TLDR; This place knowingly sells faulty equipment without telling you & promises a "lifetime warranty on all products AND labor" that is not true. Asst manager Johnny has MAJOR temper problems & should be fired. I've debated writing this review for awhile, but here goes the full story. Initially, everyone here was very friendly. My husband and I came in a couple of days before christmas 2024 to get a new pair of front speakers and apple car play installed for his older car. This was his christmas gift I saved up for to get for him. Staff seemed great, they helped us pick out a wireless apple carplay setup/answered all questions we had. I bring the car in, install was done in 3hrs next morning, and everything seemed great. I specifically asked about the lifetime warranty they promised & that in the case we had any issues with the head unit/speakers, if they would fix for free in the warranty. I was reassured that they would. Fast forward a couple days, the wireless apple car play is glitching out when connected to my husband's iphone 16. It repeatedly cuts out and the apple car play continues to crash. Map apps Waze & Apple Maps both are glitchy. The actual radio and radio connection on the car play is fine. I tell my husband no worries, we have a lifetime warranty. No biggie, right? Wrong. My husband calls the next morning, explaining what's going on & asking when we can get it fixed. Whoever he spoke with says it "just happens" with these wireless units. When pushed further, he explains that the wireless carplay units (that I spent extra $ on, instead of the cheaper wired one) can't keep up with iphone 16's & they do not have any wireless units without this issue. Husband asks them why they didn't tell us this when we bought it, as the wireless costs more, and the guy said "they wouldn't make much of a profit if we told everyone the truth". Uh...what? The kicker is, I would have bought a simple bluetooth radio instead of carplay, but I wanted to splurge on him. If they told me about the wireless carplay issues, I would have still spent $ there & got him the less complicated radio or wired. But now, I'm upset, because you just lied straight to my face to get 750$ out of me. Additionally, the lifetime warranty they claim does not cover labor and it would be a few hundred dollars to replace the unit. The only recommended way to "maybe" get rid of the issue is to use the unit with a wire. A few hours later, I call back to confirm what they had told him. I speak to Johnny (I believe is his name, black hair, skinny, he is the assistant manager), ask about the warranty, & ask why I was told one thing but it was not true. He starts fumbling with a lie, telling me that the unit doesn't work wirelessly because the satellite connections are bad and it's a problem with the radio. I (very calmly) say, OK, well you guys knowingly sold us a unit that is faulty. He starts getting aggressive, saying they have no idea that the units do this. I tell him what his colleague told my husband earlier, & he cuts me off & starts asking "what do I expect them to do about it?" I ask for them to fix/replace or at least a refund for the difference of wired vs wireless unit. He starts YELLING at me and says "it's LITERALLY only a 50$ difference" and keeps repeating that over & over as I say ok fine we can just do that. I explain I really am not trying to argue, (Like, I'm someone who is scared to send their food back lol) & explain how I had to save months for this, & he continues to yell & mock me over the 50$. It's not even about the 50$ atp, but I just say ok thanks we will be in and hang up. Husband goes in for refund & to explain rudeness of "Johnny", & main manager has NO idea what husband is talking about. Manager "has to pull the refund from another ticket since they don't have the funds to give him now & to come back later". No apology about asst manager. Later comes, we finally get a refund. I appreciate the "refund", but the disrespect, lies & unprofessionalism here is INSANE. DO NOT go here. read more

