Caffe Reggio has been open since 1927! When I go to these old places in NYC, what the heck is with these bathrooms? Did they have a pee bucket and dump it in the street? Their bathroom seems like an after thought. And there's only one teeny, tiny bathroom. Ya gotta share with the ladies so don't leave the seat up. Walking into the cafe (caffe?) you can see the history of this place. Old memorabilia on the walls, its a dark spot that doesn't feel like a modern coffee house. All I wanna do is drink a quick espresso. No sitting, no waitress service and no paper cup! The waitress isn't feeling my vibe. Either sit or take out, that's it. No standing by the bar, slurp my espresso and book out. There is also hardly anyone in the store. Dopes! I take a whizz inside the super small bathroom. Wash my hands (always wash) Drink my espresso and book out Caffe Reggio, we've met. I'd rather go to one of the 100+ coffeehouses, drink a quick espresso like I just described than go back. Wandering around Greenwich Village and in need of a caffeine jolt? Maybe even a much needed sugar rush after a night out at the bars? Then look no further than this historic little gem smack dab in the heart of the village. This place has been around since like forever. It also looks it. Everything is dark and worn with the age of time. Oil paintings are barely recognizable on the walls, the original huge cappuccino maker is on display, and all sorts of art, pictures, and whatnot is hanging around. Kind of a strange music mix is playing from baroque to classical to organ music - but it works here to set the mood. Dimly lit with lots of little tables and chairs along with some other small seating but large on ambiance.This is like stepping back in time to a spot that is hard to find like this anymore in the city. Hey, Italian cappuccino was first introduced to the people here many decades ago! In fact, that is just what we ordered here the other night. A few cappuccino's, a pignoli tart, and a slice of tiramisu. All were tasty enough and not bad on the wallet. Actually, that pignoli tart was warm and wonderful. Service was kind and attentive - some cool people work here. A really nice spot to end an evening, catch up with friends over coffee, or start the day with a light breakfast. Decent amount of desserts and food items to choose from, but not overly done. The only fail is the "gas station" like mini bathroom. Kind of nasty looking and not too clean. At least a guy can just stand there and not touch anything, but I would recommend that girls do "the hover" when taking care of business. Cafe Reggio's been around since 1927...and it took forever for our pecan pie and ice cream to arrive. Not the kind of dish that should take 30 min to show up. Plus the pecan pie, with an almost non existent bottom crust felt subpar. The chai latte was very mediocre, as well, being too sweet, watery, and totally lacking the spices that make a chai latte what it is. Greenwich Village's oldest cafe since 1927 serving as a backdrop for iconic films: "Shaft" and "Next Stop, Greenwich Village." It definitely was all hype and so not worth it. The cappuccino was not good --- so what if it was the first place to serve it in the US (as they claimed)? The Latte was pedestrian; a "barista" at a starbucks could have executed it better. The snacks bombed --- a watery zabaglione? really? Then there was the stale cannoli, and the equally stale reheated croissant. Definitely a tourist trap in the otherwise sublime good-eats neighbourhood of Greenwich Village. read more

Despite the dark, dusty appearance, Caffe Reggio is a delightful spot. We stopped in out of necessity and stayed for awhile. We also returned to have brunch soon after. I'm not sure if the vanilla cappuccino was that amazing or if was the atmosphere or fabrizzio and his staff. We felt transported to Europe; and after covid, it was refreshing. They have very nice drinks. However, their customer service, specifically for the outside seating, is pretty terrible. Another table had to get up and go inside just to ask for them to come take their orders. Also, their food is incredibly overpriced. A plate of about 10 ravioli with nothing else is $19. read more

I just got back from Seattle, where you can find some of the best coffee shops in the country.  When I returned to New York, I came straight to Cafe Reggio.  Honestly, this is the most classic, solid coffee shop / cafe in the whole city. The cappuccino is classic.  The pastries are solid.  The atmosphere is classic New York.  They opened in 1927!!!  What more can you ask for? read more

