Went for dinner with a party of 8. Made reservations and when they got there we were told the could only seat us outside. We selected indoors when making the reservation. Not even an option of a wait time, just nope you can not sit inside. It is 102 degrees out. The room temp tap water didn't help. That should have been mentioned while making the reservation. Also why are their plants hanging above the table. We all got leaves in our drinks and food continuously throughout the meal. Bathroom was stellar. Individual stalls. Stocked paper towels and a door you don't have to touch to exit. 10/10 no notes on the bathroom. They were busy so take this with a grain of salt, but the service was slow and forgetful. Food was okay. Not worth it for the price. Expensive sides with two tiny slices of bread always rubs me the wrong way. I feel like I should have to order two sides orders of bread to finish the dip. Whipped ricotta was good. Hummus was bland but tasted ok. Chicken and gravy were very flavorful. I got a pork loin and the side that came with it was "marinated tomatoes". Marinated tomatoes consists of 3 pickled cherry tomato halves. They weren't good. The pork chop looked very sad sitting on the plate with nothing but a garnish and a white sauce that matched the color of the plate. Drinks were strong but didn't taste good if your into a heavy handed pour maybe worth going to the bar but skipping the food. Waitstaff was polite but as previously stated forgetful. Security was weirdly rude and were clearly upset that we were waiting inside for the valet to get our car. We brought a little cake and they cut it up and plated it for us so that was a very nice touch. Came for a friend's birthday dinner and had a good time! The servers are attentive and friendly, despite the large size of the restaurant. We sat outside which was a tad warm in mid July but the dusk breeze helped, the seating near the misters seemed much cooler. Everyone was happy with their meals, the serving sizes were HUGE and worth the prices. First drink, my friends enjoyed the Cucumber Highball and the Mango Amore (mocktail), and the Orange Turmeric Spritz (mocktail) was decent as well. For starters, the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio was very good, crazy flavorful and a huge serving for 3 people, we didn't finish it. The Whipped Ricotta tasted amazing with the pesto, but it could've come with more focaccia, the ratio was a bit off. For dinners, the Bolognese and Creste di Gallo Gamberi pastas were good, the Gamberi has a strong corn flavor if you like that. Upon entering Cala, you'll feel as though you've been transported to Tulum, except the food is Mediterranean and New American. The stunning space is light, airy, and inviting. We were seated promptly as the restaurant was not too busy. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I ordered an oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon as well as an egg white breakfast wrap. The wrap is served in a spinach tortilla stuffed with sauteed mushrooms, roasted red peppers, crispy potatoes, white cheddar, basil pistou and a side of salsa. It was nice and wholesome. One friend opted for the Cala turkish eggs which comes packed with smoked salmon, avocado, chile fried organic eggs, whipped yogurt, shaved radish, pickled onion, and toasted pita - a tasty low-carb, high-protein dish. I came in with a party of 6, we had a reservation made two weeks in advance. We waited a total of 25 minutes past 8:30 while we watched multiple walk-in tables larger than ours be sat. When we were finally sat there was strangely no silverware at our table. Our server seemed irritated the whole night and met us with hostility. Despite this, and the wait time, we were celebrating a birthday, and did not have time to change dinner plans on a busy Saturday night in old town, with a group as large as ours. On top of the questionable service, to really solidify our poor experience, our steaks were severely undercooked, and the Greek salad was simply tasteless. I truly do not understand why. I think this is an opportunity to earn a customer. When we got there, we had no option but to valet our car because there was no parking available. Little did we know that the valet cost $20 and was NOT comped by the restaurant. We had a reservation and were seated outside at a very small table for our party underneath misters that were way too strong. Everything was humid from the misters and it ruined our hair and made it hard to focus on a conversation. We asked to move tables or turn off the misters, as the sun had gone down and it wasn't even hot anymore, but they declined both of these requests, so we were stuck underneath the humid jungle mess. We ordered drinks and it took them forever to arrive. Drinks were ok- but wayyyy overpriced. Our food also took a long time to arrive. Portions were SO SMALL and the food was mid at best. I got the vodka pasta and I have made better pasta at home. It was small, and just ok. The prices for these very mid entrees were ridiculous. And then came time for the bill. They charged us for 3 extra drinks that we did not order and on top of that forced us to pay a service charge for using a credit card instead of cash?? Who does that in the year 2026??? We've been to Cala three times now. Overall it's a fair experience. Not great, not terrible. The scene is nice, very lively, and cocktails are good. Food is ok, no standouts but nothing bad. They always seem overwhelmed with the people there, so service suffers greatly. Very slow, very fast during interactions. Sometimes you feel like you're flagging someone down and bothering them . Also the seating situation is weird, no matter what you book you may end up in the bar area or main area, who knows. I'd recommend going for happy hour and skip a date night or brunch. read more

