Rare to find a Vietnamese restaurant on the Eastside since Vietnamese people usually stay more south, but I'm glad it's here where it's more safe to be. This hot pan bred steak cube dish is amazing. They do it okay. They kinda lackin on the sauce at the bottom of the pan and the meat kinda chewy. The portion is also kinda small for the price point but that's a pretty big nitpick. It's solid but I've had better. My vermicelli dish was small and not bad not great. Pho no. Do not. 3.5 star + 0.5 star for serving chicken pho which is bit of rarity. A very small cafe where you can see the people put in effort to give you a good service. I know they are new and I really appreciate that. Chicken Banh-mi and Chicken Pho was our main order. Taste wise both dish were good. I would like some more chicken in my banh mi - but the taste was delicious and baguette was super buttery and nicely done. Also The spice level is too low but I think this was intentionally done to cater to general taste- get the sriracha on your banh mi and this would then taste amazing. The chicken broth in the pho was delicious, hearty and warm. The only change I wish - for the small portion maybe serve in a bigger bowl so its easier to eat and add more broth, since, my noodle to broth ratios was bit off. I ate (for first time) Nha Trang Dumpling that they serve. Without having any point of reference I personally did not like this a whole lot. Probably they are good and it is just my personal taste- but I felt they were too sticky/starchy, and the insides needed to be seasoned a bit. With fish sauce it tasted decent I will visit this again to try thei new offerings for sure. So thrilled to have another Vietnamese good option on the Eastside! My mom and I ordered the Bo Ne Nha Trang, a chicken salad and grilled chicken banh mi. Everything arrived quickly, was well seasoned and piping hot. Despite how busy it was, our service was prompt and friendly. Cute little strip mall restaurant. We had the pho and vermicelli bowl, the pho was delicious, great broth and quality meat. The vermicelli bowl was disappointing in flavor, both for the sauce and meat and was missing daikon. The noc cham was lacking and unfortunately, it's a huge part of what makes the dish so yummy. I think there is room for improvement on some things, but we'll definitely be back to give it another try in a couple of weeks. read more

I have been searching for a restaurant that has Banh Mi with pate, which is my favorite style. But, for an appetizer, I had to try A5, Fresh Spring Rolls Ninh Hoa; it had "grilled minced pork" in them and I had not had this style before. It was delicious and the dipping sauce was perfect with it. Lots of fresh veggies in the roll instead of the copious amounts of rice noodles that other restaurants use as a cheap filler. After that, I had the B4. Banh Ni Nha Trang. It had pork belly, ham, pork jerky, and pate. It also was excellent. Nice balance of meat and fresh veggies. The roll was good, but not excellent; a fresher, crustier roll would have been nice. The young woman running the cafe was very pleasant and charming. On the day that I went, the kitchen was backed up and slow; she said that they were short-staffed that day. She also said that they had just opened recently and were still trying to work out the kinks. The name Cafe 79 comes from the prefecture where her family lived in their southern Vietnam city. Decent Vietnamese place. It wasn't anything particularly stand out or memorable for me but the food was decent. I had the combination pho and my husband had a a Vietnamese pancake (more like an omelet). The servers were very nice although the space felt smaller and parking was available but you might have to dive further away from the restaurant for a spot. Ordered some takeout from Cafe 79 for lunch. The grilled pork with rice (com thit heo nuong) was delicious and came with veggies and fish sauce on the side. Staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Most of the tables were full at lunchtime on a Sunday. -1 star because food took about 20 min longer than originally estimated over the phone, so spent quite a while waiting for the food to be ready after arriving at the reataurant. Hopefully this is just due to the restaurant being new and still figuring out the lunchtime rush. read more

Finally found a Vietnamese restaurant in the east side that I love. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. This seems trivial to gush about but I LOVE their fish sauce. It's full of flavor (salty, sweet, and gingery). It pairs well with the chicken rice plate and pork vermicelli bowl. The only thing I wish for was that the chicken rice plate had more chicken. We ordered pho to go. The broth came in a container and separately they gave us raw meat wrapped in plastic but in the same box as vermicelli completely disregarding food safety. We had a 20 minute drive to our hotel, which did not have a stove or a microwave. We come from the east coast, and we've had authentic pho many times before but when one orders a treasure out normally the restaurant places meat into the boiling broth so what uncooked raw steak doesn't touch other food. I'm so angry. On top of that no utensils or napkins were added. If I could give the place zero stars I would. Do not order takeout from here! read more

Small neighborhood type place with a fairly substantial menu. Ingredients and flavors were fresh and authentic. Got the pork vermicelli bowl, fresh rolls, and chicken wings. The fish sauce on the wings was a bit strong so I could see some not liking the flavor. The vermicelli bowl portion sizing was quite big for lunch and should be plenty for most people; good value for the size. The first time we ate at this restaurant we thought we found our go to place for dry noodle bowls. There wasn't anything special about the food but it was better than the usual Vietnamese offering nearby. The food isn't cheap, a lunch meal for two can be about $55 to $60. The second time we ate there, we both got food poisoning with painful upset stomach for four days. We suspected it was either the pork suasage rolls or the omelet that did us in. My husband refuses to go back, citing that "they poisoned us with bad food". It is a shame as I really enjoyed the simple food the first time. Be aware that there is little to no service provided as they bring you the food and disappear. You will need to ask for anything else you need, sauce, chopsticks, extra napkins, water, etc. You pay at the counter so keep that in mind when you tip. RESPONSE TO CAFE 79 BUSINESS MANAGER: There is no confusion or mixup. The items we ordered that were shared between the two of us who got sick were A5. Fresh Spring Rolls Ninh Hoa and S2. Vietnamese Pancake. I just didn't refer to them as the dish names as they appeared exactly on your menu. Without a doubt, we were suffered painful food poisoning for days after eating the dishes. During our first visit we ate the vermicelli bowls and were fine afterwards. It was the second time eating that got us terribly sick. I don't want to give a good review. I'm selfish, and I don't want everyone to find out about this place. But, this is the best Vietnamese food I've had in the US. The staff are friendly and cute. It's a family place - Mum and Auntie are out the back working hard. The premises are clean and modern. Most importantly the food is unbelievably delicious, home style and good value. My family are hooked on the pork Bánh mì and the Phở is ... the best. Served with a heap of basil, sprouts and a lime - which for some reason is rare here. It's right next to Thirsty Hop if you want to have a craft beer while you wait. So don't come here. Stay away, It's all mine. read more

This place delivers consistently good, fresh, well priced food. Their Pho is as good as any, but if you want something special, go for the Spicy Beef Noodle soup.
