As locals it had been a while since we were back at Cane and Table and the food was as creative and on point as we remember. However the server was another story. When we were seated the host kindly told us an automatic 20% would be added to the bill. Normally that is not an issue for us as we usually tip a minimum of 20% for fair service. However our server Lisa O clearly had an attitude. While ordering our drinks and appetizers we were clearly pressured to order our main courses even though we were not ready. We then hurried to comply. Then twice while eating our appetizers when it was obvious we were not finished or server asked if we were dine and stayed she was not trying to rush us which in fact she clearly did. Then halfway through our main courses I ordered another cocktail and a glass of wine for my wife. She waited to finish her dinner until the wine arrived and when it did not after a reasonable amount of time and I do mean reasonable, she asked the served to cancel the glass of wine and she did so in a dismissive manner. The worst part was when the bill arrived. The charge for the glass of wine was from removed but it was removed as a discount with the 20% service charge applied to the cancelled wine charge. When we pointed this out to the servrr there was no apology and within seconds she brought the correct bill and just about threw it on the table without saying a word. Again good was very very good but the attitude of our server was a big downer on what would have been an enjoyable evening. read more

Cane and Table was everything we wanted, needed and more. To celebrate a bachelorette weekend, a group of six girls and I made a reservation about a week in advance for a Thursday evening dinner at 6 PM. When we arrived, our vaccination cards were checked and we were brought to our gorgeous table in the back outdoor courtyard space. Our server was phenomenal, she walked us through the menu and recommended eating family style. This is my preferred way to dine always, I want to optimize the things I'm able to taste without getting too full so family style is always the preferred method for me, but others at the table are picky so they were hesitant. Since it came at our server's recommendation, we went for it. We ordered the crispy brussels and crab croquettas to start. For our mains we had the Arroz Con Pollo, Ropa Vieja, and a Cuban Roasted Pork dish. Everything was delicious, especially the chicken. The brussels were a hit, with two anti brussels sprouts eaters at the table. The cocktail menu was extensive, with lots of great tequila and mezcal options. Super cool place that was packed on a Sunday night. We asked our server what cocktails and dishes shouldn't be missed and her recommendations were spot on. Stopped in for lunch and found myself quite charmed. This is a quaint spot in the French Quarter oozing Caribbean flair. There is also a cute courtyard, though it was too cold to enjoy - staff told us there were no heat lamps at present. Enjoyed a cocktail suggested as a bartender's specialty -- the name eludes me but it had banana liquer and a spritz of lavender. Absolutely delicious. The Little Gem salad was a home run. The avocado ranch dressing was light, which was a nice change considering how many places will douse your salad in Ranch. Enjoyed the sweet plantains, though my husband thought they were too charred. You need to try the piña colada. It's literally one of the best I've ever had, so I'm guessing it's made with only top notch ingredients. It's also not sickening sweet like most piñas so you can drink more than 1 (is that a good thing? I think so!) I love C & T's ambiance, whether you're inside which makes you feel a little bit like you're in a swanky Pirates of the Caribbean situation or outside, with all the urban tropical vibes. Server made excellent suggestions, kept us watered, heard and immediately rushed over a fork when we dropped one (despite the restaurant being fairly noisy at the time). Cocktail: their take on a hurricane. Good, but not remarkable. Appetizers: crispy Brussels sprouts were more crunchy than crispy... much firmer and less roasted than expected, but still very tasty with a nice sauce and very generous portions. Heirloom tomatoes with onion, avocado and heart of palm were a nice contrast to the Brussels sprouts. Mains: Fried drum over jasmine rice and a tomatoey, medium heat curry sauce was well prepared. Could've used a vegetable like bell pepper, but was tasty. Coulotte steak was perfectly trimmed and seasoned, extremely flavorful (rivaling a good hanger steak) and exactly the requested temperature. Dessert: flan was thick, a little cheesecakey, and sprinkled with a little finishing salt -- an excellent addition I had never encountered before, giving it a salted caramel bite. Superb. I've always had the ham and cheese croquettas . We also had the C&T salad made with lettuce, thinly sliced cucumber and radish with nice and crunchy sourdough breadcrumbs in avocado ranch dressing. It was cooked to perfection. It was not salty. It was served with cubed yucca and avocado. My husband had the enchilada Camarones it had shrimp served on top of grits. I was not too crazy about the enchilada, but the shrimp was perfectly cooked and they were large. My daughter had chosen a dish from their coolinary menu. She had the gazpacho made with pureed Marcona almonds, avocado, avocado, drizzled with chili oil . It was nice and smooth light and creamy. Again, perfect for this hot weather it was refreshing. Visited on 4/14, with my family at 5pm when it opened. Immediately told about the mandatory service fee for any size of party. I questioned if a tip was discretionary, which apparently is a massive no-no at this place as word quickly spread around the staff, as we were treated with complete distain for our entire time there. Long wait to get water for the table for our children because the waitstaff were too busy having their start-of-shift shots of whiskey at the bar. Had one round of drinks and left. Said thank you politely to the female bartender, who laughed in my face. Service from all was so obnoxious and atrocious, the management should be ashamed of the staff. I don't know why it's taken me so long to get here after living here for a few years. I've been meaning to go for dinner, but we decided to go for brunch today. My friend and I both agreed that it was the best brunch we've ever had in New Orleans. First, there are options for vegetarians here. That alone makes the place worthwhile in a city/neighborhood that sorely lacks vegetarian options. The service was great from start to finish. Our server was Jassy. They gave enthusiastic recommendations and steered our choices--none of which were regretted. I tried their housemaid hurricane, which is nothing like the sugary, chemical garbage they sling on Bourbon Street. We also sampled a seasonal, strawberry