I came here for this first time recently and I loved the colorful menu. I got the pizza called "I am giving ". I got it Hawaiian style with house made marinara sauce, pineapple, almond burrata, chasew mozzarella, coconut bacon. I loved the crust and the different textures you tasted. We also tried the Vegan Calamari which tasted fantastic, very similar to the real deal. Lastly was the Iced hot cocoa with marshmallows,which was creamy and had a unique aftertaste. As well as the fired mushroom chicken sandwich, it was so crispy and flavorful, the fires it came with were also crisped to perfection. His attention to detail and assurance that your food is free of any allergies/dietary preferences you have is unparalleled to any experience I've had at ANY restaurant. I enjoyed the ambiance of this place. When you go inside, every dish has a self-affirmation name. When you order the dish, you say the affirmation to the waiter and honestly, say it to yourself! It's all about self-love there. I love that concept but I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the food. I'm going back into a vegan lifestyle this month but when I tried this, I wasn't that much of a fan. However, I do think that they have really good cold-pressed juices! We tried a beet juice and it was really yummy. I would come back here for the juice and affirmations. This is a vegan restaurant. This is my first time here. You order using the QR code and pay once you are done ordering so the server never has to take your order or handle your bill. This is such a convenient system. We order the "I am glorious " and I am original ". Both are very good but the " I am originally was a little better" in my opinion. This quickly became our favorite place! The food is so delicious, the service is top notch, and the ambiance is very comforting and welcoming. I love the outdoor patio and the online ordering system. The food and drinks come super quick! The name of the foods instantly put you in a good mood since they are a positive affirmation. My favorite was the I Am Magical on a wrap. They're an all vegan & vegetarian cafe, and while I'm not either, I enjoyed the dish I ordered and I think they have a decent variety of food options. My boyfriend had the "Yo Soy Mucho" which was basically just a Mexican bowl, while I had the "I Am Loving". The first was pretty standard, and the latter I thought was really flavorful. Loved every part of the dish and it was a good portion. For drinks we had the "I Am Light" latte and the "I Am Grace" smoothie. The coffee was mediocre but the smoothie was good if you like coconut. In terms of pricing, I'd say it's pretty standard for the area if not more affordable, considering vegan options are usually marked up by a lot! Outside of the food, I really enjoyed the aesthetics of the place. It's bright, clean, and modern. They offer free WiFi if you ever want to sit here and work (no plug sockets), and everyone is really nice. As a big added bonus, they validate parking for the parking garage behind the restaurant (up to 90 mins), and there's also free street parking! Hard to come by in these cities so I really appreciated this. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try whether you're vegan/vegetarian or not. read more

I had a pretty disappointing experience here--most of all regarding the food. The loaded nacho fries should be fried crispy so they hold up against all the toppings. The way a chip would in traditional nachos. The burrata in marinara--not much "burrata" and all I could taste was the marinara, which was uninspired. The shishito peppers were the most disappointing of all. Barely any flavor--I was shocked. And this is just me, but I hate the way the dishes are named. Seems clever but when you're reading the bill, you have no idea what you ordered and whether you were charged correctly (we weren't, but our server fixed it when we pointed it out; having to compare the check against the menu was just kind of annoying). I have heard people rave about Cafe Gratitude for years so when my husband and I realized this location was close by during our recent trip to California, I knew we had to give it a try. This location has a lovely, dog-friendly patio that is separated from the sidewalk but still gives you a view of the passersby. It was a great spot to watch the sun go down. Initially, service was a little strange. They only brought us a drink menu to start and it was clearly intentional when the host let us know our server would bring us our food menus after. When we received our food menus, they asked if they could get us anything besides the drinks right away... how are we supposed to know what we'd want when you just handed us the menus? Other than that though, service was fast and friendly. It feels a little strange ordering their dishes named after affirmations, but I kind of like how much they lean into the "theme". I ordered the "I am Fiery" which is a spicy buffalo cauliflower wrap and my husband had the "Yo Soy Fuerte" which is Gratitude's take on a crunchwrap. Both meals were incredible. I'm so sad I have no idea when I'll be able to taste it again. Highly recommend for and vegans, vegetarians, or those willing to