Great food and great price! Its a brightly colored space and the food reflects that! I thought the shrimp were awesome and the chivito was delish! Service was slower but it was a sunday at an odd time so I won't hold it against the spot. Id go back!

After a day shopping on Magnificent Mile north of the river in Chicago, we stopped at nearby Cafecito on Chestnut. It was early Sunday afternoon, and we were too large a group to arrive without calling ahead. You walk up a lovely old half-flight of stairs under an ornate ceiling. After a short wait, half of our party went elsewhere, and the remaining four of us were quickly seated. The front area is mainly a café, with maybe 10 seats at tables for two. Farther back is a hallway and a larger room with seating in booths and at high-tops for maybe 40, and maybe 6 more at a small bar. The staff is quick and friendly. The food is delicious and fresh and hot! And the music is loud and festive :-) We had the thin-cut savory palomillo steak, a generous serving, pounded to tenderness, served with classic wet black-beans and white rice, sweet soft platanos maduros plantain pieces, and some greens and tomato. We had a lovely colorful medium-sized Mojo Shrimp in tart garlic citrus mojo sauce, with sateed red onion crescents, tomato chunks, and parsley. And we had the huge slow-cooked tender shredded-beef Ropa Vieja pressed sandwich, sauced lightly with slightly-tangy creole sauce, served with platanos maduros and black beans. All of their food delightfully authentic. We liked it so much, a few days later we ate at their South Loop location, too!

Amazing lunch or dinner spot! I have consistently had some of the best food in the area here. Great for dine in or takeout, Cafecito has a large menu and something for everyone. I recommend the tostones, the cubanito or the guava q, and a cortadito. They have a large area and a bar for dine in. It usually doesn't take long to be seated and the service is always very friendly. It can get busy, so don't plan on a super quick lunch if you're dining in, but it will be worth your time!

Great spot for some straightforward Cuban food right downtown. I got the GuavaQ Chicken plate which comes with black beans, rice, and sweet plantains. I thought everything was well balanced and very good. Honestly, the black beans and maduros were the highlights for me but everything was good. My mom also enjoyed her meal, she got the proveletta sandwich and added turkey. Service was good and food came quickly though I will say there were only 3 other tables when we went which was at an off time in the afternoon. They have a walk up counter if you'd like to take your meal to go. They have a mix of high top tables and booths. The seating area is dark and cozy. It looks like they have a full bar as well though we didn't check that out. Would come back again!

I can't stop thinking about my experiences at Cafecito. This was my second time and I ordered ToGo before exploring Chicago. I was obsessed with the Lucila's Guava Alfajor! The flavor combination was so good and the inside was so creamy and delicious! I also ordered an Iced Vanilla Chai with Oatmilk and had no regrets. So tasty! I also grabbed a pasta salad from the front, but I wasn't the biggest fan. It had a pretty strong fresh tomato taste. I think my taste buds were expecting an Italian dressing type salad, and I personally don't like raw tomatoes. That's not to say that it wasn't good. I did like it, but the flavors weren't for me. I can't wait to come back and visit again!

Nice late lunch outside at the Chestnut location. Yucca fries, pressed sandwich and a tequila cocktail. Perfect note on a warm, sunny day. Being post peak, service was super fast.

Really great lunch! I had the proveletta and it was incredible. Next time I'd ask for a side of chimichurri as the sandwich felt a bit dry but this is me nitpicking. The pollo chipotle was quite plain according to my lunch mate. Could use a bit more flavor but it was super filling. The restaurant has a counter to place to go orders and get coffee and desserts. Some outdoor seating is available too and plenty of inside seating that could be good for big groups. The service was pretty good and quick. I would love to go again to try other items including the vegan options. Also still need to try their coffee !

We picked up takeout from Cafecito last night. Mason's cream of chicken soup with everybody's favorite although none of us liked the bacon in it. My husband and I split two of the different Panini sandwiches. The barbecue chicken with guava was the standout star since they have breakfast lunch and serve dinner late-ish we will definitely be back!

Busiest place we had been to in a while but we stayed and got to drink and eat. It can get kind of expensive so we wouldn't come back often. Cafecito has a few locations including this one across from the John Hancock Center. Has a to go counter if not wanting to wait to eat inside. They have cocktails though so we wanted that with the food so that's the reason for staying. A ton of people always seem to be here. It's expected with it being in a touristy area so if needing a table get reservations. They also have a counter where food can be ordered to go if not wanting to stay and get a table. Bad thing is the cocktails can only be ordered if eating here. We had to eat here because of this. It's about $13 for a cocktail. The one I got was the El Vecino. Hot stuff. This is made with cayenne, ginger beer, jalapeño, lime juice, and vodka. It's about $15 for an entree. There's a section of things for vegans. I got the La Playa Sandwich. This has Beyond sausage, plant based versions of cheese and chipotle mayonnaise, chimichurri, mojo, roasted red peppers, and spinach among the toppings. She had what they call the Sabor Impossible Sandwich, which is similar kind of. This has Beyond meat with plant based versions of cheese and chipotle mayonnaise, along with onions, pickles, spinach, and tomatoes. For sure it's a popular place judging by how it's always busy. It's located on Chestnut across from the John Hancock Center. There's lots of things for vegans and vegetarians.