Staff are very friendly that's why it's 2 stars and not 1. I have a 2011 civic so an older car right - and i have slowly been rebuilding my speaker system in it and making it much more powerful than a basic OEM replacement. Car toys was the first place i found that works with car audio so i naturally went there. what i did not expect is the $3,000 nightmare that has followed I first went in probably around May of this year. I simply had the stock door speakers and tweeters replaced. When i told them this is what my goal was they showed me a product - the Alpine door speaker and tweeter combo. I was under the impression that it was not just an OEM equivalent but rather an aftermarket upgrade, after all it was $200 something. I basically was scammed. They are simply awful speakers. And after the install which i later realized i could have done myself in an hour vs $300 and 4 hours it took them i was really expecting something nice. I was wrong. The speakers blew out within about 3-4 weeks. I wasn't blasting my music just playing it at a normal volume. This shouldn't happen. When i went back in i learned i didn't buy a warranty (why would i need a warranty for some lemons is beyond me but oh well such is life) So i decided to bite the bullet. About a month later so June-ish I had finally gotten my subs in the mail. 2 Skar 8 inch subs and a 800rms amp. I was really excited. My buddy was going to do the install for $100 vs their rate of anywhere from $600-1200. I then learned I didn't have a head unit or an adapter. So i went back to car toys. I was sold an LCI-pro2 which is basically an adapter for an OEM head-unit. this was about $160. I feel immensely stupid because a plain head unit without a screen would have been the same price. I would have loved it if they told me that. Then my amp stopped working at the beginning of this month. I wasn't sure why as again i'm still new to car audio. I went to car toys hoping to find something out and buy a new amp. I left my car with them for about 5 hours, and thought i was going to be getting a kicker amp. I got a call from them and was told my current Skar amp was overheating since the subs i had run at 1-0.5ohms which the amp was not meant for. Okay cool so that's why it would go into protect mode and over heat. Again my plan was to get a new amp for about $450-500 with the install. I was told if i got these Kicker 10" dual subs my amp would run it! i told them how much would it be they said same price turns out it wasn't. cost me a whole $200 more. Well that was 3 weeks ago. again my amp seems to have broken. I'm mad because i don't have my old subs anymore as i sold them and they sounded better. My new subs don't work one of them seems to be blown out somehow and my amp is again going into protect mode. While not all of the money that's gone into my system was spent at car toys, a whole lot of it was. I'm probably just under 3k deep into this build and it sucks. None of it works. I wish i had gone somewhere that didn't sell me trash with insane install pricing and also knew what they were talking about. My subs that i just bought suck sound worse and don't work. My amp is fried. My door speakers are blown. And i still have a stock head unit. Overall car toys seems great to get windows tinted and maybe get your car detailed. As far as car audio goes... just go somewhere else. you'll save yourself the headache of confusion, money wasted, awful install rates that aren't even fully explained to you, and overall you will probably have a better experience than mine. I was offered great service a very courteous and professional team. I only afforded four stars because I am not 100% satisfied with the system at no fault to the team at CarToys. It pays to always ask first. My wife bought a Jeep Wrangler and wanted to install new radio with Apple Car Play and a backup camera. Car Toys had a unit advertised on their website (for under $300) so I sent my son to inquire about it. They told him because of the tire mount on the back of the jeep, the camera has to be mounted differently. While that makes sense, they told him it would be about $1200 total price (for a $300 unit!) After taking speaking with the manager about the first detail that I got and not being happy with the results. He asked when I could come by and drop off the truck to make it right. I dropped it off today and got it back afterward. I am very pleased with how it turned out and the results were to my exact liking. My husband and I went in on a Sunday morning around 10am looking for a new car radio for my 2008 Honda Accord. Frank helped us find what we needed and answered all of our questions. He also knew exactly what we needed for the install. We thought we had to schedule the install on another day but they were able to get us in right away. It was ready by end of the day. Install was done well and everything worked as expected. Throughout the week I couldn't figure out how to adjust some of the settings to the radio. I went up to Car Toys and they were willing to help again right away for free. They helped me and fixed my issue. I'd recommend their services and products! read more

I had issues with my car radio for my 2016 Honda CR-V EXL and had to get it replaced. The Honda dealership wanted to charge me $3600 to replace it with the original radio so I said heck no to that. I was referred to this location and had a great experience overall. Jock is an awesome guy to work with and he helped me as best as possible when it came to pricing. Him and his team were able to get me in pretty quickly and keep all my car features like I had before but with a much better radio now. In the end it was about $1100 which was expected but still way better than $3600. The seem to offer a bunch or cool things you can do with you car. The customer service is super friendly but nothing leaves you feeling feeling like you wasted your time in these situations as much as a salesperson who does not know their product very well. I recently purchased a "new to me" car and wanted to add a rearview camera with the monitor in the rearview mirror. They had a system just like that on sale so I went to inquire about it. The salesperson I got kept insisting the monitor did not come with a camera and I had to purchase that separately for another 100 dollars. That was false, as the system came with a license plate mounted camera. My second place problem was that I have a Ford F-150 with a rearview mirror that is apparently difficult to remove and this place does not have the tool needed to remove it, so they sent me to a place they said did it that looked at me like I was crazy for asking them to do it. Thee guy I spoke with also informed me that the Car Toys also has a mirror that attaches to the existing mirror and that getting one of those would eliminate the probability of my windshield breaking from removing-the mount. He was surprised they did not talk to me about that. Next stop was Best Buy and guess what, the product was 20.00 less expensive and install was 50 dollars cheaper as well, and they did not try to sell me an additional camera, so that was 100 less as well, making for a total savings of 170.00. I did not purchase one as I was worn out by that time and the installers were booked up, but I know where to go when I do. read more

