    Meatball pasta
    Poupee C.

Cozy little restaurant with big flavors. There were four of us this evening. We started with a bottle of Chianti, 2019 Gabbiano. It was the perfect amount without over indulging. Smooth and was an excellent pairing, it goes without saying. Three appetizers were shared amongst us: The mushroom al limone - sauteed with garlic, lemon, and butter. Very saucy and best to scarpetta - The art of using bread to soak up the last drop of sauce on your plate. And very healthy for your immunity, gut and brain health! The Melanzana - roasted eggplant, shallots, and fresh mozzarella. Calamari - sauteed with garlic. Not fried. I love this. Much healthier. A plate of angel hair pasta would have married well with all three apps! For our meal, I ordered the meatball pasta. Paying homage to my dad who loves this dish wherever Italian is served. It was delicious. Loaded with two giant meatballs and bolognese, this is your definition of comfort food. Husband had the Chicken Florentine - lemon, capers, lemon, spinach. With green beans and pasta. Very balanced. My sister and BIL ordered the veal piccata and mushroom pasta with sausage. They look good too! Can't forget dessert. The tiramisu and the Pistacchio cake. Wow. I could have easily eaten both, myself but we shared lol. I am so ready to come again and try all the rest of the menu. Service was super friendly and fairly quick. Glad to have dined and support local business. Buon appetito!

In 50 years when I'm in the senior living home, someone will ask me what my favorite restaurant is. I won't remember much, but I WILL remember this one hole in the wall Italian spot called Cafe Gazelle. Best Italian food I've ever had. I went there all the time. Frank was always so wonderful. Glad it's still there. I'm a bit of an Italian food snob. I cook lots of it at home, and I always try to be as authentic as possible. No heavy cream in my carbonara. Simple, tasty ingredients. Always San Marzano. I'm picky about pasta quality and firmness. Cafe Gazelle seems like the kind of place I dream of one day opening. When Frank brought the soup of the day out, I was pleasantly surprised to see how hearty and flavorful it was. The bread was delicious, and the soup tasted heavenly. As I was waiting for my food, I looked into the kitchen. Frank was inspecting the plates and garnishing them with parsley. Then, he brought the food out. I cried tears of joy inside. It looked like it was made with love and care. I took a bite. I was right. The sauce was not watery. It clung onto my penne, yet its flavor was delightfully refreshing. Eggplant was beautifully lightly charred. Hearty mushrooms to accompany it. Penne was al dente. Every piece. Same with the other pasta we got. The chicken was tender and seasoned just right. Everything looked like it was made at home; with love, care, and simple and fresh ingredients. When we were done, Frank brought out a platter of desserts to display. When we were finished, out came the check. Handwritten. No POS system. Like how I like my watches analog, I like my checks and bills handwritten. What a place. The staff here are all wonderful. Intimate service accompanying an intimate and classy setting. No frills. Hearty, classy, and good-for-the-soul food. 20/10 recommend.

This is a tiny Italian restaurant with an intimate feel to it. It's a bit dated but that adds to the charm. It seemed there were only 3 people working: the chef, the waiter and the food runner, but with less than 10 tables that's all you need. I loved that the meal was served with hot, fresh bread and a simple salad. You don't often see that these days. You'll find all of the classics on the menu and the portions were quite large. We started out with the sautéed calamari and with all that butter and garlic it was just wonderful. We even dipped our bread into it so that none of that sauce would go to waste. I had the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The meatballs were on the small side but it also comes in a meat sauce with nice flavor that's well prepared. It was a nice touch that they bring the desserts out on a tray for you to select from. And of course once you see them you can't pass them up! We had a lemon cake that we both enjoyed as a way to cap off the meal.

My first visit to Cafe Gazelle after visiting Long Beach many times. It is my family friend's favorite in the Belmont Shore. It is certainly a very small, cozy, intimate spot so always best to make a reservation. There are only about 4-6 tables at a time. The owners and staff are so kind and delightful. The wine, salad, bread, and pasta were delicious. Their menu is expansive and you cannot go wrong with any plate. Try it for yourself, enjoy.

Small, intimate, hole in the wall. Well-made pasta. Perfect portion sizes. Tried a few pasta dishes here and everyone is great. Pasta is well cooked and the ingredients seem fresh.