Came in for lunch and it was fairly empty on a Monday. It's a small cafe, in the same building as some apartments with lots of booth seating. We were seated right away and staff was nice. The Ropa vieja sandwich had good flavor, but wish they added more plantains - mine only had 1. They serve breakfast, lunch, and drinks available and a few other locations throughout the city.

I was hesitant to try Cuban food in Chicago because I have family in Tampa and there is such a large Cuban population there so thought I would be disappointed. But this place is great! Brought my brother (who lives in Tampa) here and he agreed the food here is as good as in FL. I love the bbq pork sandwich. The plantains are also super delicious. And the cafe de leche is amazing. read more

2 months ago my Manager and I went to Cafecito and had a wonderful time. We both ordered 2 Pollo Milanesa salads, which were awesome. The salads were huge with breaded chicken, we were unable to finish them. Forward to 2 months later...celebrating a birthday in our office we decided to order from Cafecito. There were 5 salads ordered plus a platter. 1 salad was correct, 1 salad was completely missing and the other 3 salads were supposed to be the Pollo Milanesa. Neither of the 3 salads had salad dressing and they looked like an after thought. Nothing compared to the wonderful experience we had at the restaurant. We had to purchase salad dressing from the local store. When we called to complain we were only refunded for the salad missing and were not even given an apology. Word advise...all customers should receive the same service rather its in person, a pick-up or a delivery, because this service was a big let down and because the review won't go in without given stars, I am giving it 1 star. read more

The worst experience of my life! The communication between the employees is non-existent. My family and I went there for lunch and since we had a large group we asked one of the server if I could get a table ready for us and he did. He was even kind enough to call on us his personal phone. However, when the tables were ready and he was walking our large group to the table another guy came out of nowhere screaming at us where we were going. I tried to explain that we sort of had a reservation and the other employee had call us that the table was ready. But he continue to yell that Cafecito doesn't do reservations and we needed to get all the people from our group that where already seated back to the front door. This guy didn't even bother to ask his coworker any information and he started to scream at his coworker as well. But the best part was when he asked to leave the restaurant if I didn't like the service. He forgets that people like us that go in there to consume the food is what allows him to keep his job. I will never go to this place again!! read more

The coffee here is strong! Just how I like it. Warning! If you try the coffee past 5pm or at night you won't be able to go to sleep. Sandwich's are tasty and the ambiance of the place is comforting. Great place to go to for lunch. read more

Cafecito is probably the best value in the neighborhood and one of my favorite lunch spots. The Cubano is excellent. It's big enough that I often have leftovers - especially when I order the Caldo Gallego on the side - and grilled perfectly crispy. The space is huge. Though it's regularly packed, I'm always able to get a table or a seat at the bar. Service is good and the prices are great. It's a place that makes it easy to become a regular. read more

2 incredibly well made sandwiches and two very tasty not too sweet mojitos for 35 bucks in Streeterville means this is a must stop every time even if you just finished a meal somewhere else. 1. Proper bread 2. Proper bread to meat to filling ratio (you know what I mean) 3. Fantastic roasted pork, great steak. All the meats are marinated and full of flavor without extra sauces. 4. Fresh greens 5. Quick and delicious. Minus 1 very big point for using yucky anemic not ripe very rough tomatoes, but after those were picked off you have a fantastic product in a great location with an unbeatable value. Cafecito does not disappoint! Their sandwiches live up to the hype. My personal favorite is the Jardin -- it's so difficult to find a delicious veggie sandwich, but this does the trick! Pro tip, when it is warm outside, they have a lovely patio on a quiet street to enjoy :) read more

I am a big fan of this place I recently discovered a couple of weeks ago. First of all, the coffee at Cafecito is excellent ! Smooth yet just strong enough . The menu is quite impressive as well with a variety of sandwiches, salads and soups. Cafecito also has platillos and other vegan specialties too numerous to mention along with many breakfast options. I can specifically comment on the sandwiches I ate which were the Cubano, the Chivito and the Palomilla. All were great and very tasty and filling. I went to the Chestnut location which has a cozy area to sit outside. Friendly staff and everything is reasonably priced. I will definitely be back. read more