Great Customer service here, second time going in the past few weeks and both times the guys were very helpful. I needed wiring harness for a car I was installing the radio on, took a bunch of pictures and just based on them they were able to help me purchase the correct parts. The second time I went in they let me know I didn't even need the part I was looking for, they could have easily sold it to me and it was only a $15 part but they talked me through why it wasn't needed. Then gave me some tips & tricks about trouble shooting the alarm system in my Jeep. Felt like the guys were honest, could have just said bring it in or sold me the part but instead gave me advice. As a DIY kind of guy I really appreciated this. I will be a return customer at this location. No experience with there install services but they are knowledgeable about their products. read more

I get it. We all have bad days. And the sucky part about it is, being in the service industry, you're not really allowed to have those bad days. Been there, done that. That's why I'm updating this review. Car Toys messed up big time. But you know what? They owned up to it, and they were willing to go the extra mile to fix it. Store manager Mike didn't have to contact me. He could've scrolled passed my YELP review without batting an eye. But this guy Mike is cut from a different sleeve. He's an incredible manager, and believes in doing the right thing, because it's the right thing, to do the right thing. My daughter and I brought her Nissan Rogue in to be detailed a few days ago, she had scheduled an appointment earlier in the week and when we arrived it took about 25 min to get checked in, then 4 hours to detail, the groupon she used said all mats and carpet would be shampooed and all windows cleaned inside and out everything inside would be wiped down and cleaned. When we arrived to pick up her car only half of the mats were cleaned, the door jams were not wiped down, the pockets on the doors were full of grit and not cleaned. Very disappointed for 99 bucks! Don't waste your time with these people. My daughter is 9 months pregnant and could have done a better job herself. read more

Then I came to Plano and everything from walking in and being greeted, clean environment and knowledgeable guys not trying to sucker you, all has been an easy walk in and buy. I barely write a review unless something is too above and beyond to not mention anything. Service is flawless, and they are very passionate about their work and the results show. Detailing is a fine art. If you know what proper detailing is, you become really picky with detailers because some like to take shortcuts. These guys did a phenomenal job and were punctual, extremely detailed, and professional. I've already sent 3 friends to them, and have been back twice eversince I first found out about them on Groupon and Yelp last year. I wish I could give this place more stars. I spoke on the phone with Terry, and he was able to schedule me an appointment the very next day. Despite their busy schedules, they were able to accomodate me. I took my car here to get it detailed today, and when I came to pick it up in a few hours, it was brand-spanking-new. Seats and windows were conditioned and cleared, ozone deodorizing treatment, hot water extraction on mats and carpets, full car was vaccumed, interior displays, dash, vents, center console were all spotlessly wiped down and cleaned. I had a Groupon, but was willing to pay a little extra to do hot water extraction on both rows of seats. Jock, Ceasar, Terry, and Chris went above and beyond to make sure my needs were met (and did exactly everything they said they would). I anticipated the 4 hour wait time because my car came in deplorable conditions. The team did a spectacular job detailing the interior of my Honda Accord -- they got rid of stains I thought were permanent. Very reasonable pricing, but even more importantly, their customer service was exceptional. I highly recommend this location of Car Toys, and know I will go to them in the near future for any detailing needs I may have. Being a meticulous person, I can vouch that the service + quality of work provided was far beyond my expectation. Thank you guys! read more

I have been 100% redeemed and the "regional manager" has since apologized for not listening to what I had been trying to go over the managers head with regards to my situation with them. Had a bunch of work done about a year ago. Noticed recently the DVD player in the sequoia wouldn't power on. Took it back to car toys and they fixed it in about an hour and didn't charge me. Worst customer service. Paid $600 down on a $1200 purchase of "free" install of radio and back up camera. They said parts would be in by end of week and 2 months later no install even scheduled. I tried to call multiple times and left multiple messages no response, would have to call multiple times to talk to human and then they told me they were waiting on different parts, no one gave the same story as to why install hadn't been scheduled. Had to go up there to get anything done. When showed up they said they were waiting on radio that I had already purchased and was on hold was given to another customer. Then found told them I wanted to purchase radio and camera and get install elsewhere and they wouldn't honor the free install price of radio cause I wasn't getting it installed there, which they have been unable to schedule since purchase 2months ago. Turns out their "free" install was costing me $600 in silly fees. I went elsewhere for install and it was $250 and they didn't need all the harnesses and misc fees that car toys was charging me for and they did it that day. I will never go there again! read more

