Decided to call the Cajun King in Kaneohe - YES ... 1/2 lobster and fried rice offered there now since January, PLUS it's $1 less for the same lunch special! Kaneohe closer to us ... Guess where we went today instead? 4/4/2017 Darn... what a disappointing lunch at a fav! The price went up $1 and the quality of the steak took a nose dive - 1/3 smaller and tough. The salt and pepper 1/2 lobster was still good but no fried rice that day! Will probably give them one more chance. I had a mean Craving for garlic shrimp! Giovanni's to be exact. We came here simply because Kahuku was a bit of a drive for us with a toddler and a tired fiancé after a long day of work. It's Friday night and it's lent season this place is pretty busy but not terribly packed. So there shouldn't be be an issue to constantly having to wave down our waitress. I had been craving garlic shrimp and like I mentioned Kahuku was a bit out of the way so we settled on this place because we had scoped the menu on the way over and wanted to try the catfish and Cajun fries which they were out of. We went with Manila clams and garlic shrimp. Let's face it. Giovanni's is the best in my opinion for a reason. They marinate their shrimp. I think Cajun king just cooks it in it or adds the garlic butter/ seasonings after cooking which adds little flavor to the shrimp, it's all on the outside. I'm not even a huge shrimp lover but I do enjoy Giovanni's I thought it would be the same. Not! I get it they leave the shell on but i prefer tiger shrimp without the legs. Being bummed out about no catfish we ordered Manila clams with Cajun butter and those were pretty tasty. The clam open up and has all that sauce on and inside of the shell and the clam itself and is very tasty! found myself dipping my shelled shrimp in the Cajun butter very often. Very good. I had corn and potato in my bag of shrimp but I prefer rice to put all that sauce on. We had to flag down our waitress a few times for more fruit punch and for more rice as there were a few employees standing around but only your waiter will help you. Annoying. My family has always gone to the Cajun King in Kaneohe, but today we were in Aiea and we were so excited to try it. TOTAL FAIL. We would have rather drive all the way to Kaneohe then eat here. We got combo #4, an extra pound of shrimp and another pound of crawfish with cajun garlic butter at medium spice and a extra order of sauce. When it came out, we hesitated a little we could smell all the oil. When we tasted it it was literally all oil and chili. The garlic was non existent, it basically tasted fake. Second of all, the cleanliness. I admit that the decoration is a bit nicer than the Cajun King in Kaneohe, but the tables and chairs are just disgusting. The chairs are all ripped up and the tables are oily. So what we ended up doing was packing it all up early and going to the Cajun King in Kaneohe and buying sauce. As my dad walked past the counter coming back from the bathroom to wash his hands, he overheard the waitress and waiter talking to each other about us and why we packed up super early. Let me start off by saying that I'm so damn happy that we now have this kind of spot on the leeward side. Inside is super nice and clean, probably the most classy Cajun seafood restaurant you've ever been to. I almost felt awkward wearing a tshirt and shorts but then I remembered I'M HERE TO FEEEEAAAASSSTTTTTT. Our waiter was very nice and explained to us everything on the menu. Pretty self-explanatory. They still have that grand opening special going on with every combo you get two free drinks/domestic beers. I chose to get coke because I need that coke wash after I eat. We ordered Combo #3 which came with King Crab Legs, Crawfish, Clams, Mussels and Shrimps. Came with corn, sausage, potatoes, rice, the standard. Also ordered extra pounds of mussels, clams and crawfish. We decided to go with the Cajun/Butter & Garlic sauce at mild since we had kids with us. They gave us tools and those awesome scissors so getting the meat out was super easy and fast. I took the bib and just used my hands. I like to make that one on one connection with the crustaceans. I FUCKING LOVE GARLIC and god damn did they soak that shit in garlic! The next afternoon I still had that garlic aftertaste and my fingers still smelled like garlic. DAS HOW. The best part was that it wasn't that bitter garlic taste either, it was very flavorful. I found myself dipping my shrimps inside the mussel to get the little garlic pieces. Five stars all around for my new favorite restaurant on the leeward side! The restaurant is spacious and it smells like garlic, my favorite! My two other friends and I ordered the #4 combo. It came with clams, mussels, shrimp, crawfish, and crab legs. It was enough for the three of us to share. I love anything garlic so I thought the garlic butter sauce they used was delicious. It tastes just like going to the North Shore except now I don't have to drive as far for garlic shrimp/seafood. The service was friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. This was my 7 year old daughter's birthday dinner. She LOVES shrimp! If I could, I'd give it zero stars. When we sat down, our party of 2 adults 3 kids was one of three tables seated. When we ordered our drinks, the waiter had no idea which drinks to recommend. My daughter put her weight on her side of the table and it was so wobbly all my kids drinks went flying. This was the worst part. My 3 kids and I immediately started cleaning up. The FIVE servers watched us and not a single person offered us help. I had to fold up our paper and get new paper for our table. I had to get on my hands and knees and wipe up the floor. I had to wipe down my kids chairs. I'll repeat! NOT A SINGLE EMPLOYEE OFFERED HELP!!! They also never offered to refill my daughter's sprite. We ordered popcorn chicken, catfish, and a pound of shrimp with sausage, corn, and potatoes. The chicken came, 10 min. later the catfish came. Then we waited. And waited. And waited for 40 minutes. 5 tables were seated and served before I asked the first time about our shrimp. I asked again 10 minutes later. No one ever got back to me. We sat there for almost an hour. We watched the restaurant fill. We had a good view, because we were in the exact center of the restaurant. We watched people start, finish, and pay for their dinners and my 7 year old continued to ask when she'd be getting her birthday dinner. We were never given bibs, gloves, or utensils. We had to get those ourselves. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks. I hate to post this, because the lemon garlic sauce really is good. We love seafood but the number of stars on yelp was a bit of a turn off. However we live close by and we were really craving some Cajun seafood for the Super Bowl. We called in our order (and a big order at that because there were 5 adults total). They quickly picked up the phone, ordering was easy, and it was ready For pickup in 20 minutes ! This is the 4th crab in a bag type of place to open (that I know of) since Kickin Cajun and sadly, this is also the first place that I can't give a 4 or 5 star rating. The FOOD is just not up to the standard of their competitors. For one, their signature Cajun and Garlic butter sauce needs some serious tweaking. The garlic and butter are clumped together and separated so you need to literally mix them back together yourself before you dip. Now the flavor is still pretty good once you've mixed them but I'm already working hard by cracking the shells. Come on...give me a "break". The menu set up is similar to their competitors (Kickin Cajun, Crab City, Crab Bucket, Raging Crab ect..) where you have seafood by the pound or combinations. Another downfall in my opinion is that they don't allow combo substitutions. The good is that the beer is pretty cheap. 3 dollars a bottle for domestic. PRICE is standard among the rest since a lot of seafood is based on market price. The ENVIRONMENT is nothing special. The good is that it's spacious and can fit quite a bit of people. If you ever ate at what used to be Christine's then you have an idea. The SERVICE is standard. Been here twice and on both times it seems like the staff just goes through the motions without emotions (Like some other places that my friends and I go on guys night outs). This last time I felt rushed and the place was empty. I believe that this place needs some improvement and I hope they do because they seem to be the only crustacean place that I know in this area (Salt Lake, Aiea, Pearl City) of the island. OK the regular menu is a winner! For their opening, they were giving away two drinks with purchase of any combo. We ordered the combo with clams, mussels, crawfish, shrimp, and crab in medium cajun sauce with sausage, potatoes, and corn. It came with one bowl of rice. This was perfect for 2 people who LOVE seafood. The food came out fast and we were raring to go. From the steel bucket to a plastic bag placed on your paper table, I suggest you go for the bib and gloves because the cajun sauce will leave you very very messy. It was just a slight kick. I'm looking forward to trying their volcanic spicy. We had good laughs breaking open all the exoskeletens, leaving a pile of mess all over our table and paper towels. I will definitely be a regular to this hot spot. I think this place is