My friends and I were touring Deep Ellum, we stopped in this restaurant to dodge the rain, we were hungry. The hostess immediately gave us attitude the once over and sat us next to the bathrooms in which we could smell. It was so bad the sever also kept his distance and because we ordered waters to drink it furthered the bad service. When we received our pizza it was luke warm and gummy. It was as if the cook flashed the pizza and didn't make sure It was cooked all the way through. We were treated as if the restaurant really didn't want our business. We won't come back. read more

Just got back from trying this place out. First of all the parking is extremely limited. They have a small lot a couple of doors down across the street from Cane Rosso that offers free parking. You'll be lucky if you find a spot there. Right next to that lot, separated by a chain ling fence, is a pay lot ($5). We got lucky and pulled in as some one was leaving. Once parked we paid at the booth and walked less than half a block to the restaurant. We walk in and are immediately greeted with a smile from the hostess which sits us at the bar. From these seats we have a great view of the dough being tossed, prepared and being put in the wood burning oven. One drawback from sitting in the main isle of the bar was the walk way. It was to small for there to be seats on both sided of the isle and i kept getting bumped every five minutes. It took the bartender about ten minutes to come over and ask what we wanted to drink. He read off the specials and asked if we wanted an appetizer. We agreed on the half House Salad and ordered the Margherita pizza (Italian Tomatoes, Mozzarella and basil) We received the salad within ten minutes and the pizza in 20. The salad was very delicious. I'm not much of a salad guy but i enjoyed it. The pizza was amazing, the complete opposite from the ones you get a chain pizza places. The slices are small and thin. I ate half the pizza by myself . The bartender was on top of the drinks the entire time i was there. My glass didn't sit empty for more than two minutes before another fresh coke was brought to me. He even replaced a watered down coke after i mentioned it my girlfriend. He offered a S'mores Calzone at the end of the meal but we declined. All in all i thoroughly enjoyed Cane Rosso's, the best pizza I've had in a long time. For the salad, pizza and two drinks the total came out to $17, not bad for lunch. The previous week we went to another pizza place in Arlington and spent 25 for just the pizza and two cokes. So well worth the drive to Deep Ellum. read more

One of the best places to grab a slice of authentic Neapolitan pizza. Their menu states that they use imported double 0 flour, san marzano tomatoes and cook it in a 900 degree oven in about a minute. The pizza is delicious but do not chow it down like a hungry man. Take time to savor it. This pizza is a treat. The focaccia bread my bros and I ordered was insanely food. Absolutely fantastic true Italian style pizza. We've been on a hunt for pizza that reminds us of Italy and we've found it! The dough has a lovely mild flavor to it. It's ultra thin but still substantial to the toppings. The choice of cheese and toppings are clearly high quality. We got "the bastard" pizza that's on the secret menu, but I am positive any pizza you might order on the menu would be delicious. In fact, the night we went in was the same day the Ferrari Formula 1 team won second place in the Austin race, and part of their official entourage had stopped here for dinner. This place holds itself up to be among the best pizza places in DFW, but it ultimately fails to match that expectations. At best this is the 6th best pizza place in DFW and is a hard pass recommendation for me. The crust was thin, yet incredibly soggy. They were out of ingredients for our pizza, and we were not told about this until after the rest of our table was given their orders and had started eating. I feel that sometime in the 35min between ordering and the rest of the table receiving their plates that would have been enough time to determine the missing ingredients. My husband decided to order a pizza on his way home from work. I've heard so many good things about Cane Rosso so I decided to give it a try. I called to place an order so my husband could pick it up but they don't do call ahead orders. Deep Ellen is super busy and I can only imagine with the popularity of this restaurant how packed it is, I'm not sure why they don't take call ahead orders. Anyway, he went in and placed the order. Visiting Dallas for a weekend with a large group. Cane Rosso was our Saturday brunch stop because it's one on my daughters favorite place. They had a large table ready for us in a quite area. Service was timely and keep our drinks filled. The salad was awesome. The lettuce seemed to be garden fresh leaves. The pizza hand tossed and baked in a wood brick oven. Perfect.... the only negative thing I can think of is; when they brought our food they just set it down in front of who ever. read more

After hearing about this place over and over, I decided to venture there and get a pizza to celebrate the start of my long awaited weekend. Not the easiest location to find, but I figured it out eventually. And when I got home, I have to say that I was disappointed. The crust and ingredients were top notch, mind you. But I was surprised how sparingly they were used. There wasn't a lot of cheese, which is ok as I think that was by design so it doesn't overwhelm everything else. But what I was surprised at was the one topping I ordered, or lack thereof. There was barely any sausage on that pizza. It might as well been a cheese pizza with some sausage accidentally sprinkled on there. I'll give them another shot sometime, but as of now I am not impressed. read more

