Cafeteria 15L's Thai Steak Salad is one of my all time favorite things, ever. When I'm downtown, like today, I've already paid for parking to attend a work event so I decided after it was over to get a Thai Steak Salad to go. I don't know what happened but they used arugula and kale instead of red cabbage and it's... not good. Arugula and kale aren't in the least bit similar to the flavor profile and texture of red cabbage. Romaine would have been a better choice if they were out of cabbage (which I assume they must have been?). I don't like arugula or kale on their own, and now they've gone and put it into my favorite salad? Were they out of cabbage? Was the B team on duty in the kitchen?? If I didn't already know how good this salad actually is when prepared as stated on the menu, this would be a two star review. They get four because this salad with the red cabbage is usually good, and I also ordered a chocolate milkshake which was amazing. I love how they make their shakes not too sweet but flavorful. This was recommended to me by a friend. I'm visiting for a business trip and was looking for places to eat. They told us they recently remodeled a year ago to provide a night club attached to the property. During the day, the patio is turned into an outdoor seating area. At night, it turns into a night club. They have a total of 3 bars; one in the main dining area, one in the patio, and another one adjacent to it. This whole place was charming! Bill was our server and he was great! The table service was endless. He never let our cups run empty and if they are about to, he did ask if we'd like another. We ordered an omelet with an upgrade to the wild berry pancake and the skillet also upgraded to a pancake. My colleague got coffee and said was the best one out of our entire trip! I got their iced tea. The wild berry pancake tasted way better than her spinach omelet. The potatoes were seasoned with garlic and had parmesan cheese and tasted amazing! The skillet had different types of meat and I loved it, except i didnt like the apple sausage. As I drank the ice tea (which I was expecting your typical lipton) I was hit with a flavor that made me had a ratatouille moment. It brought me back to my college days (early 2000s) where I always an ice tea before/in between classes. I loved that tea and no where else had that one. Favorites include their mac and cheese, any salad with their champagne vinaigrette on, their baked rigatoni (!!!) and their rotating soups. Every soup has been so good! New favorite must have item is their coconut shrimp! This dish is delicious and is almost like a salad in itself. Both employees don't know this but my wife was recently diagnosed with cancer and they went above and beyond to make sure my kids and I were taken care of! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cafeteria 15L, and I must say, it was an enjoyable experience. Mind you we did make a reservation same day in advance since it was a Saturday and it actually was quite busy upon arrival, though thanks to the reservation we were sat at our scheduled time and were greeted at our table without 10 minutes I would say. As for the ambiance, it is modern yet cozy, making it a great spot for brunch with friends or even a casual date. I started with the Brioche French Toast which came with fresh berries, berry purée, and salted maple cream. No side. While the toast itself was perfectly cooked--soft on the inside with a slight crisp on the outside--the berry purée was quite tart. If you're not a fan of tart flavors, I'd recommend asking for it on the side. It's a small adjustment that allows you to enjoy the dish without the strong tanginess overpowering the other flavors. As a side, I also ordered the breakfast potatoes, and they did not disappoint. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they were seasoned just right and added a nice savory contrast to the sweetness of the French toast. We also tried the Cafeteria Burger, and it was everything you'd want in a burger--juicy, flavorful, and topped with fresh ingredients. Other things I tried were okay; The french onion soup was perfectly fine, I tried my girlfriend's bbq burger, she requested medium but it came out more well-done than she would have liked. Service was good if not a little slow sometimes, the first time I went the waitress was nice but took forever to get us our drink refills and check. The second time was a little bit better. Ambiance is perfect. Music is not too loud, the dining area is clean and well-kept. The outside dining patio is gorgeous and I'd love to come back in warmer weather. The mixed greens salad was good even though I was not a fan of the dates in it. It could have used some more dressing. He and others at our table all complained the chicken was not well seasoned. I did taste the chicken and agree more seasoning was needed. For desert we had the salted caramel pie it is so delicious. Overall 4.3 experience It the start of the Music Circus theater season, so we'll be trying new and old establishments in downtown Sacramento, but we opted for Cafeteria 15L, which is our "go-to" / default. The morning was beautiful so we choose to eat outdoors after being greeted by the hostess. 2 minutes later our server Justin dropped off waters and took our drink order: Blue Moon on draft and a Peach Bellini for my wife. For brunch: Cafeteria 15L skillet and Chicken Fried Steak which came out quickly too. The presentation of food looks good but as I started eating the food, it is tasty but really nothing in the skillet stood out, you'll need to add something: ketchup, hot sauce, salt or pepper to your liking (which I applaud since some cooks can over season). The chicken fried steak (which my wife always order if on the menu with the gravy on the side) well it looked dry and the gravy consistency thick, even in a small sauce cup. My wife didn't finish her CFS so I know it wasn't to her liking. So on this visit what stood out was the efficient service and the weather mixed in with their outdoor sitting. We know there's plenty of other food on the menu that is ALOT better, so this experience won't deter us from returning! read more

All the food was tasty, and we really appreciated cafeteria 15L for letting us make a reservation for 9 people on a Saturday early afternoon. Was driving through Sacramento after spending a day skiing in Tahoe and decided to stop by Cafeteria 15L for dinner. Parking wasn't that bad considering it was a weekend evening. My friend and I ordered the french dip sandwich and mac and cheese and though we didn't have any high expectations, we were definitely blown away. The sandwich was juicy and very flavorful, without falling apart which I enjoyed. The star of the meal was definitely the mac and cheese, which I think may be the best I've had (and I've gone to restaurants that specialize in mac and cheese such as Homeroom in Oakland). I've been to Cafeteria 15L a few times, those times were mainly receptions following conferences or state capitol lobby days. The food and drinks were good those times. I recently went for a lunch and it turned out really well. They were pretty busy in the middle of the lunch rush but they took care of our group of 8 pretty quickly. I had chose two starters for lunch 1) trio of fries and 2) the chicken strips. Both were pretty good and tasty. They were both fried, but didn't feel too heavy from the oil/grease. We attended my nieces daughter's 1 year old party in the back banquet room. This is the place to host a party with your own bartender and bar.
