I ordered a CARNE ASADA burrito with SOUR CREAM and marked I would like limes, onions & cilantro mixed, green salsa, and red salsa, and chips. Long overdue 1 star review. Don't get me wrong, I have ordered from this place a ton of times over the years--typically after hitting the bar next door. Context matters, and in that context, it's good. I'm writing this review after I decided to just get this for dinner--no post-bar nosh, just because I was hungry, and I wanted a fried fish burrito. Guys, Cactus is dead. Why is anyone still going here? They've increased the prices without increasing quality, or even MAINTAINING quality. $18 for a fish burrito with no chips. You seriously can't include 5 chips at that price? This place has totally lost the concept of value. It's a mediocre taco stand, and always has been--but there was a time where $12 here got you WAY more. The least you can do is include chips at that price point--I am confident you're not losing in overhead if you do so. Gestures like that show customers that you give AF. I feel like the only time we come here is for a drink either before dinner or after dinner. Usually it's while we're waiting for our table at the restaurant next door. It's a small taco spot right on the corner of Woodman and Moorpark, literally. I don't think I've ever had food here prior. But drink wise, they have beer on tap and some mixed drinks. Normally it's their classic lime margaritas that we get. I've had some of the flavored ones but classic was alway better. They do have a couple of other mixed drinks on hand. Price wise is great which is a major reason we stop by. There's both inside seating as well as patio which looks out to the street. From all the food we've seen come out, it alway looks great. Used to love this place. They have no personality when you order, no greeting, no smiles.. They jacked up prices and I paid $22 for a carne asada burrito supreme with double meat. $22! They were out of lettuce and the menu says onions and cilantro and there wasn't any in there. I asked why and she said "because some people are allergic". Why wouldn't they ask about an allergy if you want it and it says it's in there on the menu? Also spit out half of the "double meat" because it was unchewable gristle. I love this place -- it's truly one of my favorites! They have the best michelada I've ever tried. The quesadilla is super tasty, and according to my friends, their margaritas are the best in town. I don't drink alcohol at all, but michelada here is the one and only drink I allow myself -- and only at this place, maybe once every six months. That says a lot! read more

Parking is a bitch here. You have maybe 7 spots and one half of the lot is shared by a nearby Veterinarian spot. I come here because it's less busy than the one down the street. This morning the lady acknowledged me right away. I ordered the bacon and egg's breakfast burrito. Comes with refried beans and fries. I got two green salsas on the side with a small Horchata. Burrito is pretty good sized. Horchata is delicious from Cactus at both locations. I paid under $20 for both. Tortilla was fresh and overall I'd say their pricing is very fair for what you get. They also threw in some fresh chips on the side. I'd absolutely recommend them and the food is always made fresh and really good. read more

The red hot sauces were good, except the habanero sauce was supposed to be extra spicy. It wasn't that spicy. Still decent. They were out of birria. Bummer. My favorite Cactus Taqueria! Lucky number 4! On the corner of Woodman Avenue and Moorpark Street, across from The Oaks Tavern, this Taqueria is a one you'll enjoy. The service is always super nice, plenty of seating inside and out, overlooking a slice of Sherman Oaks #LocalFlavor. They serve cerveza and vino among other things and of course all the yummy Mexican classics for comida. Great tacos, taquitos, tostadas, burritos, you name it! Salsa bar in front near the main register and some bar seating as well. Mostly tall tables/barstool style with a menu on the main long community style table when you walk in. It's first come first serve for seating. And with such a big menu for a LA chain staple, you'll definitely want to sit down and enjoy yourself. Maybe order a bev on special CT#4 will usually have a good game, sporting event or special on their flat screens playing, music in the BG (background), great lighting and forever inviting energy. The veggie menu is my go to with all their vegetarian items, that can also be made vegan. You'll see the veggie items under each category: bowls, breakfast, etc. You can do takeout, delivery or dine-in. I've done all of the above! Parking is there, but limited as they have neighboring businesses. Street parking is available too. Or if you're local it can be a good walk. The LADOT DASH has a stop right next to Cactus and a few local LA Metro busses have routa paths with stops nearby as well. Restrooms available. Wi-Fi too! I should have read the Yelp reviews before i ordered!!! The most mediocre Mexican food i have ever had in LA? I think so .. ladies at the counter were very nice but they did get my order wrong and then when I went to the counter to tell them, I ordered red not green sauce, She said I think you'll like it and did not offer to change it. The chili Reno just seems like I've been sitting there all day. It was a soggy, oily, flat , egg, battered chili covered in a red sauce that just didn't help save it. The cheese enchilada, that I wanted with red sauce, came with green sauce covered in sour cream and something that tasted like Parmesan. They have lots of beer on top and two big TVs playing sports so if you're looking for a spot to have some chips and salsa with a beer on a busy corner in Sherman Oaks this could be your spot. I'm gonna review Cactus for what it is, a taqueria, not a sit down table-service restaurant. My family and I absolutely love this place. Yes, the patio and seating arrangements are a bit weird. However, coming in here you get excellent food, friendly service, good prices, and a full belly. The salsas are all wonderful, and I recommend trying each of them. I honestly drive out of my way here to get their veggie burrito. A lot of places will jam a veggie burrito full of grilled veggies and unnecessary ingredients. The one here is pure with lettuce, rice, beans, cheese, and some tomato. Its also delicious, and it exactly what I want when I order it. Alternatively, the nachos never disappoint. The cheese Cactus uses is fantastic. I always have to pace myself otherwise I'll just keep eating. Load your order up with the mild or spicy salsas (I use both) and enjoy! read more