Ended up going for a girls brunch. We all (group of 5 girls) enjoyed our visit here. They had $1 mimosas and some pretty tasty pizza! It's really cool the way that they cook the pizza. Our waitress told us that they cook the pizza at 900 degrees for 90 seconds. The drinks were good and the food was even better. The only issue was that there are very few TVs that aren't very visible from several areas of the restaurant. We were there on a Sunday afternoon (and I am a big cowboys fan) so we ended up having to leave and go somewhere that we could watch the game at. So delicious. We popped in after a busy Sunday of running errands. It was fun to sit at the bar and watch them work their magic. We ordered their off menu specialty of honey bastard and an italian sandwich. Both were delicious and the sandwich was so large I had some leftover for lunch the next day. The pizza...oh my... I loved the fresh dough, slightly charred on the outside, chewy on the inside. The combination of the meats with the bacon jam and honey was out of the world and I usually favor more tomato based pies. I did see a fair amount of takeout orders, which I would caution against. At about the 10 minute mark, our pizza just wasn't as good. It really needs to be consumed quickly. I'm docking a star because my 8 dollar cocktail was incredibly weak. I had a lot of recommendations that this was the place to go for a good Neapolitan pizza. When we got there they let us know that the wait time was about an hour, so we went to look at some shops down the street. It only ended up being about a 25 minute wait which was nice. We started with fried nuggz which were square mozzarella sticks and they were dang good. Crispy breading on the outside and cheesy deliciousness on the inside. The pizzas we got were the honey bastard and here comes treble. The honey bastard is one of my favorite pizzas ever now. I loved how unique it was with the sweet/spicy combination of the habanero honey. Everyone should order this when they come. We weren't as crazy about here comes treble. The rabe was too bitter for me. Arugula is about as bitter as I like to go on my pizza. I will definitely try Cane Rosso again and will probably get the white pizza with prosciutto and arugula next time! Had it delivered by Uber Eats (great fast service) and was delighted!!! I ordered the Honey Bastard Pizza. 14" was just right even though I could have eaten two of them because it was so good! I was worried the habanero honey would be too hot. It was perfect for me. My favorite pizza in years!!!! My wife ordered the baked penne bolo and loved it too! My friends, the pizza gods have smiled down upon our fair city. Cane Rosso unequivocally produces some of the finest pizza I have ever put in my mouth. This place is taking the Dallas pizza scene by storm, and though I fear this review may only make it even more difficult to procure a prized place at the feet of a pizza master, this place deserves every word of praise I can give. Jay Jerrier is certified by the Association Verace Pizza Napoletana, a distinction held by only a handful of pizza establishments around the country, of which only 2 others operate in Texas (another being Cavalli in Irving). To some skeptics, this may just sound like a flowery accolade with little bearing on the quality of the pizza, however, in my mind VPN certification means quality, attention to detail, and a true passion for your product. The quality of the ingredients is what separates this pizza from any other I have had. In it's purest form, great pizza comes down to 3 things: cheese, sauce, crust. Cane Rosso easily excels in each of these three categories. The cheese is mozzarella (fior di latte) hand-pulled in house daily from fresh mozzarella curd. No part-skim or low moisture garbage here. Simply blissful cheese, used in the perfect ratios for each pie. The sauce is also made daily from hand-crushed San Marzano tomatoes. The sauce is naturally sweet and light, without the overly salty red mush you would find in a bottle of Prego or atop a Pizza Hut pie. The dough is also made in-house from imported Italian flour. The oven reaches a blazing 900 degrees, exactly what you want in order to cook a pizza quickly, giving it a perfectly crisp exterior and soft, chewy interior. We first sampled the Margherita, the great equalizer among Neapolitan Pizza, topped simply with cheese, sauce, and basil. In a word, superb. Every bite, from beginning to end was like the Macy's Day parade in my mouth. We did not stop there though. The waiter recommended we try anything with the "soppresata picante," which is similar to pepperoni (however, that's kinda like saying a filet mignon is like a Slim-Jim). Bless that man. We got the Luana with soppreseta and sausage. Both meats are divine. Literally, wifey and I were stunned by what we were eating. Stunned. Like a taser to the tongue. With the quality and attention to detail that this place puts into its pizza, it is inevitable that business will boom. Go early, go soon, while you can still get a seat. Mmmmmmmmmmammamia - these pies are yummy. After hearing/reading such glorious things about their pizza, how could I not try this place as soon as my chaotic schedule allowed me. Let's kick it off by describing their atmosphere. Their clientele and staff aligns perfectly with the eclectic Deep Ellum vibe. I can't imagine a more perfect location for their brand new store front. The aesthetics are bold and simple -- very 'less is more' -- consisting of dark, deep wood for the tables and wall paneling, and an oversize pig painted on the back wall mapping out where are all the cuts of pork are on the pig. Yes, one might imagine this being a little gnarly, but it is actually done in a very tastefully humorous, kinda kitschy way. The bar lines the whole west side of the building where you will find the owner, Jay, prepping and cooking the pizzas in the wood fired oven. My favorite quirk is his mac laptop he always has out while he is cooking. What a multitasker! On to the grub. My friend and I shared their $20 lunch special, which is so hard to believe. A decent sized pizza, a large salad and a alcoholic drink for each of you for only 20 bones just made it taste that much better. I got another drink just so I had a reason to pay more money. I didn't feel right only paying $20, especially considering the quality of the pizza. We got the Emma - mozzarella, basil and Jimmy's Italian sausage. UH. MUR. GURD - the mozzarella was perfectly cooked: not too melted but melted enough. No ingredient was overshadowed. I could taste the basil (yum), the mozzarella (yum) and the sausage (YUM!) equally. Another plus was a certain flavor I couldn't put my finger on - the pizza had an undertone of sweetness to it. That might sound strange, but it sure as hell didn't taste strange. The salad mista was fresh and perfectly packed with toppings and dressing. The sangria was delightful with fresh berries and the server was so attentive and nice! My employer will occasionally spring for pizza and the masses go nuts. There is a palpable buzz all morning and when it arrives folks sprint down the hall with tongues dragging on the floor. I am not one of those people! I am not one of those weird people who hates pizza, however, but I don't think it is magic, either. Therefore, I approached my trip to Dallas' most talked about pizza place with trepidation. I was expecting two hour waits, hipster/rude waiters and a horrible atmosphere. Happily, I was wrong on every count. My wife and I visited on Thursday and arrived to find a half-filled room. Better yet, the break in temperatures afforded us an opportunity to truly enjoy their patio. If you can get past the droning freeway noise, it is really awesome. Our waiter was efficient and helpful. The selection of pizza extensive. Jimmy's sausage!! All huge plusses! These thin crust pizzas have a tangy sauce, just the right proportion of cheese and toppings and don't fill you up too badly. In fact we split one and a Caesar salad. Everything was just right........except a few minor point,s which is the reason for 4 stars. The waiter assured us that the mild sausage would not be spicy, so either they gave us the hot version or screwed up, plus that salad needs some dressing. I appreciate that it was not drenched but maybe an extra ounce would work. Anyway, I enjoyed this meal quite a bit. Not sure that I would ever wait 2 hours but certainly will look them up again when I am in the neighborhood. read more