Really good coffee, we came back for Cafe con Leche several times. The food is very good, very authentic. I read about the Chivito sandwich in another review and it was every bit as good as described. I would like to see a better fried potato offering, the tator tots were straight out of a school lunch line, I'm sure they can be elevated. Very good place overall. read more

Chose to meet up with friend for quick lunch after appointment at Northwestern here at this cafe. The booth upholstery was no maimed I was afraid it would tear up my pants but didn't want to make it a big deal. Staff was young and very friendly. Had the Cubano sandwich which was recommended. It was fine. Noticed all the booths and tables were high tops and booths were up a bit. Not a place for seniors. read more

Cafecito is not located in a very convenient place for anyone that doesn't live around the downtown area. Luckily for me, my wife works by there and loves me enough to bring some back. I always get the Steak Chimichurri, Palomilla, and Chivito. The Steak Chimichurri is a hit or miss and can be a bit salty. The Palomilla and Chivito are both really good and some of my favorite sandwiches from here. Hard to pick a winner, but definitely both worth a shot. Also a really big fan of the Cafe con Leche. read more

It's my favorite Cuban spot in town but PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU TO FIX THE SERVICE. I've gone here multiple times over the years and they have the worst service every time. I don't need a waiter to be my best friend or anything like that, but you have to try so hard to flag them down to get seated, order, ask for check, anything. They won't check on you at all and it's not even busy. I had to ask 4 different times for a box. I want this place to stick around bc I love the food so please improve the waiting!! read more

Always looking for an authentic Cuban coffee so I was really excited to see they had a cortadito on the menu. I've only had hot cortaditos before but I was impressed by their iced one! We ordered the Heuvos Completo which was really tasty and they had some unique pastries as well. Definitely recommend this place for brunch! read more

The best Cuban food ever! So authentic yet with with a modern spin. I've never tried anything here that I haven't loved! The croquettes are my go-to and cheesy perfection. I also recently tried the nachos which use plantain chips and are incredible! They give your traditional nachos a very unique flavor which is so tasty. As for sandwiches, you can't go wrong with anything. The Cuban sandwich is the BEST Cuban sandwich I've ever had. So good and the bread is amazing. They have their own sandwich called the chivito which is crazy good and one of a kind! It's three different meats with a fried egg and mayo- SO OBSESSED! I also really love their shrimp- whether the ceviche or a shrimp platter it's always so fresh and flavorful. Honestly everything at this place is incredible and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Their drinks are also amazing and they have one of the best mojitos I've ever had (and I'm pretty picky about a good mojito)- they are so generous with the mint and it's such a tasty and refreshing drink. Also the staff is great and very attentive and timely which makes it a 10/10 dining experience! The owner is also always there either checking on things or helping out or even bussing tables so you know this place is good to its core! read more

Heard about this place for a long time but had never been. Little hole in the wall around the corner from some of the swanky Streeterville apartments. Had the shrimp ceviche salad to go and the order was ready ahead of time. The portion was large and the price unbeatable. A generous amount of shrimp and an excellent combination. A delicious yet cost-effective tilapia criolla sandwich chock-full of hearty condiments? Sign me up. Despite the long wait (partially our fault for going in during a weekday lunch hour), it was SO worth the wait. The cilantro lime mayo and unique flavors of salsa criolla made the meal one to remember. read more

The tables are jammed together, the service is SLOW and the food is expensive and really not all that special. Save time and money and go somewhere else.

I have since found out that the locations have their own unique decor, from what I was told. I heard that they bake their own pastries and roasted their own coffee beans. So that was neat and I tried both. I had a chocolate croissant, which was absolutely delicious. For my drink I ordered the spicy mocha, which is like a Mexican mocha with a little bit of extra spice added. It was very good. However, I ordered it hot and received lukewarm coffee. This is the second time I've gone to a coffee shop and the coffee wasn't piping hot. I don't know what this trend is. But anyway, the coffee tasted great, otherwise. The Pistachio Cake Donut for some reason was texturally firmer and drier than the other. Unfortunately, the fried donuts were all misses. The dough was just really dense and none of the toppings really hit. The Glazed Donut just made me sad that the dough was bad and the bacon on the Maple Bacon Donut wasn't crispy, so you got a cold, chewy, greasy bite that wasn't super pleasant. The chopped dough pieces in the Apple Fritter were also oddly firm instead of soft. For a place with rave reviews, I was pretty bummed by the donuts, but maybe the fried chicken sandwich is where it's at.