On my second visit I met a friend for lunch. We started with the feta tzatziki, which is basically a huge platter of crudite vegetables and toasted pita crisps served with a delicious dip. It was very fresh and tasty and plenty to share. For lunch, I again went with the egg white breakfast wrap and my friend went with the chicken tinga tostadas. I had an Arnold Palmer... The restaurant is located inside the hotel, and either valet or street parking is available. Upon walking in, the ambiance and aesthetics of the restaurant were beautiful. I highly recommend making a reservation, as it is located in Old Town Scottsdale and could get busy fairly quickly. With that being said, expect to spend some money. Everything in Old Town is generally overpriced, and this place was no exception. Cocktails are about $20 each, entrees range anywhere from $25-$60 each. I ordered the pasta, and for an almost $30 pasta, I feel it was just alright. I hate to admit it, but I've definitely had better pasta at Olive Garden. We got the flaming saganaki and it was the most delicious appetizer I've had in a while. It comes in a hot pan and they light it up in front of you as they sprinkle some lime juice after. The only downfall is that it comes with only 4 pieces of break which I'm sure they would bring some more, if needed. We then shared the tequila espresso drink between 4 people and it felt like the equivalent of one and a half drinks. We ordered the pasta, huevos rancheros and egg white breakfast. To begin, the food was absolutely delicious! I had the Alla Vodka pasta and the sauce was rich, well seasoned, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The Wagyu Rigatoni was also delicious and I would order this again next time. However, as much as I would have enjoyed my experience here, the service was something left to be desired. Brooke L was our server and she was great to start-- very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. However, she disappeared and barely checked up on our table. As a party of more than 6, there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to the check and one would expect great service if this is the case. Our experience on the other hand did not meet this expectation. We had numerous dirty plates on the table (that sat there during our entire dinner), she only came by twice to our table to refill waters, she was not attentive to our simple needs, and walked by our table multiple times without engaging. It is typically considered rude to explicitly try to get a server's attention at a restaurant and for such a busy restaurant, this is the last thing I would want to do to cause stress on the customer service team. However, we finally felt the need to finally flag our server Brooke down just to get our checks because waiting 15+ minutes for our server to come to our table is ridiculous. For a place that is known for providing exceptional group experiences, the server did not meet the expectation that this establishment tries to accomplish. Thus, I regret to admit that the automatic 20% gratuity added to the check was not earned, which deeply affected our experience here. read more

I don't expect much from a night out, but when I walk into a place like Cala, a restaurant that's supposed to be more than just white tablecloths and a well-curated menu, I expect competence, especially when it's my best friend's birthday. The reservation was for six people at 7:00 pm, so I'm there ten minutes early, cake in hand. I've already called ahead--cake's cleared, everything's fine. I walk in, drop the cake off, and they sit me at a table for three. Apparently, the reservation is at 7:30, or so they say. Something's off, but fine. I work in restaurants; I get it. Things go sideways sometimes. Then my friend shows up, and we realize it's not even our table. Okay, no harm done, just a bit of confusion. I talk to the hostess, make sure the cake's going to land on the right table when the time comes. "No problem," she says. Famous last words. We order drinks. Two are wrong--twice. The third time, maybe out of sheer exhaustion or the grace of the cocktail gods, they finally get it right. But not before we've waited 20 minutes. One of my friends asks for Malbec. Simple request. She has to remind the waitress three times before it finally shows up. How hard is it to pour a glass of wine? Now, it's cake time. I give the signal for the surprise. This is the moment. Waitress nods, disappears. And then, out comes some random cake from the dessert menu. Not the one I brought, not the one that's been sitting in the back for over an hour, waiting to surprise my friend. This, this right here, is the kind of mistake that makes you want to tear your hair out. I pull the waitress aside and point it out. Her response? "But this cake is no-charge." Great. Free cake. Except it's not the cake I brought. Not the cake I specifically organized with the hostess. So I ask again, and after she asks me to describe the cake I brought in, she finally manages to bring out the right one. By the time the bill arrives, I see they've charged me for the cake we didn't even want. She refunds the $18, sure, and throws in a comp for the first two drinks they botched earlier. Gratuity's already built in because there are six of us, but if I had my way, that tip wouldn't be anywhere near the bill. Cala, you were supposed to be better. While the food was good and our server was kind, having food and drinks taken while we were still consuming them even after clearly stating so really ruined the experience.