give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I came here for a friend's birthday dinner and had a nice time. The area is bustling and has a nice hipster vibe. Parking in the area is scarce since there are so many homes and businesses around, I lucked out though and found a nice park adjacent to the restaurant. Jordan our server was very nice and knowledgeable once we were seated. He even gave us good recommendations. I ordered I am fascinating (the crispy Asian spring rolls) to start and the chili for my entrée. I also ordered a glass of red wine. To my surprise the wine came in a can. In all my years of drinking wine, I've never seen canned wine. I guess I need to keep on living. The spring rolls came with lettuce, mint, cilantro, some picked veggies on the side and a dipping sauce. My first thought was "Is this Ssam?" (Lettuce wraps?) I wasn't sure so I ate it like it was. There was something about the flavor and the texture, I was just not feeling it. The sauce was good with it though. The chili was the highlight of my meal. I AM Disappointed! I've been vegan 7 years and frequent Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre quite a bit. Today, when I arrived at Cafe Gratitude at about 9:30 am, I was informed that dine in service doesn't start until 10:00 but I could order take out. My mother and I decided to order take out. By the time we got our food it was 9:50. I kindly asked the waiter if we could eat outside on the patio and they begrudgingly agreed. A few minutes later my mother decided she wanted a coffee and went back inside to order one, only to be refused by the bartender/waiter, who said it was take out only. His tone was rude and condescending. Once my mother came back out, we packed our food and left to get coffee elsewhere. Needless to say we won't be going back. read more

I find us very blessed to live in Southern California, where there are more socially conscious restaurants, that understand the Global impact the meat & dairy industries has on the World & it's environment. It's quintessentially California just in this strip of Venice. Bring your camera & your appetite. The concept of the restaurant is positive affirmations. You order by saying "I AM..." + the name of the dish. Example: "I am amazing". My husband had "I am mucho", which he said was fantastic & filling. We also ordered the buffalo cauliflower & a Margherita pizza. We received the buffalo cauliflower first. It was accompanied by a chipotle like sauce & celery sticks. The flavor was good, I just wish it was crispier & had more pieces. The Margherita pizza was AMAZING! My husband says to me, this pizza has the flavors of a sausage pizza, but there is no sausage. What he was referring to was the fresh basil flavor & a slight licorice flavor that came through once it cooled enough for us to bite into. It was a hearty & filling pizza because it was a beautiful crust made with ancient grains. It was AWESOME!!! I took the advise of some reviewers who mentioned some of the dishes weren't filling enough & recommended ordering dishes that had more carbs or bread. That being said, I ordered the "I am amazing", which was a eggplant parmigiana sandwich, but got it with pesto, as suggested by our waitress. This dish was accompanied with a mixed greens salad, which worked harmoniously with the sandwich. I got full half way through my sandwich! So, I decided to pack away the rest & leave too for a dessert. My husband & I shared the mocha cheesecake. It was the dessert special & it was OUTSTANDING! We could easily have had our own slices each. The whole experience was great! We were seated right away. Our waitress was attentive, but not too much. We got our food quickly. It was priced fairly. The location was beautiful. Parking is very limited, but still possible. We parked on the street. The restaurant was clean & beautiful. Open concept. Lots of indoor & outdoor seating. Food was good but I've never had worst service. Sat down and 15 minutes passed and no one came - I had to get my own water. Saw someone get seated after us who then got served immediately. Probably 30 minutes passed before a server actually got to us to even say anything to us without us flagging down. Granted it was a Sunday but in my opinion, it doesn't matter how busy you are. You always have a few minutes to quickly give a new table water at the VERY least. Been in Venice for 6 years and will say hands down this was the worst service I've ever experienced. However the portions at cafe Gratitude is always on the smaller scale with the price starting at round 16+ an entree , it's a bit tricky. I love Cafe Gratitude and always have. The concept is clever and fun and accessible, and the food is always high quality and consistently delicious and adventurous. There have always been a number of staples that I can go to for a reliably excellent vegan meal. My personal favorites are the kelp noodle salad with hemp pesto and the chopped kale salad. I also love the key lime pie for dessert. Juices are incredibly fresh and also tasty. The best part for me is that I am now really pushing myself to reduce the amount of meat in my diet, and Gratitude is a tremendous aid in that difficult task.