going to get popular fast since it was already full of customers during their soft opening. I'm with a party of 13 that comes here very often and the waitress informs us that we cannot order anything but the Combo meals 1 thru 4. Meaning: they were low on king crab legs and have bulk of mussels, crawfish and clams. So in order for them to make profit instead of selling what is on the menu, they are restricting what you order to make up their losses. Very very sad. Time to find another crab restaurant. So I chose this place to celebrate my 60th birthday with my family & friends, truly enjoyed it! Finally had dinner here the other night. Spent $100 for a lemon garlic butter combo with a pound of extra shrimp, chicken poppers with fries, onion rings, and drinks. The combos are HUGE! It filled all of us up and I was burping garlic all night long. The king crab was moist and delicious. The provide all the tools needed to eat crab. The sausage was perfect. The corn cobs were devoured by my three year old. I love that they give you bibs and gloves. The crab legs did poke holes in the gloves but it helped with keeping things a little neater when eating. So..... Cajun king, it's alright. Quantity is good, but the quality isn't, and especially for the prices. The only reason I threw on some stars, was only because of the hard working proactive servers that were working. Other than that, the food wasn't so well, the texture of my corn on the cob felt like I was sinking my teeth into a warm sponge soaked in water. The shrimp was way over cooked(hard). And the rice was dry! I mean, who messes up rice!!? Especially for us island people living here. And overall, the seafood tastes as if it was frozen for a well over long period than it should be in order to be cooked and served. He got our drinks right away (and just a tip: he mentioned to us that their beer is cheaper than the fountain drinks so bottoms up!). The food was delicious. I can't remember what we ordered exactly because my main focus was to devour the bag full of crawfish my family had ordered. My family LOVES seafood. The fact that they were eating and not talking (for once haha) meant that they loved the food. We're not food connoisseurs so we're not picky with the sauces or the level of spiciness with our food. I had high hopes for this place. To start off , I'm vacationing Hawaii from New Orleans. I was craving some crawfish and snow crab. I ordered a pound of volcanic (the spiciest) Cajun style crawfish and a pound of lemon garlic butter snow crab legs. The girl who took my order was really friendly. The parking lot was really crowded. It took a while to find parking. The restaurant was fairly busy and I waited 20-25 minutes for my food, which I did not mind. My total came up to roughly 28$, which is a really good price. When I got my seafood, it smelled great. I couldn't wait to go home and dig in. But, when I finally started eating, I was thoroughly disappointed. Both the crawfish and snow crab were really, really salty. The snow crab had good flavor to it, but the salt killed it. The snow crab was cook well, not perfect, but close enough. The crawfish was a bit of disaster. First off, it had garlic in it, which confused me. I'm from New Orleans. We created Cajun crawfish. We don't put garlic in it. It was salty and not Cajun at all. I could tell that the crawfish were frozen, and a lot of them were dead before they were frozen. I should have known when the server told me that they used Thai Chili. They were not as spicy as they should be. Real Cajun crawfish will have your nose running by the 5/6th crawfish. These were mildly spicy if even that. I was unable to finish the bags of seafood because it was just way too salty. I was also slightly annoyed that I was charged $3 for a 24 ounce drink. This place may be good for locals. For me it's just too salty. If you really want snow crabs, just get it plain and dip in butter. read more

Our First Father's Day was ruined by this place. I called last week to make a reservation for tonight. Apparently their policy is to call for confirmation and if they don't get an answer, they cancel it ... but they don't tell you that when you call. Additionally, when the number THEY write down isn't correct, it's YOUR fault when you show up and no longer have a reservation. They were willing to put us on the list, and we were told they'd let us know where on the list we'd be. We waited half an hour and nothing with the line of people steadily growing outside. I'm guessing the guy at the counter isn't a dad, nor does he have any training in customer service. The customer ISN'T always right but you should never blatantly insinuate it's their fault when your employee wrote down the wrong number. read more

