Not bad. Was looking for a nearby lunch spot at West Portal and came across Calibur. Friend and I came here on a Sunday around 1PM. There were a couple others at the restaurant as well. The cashier was nice and friendly. We ordered two single burgers and fries. The fries came with housemade ketchup, which tasted good. My friend didn't like it and opted for regular Heinz ketchup instead. The fries were nice and crisp. The burger itself was alright. I was not blown away. Think it would have been better if it were juicier. This is a good place to stop if you are nearby, but not to make a trip out of going here. It's a fairly big restaurant, so you can bring a group if you wanted. Prices are fair. Not super cheap but paying for better quality. read more

Good burger (especially liked the bun), definitely not good fries, but ordering takeout from here is annoying as hell. You call their phone #, you immediately get a message telling you you can only order online. No one will come to the phone. Like many people would, you Google "Calibur." You see a button pop up that says "place order." Great - convenient! You order. Now you have just UNKNOWINGLY ordered via postmates, even though you never touched the Postmates app (screw Postmates anyway, but that's another review entirely). You get there to pick up your order, they ask you if you ordered through Postmates. Eyebrow raised, you say no. But guess what - you did! "Oh by the way, since you ordered from Postmates, you just paid 20% more than what you could have paid if you had gone directly to our website." GREAT. "Oh but here's a coupon for 10% off next time." How infuriating. There won't be a next time because while yes, your burger was delicious i'll admit, i got screwed at a time when no one really has any extra money to just throw away. Especially to nasty Postmates. Furthermore, we checked off all the boxes for the included dipping sauces for the two orders of dry soggy french fries, and when we got home - NONE in the bag. Had my eye on this place so finally decided to order from Caviar. Got the single patty burger and it was super fresh; meat juices dotted the box. Lettuce and onions were fresh, crispy, and thick enough for my liking. Mustard made it even better. Bun had some heft and held up it's shape. Reminded me of a glossy Hawaiian roll almost. But not too thick as to made you bloated immediately. These guys really know what they're doing. Those Calibur fries though. My gosh. Like Animal fries from In N Out but better. Thick and long french fires, still crispy after a long delivery, side of a ketchup/mayo/relish blend that was thick and delicious, and long strings of sautéed onions. Mixed together and held up down to the last fry. Not a soggy one in the bunch. Reminds me of a high end burger. Keep doing what you're doing. I'll be back for sure. read more

Really great local spot with legit burgers and fries. Came on a weekend night and it wasn't too crowded, so got a table and got to enjoy pretty quickly. Burger was good. Would have loved it even thicker and juicier and maybe even a bit more salty, but overall with bacon and cheese was really enjoyable. Not sure how they are outside of burgers - one of our kids' grilled cheese was mistakenly served as a cheeseburger - so probably stay on the core of the menu. A bit disappointed in the beverage options (shakes and sodas), so drank water. Overall good, but not worth a long trip. read more

The burgers here amazing! I like that they're organic and customizable and that you can add/subtract any toppings you want. Pros and cons below: Pros: Good price (think a bit more expensive than Super Duper Burger), portions are big, lots of parking, safe area, lots to do in West Portal after your burger (cute bookstore next door) Cons: Fries are separate and a bit expensive for what they are (the regular tallow fries were good but too expensive), restaurant atmosphere is a bit outdated (half cool retro, half just old) Overall, I would come here again since I'm always in West Portal but I wouldn't actively seek to go here. I ordered delivery a cheese burger with their fries fried in beef tallow. Burgers are hard to deliver because of the moisture from the lettuce and tomato as it can soggy up the bun by the time you get it, but not this burger. The patty was cooked medium well, juicy but got greasy. The cheese was melted, the veggies are nice and crisp and the bun was glazed. The fries arrived crispy still and the flavor from the tallow adds to the flavor of the burger. I can't wait to visit for a dine-in experience. If your food tasted that good delivered, I bet it's even better when it's hot out of the kitchen served alongside a cold shake. Will visit soon. read more

I've always had a soft spot for burger joints. For the past month, I've embarked on the "KETO" diet and I'm thrilled that I can eat burgers still (without the bun & fries of course). Fortunately, Calibur offers "lettuce wraps" for those who prefer the "bun-less" route. They offer additional toppings like jalapeños, a fried egg, or avocado for $1.50. Be careful though. It can add up lol. They also have fries that are fried in beef tallow aka beef fat. Looks like a delicious way to add flavor to fries! I had to stay away though due to my dietary restrictions. My burger was good. Messy though due to all the cheese and egg (which was expected LOL). They do cook all burgers to a medium well so if that's not your thing make sure you specify that with them. Wish my burger was a little bit more moist. Verdict: Not bad for my first try. It wasn't the best burger I've had. It was pretty expensive for a triple patty burger with eggs mushrooms and caramelized onions = $22. read more