I had to have my car towed there, by referral, to request the faulty remote starter removed. Told it would be taken care of the next day. She called and hour before closing to be told this one hr job could not be done today, despite their word. I had to do myself in the parking lot so she could go to work. While I'm working on it in a busy parking lot, I take is the manager Justin that promised that service looked over a s kept walking. Thanks for the poor service because I didn't buy an expensive car stereo or backup camera. I will tell the dealership that referred me not to anymore since someone's means of transportation isn't as important as a stereo install. read more

On July 13th I visited this Car Toys. We lost the key fobs (remote unlock and alarm system key fob). They said they would charge a diagnostic fee of ~$50 to see if their key fobs were compatible. Great news, after about 30 minutes they said they were, BUT they don't stock them and it would be 3 days - 1 week (1 week because of the virus and the warehouse was backed up where they are shipped from). I paid for the key fobs, for the labor to do the installation, and the diagnostic fee. $150.99. Funny how you have to pay up front for labor for future work. Shady in my opinion. 1 week became 2 2 weeks became 3. At 3 1/2 weeks they got them in. And I had to wait a few days for an opening in their appointment book. At exactly 4 weeks, went in. Guess what, the key fobs are not compatible and they said, we can sell you a new system. He told me I would have to pay hundreds more. When I protested, he said it wasn't him that messed up and he would work with me, but I still have to pay hundreds. I said you are a representative of the company and it is your fault. But all he was concerned about was passing the blame. What type of company makes you pay upfront for labor they haven't done. What company that says 3 days to 1 week and it takes 3 1/2 weeks. What company then due to their fault about compatibility says sorry and give us more money. Then to top it off, I asked for his name and he wouldn't give it to me. I had to ask the technician for the reps name. The one time you look for a name tag, but I guess he doesn't wear it for some reason. I will avoid them and tell everyone I know about how poor of customer service was. read more

Update: Mike, the manager called me around 10am this morning and apologized on behalf of the staff. He owned up to their mistakes and poor service even though he had no personal involvement as he was not working when I came in. That's a sign of a good manager in my book, as it would've been easy to just blame his employees for their actions. He instead told me he made a point to discuss the situation with his team members and coach them on how to handle similar situations in the future. I've worked for good, bad, decent & great managers... None of which ever took the time to personally respond to a Yelp review/corporate complaint without being told to by a DM. Mike seemed very genuine and apologetic and wanted to make sure I was taken care of. I ended up getting a new box at Car Toys of McKinney off of 380 and 75 the next morning and it looks/sounds awesome! No complaints with that store either. Upping the star rating to 2, because although the manager is awesome and did his part to correct the issue, their were multiple employees who could have stepped up to the plate as the situation occurred. read more

This is actually two different reviews. First review - I purchased a new head unit for my car with install. Second review - detailing of my car. Let's get on to the first. Decided I needed a new stereo, because I wanted to take advantage of some new items (iphone plug in) and other options. Settled on a nice Pioneer DEH-7200HD. Not a bad price ($280 installed) and while they were in there, I had them relocate the satellite antenna from the dash to the rear decklid. They did an excellent job on the install and were very good about the antenna relocation. I give this review a FULL 5 STARS! Now, on to the second review. While there, they asked if I'd had my car detailed lately, and the answer of course, is no. I was looking at getting it done by my "local trusted guy" before July, but wasn't really interested in it that day. I let them keep talking, they showed me some of their work (which may or may not have been them) and when they offered to drop me off at home while they did it, I decided to give them the shot. Knowing that it could go into the next day, but I have another car, so no rush. It did go into the next day and it turned out, they needed the car that whole day and 2 hours more. So I have to admit, I was expecting a FLAWLESS car when it came back. And it was in good shape when they got it. They delivered it to my house, nice touch for sure and this gained them a star. But during the drop off, they didn't even bother to try to show me anything they did about the stereo. Just kept saying what a great job they did on the car. I couldn't see it. It was clean for sure, but not as good as it will look after I give it to my "trusted guy" next month. It was a bit pricey too, and this lost them another star. Just wanted to mention they didn't have to do the wheels at all, since I had just had them installed THAT morning, and they were brand spankin new! So in the end, if you need a new stereo or car alarm or anything with electronics. Car Toys is your place. Car detailing? Nah....bring it to a REAL professional who won't just hold your car hostage and then try to tell you they spent hours on it. Yeah. read more
