Cappys Cafe is a nostalgic diner in Newport Beach with classic breakfast and lunch options. We came on a Sunday and unfortunately had a super long wait for our food. We ordered and it took nearly an hour to receive our food. They were busy, but I would have loved for our waitress to update us or come by the table during that time - we did need to flag her down. The food was great once we got it. We tried the bagel breakfast sandwich, protein pancakes, build your own omelette, and the sausage skillet. The breakfast sandwich was absolutely massive! Actually, all of the portions were pretty big, enough to share between two people for sure.

Whenever I visit my friends in Orange County, we always have lunch at Cappys Cafe. And, we always order the same thing , the prime rib melt even though their breakfasts look delicious! This time it was delicious as always, but skimpy on the Swiss cheese. The meat was piled high and tender. You have a choice of several sides to go with it to include fries, onion rings, potato salad, and cottage cheese. I chose onion rings and they were delicious! And, no extra charge for them. Service is very fry. I definitely will be back!

Wild! This is a great spot. Every single table occupied and we got great service. Foot was huge proportions. The sweet cinnamon roll dish that everyone brags about is a must try. Coffee is good too.

Roadside joint recommended by local friends so we met them there! Somewhat busy but we're able to snag a table immediately, score! Chose the breakfast burrito, selected chorizo for the meat, and asked for crispy hash browns. Good tortilla, fillings, and salsa, but they forgot the crispy potatoes, so the burrito was all one consistency.. Ambiance is roadside diner, service was friendly and prompt, and prices are in line with the area.

Stopped into Cappys Cafe on a Friday morning. They're a popular spot so it was busy but that's to be expected for brunch. They have a great menu with plenty of options and I like how they have smaller portion plates available if you aren't in the mood for a huge meal. I ordered the grilled fish taco plate. My boyfriend ordered pancakes, two eggs, and bacon. The portions are huge here so come hungry. The food was tasty and the quality was good. The service was great. The hostesses and servers were all friendly and moved quickly.

Love love love Cappys! Friendly service, yummy food, and so many different menu options. Cappys gets pretty busy, but they have plenty of seating so it goes by quick. Love everything from their breakfast burrito, omelettes and pancakes. You really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Would definitely recommend if youre in Newport!

Decided to stop here for brunch on our drive and was not disappointed. There is plenty of parking towards the back of the restaurant and we were seated quickly on the patio. We ordered the fish and chips, and the cinnamon roll French toast. The fish and chips were good, but not the best I've had (I prefer crispy) and the French toast was really good! Service was friendly and attentive, and overall the restaurant gave off casual diner vibes. Worth the visit!

The wife and I were looking for a brunch spot near our hotel, so we did what so many folks do. We turned to Yelp, found a place with strong reviews, and decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. We were seated promptly, and the service that followed was nothing short of exceptional. The staff was attentive, checking in just the right amount, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Now, the food was outstanding. Well seasoned and full of flavor. In fact, it was so good I found myself wondering about the chef, because you could taste some culture in every bite. What stood out most, though, was how the entire experience lived up to its promise: fresh, local, and friendly.

Not sure what to make of this place. It was buzzy on a Monday, a holiday, at lunch. It took three times to get a server to get our order. Though there were many servers milling around. The Fish and Chips was average, hoping for a crispier fish wrapper on the outside. The fish was dry. The chips were dry as well. The Cobbs Salad was unexciting.

I would say that this is my favorite diner in Newport Beach. I say diner because it is like a traditional American diner, not so much a retro diner. It's located on beautiful 101 in North Newport Beach. Very close to the HB border. Parking is really easy, they have a free lot attached on both sides of the restaurant. Inside is also very large with two different dining areas, as well as many different type of seating options from booth, to table, to counter. The menu is also awesome, it has a lot of unique items on it and it's the sort of place where you can get something new each time. Our server was very polite but there was a bit of a delay getting our food items out, but it was very busy when we stopped in for Saturday morning brunch. The food quality and taste here really beats out the competition. Everything that we ordered was honestly fantastic. I ordered the Seafood Benny with Wild Caught Crab Meat and switched to the thick cut sourdough toast as the bottom, which I would recommend. The crab was fresh, the hollandaise had great flavor, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I honestly loved every bit of this dish and would highly recommend ordering it. I am eager to stop in again next time I am down in the OC area.

Pancake combo with sausage patty. Awesome! I like their pancakes because it seems that they put some cornmeal in them.
Simon K.

I like their pancakes, it's like they put some cornmeal in them. Ordering a single pancake on the side is plenty, as they're big and thick. The pancake combo comes with 3 of them. I also tried their sausage patty. In a good way it reminds me of the McDonald's sausage patty. I love it!

