Disappointing, I ordered breakfast from here through one of the delivery apps. Ordered chicken fried steak. I open the container ready to eat and see I have a dry slab of chicken fried steak , no gravy in sight, along with a side of bread without butter or jam in sight. How am I suppose to eat this? We were just passing though and found this gem. It's a locals spot for Sunday bottomless mimosas and so we thought we'd give it a try. We ordered the NY steak and eggs and the country fried steak. Both were absolutely fantastic. We were in the overflow tent in the parking lot. You get a sense of the community eating here on a Sunday. There are families, babies, small dogs and a table of people in it to win it with the bottomless mimosas. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend stoping here for breakfast if you are passing though. read more

It has been a few weeks since we visited our favorite spot and so we got our family together to get a late breakfast on a Saturday. As usual it was packed but we were seated pretty quickly, we enjoy sitting outside so that was nice. The food is always satisfactory and this time it was as well...the only difference was the service. Not sure if there's a change in staff as some of the usual faces weren't at the outdoor seating area but the team we had outside was not the same level of service we always appreciated. They were friendly but it took a long time to get them to check on us, our food took a lot longer to get than usual and at the end of the meal one of the kiddos were still hungry so we ordered another side of eggs and that took several minutes to get an egg which was cold by the time we received it. Overall, disappointing as we love the food but more so the service but this time the service lacked and the food took way too long (which is why it was a bit cold when we got our meal). Likely won't be back for a while as we'll now try other local brunch spots. read more

Unbelievablely, this was my first time here! This place is a Newport institution. Yet somehow I've never been. I love a good breakfast, and Cappy's serves it ALL DAY! I had a great breakfast burrito. Very generous with the filling and meat, tortilla was soft and warm. Came with just a little cup of salsa, nothing else on the side, no garnish, no orange slice, nothing. This is a no frills kind of place where you can get a hearty serving (I only finished half) and Bloody Marys at 6:30am. Service was okay... Not very attentive on the coffee refills (at over 3 bucks for a cup, BTW) and the check took a while. But I'm glad we came early because the lot was full and there was a wait to be seated when we left. Guess everyone agrees about Cappy's food! read more

Such a cute little place with the loveliest service! I came here around 9:30am and was immediately seated by the most attentive host. This man really never let our coffee mugs empty! If you're staying at the Newport Channel Inn, Cappy's is just a short walk away. My hubby and I knew we would have breakfast here during our weekend stay at Newport Beach, but we ended up having lunch here too the day before. I'm glad we did. We were seated as soon as we walked in kind of close to the bar. For lunch I had the Turkey/avocado/lettuce/cucumber wrap in a flour tortilla with super hot, fresh fries & small glass of apple juice. There was a slight hint of honey mustard and mayo, but not too much. The portions were fairly large--I couldn't even come close to finishing all of mine. A little while later, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend met up with us. They already had lunch, but both had some Bloody Marys. They said they were pretty good. For breakfast the next day after we combed the beach for a few shells, I ordered the French toast with one piece of sausage and a scrambled egg. I wasn't crazy about the French toast, but I ate all of it. I'm almost certain that the French toast was wheat instead of white which I dislike, so I practically drenched them in syrup. The waitresses were excellent... always making sure we had hot coffee in our cups. The assortment of condiments at our table were greatly appreciated. The music is always playing loud outside, but is not too loud inside. Bathroom was very clean. I loved all the colorful oceanic paintings in and outside of the cafe. The food is positively amazing. I got the the sausage burrito, which was hugggeeeee and flavorful. Service was a little slow, but I didn't subtract any stars because they did the best they could with everything going on. We were sitting there for about 20-30 minutes with absolutely no server in site, lol more like no eye contact keep walking, I'm busy kind of feel. Lucky, Matt saw us sitting there for a long time and stepped in to help us out with some drinks. My dad needs his coffee in the morning, just sayin'! I have lived in the area for 10+ years now and it was finally time to check out Cappys. Great vibe, good food, portions and friendly service. My son accidently spilled water on his pancakes ( host gave him a large cup of water) and I asked the server if we could get them replaced. After several minutes the pancakes were finally replaced. When I got the bill, I noticed I was charged $6 for the replaced pancake. One Mickey Mouse pancake equal $6... really. You can buy a whole Costco bag of pancake mix for $6. I have worked in the restaurant field for 6 years and we would never charge a guest to replace food that was accidently messed up by a child. Not a great customer service experience with that.
