmosphere was really fun if not an interesting combination. Definitely felt the southern influence in both the decor and the food. They played good modern music that ranged across genres. Our bartender generally had to be flagged down if we wanted anything but he was great and we got everything we ordered fairly quickly. Great date night spot with both indoors and outdoor seating. Inside has a rustic white brick and ivy thing going. We order several things to share and they were all delicious. The baby back ribs were fall off the bone tender and the coleslaw underneath was perfection. The New Orleans shrimp was tender and slightly spicy. My favorite dish of the night was the baked Brie which came with toasty bread, candied nuts and peaches. We tried their house special fried chicken with white BBQ sauce. It was juicy inside and crispy outside but not too special compared to everything else. For desserts the beignets were freshly fried and coated with powdered sugar. Super crunchy. They were very busy when we sat down but we got our food order placed pretty quickly. What a fun place! Came here before an event I was going to and had the best meal. The restaurant itself is so cute and feels like you've been transported straight to New Orleans! Decor feels like even some of the infamous New Orleans ghosts are going to come out to play, too... The honey butter biscuits are an absolute must. No question. Second time here for brunch and I'm still in love with their signature fried chicken slider and honey glazed biscuits the portions for those are big and just a warm bite of the southern flair! The salad with strawberries was also very solid with a good mix of sweet and crunch. However, the soft shell crab special feels like somewhat of a scam -- it's such a small dish for $20+? The service was also mediocre given peak brunch time, as it takes forever to get the check and to go boxes. Ambience is otherwise great for a casual weekend brunch on Newbury, especially the patio.