Been hearing rave reviews about this place and always wanted to try this place. The opportunity finally came up when a good friend had her birthday celebration here tonight. As soon as we walked out of our car to restaurant we could already smell that garlic butter smell. Already salivating and couldn't wait to pig out. Seafood is my favorite so this was a treat for me. Ordered the king crab meal for 2 with garlic butter and mild cajun seasoning. Next time I will just order garlic butter and no Cajun seasoning. The Cajun seasoning was over powering which killed the taste of crab legs. On the positive side it was a lot of seafood for $55.00. Taste was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. The bummer part was they ran out of oysters. I love oysters and they ran out!! Staff was very nice and attentive. They should have fresh bread to dip into sauce. We went there for a birthday dinner for family and this is the first time I've eaten here. First of all..... who goes out to eat when you have to 'work' at your dinner and it's served in a plastic bag! Second... the chairs are all worn-out, plastic is peeling and pretty much outdated! They added 18% gratuity and then give you gratuity guidelines on the amount WITH the 18% already added and if you don't look closely to your receipt, the amount is based on the sale + the 18%... double tip in my opinion. The wipes that they give you after you eat are disgusting..... I decided to use the lemon wedges and my ice water to clean up. My nephew said NO soap in the bathroom... really? I've been to most of the crab places here in oahu and this place is as good as the rest. But the only negative thing I can say is that their raw oysters are always not available. Fun place to go with a small group - there were 8 of us, 7 adults and one child. We ordered 2 combos - one with lobster and the other with king crab, with extra crawfish and a dozen oysters. We chose the mild garlic butter sauce with extra medium spicy garlic butter on the side (yum!). The combos came with 2 bowls of rice and 2 complimentary beers (Dad had those). We liked the Leffe blond and brown beer, which perfectly complimented the meal. Be ready to get dirty - there are temporary gloves and bibs. They use paper with wax on the bottom, so dumping the bag like you do in New Orleans is also okay. We had a fun time and were all pretty full at the end. We had great service from Shayna, who was very friendly and didn't mind the big mess we all made. We will definitely be back again, but we'd probably order more of the item(s) that we wanted the most vs. 2 combos. I've been to a variety of these types of spots because my best friend LOVES them and I think this one is my least liked. It took awhile for our waitress to come up and take our order, but once she did our service was good. We ordered a combo which includes the usual fare of crayfish, shrimp, corn on the cob, potato, sausage, mussel, and clams with your choice of a crab or lobster. We received a free drink with our order. This place also gives you free rice but it was given to us in one small Styrofoam bowl. It was kind of awkward since there was two of us and they didn't give us other bowls to split the rice amongst each other. We just sort of put the rice in the middle and ate from our individual side of the bowl. We chose the garlic butter sauce and being a garlic lover it did not disappoint! The garlic was pureed into the sauce so you get a taste with each bite. Everything was going well until I tried a clam... It was super gritty!!!!! At first we thought maybe it was just bad luck and we tried another clam...and another one...ALL OF THEM WERE GRITTY. Plus a lot of the clams we got weren't open which means NOT FRESH (they were already dead when they started cooking them). My friend did say that when she first came during their grand opening, their clams were grit-free, maybe it was just a bad batch this time? Either way...a business should get better with time not worse! If you go somewhere for seafood, you expect your seafood to be fresh and prepared properly! This is one of those out of the ordinary FANTASTIC finds!! We walked in and there were a few locals that were very friendly. The waitress sat us down and was very personable. She went out of her way to get to know us and made the experience what it was. We told her what we wanted and She recommended exactly what we were looking for and craving. We ordered the pound of Shrimp with Garlic Butter and a pound of Dungeness Crab with Garlic Butter-HOLY CRAP!! It was awesome!! I recommend this gem to all my friends who head to Oahu.