Not sure what happened to Cactus. Used to get it all the time. It's been a while, was in the area and decided to get a California burrito. Phone it in ahead of time and made a mistake of not checking when picking up. Got home and it's a regular burrito instead of California. The carnesada meat used had a bunch of fat. Ordered two fish tacos, they claim to be red snapper and they had the consistency of COD I would even say Pollock. The breading was heavily soaked in grease, which would indicate they don't change the oil often, and at last, I couldn't eat the fish, was hard and dry. No possible way it was snapper. So yummy! Bff and I had planned on grabbing a bite at nearby HomeState on Cinco de Mayo- the line was long (w a 55min take out order wait) and we both know I don't do waiting. That's when my bestie suggested Cactus and I was all in. We arrived to a very short line. The carne asada quesadilla was soooo yummy! The chipotle salsa was my fav. He ordered a carne asada torta. I couldn't try it, I'd made fresh guac at home and already had a couple margs, a bag of Tostitos and salsa but it looked good, if you're into that sort of thing. I also ordered a flan that I devoured in about 60seconds flat. This place is really tasty! I want to think it's all of the time not because I'd been drinking (my margs, made the best way!) but if you've by chance had a few drinks I hands down guarantee this place will hit the spot! The price is right for great portions. My quesadilla was massive, an entire full meal. Service was friendly, helpful and our food was ready in a very reasonable time. Wow.. everything seemed like it was going well. I used to eat here before it became a Cactus. I had there once soon after I became a cactus and didn't care for it. My friend wanted to eat there so we went last week. He grew up in LA and loved going to his local one at Beverly. He and I were both disgusted With the food they served us. The Al Pastor looked like cheap Chinese food meat. The Birria was watery no flavor and scarily room temperature. My friend got sick within two hours. Neither one of us will ever return. 6 tacos and rice and beans- All Cold. Then I read Russel F's review and agree that service happened to me also. Things had bland or no flavor. We had to pay for chips and salsa and they don't have salsa - they only have hot sauce. read more

We came here for dinner one evening after work as we were very hungry. We came here a couple of times before and the Mexican food was decent but nothing special. The only reason we came back really is because of the ample parking, when street parking for other places is full or restricted. I ordered a burrito which was decent if you're hungry but nothing special. However my wife ordered a tostada with grilled shrimp off the menu which specifically said grilled shrimp. She got a tostada with fried shrimp, which she doesn't eat and aside from that the batter was disgusting. She pointed out the error on the menu to the lady at the counter, she pretty much ignored it saying the menu is wrong and that's just the way it is. They didn't even offer to redo it or apologize. If management is reading this (as there are multiple locations) I hope you fix the menu and hire better service staff. We will not be coming back here ever again. read more