This place does a great classic burger with pizazz. I got a single cheeseburger with American cheese, mustard, mayo, and calibur sauce (which kind of reminded me of in n out spread/thousand island dressing)-- absolutely delicious. Burger was cooked to perfection. They have some more "gourmet" style burgers with fancy toppings too, but I've never been one for frills and fluff. Just give me a quality patty, crisp bun, and fresh veggies and I'm good to go-- man does calibur deliver. Bonus! Fry sauce Delicious burger Travels well I've ordered Calibur a number of times since the pandemic started. They have always delivered delicious takeout at a high bar of quality. I will probably treat myself again soon. I always get the 1/4 lbs burger with - American Cheese - Bacon - Carmelized Oinions - Calibur Sauce - And the standard toppings I also usually order Calibur fries with carmelized onions. People who work here are downright rude. Today is Sunday and I placed an order online for pick up as my husband is driving to Calibur at 7:55pm so I can watch my daughter. I send my husband a screenshot of what was ordered. He finds parking right out front (score!) and heads in saying he's picking up an order placed online and states my name. Guy at the counter says it was just done and hands my husband the bag of food and asks if we ordered any drinks. My husband says I don't know since he didn't check the screenshot I sent him and the RUDE WORKER has the audacity to ask my husband if he's drunk?! Like seriously....WTF? How is this even acceptable and just because he didn't know what his wife ordered?! How about just checking the ticket taped outside the bag if there were drinks ordered? Is that too much work to read a ticket with four items - two burgers, one kids meal and one cheese fries? I'm sorry if sleep deprived parents walk around like drunk people to workers. C'mon now! This is highly offensive and not acceptable. Seems like this business needs to better train its employees to 1) not be so lazy and check if drinks were ordered 2) not outright ask people if their drunk because they don't know what they ordered. Would have given a 3.5. Had lunch at Calibur today. It's a burger place but I went for the grilled cheese, Calibur fries, and a Diet Coke (no Iced Tea here). First, the grilled cheese, bread was good and the cheese had a good taste. Would have liked the cheese to be a little more melted. Charged me .99 for some jalapeño slices (seems a bit steep). Don't get the Calibur fries unless you love thousand island dressing and lukewarm onions (which looked more like a tiny side of French onion soup, which I wouldn't dump on my fries). Diet Coke was good :) would have preferred an iced tea. Total was $15.16 before tip. Lastly, who the heck has a restaurant in SF that does not have at least one type of hot sauce? This is truly one of the most underrated burgers in town! I don't come here frequently, typically only during the week when I'm running errands, but whenever I do, I'm reminded of just how great their burgers are. The patties are cooked perfectly and you can choose from their selection of toppings (at no additional charge). Their house sauce is soooo good and the perfect way to top it off. The burger itself is assembled and wrapped well - my pet peeve is a burger that gets messy and falls apart before I get to the end - so that has always impressed me here. Calibur is a bit on the pricier end and a meal will set you back around $15, but it's worth the splurge. This is my go to spot whenever I'm craving a burger. Every experience here is always great as the food and service is wonderful. During the beginning of the lockdown due to COVID-19, I was heartbroken when I found out they were closed and not taking any to go orders either. However, when they reopened during the summer, I was ecstatic!!! The burgers as well as the condiments are always flavorful and juicy, and they give such big portions for the fries. I also love their Calibur ketchup because it's sweet and also savory, and I love a mixture of both! The prices are a bit higher here but definitely worth what you're paying because the food is high quality. The workers are always accommodating and willing to help and are overall very warm and friendly. I've been coming here for the past few years and I'll definitely be continuing to! read more

I was staying nearby West Portal for a business trip and was in the mood for some good ol burgers and saw this place tucked away as I was walking out of the West Portal Muni station. It's probably one of the better burger places I've had in awhile. It reminds me a lot of In N Out burgers for those familiar with the West coast burger chain. Calibur let's you choose how many patties, toppings, and your choice of cheese to top it off. They also have a special Calibur sauce, which I would suspect is a thousand island ketchup mix. They also offer variety in their fries too ranging from plain, garlic style, and chili fries. Their sodas are also sourced locally which is cool.