I love everything I've tried here, the carrot cake, apple tart, Tuscany soup, tomato soup, pasta, actually that's not true I didn't care for the eggplant parm. I love the atmosphere. The loose leaf tea is the best I've had at a cafe. The bathroom smells. I love coming here to read, chat, drink wine, and do work. It can get loud in the evening. Really glad I checked this cafe out! Happened to be walking in Greenwich Village and had time before I had to catch my bus so I thought I would grab some coffee. The cafe itself is an original from the 1920's and the inside is decorated as such which, in my opinion, is awesome. I had the lavender latte which was perfect. Not too strong but strong enough I could tell it was different than a regular. There also serve food such as pasta for only around $12 that looked really good too. I would have gotten some for sure if I hadn't just eaten. The service was great and my waitress knew I had to leave for my bus so she made sure to bring my check as soon as I got my drink. What a quaint little spot! It's an intimate cafe with Parisian-style seating - not-too-little tables & chairs. It was pulsing with good energy both times that I went. They have drinks, savory foods and desserts. I tried their: _ CHAI LATTE ($5.25) = good, warming for a Winters day _ HOT CHOCOLATE ($3.75) = also good _ ITALIAN CHEESECAKE ($5.75) = more solid than I expected, more like a NY-style cheesecake, and DELISH! the waiters are angry because customers keep asking to order/pay from someone who "wasn't their initial waiter" and the door doesn't open for the waiters to bring food for their customers outside. I would've have given 0 stars but not possible. I've been going to this café since the 80s and I don't know what happened, it should've got better after the pandemic and be glad they're still on business, the worst service with a horrible attitude it's what you get in this hole of a cafe. They have the nerve to add the tip even if there's two customers at the table, it would be fine to do it if service was good but their staff is so rude they know if they leave it up to the customers nobody would tip. Just a horrible experience and after so many years as a customer I have to say that I would never go back. Again they didn't learned how to be respectful with the customers after these pandemic years. Not to mention pastries are not very fresh. This dimly lit antique furnished cafe is a favorite of mine. The bruschetta is my go to snacks to get. The iced mint tea and hot chocolate with whip cream are two of my favorite drinks. The bathroom is very small and pretty gross. But I still come here with my husband because this cafe is magical (99% because of the decor and ambiance). It transports you back in time. I really enjoyed hanging out at Cafe Reggio on a cold winter day. The decor was cozy and interesting. Our server was nice. The drinks and food were all good. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon after getting pho across the street. We were originally just looking for a place to grab coffee to go, but luckily it was not busy in Cafe Reggio and the server asked if we wanted a seat. I was glad she offered this as we were able to get a table right away and it was nice to sit and relax there. Some items we tasted... -Hot Chocolate: This was my favorite thing I tried. It was slightly bitter with a toasty warmth from the cocoa powder sprinkled on top. I loved how it was not too sweet and came with a dollop of whipped cream. The copper mug it's served in is also delightful. -Tiramisu: The mascarpone cream was heavenly. I wish I could have just eaten a bowl of that by itself. -Eclair: Good, but I thought the filling was a little too sugary and I wished it was creamier. -Cannoli: Nice crisp shell and good filling. I would come back here for coffee and pastries again, or to try their savory options for breakfast or lunch. I am so disgusted with their service this is probably one of the only yelp reviews I've ever written. As it was the only place open in the neighborhood, I asked if they were still serving dinner. I was told sure sit down but not at this table, because they didn't want to clean it. It was the only table not directly on the sidewalk where a bunch of maskless drunk people were walking by. They pointed me to a corner one with no chairs and yelled at me why don't see that instead of walking over and setting up chairs like a normal hostess. I sat down and the kind person next to me helped me find some. I waited 20 min for the guy to come and no one came over. My friend walked to get food from somewhere else and I was still waiting. Finally another server comes over and screams at us that we're not even allowed to eat there at all anymore because she was eating outside food. I told them I am waiting to be served and was ignored and already treated poorly. They come over again and go you need to leave IMMEDIATELY, and I was waiting for an Uber to come and was forced to walk into the middle of the street to look for because the sidewalk was packed to the brim with drunk college students. Never again will I go to this neighborhood at midnight. I have never been treated like this in a restaurant in my entire life, let alone one with $9 entrees. All I wanted was somewhere to eat dinner that was still open, and I was treated like pure trash. The server literally made me cry. Edited to add: I called calmly this morning to try to speak to manager on staff. The man who picked up said there's no one there call back later. I tried to patiently explain what happened and the asshole hung up on me MID SENTENCE. I was trying to be nice and as patient as possible and the audacity of this entire staff. Caffe Reggio? We are Lucky to have it. Caffe Reggio is a virtual living museum piece of a caffe. Opened in 1927 by Dominic Parisi, the place has been going strong ever since, first serving neighborhood Italians,he then Bohemian Beatniks discovered it, folk musicians including Bob Dylan, tourists, and NYU Students fill the place each day. The collection of artwork and relics is amazing. There is a 16th Century painting from an artist of the School of Caravaggio, other important paintings and even a Renaisance Bench that's from a Medici Family Palazzo, and the ceiling fan is from the Humphrey Bogart movie Casablanca Amazing! In this day and age, many great old businesses like this have been forced out of business by the Greedy Landlords of New York. Great coffee shop in the west village. The decor is amazing, old paintings, old chairs and tables, reminds you of the old European era. Their teas and bakery goods are amazing. I haven't tried their food, but it looked and smelled delicious. Gave 4 stars, because they only had one waitress for the whole restaurant and she was overwhelmed.