What a gem ! Small Italian restaurant , located in the busy Belmont shore area parking is obviously busy , so expect to walk here from your spot ... Came on a not so busy night and got sat down right away , loved the atmosphere, very cozy , very close , table was set up nicely , everything looked clean , kitchen was firing up dishes ! When with the gnocchi for a starter .. wow loved it been thinking of it since .. and then I went with a pasta dish and got shrimp in it ... first of all how they slice the shrimp is so amazing ... definitely means they properly and devein it !! Love that .. everything tasted fresh , amazing flavors . Stafff was great ... didn't try any desserts ... I did see a waiter with a tray asking the couple next to me if they wanted desserts when I was leaving and I was a bit bummed because if they would have flashed me that tray I would have definitely been convinced lol ... A must try Italian restaurant!

Parking is rough because Belmont Shore is always busy. You'll probably have to arrive early or wait for a table because there are only 7 inside. The food is well worth waiting for though. I went with a couple of friends and was able to try a few different dishes. Bruschetta, chicken Parmesan, michaellangelo, gnocchi with bolognese and a few desserts. Every single dish was a hit. I would order all of them again.

The food was delicious! It's a very small place so just be cautious of that and be prepared, the staff is quick and friendly. Can't wait to go back and try a new dish

Genuinely the best place we happened to stumble across. The ambience is cozy and familiar and the staff treats everyone so kindly. The food was genuinely the best thing I ever had. The appetizer, the bread, EVEN THE BUTTER, and especially the main dish. I plan on coming back again. You should definitely stop by and visit. COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF, THE OWNER, THE WAITER EVERYONE.

The food at Cafe Gazelle is out of this world--some of the best Italian food I've had in southern california. Pasta is cooked perfectly and everything we had from the eggplant appetizer to cheesecake dessert had complex, delicious flavors. A great spot for a romantic but laid back date. Space is quite small so you'll be rubbing elbows with people getting in and out occasionally, but its definitely charming and service is top knotch.

All I can do is to continue RAVING about how much I love this little gem of a restaurant!!! The food is incredible, the service is impeccable, and the wine is affordable, haha! It's such a small and cozy restaurant that does not take reservations. Turn around is pretty quick! The street parking in that area can be horrid, but there's also a paid lot directly across the restaurant, thru the alley. Dealing with parking there is so worth it! It's amazing how you never feel like servers are staring at you, but the SECOND you're done eating, they clear a plate. The SECOND you finish your drink, they come and offer more. Just a fantastic dining experience, and it feels like I'm back in Europe every time. If you need to use the bathroom, just be aware that you have to walk thru their kitchen to use it, and it's a supply closet. But oh well, that's how the besttt old-school restaurant work!

The food is absolutely delicious, and the service has never been short of amazing. When you walk in, you're greeted by a gorgeous mosaic of Mediterranean decor. The interior is what I would imagine a restaurant in Italy would look like - exposed brick, lots of fun framed pictures and posters, fresh flowers and plants, and even a Vespa. It's warmly lit and such a great vibe for dinner. I always order the paccheri crema di scampi, which is their large rigatoni in a cream sauce with lobster and shrimp. This is my absolute favorite pasta dish. I clean the plate of all sauce remnants - no joke. It's creamy and savory and wonderfully balanced with the acidity of the tomato. The seafood is never overcooked or rubbery, and the rigatoni is a perfect al dente. They also make one of the best tiramisus I've tried. I love tiramisu, and the ratio of mascarpone to ladyfinger here is perfect! Not to mention, their ladyfingers aren't dry or overly soggy with espresso. Soo delicious. The service is lovely. The servers are attentive and welcoming, and the food comes out in a timely manner. They also give great wine recommendations to pair with your food. I would recommend making a reservation to ensure that you've secured a table, especially for celebrations or holidays. Without a reservation, the wait can be some time during peak hours. Visually, the burger was impressive and looked exactly like something you'd want to dig into. However, the salt level was overwhelming to the point where I genuinely could not finish it. What made matters worse was that our server was not attentive with refilling our waters, and when you're working through an extremely salty dish, hydration isn't optional. I left the meal feeling dehydrated and honestly a little frustrated. The bright spot of the visit was the Brussels sprouts, which were genuinely well done and showed some real kitchen care. If I were to return, I'd probably stick to the vegetable sides. For a restaurant with a 4 PM lull and minimal table traffic, there's no excuse for that level of inattentiveness. A simple water refill and a quick check in would have saved the experience. As it stands, the combination of an over salted entrée and absent service made for a tough sell on the value. If you're in the area craving a burger, you might want to save your money and head down the street to Louis Burger instead. Ellie's may shine in other areas; I've heard good things about the pasta, but this particular visit missed the mark.

