We stopped in here for dinner on a Saturday night after a Red Sox game. We didn't have a reservation. The hostess greeted us and said they were entirely full but the bar seating was first come first served and that we could sit there so we did. The bartender was friendly. We ordered to martinis and they came quick and were good. We had the arancini as an appetizer which was good. We then shared the chicken sliders and Mac and cheese for dinner. The chicken sliders were great. They are messy, but good, and very sizeable for sliders. The Mac and cheese was only okay. It was a little more runny than thick which was unexpected. We also shared a side of the focaccia toast. It wasn't bad, but I would skip it next time. We had two espresso martinis for dessert which were good as well.
Large restaurant with very unique and eclectic designs inside. Food was very good but know that the portions are small. The shrimp and grits were enjoyable (slightly salty for me) and the fusilli pasta was delicious. Service was good. We came during brunch but the items we wanted weren't available until dinner so we returned Sunday night. Check the hours because the servers told us they don't open every day.
Service was friendly but a little slow. Menu was unique. Portions of sides were small/overpriced (~6 asparagus stalks for $9). Chicken sliders were okay but nothing special. Overall: neat venue but likely wouldn't go back (rarely in Boston so definitely not a "must do" when visiting. If I lived here, I'm guessing I'd find other go-to).
We had a reservation which was a good thing as there was a line when they opened in the morning. Service was decent. The drinks were surprisingly strong. They have a lot of options for drinks. The food was decent. The chicken sliders were okay but nothing to write home about. The tater tots were the best thing on the menu for sure. It's quite dark and can be loud inside. It's good for a group with a reservation but I won't rush back.
Was in Boston a few weeks ago for a conference and forgot to do a write up ! Owner Jose Santos has an amazing New Orleans inspired restaurant that serves Southern Cuisine . Not sure the of the part of the city it's in maybe Beacon Hill as I'm a New Yorker ! The restaurant was cozy in a lower space of a brownstone building . We ordered tapas and had everything (almost !) on the Tapas menu . They did have full entrees but we were full off the Tapas . There were 4 of us and there was plenty of food . The Louisiana Crawfish Arancini , cast iron baked Brie with homemade potato chips , broccoli , Cajun catfish bites ( which has the most amazing sauce !!), Tuna Tartare and the steak tips were amazing!! The table next to us had the Buttermilk fried chicken which I wanted but after all the tapas we were done ! Dessert was the Beignets that were delish !! I honestly don't remember what we drank because the food was so good ! I'd go back if I'm in Boston . Pack your patience looking for a park because it's like Brooklyn trying to find spots . You can use an app to find the nearest lot to pay and walk . Reservations preferred . I used Open Table .
We love Boston and typically get up there for a long weekend each year. We almost always stay in the Back Bay Area because you can walk everywhere. This trip we walked to an afternoon game at Fenway and we wanted to try some new restaurants we haven't tried. The reviews for Buttermilk & Bourbon were pretty good so we gave it a try. I must say it started off a little frosty with the hostess. We arrived a little early and wanted to know if it was possible to be sat. No big deal if it wasn't possible, but mind you the restaurant was half empty. Anyway, she says another reservation is coming and says we can sit at the bar. Long story short, we wind up sitting outside at a table we had to clean off. She was very cold. Now to the food. Our server, Elsa, was wonderful and saved our experience. Elsa explained the menu, which is pretty much tapas, so it's best to order a few things and share. The chicken sliders, chicken thighs, and burger sliders were good. The oysters were phenomenal as was the shrimp cocktail. The honey glazed biscuits were ok. Our drinks were very good (old fashion, lavender porch lemonade). We would definitely recommend and return to try some other items on the menu. Once again, thank you Elsa for turning our experience into a great time!!!
Ah, if it were just the biscuits. That would be a five star review. But they need so much work in other areas. Just a few standouts in otherwise forgettable food, and the service was pretty pathetic. Seriously, we were eating dessert with all the plates from our meal STILL ON THE TABLE. No one ever bothered to take away a single plate, save the huge oyster platter. We arrived on a Saturday night at 6:00 without a reservation. They kindly told us that we could have a high top (bar seating) if we could be done by 7:30 for another reservation. No sweat, and good to have the heads up. The decor is interesting. Nice ceiling. We got some oysters and the biscuits. The oysters were just so-so, but maybe it was the variety? Not sure, as it was not stated. But those biscuits-wow! Fantastic, as I'm sure you've read. They come with a couple of different butters, but you don't really need them, and since the biscuits are "honey glazed" imo they don't really fit. My daughter got the chicken sliders, which she said were good. My wife had the clam and corn chowder. Just a couple of clams, and a little tough. She did the hush puppies tasted bitter, like the oil had not been changed in a while. Others shared the Viet-Cajun Popcorn Catfish, and the BBQ Shrimp. The catfish was cooked well, but not much on flavor. I could not really get what was the BBQ. It seemed more like a shrimp étouffée with grits. To me the flavor was too heavy with black pepper. We did try the beignets. Just okay. A little oily. The service - ugh. Our waiter we found out was one of the bartenders, and he would disappear for long stretches (and not behind the bar, although he seemed more interested in one customer vs the rest of the room). The other bartender saw us looking around and thankfully came over a few times, but we lacked basic service, like (as I've said) anyone clearing the table or checking on us. Maybe just go and try the biscuits.