cocktail that was absolutely divine. We had fried plantains as an appetizer. They were downright orgasmic. My friend had the chicken sandwich, which she loved. It was enormous. You lose the flavors of other other aspects of the plate. I wish I could've plated the meal for more balance of flavors because the base that was there was good. Our waitress was okay, when we decided to not get cocktails it seemed like she was annoyed with us for even being there. We got ribs and two of them were broken bones, shouldn't have been brought out like that in my opinion. (Ribs had twice the amount of cabbage that is pictured below on the tostones). Last note, the flan had flaky salt on top. Take that however you want. To me it's unnecessary. Hands down my favorite new restaurant in New Orleans! Our bartender recommended this spot when our old favorite was closed and the second we walked in we knew we were in for a treat! Our waitress (Kate) was one of the nicest people I have ever met. She gave us the recommendation to get the cauliflower as an app and it did not disappoint. The mole sauce it comes with is mindblowing. For drinks we had the Jamaica Queens which was a nice play on where we're from. It was delicious, smooth, and I could easily drink another. For entree we split the arroz con pollo. Kate informed us it was half a chicken so plenty for us to split. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the rice was amazing (and I'm not much of a rice person). We cleared the plate with no complaints. We were lucky to be seated next to a friendly couple who one of which is a fellow Yelper. We quickly made conversation with them and even tried the shrimp they had ordered (also delicious!). COVID-19 Vaccinated Review: We found this bar mentioned on a few "best of" lists regarding New Orleans cocktails, and it definitely did not disappoint. The "Flor de Oaxaca" is a delightfully refreshing hibiscus-infused mezcal drink. Five stars. My boyfriend, a dedicated whiskey afficionado, even ordered one of these as his last drink there after taking a sip of mine. The "Jamaica Queens" is a wonderfully spiced riff on an Old Fashioned. My boyfriend said he would have ordered two, but he actually got two with one because the bartender accidentally made a double, and our waiter kindly brought both of them to the table. The "Port Decatur" was phenomenally well-balanced...sort of like a New York Sour, but with a little je-ne-sais-quos factor likely coming from the Herbsaint and use of port instead of red wine. We both loved this one. The "Queen of the Desert" might have been my favorite cocktail in all of New Orleans on this trip. I'd never had tequila paired with a shrub, which gave the drink a slightly sour taste that was nicely balanced with a hint of jalapeno and shavings of Persian black lime. Seriously, I'm still thinking about this cocktail days later. Do not miss it. (Although, FWIW, my boyfriend didn't like the vinegary hint of the shrub...I guess it's not for everyone.) I ended with a Miami Vice, the classic combination of pina colada and strawberry daiquiri. The flavors were definitely fresh but not super strong. Maybe my palate has just been ruined by fake flavorings...ha...it just wasn't what I expected/wanted from a Miami Vice. (Yeah, yeah, I know.) I also would have preferred a more even layering or swirling of the two ingredients, as with the strawberry daiquiri sitting on top, it was hard to get a taste of both at once. The interior here is nothing special, so sit in the courtyard if you can, but even if the courtyard is full, don't walk away. We'll probably make reservations next time to ensure courtyard seating. Cane and Table holds a very special place for me and my husband as we hosted our wedding reception here in December! This was the very best decision we could have made. Special shoutout to Lisa who handled our dozens of emails and calls with patience, creativity, and enthusiasm. I know this isn't a classic "wedding venue" but for us it was perfect. We wanted to avoid any place that was too formal or stuffy but wanted to take care of our guests with amazing cocktails and food that had a lot of personality and flavor. It was also tough to find venues that weren't "built" to host a couple hundred people; and we wanted this party to feel like an amazing night out at a bar- just crowded enough, great music, and a bit rowdy. The size of this space couldn't have been better for our group of 55 and it needed no additional decor as it has rustic, tropical charm in abundance. The food and drinks were the "best I've ever had at a wedding" (quoting our photographer, who does high end weddings all over New Orleans). And I have to agree. The food and drinks were absolutely amazing and just as on point as when we visited for our tasting. The staff had a blast with us and helped everyone feel welcome and taken care of. We can't wait to come back in the future. I recommend a daquiri to start- and do NOT miss the tuna tartare, that was our favorite (though the shrimp and yucca are also amazing). As a tourist, we had good bloody mary's, the pork skins were great, the Cuban Hammer was awfully dry and tasteless, and never order the yucca fries....yucky! The drum, curry, crawfish was very good. If you're not aware there is a Service Charge of 20% per tab which is fine, but when they do not bring a printed bill to your table and bring the automatic machine, the 1st thing it does is say how much would you like to tip and starts at 20%. We made reservations, but it was a rainy Monday night, and there were plenty of available tables. Since we went specifically for their happy hour, we decided to just hang out at the bar. The two bartenders were friendly and efficient, and in no time at all I was set up with a $6 happy hour drink of a lime daiquiri (old-style, not frozen). Perfect. We then decided to order some snacks, and I promise you - it is worth a visit just for the incredible fresh pork skins sprinkled with cane syrup and curry spices. I don't even LIKE pork skins, and these were amazing. After such a successful start we moved on to the recommended ribs coated in a pepper jelly. These were like meat candy. I wanted to cry when my share of the ribs (2 ribs) was gone. Next to a light bite of elotes - shucked corn with aoili, cotija, and cilantro. It was fresh, crunchy, and flavorful. Finally dessert, which was actually the only disappointment of the night. Tres leches cake made with pound cake sprinkled with caramel. I know, I know, I can't compare it to the amazing tres leches cakes found in Tampa, but still, they rocked everything else, so I had high hopes. You order your food when you get to the door so you don't have to have face a waiter. They have cards on the table that flip to green or red (Green if you need a waiter), which limits the amount of time you have to speak with staff. The staff kept their mask on.