He was so knowledgeable about the menu, the building, making small talk and etc. when I asked what drink he recommended he said they have a full bar, but he did say the espresso martini. Also, it came with pasta and carrots. Most places just sell the steak by itself and you have to pay for sides -they brought out a complimentary bread basket -we also ordered a side of broccoli -we did not order dessert, but they did bring out a complimentary birthday dessert The service was great The building is beautiful The atmosphere was great The food was amazing Overall, I would come back, but I would reserve it for special occasions. Excellent selection of wines! They are also offering Bubbles and Shells (Sparking Wine and Oysters) on Friday and Saturday nights! Our food today, Michael's Burger with handout fries, N'Daju Toast, and The Benedict. Cocktails today, Ciacco D'oro and a Mimosa. Cappuccino and coffees were great. Cocktails at Michael's are excellent. Definitely one of the best places in Long Beach for a cocktail! Creative and consistent. The burger is the best one in town if you are craving that juicy type of burger, which I was. Done perfectly. I order it rare, they know how to serve it rare! Now served with handout fries instead of chips, still amazing! We finished our meal with a wonderful Gelato, on the house! Mint chip and just amazing! Looking forward to more Brunches and of course happy Hour!

I chose this restaurant for my friend's birthday dinner. It was an excellent Italian restaurant…read moreperfect for celebrations without being overpriced. Right from entering the hotel lobby we were met with a beautiful restaurant that made me feel confident I had chosen the right place. The lighting, the table settings, the decor, all culminated in a beautiful restaurant for a wonderful evening. We had the special spinach ravioli which was divine, and the carbonara (was great but slightly salty). The cocktails were absolutely delicious, i highly recommend the old fashioned and the nettuno spritz! The calamari was fantastic, and the bone marrow was okay and awkward to eat. Our waitress was amazing and provided top-notch service that made my friend feel extra special, especially with a complimentary dessert for her birthday! We didn't expect that and felt extra cared for. Will definitely be back for more special nights or just on occasions where I'm craving a high quality meal and experience.

Disappointed that the upper restaurant was closed on a Monday which led me to nettuno…read more Service was impeccable. Wine recommendation was outstanding. The food was fine. Salmon w broccolini was delicious and was devoured. The calamari appetizer was disappointing as it was flavorless without the spicy tomato sauce and the zucchini were soggy and limp. From a 4 star meal down to 3.5. Servers, bussers, etc. were all prompt but didn't make me feel rushed. Hostess was friendly. Hospitality piece of the experience was flawless. Ambiance is cozy, upscale and classy. Dimly lit with plenty of space between tables for privacy. Saw a couple celebrating their anniversary here along with business travelers dining during their stay. Would dinner again but the upper restaurant will remain my first choice.

I would give the food 4 stars but bumped it up to 5 because of the customer service. I'm not…read morecertain if he is the owner or the manager, but someone walked around asking each table how they're doing, and stopped and welcomed me for my first time eating there. That was very much appreciated. This is a fun casual spot in 2nd and PCH shopping center, so you get 90 minutes of parking free here. You order at the counter, and they bring you the food pretty quickly after. You can eat inside or outside, both are lovely options. You basically pick your pasta type and sauce, so it's kind of a create-your-own-dish. They also have weekly specials and a few other specialty dishes on the menu. I will say, the lasagna looks to be the dish to get. The person next to me ordered it and the dish was massive. Looked delicious! I got the pappardelle bolognese. Pappardelle is my favorite type of noodle, and they make a great pappardelle here! Perfectly toothy. The noodles themselves were 9/10. The bolognese didn't have the deepest flavor I've ever tried, but it was solid. I loved the beautiful plate that my pasta was served in. I would definitely come back here. It's great to "make your own dish". It's a fun spot right along the water as well.

I've eaten here a few times and the food is always exceptional. I have to call out that we had the focaccia, and I am a massive bread snob, and it was PHENOMENAL. Not greasy at all, gorgeous crust, fluffy interior, drizzled with a nice quality olive oil and served with a marinara I wanted to bathe in. Service is exceptional as always, the gals working were truly so sweet. We'll be back soon, this is truly such a gem.