Made reservations but came here an hour early and was seated right away. Ordered sliders, mashed potatoes, fried chicken wings and beignets. For drinks I had a mocktail, early riser. For the three of us including tip it was 111. Beautiful decor. Weird placement of bathroom. Loved the oyster bar. The food was really really good and came out quick. Would come back. Please keep in mind that food is served tapas style so it's shareable for the table.
Buttermilk & Bourbon was such a fun brunch stop in Boston. We absolutely stuffed ourselves with their honey-glazed biscuits, which come with smoked cinnamon butter and a pimento cheese spread. The biscuits were warm, fluffy, and just sweet enough. Keep in mind that those spreads ARE dangerous!!!! THEY'RE SO GOOD. We also got the Low Country Scramble, which came loaded with andouille sausage, tater tots, pimento queso, and a green tomato relish. It was rich but in a really satisfying way... it's the kind of dish you keep going back to even when you're already full. Just imagine how my stomach felt after this meal. And of course, we ended with the fried beignets a la mode (with vanilla ice cream) -- a must, should you ask. It's a southern brunch spot! Definitely on the heavier side, but worth every bite.
This review is only based on the food, the service was amazing! Super attentive and gave great suggestions. The fries were my favorite, the Cajun sauce was the perfect addition to the rosemary. The soup was very flavorful and good chunks of clam and potatoes. The fried chicken (got the boneless thighs and the sweet & spicy sauce) was okay. I felt like it could have had a better crunch and the sauce was just okay. The broccoli had a nice kick to it and you can definitely taste the char. The steak tips were well cooked, but the chimichurri was very lemony so it was hard to eat the mashed potatoes. Without the sauce, the mashed potatoes were great - very creamy and the onions added a good crunch. The wagyu sliders were yummy, I liked the sweet pickle on it.
Headed to Boston for a BREZZY BOWL wkend! On Saturday we decided to do some exploring and ended up at Buttermilk and Bourbon around 4pm-ish. A quick search on the socials and BB is highly-rated as a must when visiting, so we decided what the heck. I'm not sure what the hype is because our dinning experience was not memorable. It was definitely a one and done visit for us... A very cute garden level spot with some whimsical yet comfy decor. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, we elected for the coolness of the AC indoors. We were seated immediately and our server was Sophia, whom was pleasant. We started with some cocktails I opted for an Old Fashion and bestie went with the Upside Down Pineapple we ordered the signature warm Honey Glazed Biscuits. In addition we tried the Crispy Alligator Fries and Buttermilk Fried Chicken Thighs. I also ordered the Spicy P.E.I. Mussels. The Alligator Fries were not impressive. The basic yellow American cheese slices on top were not appealing to me. The buttermilk Fried chicken thighs were crispy and fried nicely however they completely lacked any seasoning. Now the Spicy P.E.I. Mussels, were good on the second attempt. Unfortunately, I had to send the first order back because it contained pork sausage. The biggest standout was the warm Honey Glazed Biscuits. With this place suggested as one of the must try spots, the biscuits are not enough to make BB worth the price tag or the hype. Needless to say we were underwhelmed. Just A Note: There is an additional charge for any extra butters or sauces requested.
I tried Buttermilk and Bourbon for the first time before Halloween. Here's my review on... Pictured dishes: - Fried Chicken Sliders: it was okay. The chicken was nicely fried and juicy, but I didn't like how the flavor of the slaw or sauce was too sweet. - Boneless Chicken Thighs: a bit under seasoned but good crisp and juiciness! - Swordfish: this was my favorite, but I couldn't find on the most recent menu as I write this post. Fish was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the sauce and sautéed veggies underneath were a great pair. - Collard Greens: a bit of a smokey flavor and worth a try, although not currently on the online menu either. - Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits: a must get! Quite dense so can half each piece with another person. I loved both the smoked cinnamon butter and pimento cheese spread. Not pictured dishes: - Loaded Fries: not currently on the online menu but it was a dish with alligator tots and French fries. Tasted like a well-seasoned fried chicken popcorn and fries. - Fresh Fried Beignets: doughy on the inside and powdered on the outside, and we got the chocolate dip. Not bad but not comparable to the beignets I have tried from New Orleans!

