Place is great. Not shabby to take friends or relatives for dinner or whichever. Nice chow down inside or outside. Food was good as expected. Our server Vanessa was super. She made sure we got what we asked for and kept checking on us.

Everything was amazing, the atmosphere, the food, and the service I especially loved the desserts, and the chips and salsa were absolutely delicious.

I used Cacao Mexicatessen for a dinner party recently. The food was delicious and the premade margaritas were a bit hit. All we had to do was add ice. The restaurant was very helpful in deciding quantities and the chef emailed me back to confirm the order and help me decide how much we needed. We ordered taquitos and chips and guacamole to start. The taquitos were yummy and the chips were so good I was eating leftover chips for two days straight. The taco meat and homemade tortillas were delicious and people really loved the trays of cheese enchiladas (one tray with mole and the other with red sauce). The rice and beans were good. The salad was absolutely wonderful. It would make a fantastic main course for a small dinner party, especially if you added chicken. (They made us a half size portion for 15 people.) The restaurant clearly labeled the food, so we could tell guests if the beans were vegan (yes). I'd be delighted to use them again for a future party.

Cozy and lively environment! Perfect vibe for cocktails. Tucked in a cute gem of a neighborhood, this Mexican restaurant serves flavorful CaliMex dishes. Our favorites were the unique bone marrow tacos and pozole (comes in generous portions and amazing with a side of hot tortillas).

I couldn't have had a better experience! Came here for the first time last Saturday and sat at the bar. Got the guava margarita which seems to be a hit - it is delicious! I ordered a carne asada taco and Ensenada fish taco, and also tried a bite of the Koreano taco which was very unique. Really enjoyed everything and looking forward to going back to trying their other tacos. Lively but chill vibes inside, great for catching a game. Bartenders are super warm and attentive.

    La Toxica - mango/pineapple - amazing!

Came here with a few friends and enjoyed the entire experience (minus parking) on a Saturday night. Luckily, after circling a few times someone left the parking lot in the back so I was able to park there. Everything was delicious. I ordered La Toxica and the Chicken and Poblano Cheese Mole (enough to share or leftovers). 10/10 - would recommend and will definitely order the same thing the next time I go back. It's right next to Trader Joe's in Eagle Rock. There are so many fun shops and art galleries in the area. The atmosphere was fun. Perfect for a date night or girls night out. Enjoy!

It's been a minute since coming back to this local fav in ER -- and, it's still worth it! Forget the big chain places that boast Mexican cuisine -- treat yourself to a better experience and more. Start with chips, salsa and guac to give your growling stomach time to calm and while you do, enjoy the lively music or watch a game at the bar. The ambiance, along with the service , is joyful. So, when will you go?

Let me start with the service, worst service I ever had, I don't expect anyone to receive me with a red carpet, but here no one smiles at you or try to get you a good service, the person in the entrance that tell you to get your menu and pick your seat, server same way no smile at all, no a how you doing today, nothing. That change the whole experience in a restaurant Let's talk about the food, around 2oz of beans $5.99 The tacos were ok but I guess not worth the price o well I want to say their focus would be the drinks, the place seems to be cool if you want to go and enjoy a drink. Hopefully it was a bad day and people get a better experience than mine

    Are the moles vegetarian?

Hi there! Yes, our mole is vegetarian.

Could you guys host a private lunch for 40 on the patio?

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate that large of a group inside dining nor on the patio. Thank you for thinking of us!

So they still serve breakfast? I loved their breakfast in the past, but don't see it on the menu.

No, now they don't open until the late afternoon.

    Are there any vegan options?

Most def! They got the vegetable-tarians covered!

Are the chips and tortilla corn or flour?

    Corn tortillas

What kind of fish is in the pan-seared fish burrito?

    Red Snapper, its phenomenal.

Is there complimentary chips and salsa?

You can pay for bottomless chips and salsa but it's not a free item.

Looking for a place that can make a vegan michelada. Does anyone know if they can make that here? Lol

I know that there's a vegan Worcester sauce, but I don't imagine that many places carry it

What time is happy hour? I moved out of town but want to come back when I'm visiting!

Should start @ 3:30 and might just be Tues-Thurs only, so I recommend calling. They are closed on Monday's

Is the pozole on the regular menu? I cannot locate it?

No. It is on rotation on Saturdays or a special. Best to call ahead and ask if it's on the menu for the day.

Did anyone notice that their delicious and fabulous wet burrito now comes with some sort of crazy cheese?? It breaks my heart. :-(

Hey Marjorie, Thanks for noticing. You can still order it with the classic melting cheese duo of pepper jack and cheddar.

This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

We were told seating was first come, first served, so when a table opened up outside, our group of five sat down while part of our group went inside to order. Almost immediately, my friends were aggressively accused by a waitress of bringing outside alcohol, which was completely untrue. Shortly after ordering multiple drinks and several plates of food, another staff member came to our table and began yelling at us, threatening to kick us out for being "rude" to staff, even though we had done nothing but order our food and drinks. What made it even more uncomfortable was watching other guests openly smoking weed while staff said nothing, yet our group felt watched, accused, and singled out the entire time. As the only Latino group sitting outside, the experience left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and discriminated against. As a fellow restaurant owner, I understand hospitality and house policies, which is why this treatment was especially disappointing. What should have been a fun birthday celebration turned into a terrible experience, and we ended up leaving early.