Date: July 28, 2022 I had my glucose testing today at my OB so I had to fast the night before. Since the love took half the day off to watch our little guy, we decided to go grab lunch together before he left to work. Originally was gonna go grab Let's Pho but saw this place next door and decided to try it out. It's located right at the corner hill and next to a sewer or something because it smelled pretty bad outside. The restaurant itself is nice though. Walk in and they have the counter to your right to order. The menus are on the table in front of you but there's no photos or list of meats or anything like that. So we had to ask a lot of questions. 1. Burrito w/ choice of meat & cheese ($10) - the love for this one with Birria as the choice of meat. We originally asked for onion, cilantro and salsa but it didn't come with any of those. He said it was good but extremely oily. Not a surprise Cuhs Burrira is normally pretty oily but he said it was completely drenched in his burrito. 2. 3 Taco plate ($13) - I got this one with an asada, a pastor and a carnitas choices of meat. It comes with rice & beans as well as a mini salad with guacamole. All the meats were hard and very bland. I was pretty disappointed. Also forgot the onions, cilantro, and salsa that we asked for. 3. Diet Coke ($1.75) - accidentally gave us a coke instead. Had to ask for an exchange. 4. Small side of chips ($1.50) - chips were alright. They have four different types of salsas ranging from mild to extremely spicy, so be careful! Sadly the chips didn't last very long as I had to throw them away after 3 hours due to being stale and soggy. But a small is plenty. They don't shiest on the chips! Overall not my favorite taco joint but glad we got to try it out. The ladies were also so-so, they were not mean but gave off an attitude like they didn't want to answer your questions or like 'man, this person keeps asking for stuff' vibe. That's why I didn't go back to ask for the onions, cilantro and salsa and just ate my tacos as is. It was worth a try but sadly not a place I'd return to. read more

I was next door and needed to kill some time, so I came here. I had no expectations, but upon walking in, I was not impressed. Nothing about the layout or decor was appetizing. The surfaces appeared to be dirty and even the menu was taped to a table at the cash wrap, just looking at it made me want to sanitize. Certainly not the impression I would want for my patrons about to eat. There were 5 employees that looked at me and not once was I greeted. I approached someone and they stood there with what appeared to be their manager as their register was counted. He said someone would be right with me. After 4 minutes, someone finally walked up to the other register to help me, but just then the phone rang and they decided to take that phone order before helping me. I almost walked out but I was hungry and choices in the immediate vicinity are limited. While the 2 cashiers and manager were preoccupied, someone else hopped on the register to take my order after 6 minutes. After a scan of online reviews, most recommendations were for the Fried Shrimp Tacos and I can't eat at a Mexican restaurant without trying their Al Pastor and Horchata, here are my ratings. 4 - Al Pastor Taco (Tasted old and flavorless) 5 - Fried Shrimp Taco (The slaw and sauce were bland, as a whole left something to be desired) 5 - Horchata (was not good, reminded me of packaged instant Horchata) 7 - The star of the meal was the Mild Salsa, which I presume isn't made in house, because it was very flavorful. I definitely don't recommend this restaurant. Stick with Salsa & Beer or any street vendor in the valley for a better experience. read more

Been going here for years and the taste quality has definitely gone down as well as the service. This review is mainly concerning the service because whenever I go no one is ever friendly or helpful. I called to place a pickup order and was told to hold, no problem, however I could hear the background so the phone wasn't muted and sat on hold for a while until I was already at the location. I sat in my car waiting until they would take my order but looking inside it didn't look busy at all. I decided to just go inside and when I walked in there was no line and maybe 2 parties eating. I saw the girl who told me to hold just standing there so clearly they forgot about me being on the phone. I got my order and told them to put onions on the side and of course when opening my food there were absolutely no onions, just meat and a tortilla. As you may know, this absolutely takes away from the flavor of a real taco if you have no onions and just a sad plain tortilla. This is literally the 8th time that I haven't gotten onions on my tacos. It ruins my meal every single time. read more

My boyfriend and i will drive all the way from the west side of the valley to come here when we want tacos & michis! I wish they had a location in the Canoga park area. The horchata is amazing as well. I've always had great service. When the weathers nice we like to sit outside. I am not a fan of the valley, but when I do go here for a car wash down the street, I always like to stop by Cactus Taqueria. I'm in love with their Shrimp Ceviche, it's so good! I also get the lime margarita with tajin on the rim and the 3 grilled shrimp taco combo that comes with rice and beans. The drink is hit or miss depending on what day you come. The tacos are ok (make sure you emphasize grilled or they will give you the fatty fried tacos). I don't really care for the rice and beans but I get the combo b/c it's about the same price as getting the 3 tacos by themselves. My boyfriend gets the beef enchiladas combo. He said it's just ok. This is a good spot if you're hungry. It's filling, the people are cool, and sometimes they give you an extra bag of chips with the salsa if you ask ;-) read more

All the food came out wrong, extra sides we paid for wasn't added. $10 guac for a single person portion. It was fine. Could've been better if the chips and tostada didn't taste like a 5 year old dusty tortilla. I never give bad reviews as I give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was the most disgusting food I've ever had.