Have been here a couple times and the food never disappoints. A great place to go for brunch, lunch, or dinner. Definitely make a reservation as they are always busy. The biscuits are always a great starter to any meal. The holiday themed drinks during my recent visit definitely made my visit extra fun. read more

My first visit to Buttermilk & Bourbon was a Sunday morning. I wasn't able to secure a reservation, so my cousin & I decided to drop in exactly at 10:30 (when they open) to see if we could waitlist for a table. Luckily enough, they had space and we were able to be seated right when they opened at 10:30am without a reservation! (A true miracle!) I love the interior design and ambiance of the restaurant, with various atmospheres in different areas. I loved the blue-ish dark room we were seated in. The food was really good and the service was fast as well. Chicken and waffles are a favorite of mine and I love how soft and fresh the waffles were. The biscuits and gravy were good as well, but the sausage was a bit overpowering to the rest of the dish. Overall, I had an amazing time! Tip: Highly recommend making a reservation at LEAST two weeks in advance to secure a spot, because it gets busy very quickly! read more
A "Southern food tapas" place with great service and creative menu. Loved their little outdoor patio - it felt intimate while being able to enjoy the fresh air. My two girlfriends and I each got a pina colada mocktail which was very refreshing (but tasted more like a lime spritzer). We shared their famous biscuits, the BBQ pork nachos, their fried chicken (boneless thighs), and their Mac and cheese. Four dishes was actually quite a lot of food for three people - we had plenty left over to take home. As I was expecting, their biscuits were heavenly (and very filling so I'd recommend not eating an entire biscuit first thing otherwise you might not have room for the rest)! I also really liked the fried chicken which has several sauces to choose from (we got sweet and sour which was great). The nachos and mac & cheese weren't bad but not worth writing home about. The servers did a good job of checking in on us periodically and were very friendly. Would come back for another fun dinner out! read more

Food was fantastic . We got the egg scramble witha side of Grits and the chicken/waffles . Chicken and waffles were ok I honestly wouldn't order again. The grits were a ten out of ten. The egg scramble was a ten out of ten. I would definitely come back for those two items and try other things. The service was terrible we were sat in the corner and provided side tables as a dining table. We asked to move to one of the many tables available and were denied. There were more than four tables available in the room where we were sat . The next room over had atleast 2 tables free. I really dnt understand why we can't have a preference over reservations schedule 30 minutes later. Hostess should be able to better accommodate with such a large window between reservations. The server barely came over to us since we were so far away in that little corner. Things kept falling on to to the floor since the side tables were uneven. I didn't want to complain in person because the staff obviously didn't care what we had to say. read more
Went there for weekend brunch. Easy to get reservation for a party of four just a day ahead. They also now have outdoor seating now that the weather has warmed up. Their house special buttermilk chicken thighs was chef's kiss. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful! Also all the portions were huge. The benny my friends had was cooked to perfection as well. Also had a moonflower cocktail (not pictures) which pairs perfectly with the food. Good vibes, good food. (8.5/10) read more

