Ordered takeaway from here. The falafel sandwich was great. It's very large, and the taziki was delicious too. It can get a little messy trying to eat but they deliver it in foil nice wrapped. Wonderful restaurant that made me feel like I was visiting Greece. We were looking for somewhere late to eat and thankfully Cafe Agora was open. Our server Vinnie was quick and helpful. Holy Moly this was good. I honestly didn't think there was another level to gyros, I've had some bad ones but all the good have pretty much been about the same. Not here. The gyro meat quality and seasoning is by far the best I've ever had, in fact I'm ruined for life. Truly delicious. This is a cute Turkish cafe in the midst of Buckhead near Atlanta. Turkish cuisine is a heritage of the Ottoman cuisine. Its a perfect blend of Balkan, Middle Eastern, Eastern Europe and Central Asian cuisine. I tried the Salmon Plate. The fish was slowly grilled by bugulama( fish with lemon and parsley) served with pilav (flavored rice) with hummus, pita bread and Greek salad. The food was fresh and seasoned well. The patio area was clean and covered, open enough to accomodate strollers, not sure of wheelchairs. The service we received is why this restaurant did not get a 5 star rating. Our server was not honest with us when we asked if our food could be shared between two people, so we ordered 2 dishes. I drove 20 minutes to get a chicken gyro that I was craving. Get home and it was a sandwich filled with iceberg lettuce, onions and badly burnt chicken. Chicken so burnt it wasn't edible. No sauce at all!! So I called and the rude girl who refused to give me her name said the manager was too busy to speak to me. So I asked her again for her name wondering why the Manager couldn't speak to me and she hung up on me. I called back and she hung up on me again. Cafe Agora specializes in Turkish, Greek, and other Mediterranean cuisine. They have a picture menu posted above the kitchen of various Mediterranean foods such as gyros and kebabs as well as these huge glass cases where they show off some of their appetizers, spreads, pies, and desserts. These help out a lot when you're trying to decide what to order. As soon as we sat down at our table, the owner Al, brought us a small sampler of hummus, ezme (tomato-based spread), and tabouli (green herb-based spread). He then took a small disposable fork, mixed the three spreads together, and boldly fed us samples while we waited. Each of the spreads were freshly made and the ezme and tabouli were tangy. While it was a nice gesture of the owner to have us sample these, he ended up charging us for it, when we never ordered it to begin with. Not cool. I tried out two chicken dishes: the chicken shish kebab and the chicken gyro. The chicken shish kebab was served off-the-stick, in between pieces of pita bread and a bed of white rice. The pieces of chicken were chargrilled, so the meat was a little crispy on the outside. The entree is also served with a small side salad with mint dressing and a small cup of tzatziki sauce. The meat was dry, so the sauce really helped. The pieces of chicken in the gyro were much better and tasted great with the shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro, and tzatziki sauce. While it's a lot of food, the kebabs are a little overpriced as each plate will set you back about $15 which seems like a lot for a dive such as this. Gyros are about half the cost. We also tried a slice of their strawberry cake, which we'd seen earlier sitting behind the glass. We asked for just a small piece, but Al gave us a huge chunk. It was as delicious as we'd hoped. The strawberries were sweet and ripe and icing was rich. As mentioned previously, the restaurant itself is small and divey. The space can get cramped when the restaurant is busy. Cafe Agora is located next door to Buckhead Bottle Bar on East Paces Ferry Rd. We came on a weeknight and were told by the valet guys at BBB that we could park in the HiFi Buys parking lot across the street for free, even though that lot has one of those metal boxes that you insert cash into (it turned out to be fine). read more

This location of Cafe Agora is located on East Paces to the left of the Buckhead location of Meehan's Public House and across the street from a bunch of Buckhead galleries. Cafe Agora is a Turkish style Mediterranean restaurant - the influences are Greek, Arabic and Persian, so it's a bit of a mixed-bag (not in a bad way) of complimentary cuisines. The restaurant was just starting to get busy (this was a Monday night) - the patio was mostly full and the interior about half. I think this is a good location for a casual business meeting or to kick back with a glass of wine to observe the antics of Buckhead locals or obnoxious visitors (like me!). The restaurant is fairly new at this location and still well kept and clean. We sat on the patio and were immediately greeted. The menu is fairly extensive with many of the usual options like hummus, dolma, babaganoush, tabouli and the like, along with your typical gyro-like meat concoctions. There are also some interesting bits you don't typically see, like the haydari, plyaz and soups like Mercimek (lentils) or Sehriyeli Tavuk (chicken noodle) Corbasi. While viewing the menu the owner came by and offered up a sampler of apps to try - I believe it was a small Maza platter. Besides some hummus and tabouli, the other very strongly flavored spreads were quite very good. The flavors were subtlety different from our average Mediterranean and I found that to be so in the entree as well. I ordered the Mix Gyro plate with included both chicken and beef/lamb, over rice with a Greek salad - the marinated pita had a bit of red tint to it (tomato I think?) that wasn't immediately identifiable but added just a hint of acid that did a good job cutting through the meats. Both my dining companions ordered the Adana Kebab - grilled minced lamb on skewer with marinated pita and Greek salad. I thought the food very good and the service exceptional. Parking, on the other hand, was a bit of a PITA (pain in the ass - see what I did there?). Agora has valet as do most restaurants in Buckhead but frankly it was easier to just walk out with the valet and get in the car to drive off - I find the whole process in general to be cumbersome. You need to eat here. Just do it. We walked in at 6:30 on a Friday night and was seated immediately. On their cute little outdoor deck (Points for that.) Then I ordered the roasted lamb. It's literally falling off the bone and served in this delicious red sauce with a roasted pepper and tomato, roasted potatoes, and a Greek salad. It was so much food and so delicious. (Major points for that.) The baklava him the dessert menu caught my eye and when it came, it was the BEST BAKLAVA I've ever had. Not chewy at all. The waiter said it was a Turkish recipe (points for that). We found parking easily but when we left (around 8:30) I noticed the parking lot was a little more full but they offered complimentary valet (more points). All in all, you can't go wrong eating here. We ordered dinner via Uber eats. Everything came warm and packaged well. We ordered falafel, fries, lentil soup, the appetizer platter, and the chicken schwarma. The lentil soup had no texture and while the flavor was okay it was basically a broth instead of a soup. The falafel desperately needed salt and I had to slather hummus on it to be able to eat it. The pita was gummy. The appetizer platter was probably the best but the flavors didn't pop and were all extremely homogenous. The shwarma was just lettuce and chicken and nothing else. Location and exterior/interior is 10x better after it relocated and love that it has its own parking lot, though it is limited. Once you walk in, order from the picture menu above the cashier stand and they will provide you a # and deliver your order to your table. One of the drawbacks, however is that they don't list any pricing anywhere... so just be aware that entrees are a bit more $ than just a sandwich/wrap. My coworker learned the hard way... My usual order is the chicken gyro with the hummus platter to share. Hummus is no comparison to the grocery bought hummuses, a must try!