The texture of the food was particularly nice and even though it was $15 which is a little high, I was certainly full. I would definitely have it again :) The inside of this place is also nice; it's usually pretty full and the tables are full (in the mornings anyway), but it would be a good place to hang out and study I think. The gnocchi was overcooked which resulted in a mushy paste when it should have been pillowy and have a slight resistance when bitten into. Seating is pretty limited, but it looked like most folks were picking up pastries to go, but either way you order at the front one party at a time. Truffle Croissant (5/5): A must get, super intense black truffle against a perfectly flaky and chewy buttery croissant. The large bits of pearl sugar add pops of sweetness that I loved. Mango Tart (4.75/5): Mango really shines through with melt in your mouth texture and fruity sweetness. Coconut pasty cream adds almost a nutty flavor and luscious mouthfeel to contrast against the lightly crunchy cookie crust. Prosciutto Croissant (4.5/5): Pastry again impeccable with sharp saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese. Still absolutely delicious, but hard to recommend with how good the other items were. Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich (5/5): Another life changing bite. Hash brown add on is unbelievably crunchy against the egg bite that is pillowy soft and fluffy roll. Longanisa is salty and sweet, just the best way to start your morning. Lumpia (3.75/5): Comes out piping hot and the meat still stays juicy and bouncy. Good, not crazy. Filipino Breakfast with Longanisa and Tocino (4/5): Garlic rice is fluffy, but heavy on the garlic exactly like I love it. Sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked and the two meats were actually the weakest components, a bit chewier than expected. Chicken Adobo (4.25/5): Chicken has almost a nice char on the outside and doused in a tangy sauce with crispy garlic bits. Tender and juicy, personally preferred this over the longanisa and tocino. Sweet Corn Hojicha (2/5): Only real whiff that we tried. While you could really taste the corn, unfortunately ended up being wayyyy too sweet and I couldn't have more than a sip or two.

Ultimately, while I enjoyed the food and the beautiful space inside, I probably wouldn't wait 45 minutes in the blazing sun to get it again.

The crust was thin and crispy, with a large air cavity, making it very soft and fluffy. The salted egg yolk has just the right balance of sweetness and saltiness, and wasn't too cloying. Garlic Cheese Brioche Bun蒜香奶酪麵包: Perhaps its more Taiwanese name is "八蒜包" (Eight Garlic Bun). Its appearance and taste were very similar to those I've had at Taiwanese bakeries in mainland China. The cheese and garlic flavors were very strong, but the bread itself was slightly coarse. Hojicha Latte: The whole milk was very milky, but the hojicha flavor felt a little weak. However, it's already great to find a tea latte that's not very sweet.

Impressed by the quality of their food, I decided to elevate my dining experience by visiting the establishment with my girlfriend. However, I must express my profound disappointment with the service we received during our recent visit. Upon arriving, we were initially attended to by a server who appeared disinterested in catering to our needs. Shortly after, we were transferred to another server, yet unfortunately, the level of attention did not improve. Despite being polite and considerate throughout, it seemed that we were intentionally neglected by our server. Moreover, it was disheartening to observe that some of the young black patrons around us seemed to receive similar treatment, raising concerns about equitable treatment within the establishment. As someone who works within the hospitality and customer service industry, I understand the significance of providing each guest with a memorable experience. Regrettably, the lack of attentiveness and disparities in treatment overshadowed the restaurant's otherwise commendable cuisine. I trust that such issues may not reflect the establishment's core values, but this unfortunate experience has left me contemplating whether I will return to dine at this restaurant in the future. If you're in Chicago and craving some seriously delicious Cuban food, look no further than Cafecito! This place is an absolute HIDDEN gem, and I can't recommend it enough. First off, the vibe is fantastic. It's a cozy, casual spot with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal, it's the perfect place to unwind. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they really make you feel like a regular, even if it's your first time there. Let's talk about the food. The Ropa Vieja Platillo is hands down one of the best pulled pork style dishes I've ever had. The pork is so tender and flavorful, and moist. I stopped by in the summer and this is like inside a building. It felt very safe and cozy. I love their food . I also love their cuban style coffee. With starbucks on every corner downtown one might think that the other cafe's will not get a fair shake. But if you had their cuban style coffee drink that previous to this I have only had on visits to Panama and Costa Rica then you would agree with me. One thing they also did for me when making cuban style sandwiches is make it not spicy and put in bbq sauce instead so I dont melt because im not a big spicy food person. This is mixed review. On one hand the omelette is the worst I have ever tried, no flavor, the hash brown were dry and simply the plate did not taste like anything. On another hands, the coffee was great and the eggs with the rice and beans were good too...