I wanted my 300th review to be something smashing, so enter Cane Rosso. With all of the 5 star reviews, I knew it would be a divine experience worthy of its placement. Well...not so much. At 5:30pm on a Thursday, I arrived at Chocolate Angel. I was quickly greeted and seated. The restaurant was not crowded yet (thank goodness there were no annoying children as mentioned in other reviews). I ordered the Gus (mushrooms, sausage, cheese) and it arrived super fast. That is when the disappointment set in. I'm just not a fan of this pizza style. (I did not love Cavalli either.) There were maybe 4-6 mushroom slices on my whole pizza. Not every slice contained cheese or sausage. The sauce was flavorless and the crust was fine, but nothing rave-worthy. I cannot buy into the hype. I don't care how 'gourmet' something is if the result is a sparsely topped pizza that lacks much flavor. The cheese may be spectacular, but there is not enough on there to tell. I love that they use Jimmy's sausage, but Bolsa puts more of it on their pizza (and is therefore preferred). As I was dining, I felt EcoGuilt about the costly carbon footprint this meal provided with its specialty ingredients being imported from Italy. As a locavore, I'm not a fan of importing tomatoes and pizza flour. We hear tomato and automatically think 'Italy,' but people forget that tomatoes are a 'New World' food that didn't hit Italy until the 16th century (via the Spanish). We grow lovely tomatoes here, so I don't get why these imported ones are so significant. I guess my taste in pizza is rather plebeian, although I've never thought of my palate in such terms. I prefer Fireside Pies, Enos, and Bolsa...and I appreciate their incorporation of LOCAL/SEASONAL ingredients. It is important to me. read more

Apparently Cane Rosso has a secret menu. And the only item I know on the secret menu is the Honey Badger. The Honey Badger doesn't give a shit if you wrinkle your nose at it and say "that sounds like it would taste weird," when you find out it's a pizza with mozzarella, basil, prosciutto, and a habanero-honey glaze. It throws you some attitude and says, "What, are you a food critic? No? Then shut up and just try me." I'm sorry, Honey Badger pizza. I was wrong to judge you.
