I'm sure if you live in or around the Sacramento area, you've come across a "California Burrito" location in your neck of the woods. This particular location (tucked in between a McDonald's & Quick Quack Car Wash) is directly on Lichen Dr and adjacent to busy Antelope Rd in Citrus Heights. They opened their doors for business back in late-2023 and in that amount of time, I've seen more negative than positive reviews. So I took matters in my own hands to be the judge of that to see where this place ranks. I will say that the food served here is eerily similar to what you'd find at other fast-food Mexican restaurants including Adalberto's & Carolina's. The menu includes just about everything you can possibly imagine including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tortas, salads, nachos, breakfast options, and a variety of Mexican beverages. One big plus is how sizable the dining area is here with ample seating to comfortably seat at least 3 dozen customers. Furthermore, they also offer a 24-hour drive thru while their inside lobby is even open during the late night hours. My lady and I came here during the afternoon of Saturday 5/24/25 at around 3:30pm as we were both absolutely starving after a full day of errands. I ordered the "California Burrito" (quite fitting when coming here) while she went with (2) "Carne Asada" tacos and (1) "Rolled Beef" taco. We both order a Horchata to wash it down. Total price for everything including tax came out to around $27. I also wanted to add that chips/salsa are included with your purchase when dining in. Service here was quick as both of our plates arrived in about 7 minutes. My burrito was piping hot and had fresh chunks of seasoned Carne Asada complete with fried potatoes, cheese, and Pico de Gallo. And once adding some of their red & green salsas in every savory bite, I will say that everything tasted great after it was all said and done. I've been to my fair share of Mexican fast-food places and everything here was fresh and inviting. All in all, I am giving this "California Burrito" location an above average four-star rating.

We ordered takeout on this rainy evening. One of us ordered the Chicken Fajita plate. It all got glopped together in the takeout box but overall was tasty. I ordered the Carne Asada regular burrito. It was packed with steak and very filling. My only complaint is that it was cold. I don't mean lukewarm because it was takeout. The tortilla itself was actually cold. Other than that it was good.

3 Stars We came here for the drive-through for the first time. The food was okay overall, and it's definitely convenient that they're open 24 hours. One downside was the price. We ordered three kids' burritos, one adult burrito, and taqueria rolls, and the total came out to around $50, which felt a bit expensive for what we got. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and worked quickly. Our food was delivered fast, which we appreciated. I didn't go inside, but from the drive-through window the place looked clean and nicely decorated with cute Christmas decorations. Overall, it's a decent spot with good service and late hours, but the pricing keeps it from being a higher rating.

Just went through the drive-through because I was craving a super burrito that I usually get at Alberto's for $11.75. Ordered the super burrito and was charged $15.62 and it was basically beans, cheese and rice with a very small portion of Asada. Absolutely unacceptable I will not go back. Also it was very sloppily wrapped and hard to hold and try to eat. Finally had to use a plate and Fork.

I came to this location today on my lunch break at about 12:30. Everything was fine until I noticed a toothpick in my food in the middle of eating it. I went back to get my FULL refund and the woman at the register almost tried to not give me the whole thing because of the "atm fee" this place is lucky I didn't call the health department because god knows where that toothpick could have came from.

So far, so good! Ordered carne asada super nachos and horchata in the drive-thru. Didn't wait long for a Friday night at 8p. Order smells delicious!!! Looking forward to tasting it at home. Hopefully it's good and gets tons of business so there's a close by spot to frequent in the neighborhood!! *Edit: nachos were decent, but lacked a little flavor. Salsa helped. Hubs thought chips needed salt, which probably would've helped with the overall flavor it lacked. Carne was very soft and tender, and plentiful. We both prefer cheese sauce over shredded cheese, but it was fine. It also needed more sour cream. Besides that, it was pretty filling and glad it was shared. Horchata was just alright, but not great. I might come back to try some other menu items.

NASTY AF!!!! ordered a "burrito" it came with MEAT and pico de gallo NO BEANS AND NO RICE FOR $12 dollars ....I anticipated to try this place before they were even opened, and it was a total fail ....The salsa looked old like it was packaged for days and sitting in the salsa container for WAY TOO LONG ...HOW THE F DOES A BURRITO DO NOT COMR WITH RICE AND BEANS? --Basically a taco rolled up ughhhh so annoyed right now.

We had pitchers of margaritas for the table, and I found that they were watery. I did not enjoy mine, so I stuck with water. My water glass was full the whole time, so I was grateful for that. I ordered the chicken fajitas. The chicken was prepared and seasoned perfectly. It was really good. My platter had mostly onions and a few peppers, so that was disappointing. I was missing the zucchini and guacamole; I think that would have added to the overall flavor. The corn tortillas were stale, so that was yuck. I have read that they are homemade (?) If they were homemade, ours were made the day before. They were definitely not fresh. People in our group ordered all kinds of entrees, including tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, and seemed to enjoy everything. Some enjoyed the fried ice cream and flan for dessert, too. Again, this is a great place for a group. If you are looking for good food, I might keep looking.

Complimentary corn tortilla chips, salsa, and refried bean dip with cheese. I loved the REFRIED BEAN DIP! I ordered the Steak a la Chicana. I didn't read or listen carefully enough that the skirt steak with sauteed onions and bell peppers are covered in Spanish sauce. The sauce is actually quite tasty with a little kick. I used it and the salsa to flavor the black beans. However, I really just wanted grilled steak. I should have ordered steak fajitas, a grilled steak burrito or quesadilla, or a carne asada plate. The Steak a la Chicana was a generous portion, which is definitely 2 meals for me. Cilantro rice wasn't anything special. The SWEET CORN TAMALITO is yummy comfort. Choice of beans: refried beans, black beans, or pinto beans. I suspect refried beans is the tastiest option. El Tapatio would be a great gathering place for friends and family. It's located on Sunrise Blvd in Citrus Heights near See's Candies and other restaurants.

The prices felt high for the quality and portions received. I ordered a carne asada burrito (rice, beans, meat, Pico, cheese) for $14.50. While the burrito was large, it was mostly rice and beans, and the carne asada itself was disappointing. The texture was closer to ground beef than the grilled steak flavor and consistency I was expecting. My husband ordered the three street taco plate with rice and beans for $16.50, choosing carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas. He had similar thoughts about the carne asada, and felt that both the al pastor and carnitas lacked seasoning and overall flavor. He also purchased a canned soda for $2.50, which added to what already felt like a pricey meal. I understand that restaurant costs have increased over the years, and I don't mind paying more when the food quality matches the price. However, between the lack of air conditioning, the mid food, and the overall value, we didn't feel the experience justified the cost. The service was friendly, which we appreciated, but with so many other local Mexican restaurants offering more flavorful food at similar price points, we don't see ourselves returning.