Best calamari I've ever had. It was so crispy and well seasoned, unlike any other calamari anywhere else. Would definitely recommend getting it. The chicken was also perfectly seasoned and cooked. The a la mode beignets were good, but was not the highlight of the meal. I think the other two dishes were mind blowing, but beignets could've been skipped. Would love to come back to try more dishes. read more

Great little spot offering an array of creative cocktails and marvelous eats in a warm, cozy and eclectic setting with a very attentive staff. The bar id fun, the main dining areas are comfy and even the bathroom is a theatrical adventure. We had a few cocktails that were all so beautifully crafted and enjoyed and we shared the alligator fries which were quite tasty and tender. We had a great brunch here this past Sunday. The place is right off newburry and super close to the back bay station and copley station. The atmosphere and decor were great and I liked how the place was set up. We had a nice table in the back room which was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and always around when you needed them. Ordering was fast and easy and food came out quick. We tried their biscuits which were incredible. Served with a spreadable cheese and brown sugar sauce, they were so worth it. The buttery and sweet dish was biscuits on another level. I had the french beignets and tried the biscuits and gravy, a rare option from what I've seen in the area. Both were extremely tasty and with a deep flavor. The biscuits used were tha same as their signature ones so you can imagine the flavor. The whole brunch experience here was excellent and very worth it. Prices were great and food was very delicious. We have been thinking of trying Buttermilk & Bourbon for some time now and today, we were able to make it out to Commonwealth Ave to see what they're about! Love the aesthetic inside, it's definitely giving NOLA vibes in here... RUE BOURBON ;) We tried a little bit of everything for lunch today. Started off with the Nashville hot alligator fries ($15), sweet & spicy buttermilk fried boneless chicken thighs ($14), nola bbq shrimp ($15), & fresh fried beignets with chocolate ($10). Everything was flavorful and tasty. One thing I would like to comment on is the temperature of some of the dishes; I do enjoy my food hot so when food arrives warm-ish cold, it leads me to believe that they are just warming up food that has already been prepared in advance. The alligator fries & bbq shrimp both were not hot but our server was kind enough to send it back to make sure it's hot. Even though I could taste that it was seasoned well & yummy, it was definitely a game changer when the food came back hot. The sweet and spicy chicken was delicious! Piping hot (thank gosh!) and was definitely one of my favorites from this meal. The beignets were perfect. Light, fluffy, & crispy goodness. I would definitely come back again to get these two items. Keep in mind for if you go here, everything is family style portion, meant for sharing. Parking: This side of Commonwealth Ave is residential parking for the most part. You may have to circle around Newbury & Boylston, maybe check side streets, to find some parking. There's meter parking & garage/lot nearby. Conclusion: I'm not sure if I would come back soon, but if I do, I'd probably swing by, if in the mood, for some buttermilk fried chicken or just beignets & some drinks. read more

I went to this restaurant back in July when I visited for a business meeting in Boston, and what a hidden treasure! The overall ambiance was very moody and intimate, perfect place to grab dinner and drinks with friends or for a date night. They were packed when I went, so the service was kind of slow but understandably so because everything was absolutely delicious. I had the smashed cocktail which was really tasty, remnant of a strawberry lemonade with BOURBON and I had the Mac and Cheese, which came with pork belly scraps and hot Cheeto dust sprinkled on top! It was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend to anyone in the Boston area and I'd love to come back and try something else next time. read more

Three of us booked a hightop for brunch on Saturday in the ceneter room with the bar. That was the only table we could snag but it was fine, though given my druthers I would have chosen to sit in the larger room to the left with more of a New Orleans vibe. We ordered what anybody really should order at B & B: --Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits. Crunchy, warm, soft on the inside and with a combination of sweet and salty that paired perfectly with either of the spreads that come with it--pimento cheese or cinnamon butter. --Fresh Fried Beignets, we got them with the chocolate dipping sauce. Buttery, sweet, wam etc.... --Buttermilk Fried chicken, boneless thighs. I preferred the BBQ syrup over the sweet and spicy sauce. These were three very large pieces of chicken and we brought 1 1/2 pieces home. --New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. On initial tasting, somewhat overspiced but it grew on us, especially once we dug down to the grits. The portions and huge and calorically dense and the leftovers fed me breakfast lunch and dinner the next day, that's just a big plus. read more