Saw a tiktok the other day and thought I need to try this place. I love breakfast and this quaint little restaurant did not disappoint. Super cute , nice indoor and outdoor seating. I tried the ham scramble and it was big. If you are a small eater you could definitely share this. The sourdough toast was a generous size and just lightly toasted (exactly how I like it). A big plus, they have orange marmalade I will definitely be bringing my friends and family here. Remember to do random acts of kindness as it will make everyone feel wonderful. Happy Yelping, please follow me for more awesome reviews

One of the BEST cafes I've been to. The service was phenomenal from the host to Amanda (our server). The ambiance was nice and relaxing and the food was so good! One of my new favorite spots

Chicken Fajita Omelette, with cheese , guacamole , sour cream, pico, and chill on top. Home style potatoes.

Great food! Parking is the only downside of this place. French toast and eggs were delicious. I love the homemade salsa as well.

They are extremely well traveled and have been to the finest restaurants around the world and they absolutely loved it. They're not easy to impress. I'm talking about the Costa Mesa location, the outside patio is awesome and inside is some combo of retro plus old Newport plus new Newport plus old and new Costa Mesa. It's cool and thought out. Service was well on point. The food, though, was incredible. I had the three different enchilada combo that was out of this world, and my wife had some healthy protein bowl that was so light and so flavorful, it was just incredible.

* Who: partner & I * What: late brunch…read more* When: Saturday around 1:30pm * Why: missed our class & decided on a pick-us-up haha * Space/Decor: outdoor patio is of decent size & indoor was bigger than anticipated. The style gave retro diner vibe with earthy tones. Everything was pretty clean, & it wasn't overly decorated to where it felt cluttered. * Service: was good. We were a walk up & seating immediate in a partial booth/chai. It took a minute after we got seated to have the waiter bring water, but after that he was pretty attentive, in addition to being knowledgeable about the menu. * Food: surprisingly good on my end. We started with a half order or truffle Parmesan fries, which ended up being shoe string, & were well coated/flavored. I also ordered the sangria which was OK, while the BF got the chai espresso martini which he liked. I opted for the French Toast and he got the Short Rib Breakfast Tostada. I liked my FT as it was extra fluffy, with the syrup on the side. The BF liked his tostada but I think he preferred refried beans over black beans. * Final Thoughts: cute place with a non-overwhelming menu with a mix of classic & new dishes. Quality is decent, though price may be a little higher than need be. Would recommend & would return though not running back either. * Final Grade: B+ or 8.5/10

It took a minute to locate the restaurant and figure out parking, but once we arrived at the door, the experience was first-class from beginning to end. The hostess was charming and welcoming, the staff kept our waters filled and the table spotless, and our server, Juan, was outstanding. His knowledge of the menu, detailed descriptions, and personal recommendations made ordering easy and built our anticipation for every dish. We started by sharing the beet salad and Chicken Tinga Empanadas with the Gringo Killer Sauce. The beet salad was fresh and beautifully balanced, while the empanadas were packed with rich, savory flavor. The Gringo Killer Sauce added a bold kick that made them especially memorable. My wife ordered the wedge salad, my daughter chose the Grilled Octopus Al Pastor, and I had the 8 oz Picanha special. Every dish was exceptional. The octopus was a creative and flavorful take on al pastor, and the Picanha special was perfectly cooked, tender and was an absolute standout. Everything was so impressive that I sent my compliments to the chef and was fortunate enough to meet Chef Jackie personally. Then came dessert. Juan described a peach cobbler special that immediately had my mouth watering, while my daughter ordered the Espresso Crème Brûlée. Juan returned to our table with three plates and spoons and informed me that Chef Jackie has recommended her specialty. I did not argue, Chef knows best. She surprised me by sending out something different: a slice of Baklava Cheesecake accompanied by a scoop of house-made peach cobbler ice cream. Now, I have eaten some outstanding cheesecakes all around the world, but this Baklava Cheesecake was on an entirely different level. It was rich, layered, perfectly textured and flaky, and so unbelievably delicious that I nearly licked the plate clean. The house-made peach cobbler ice cream was equally impressive--light and creamy, yet captured the full peach cobbler flavor. The Espresso Crème Brûlée was also beautifully executed, with a crisp caramelized sugar shell and a deep, smooth coffee-flavored custard. My daughter ate half of hers before turning her attention to the cheesecake, and she does not even like cheesecake. That alone should tell you how special it was. I live three hours away, but I will absolutely be making the drive back. Lemon & Thyme delivers exceptional food, thoughtful hospitality, creative dishes, and the kind of personal service that turns a meal into a lasting memory. This is my new favorite restaurant!!! Do yourself a favor and make the trip to Lemon & Thyme. Ask for Juan, trust Chef Jackie, and do not leave without desert.
