I have been EAGERLY waiting and hoping for a Cafe 86 to open in the OC and it has finally arrived!!! THE MOOD: Located inside The District in Tustin, I was initially hesitant about visiting because let's be honest, the parking and getting in and out of The District is horrendous. However, park on the fountain side in the PetSmart lot and you'll be good. Plenty of parking and easier to get in and out. Once inside Cafe 86, there's lots of seats inside and outside, which makes it nice to hang out, especially on a nice day. Desserts are displayed in front and a giant menu as you walk in so you can easily look at your options. THE FOOD: My usual go to is the Upside Down Halo Halo and I highly recommend it. There's something about the mix of the signature halo halo base with the flan, vanilla ice cream, jack fruit, boba, coconut jellies, and Frosted Flakes that makes every bite spectacular. The chewy, creamy, crunchy texture all in one makes it a fun eating experience. They were definitely generous in all the items and I loved that every bite had Frosted Flakes all the way to the end. Superb! There's lots more on the menu to choose, so will be back to try more. The 'TUDE: Service was friendly, nice, and efficient! We went on a Sunday (the day after opening) and the crowds were consistent. Despite there being waves of customers here and there during our visit, the staff did a good job of keeping the line moving. OVERALL: Now that Cafe 86 is so much closer, I can get one of my favorite desserts that much easier! I will definitely be back! read more

Impressed with this place. From the get go we were greeted so well and they offered to answer any questions. They have so many desserts it was hard to choose! They answered our questions and we all chose something fun to try. Everyone loved their desserts. I had the turon poptart which is banana - yum! Based on the many 5-star reviews and their overall rating, I hesitate giving my only "OK" review; eager to sample items off their menu, over 2 visits, I'd excitedly ordered their Halo-Halo ($10.95), Ube Butter Bar ($5.50), and another Ube treat under a glass dome; however, I was disappointed; the Halo-Halo lacked the distinct flavors I was longing to taste; the dense Ube Butter Bar wasn't rich-&-"buttery" -- none that I'd selected had me desiring more (good on the caloric side but disappointing, as I love to enjoy my food). So excited that Cafe 86 is near my neighborhood! I love their ube halo halo, crinkle cookies, and today I tried the ube brownie and toron pop tart. I gotta say, I think I have new favorites. It's really hard to say actually because everything was so good, but they brownie is chef's kiss. The ube flavor is enhanced by cashew pieces and white chocolate. It's sweet, but not too sweet, and the texture is just right. There was quite a line being that it was the first day and a Saturday night at Tustin District. Parking can be tough so if you're able to come on an off time, I highly recommend it. read more

Just wandering around on a Sunday and wanted a drink so went into this place. It was cramped with just one ordering station. The tables weren't very clean and it was loud. I got an affogato because you can't get them everywhere, and I enjoy them very much. It was OK tasting but the presentation was poor as it looked like an incomplete beverage. I've been meaning to check out this place for a while, and actually heard about them when they first opened in Cerritos way long ago! They're a Filipino dessert spot, that sells drinks, cookies, and desserts. Their popular desserts here are the halo halo, and pretty much anything with ube. It was my first time here, so the girl at the front helped me decide on what I wanted. They also do $3 drinks on some items. I was super indecisive, so I ended up getting something simple, their sea salt cream iced coffee. I thought the coffee was going to be just okay with the first sip, but as I continued mixing it with the sea salt cream, the coffee got a lot better! I also really liked how you can taste a bit of the saltiness. The shop is small, but really cozy, and they have fun board games you can play with your friends. I can also see this space double as a study/work space. They're located at The District in Tustin with a huge parking lot! read more

If you've never had ube before, it tastes a little nutty and earthy with a subtle vanilla-like sweetness. Came here on a Monday evening and was so disappointed at the sad state of the display case. Lots of things were sold out, including the ube butter bar I had my heart set on. The staff mentioned they restock on Tuesdays so by Monday it's pretty slim pickings. We ended up getting two maiz con yelo bars and an ube brownie with cashews. I've been on a huge ube kick so I was really excited to try so many more goodies but was really bummed they didn't have more in stock. What they did have wasn't too impressive either. The brownie definitely tasted a bit old/stale. The maiz con yelo bars had almost no flavor which was weird. I expected a much stronger corn flavor and just a touch of sweetness. It tasted more like a cheesecake with no tang. Very strange. Hopefully next time I can come back closer to a Tuesday and give the ube treats another chance! read more

I am soo glad Cafe 86 has options of Filipino Desserts/Drinks that reminded me back home in the Philippines. My faves are Halo Halo and Mais Con Yelo UBE truffle is soo good and crinkles as well. The UBE flan cupcake is 10/10 I also ordered Milk tea and the taste is perfectly blended with the other desserts I got! I will definitely comeback and bring my families and Friends The service is soo good! Steep Thoughts: Florence's Quest for (Her) Perfect Black Milk Tea Black milk tea: 0.5/2. I got the House Milk Tea, 50% sweet. This drink is more of a brown sugar black milk tea with a salty cream foam on top. When I first got the drink, I did not like it because the tea, brown sugar syrup, and cream foam were very separate from each other and it alternated between tasting too watery and too sweet. After mixing the drink VERY WELL, it got better. Once fully mixed, the drink has nice notes of caramel and cream, but the tea flavor is not as strong as I would like and 50% is probably a little too sweet for me still. Other drinks: 0.5/1. This is definitely more of a dessert shop than a tea shop, so high-quality tea drinks are not necessarily top-priority. The focus is more on halo-halo and other Filipino desserts. To be fair, the halo-halo is great! Just not the focus of my review. Ambiance: 0.5/1. This shop is located inside The District at Tustin Legacy. Worked here briefly this afternoon and the vibes were great. Even though there was decent foot traffic, I still felt like I could focus on my work while enjoying the tea and pastries. This place is fantastic if you are a big fan of teas and ube, I really enjoyed the dragonberry drink! Excited to have this Filipino dessert place open at the district as Halo Halo is one of my favorite dessert and I love the Ube themed bakery items as well. There was a 15-20 mins line on the 1st day of opening but one you order, the items came out pretty fast. I got the upside down Halo Halo (ube milkshake with vanilla ice cream) and ube butter bar. The Halo Halo was tasty and full of ube flavor, but the toppings were not as robust as some of the other ones I've had - it was mostly jelly and boba (usually there were more beans/jack fruit etc). The ube butter bar was a bit different than I thought, it's less ube intense and had more of a cream cheese flavor. It's also less sweet than most ube dessert, but I enjoyed it. read more

Came in for some halo halo and unfortunately this location does NOT hold up to being as good as other locations like the one in Artesia or Chino Hills. Workers didn't acknowledge me or any other guests coming into the store. We ordered on the iPad and our halo halo came out quickly but when we started eating it at home we noticed there were a bunch of huge pieces of uncrushed ice, over 15 the size of large grapes....so watch out for that.