I loved everything I had and super grateful to get a seat on a very busy Thursday night. Delicious oysters, fun cocktails and really good fried chicken. I'm from Nashville and really enjoyed the Nashville hot chicken wings. Wish I would have had some friends to share a few more items from the menu. The Halloween decorations were well done. Buttermilk & Bourbon was the first place we ate at during our visit and I'm disappointed to say it did not live up to our expectations. We came in a party of 4 on a Saturday around 1:30 pm and got seated immediately, so if you come for a late lunch you could probably get away with not making a reservation. We ordered the BBQ Shrimp, Calamari, Chicken Wings, Burrata, and Biscuits. I think out of all these things, I only enjoyed the biscuits(as the glaze and butters were delicious) and the burrata(just because I like cheese and bread). The calamari and wings tasted very oily and not flavorful at all, and on top of that they weren't even crispy. The BBQ Shrimp came with four tiny little pieces of shrimp under grits.... you're joking. I was excited to try since it had such great reviews on Yelp, but this place is a no in my book. So the place was almost full and I didn't have a reservation. To add insult, my three friends had NOT shown up. I asked for a table for four, and they sat me right away. I couldn't believe it! The waiter brought out water and I ordered a drink - the soft serve mimosa! The pineapple sorbet was delicious. The fried chicken was fire! I am going back today and adding more to my review when I get back and have more food. One thing I can say is the service was wonderful and they were super kind considering my trifling friends were an hour late. read more

This place is one of my faves, and I definitely prefer this Back Bay location over the Watertown location. It's a little bigger and more eclectic, and I really think that the food and service is much better too!!! I recently had my family and friends in town and took them here for dinner. They loved it!!! This place is definitely more fun with a group of people, so you can order a little bit of everything and share. As a side note, it can be a little on the pricey side, so just be cognizant of what you order and how the items can be shared. Also, ... unpopular opinion ... but I do feel like the cocktails are overrated and overpriced at both locations, and you can definitely save some money or use it more wisely on another food dish ... instead of another cocktail. So ... some of my must haves ... the Jumbo Peel & Shrimp Cocktail, the House Special Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and the Signature Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits. I get them every single time, and every single time ... they do not disappoint. read more
Really great experience here on a Friday night for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. Shareable plates make it so you can order a bunch of dishes and try different things. The honey biscuits - OMG - they are unbelievable. Of course each one is probably like a thousand calories but hey forget about those while you're eating these. So so good!!!! The fried chicken is amazing! The baked Brie with toasted bread was really decadent and delicious. Sliders were good too and so were the spare ribs. The place is massive inside with different areas/rooms with a really great decor. Clearly a very well designed space. Everywhere you look you find eye-catching architecture and interiors and furnishings. Lots of character to this place. And I think it was decorated for Halloween if you look at the skeleton artwork on the wall - picture below - this was right above our table and there was a really cute nook at the corner wall with a lamp. Plus it's nice they have outdoor seating for warm weather. Service was great! Our friend ordered dessert ice cream and we all sang happy birthday to her. After that the server brought out another ice cream (pink bubble gum flavor) for her as well. Overall a great time was had by all. Definitely recommend B & B! read more

My first visit was an amazing experience. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and the servers were extremely friendly. Each room is themed to reflect different areas around New Orleans. The cocktails were both delicious and unique. I still crave and dream about the biscuits, the Viet-Cajun crispy cauliflower, and the soft-serve ice cream. Although the Wagyu burgers looked a bit underwhelming, the first bite revealed a juicy explosion of flavor. Don't overlook those--they are absolutely worth it! I can't wait to go back! read more

My experience here was not great. I came here with only my husband. My husband received his meal 15 minutes before mine. I wanted him to start eating so that his food wouldn't get cold but he wanted to wait so that we could eat together. I ordered "buttermilk breakfast'. The eggs were barely lukewarm, the bacon seemed like it had been reheated, and the home fries were COMPLETELY cold. I could not even eat them. The only other thing on my plate was a biscuit which was just ok. My husband said his meal was good but not great. His was hot when it came...although by the time my meal came his was not as hot. Then it took forever to finally get the check. It wasn't particularly busy so I don't know what the problem was-maybe this is not the norm, but from my experience, I would not recommend this place. read more
I went here on a Saturday afternoon and had a great outdoor dining experience on the patio. They didn't have the full brunch menu available because it wasn't Sunday, but the specials menu had us covered. I got the buttermilk pancakes and the iced tea lemonade. I loved how the pancakes had fruity pebbles and the mocktail came garnished with a flower! It made the experience so cute. If you want a place with great food, amazing service, and cool speakeasy vibes this is it. The House Special Buttermilk Fried Chicken from Buttermilk and Bourbon is THE best-fried chicken I've had in a while. Paired with their White BBQ Sauce and Sweet and Spicy sauce. The boneless fried thighs are fried to a perfect crisp. I would catch a flight right now to have them again. The Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits from Buttermilk & Bourbon. These soft and warm biscuits are paired with a smoked cinnamon butter & pimento cheese spread. The pimento spread pairs perfectly with the honey taste of the biscuit. I still have dreams of these biscuits . The Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits stands alone perfectly, but they are also a great complement to the fried chicken from Buttermilk & Bourbon. read more
This place has been on my list for a while, and I finally stopped by a few weeks ago and am super happy that it exceeded my expectations! First of all, for a small plates place, the portions are huuuuge. We ordered four plates for two of us, and could have gotten away with half the food. We had plenty of leftovers, but I definitely wasn't mad about that. I had such a hard time picking from the menu--I'm already plotting my return so I can try some more dishes--but here's what we landed on: - 2 Fried Chicken Sliders - Crispy Short Rib Boudin Croquettes - Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits - New Orleans BBQ Shrimp I would order absolutely everything again, but the sliders and the biscuits were definitely the stars of the meal. The chicken was sooo juicy and flavorful, and the biscuits are served with both pimento cheese and cinnamon butter, so you could switch between sweet and savory with each bite. Next time I visit I'll definitely mix in one of the two salads on the menu cause this meal was heaaaavvvyyy, but I wasn't surprised with this being a Southern spot. For drinks, I went with the Green With Envy, which was decent but nothing to write home about. The vibe here is also 10/10. Each little room has a totally different feel, there's a lot of cool art and mood lighting, and the place was lively but not crazy loud. I'll be back for sure :) read more
Buttermilk & Bourbon was quite busy for a Wednesday evening! A reservation was made ahead of time for 6 of us pretty easily. All the dishes there are served tapas style and are made to share. The cocktail menu was extensive and pretty good. The service was quick. It was a little loud and hard to have good conversation due to how many people there were in the restaurant. The buttermilk fried chicken was a disappointment. However, I did enjoy the shrimp tapas and the biscuits. For my drink, I ordered a Smokey Dame. I really enjoyed it and it was not watered down. Since this is close to Newbury, street, parking was difficult to find. read more

This place was just fantastic! We sat in the bar area and lovely China was our waitress and bartender, she was so warm and friendly. Everything we had was great, the drinks were delicious, they really know what's going on!! Will definitely come back again. read more

Is the outdoor dining in Watertown rainproof?
No it's not rainproof. While there is a covering my at the top, 3 of the 4 sides (remaining side being that which adjoins the restaurant) of the outdoor seating area will be exposed to the elements.
Are kids allowed in this restaurant?
Yes, I saw some kids during one of my visits here before.
When are they opening their 2nd location at Allston?
They're opening in Watertown at Arsenal Yards, which is next to Allston. According to @Arsenalyards instagram they haven't announced a specific date but they said it'll be opening 2021.
Do they serve brunch menu on Saturdays?
I got the "main menu" listed on their site when I went in for Saturday brunch (around 12:30 pm).
Visiting in the summer from out of town. Can I wear shorts to dinner?
Yes definitely, assuming they're not gym shorts. It's not overly fancy.
How long is the wait with no reservations?
We walked in right before 5 and were seated at bar area and then told If we want a table just ask!
Kid Friendly and or Baby Friendly?
I would say that this place is definitely not kid friendly. It has a very mature vibe.
