I went here before and was pleased with food, service & ambience that's why I decided to comeback to celebrate a birthday dinner. On our way, we anticipated 1 hour drive & got delayed with 2 freeway accidents, I've tried to call the restaurant 3 times to inform that we'll be late but no one answered. Made a reservation at 7:45pm on a sunday night for 3 people, arrived at 7:43pm and was told there was a 15 min wait because they were too busy. Food was overpriced and not tasty but view was stunning, . What still amazes me is that the bill came with additional 6% wellness charge (look it up, its ridiculous). We liked everything. My favs of the bunch were probably the piri piri fried chicken and al pastor tacos. For cocktails I can definitely recommend Cristobal punch and Baja sour. FYI portions are a bit small. They're more like tapas or shareable bites. So if you're a low-key fatty like me you're gonna rack up that bill trying to get full. Service was great. Friendly staff. Cara Cara is a great spot for dinner dates (the view!) but I could also see this being a good spot in the afternoon with a group of girls! Food: 4/5 The Braised Wagyu Brisket Tacos are by far the best of what we got. I am still thinking about them. The beef melts in your mouth!! And it's such a good combo of flavors that complement each other. The Burrata + Cipollini Onion was soso for us. The greens on top were a tad bitter, and I could see the attempt but it ended up contrasting a little too strongly with how sweet and buttery the bread and onions were. Would've been better without such a bitter bite of veg on top! We also got some marinated olives and these were great! Hard to go wrong with this though. Ambiance: 5/5 People are not kidding when they say this is the best view from a rooftop restaurant in Downtown. It's so nice, look one way and you've got a flatter skyline going off into the hills in the distance. Look the other way and it's the skyscrapers of the city. The valet guy in particular was exceedingly rude, even making fun of me for how I addressed him (in my haste to get to the restroom, I told him he should talk to my partner if he was going to keep dismissing me). Later on another person assisted me instead (head of security) and the difference was night and day. He was fantastic! So my points in the rating here are definitely for him, our server, and the hostess of the rooftop restaurant. But the valet guy? Absolutely horrid. As well as the hostess downstairs, she really was trying to posture herself as above us - which is just absurd. We're all people. All in all I'd give Cara Cara a 4 out of 5. Cara Cara is a fairly new rooftop restaurant in LA on top of the Proper Hotel. The food is mostly bites, if not small portions. This is a great new spot if you want to munch on appetizers and drink their delicious and pretty cocktails before dinner. They offer valet parking beside the hotel but there are closeby parking lots where you can pay $10-15 for the day or night. However, by the time it's 8pm, these parking lots can get full pretty quickly. It's best to make reservations so you don't have to wait for a table. The servers are friendly and pretty attentive. With the restaurant situated on the penthouse floor, there are a few tables inside and along the bar as well as a vast patio. I recommend dining on the patio. There are plenty of cushioned tables for pairs or larger groups. Surrounded by lush plants, stylish furniture and decor, and a swanky open-air ambiance--what's not to gush over? All staff who assisted us were warm and welcoming. The waitress made sure to ask about any allergies and checked in on us throughout our experience. Our waitress mentioned that the restaurant's food is best shared; so that's exactly what we did! We grazed upon French Fries and Mini Lobster Rolls. Fries are hard to mess up in my opinion. There's were good and crispy, loved the aioli, and perfect to snack on. Lobster rolls were citrusy, the lobster was firmer and mild, and the roll was crunchy too. My roll was heavily dressed which caused it to break in half due to being soggy. It was great to try but I'd order something different if I were to come back. If you're looking for a different view of LA, try visiting Cara Cara. This is a hot spot for friends, date nights, or groups! It's a popular spot with a scenic skyline and a relaxing ambiance. Don't know if you need a reservation (we did) however, you have to be let up by an attendant on the ground floor to head up to the roof. Guess you can ask if drop in is available. Best to call ahead though. Would suck to pay for parking and find out there's no tables available. Service was great. Aside of being presented the bill before we ordered the main course - which was partly our fault - we ordered one course at a time. Drinks. Then appetizers. Then drinks. Our server probably thought we were done. Back to the service - he and his team were attentive and friendly. Even as it started to get packed, they were on it. Then there was the food and drinks. My group came to Cara Cara Rooftop for a birthday dinner and I was very impressed. The restaurant is perched pretty high, I forgot which floor but the views were just amazing! But what I really liked about this rooftop was it had two levels. You could dine on the very top as we did or below you can just chill either around a fire pit or on some lounge chairs in a cozy corner. So nice. There had been a chill in the air earlier but the temp for me was feeling good. In any case, no need to worry because the heat lamps were plentiful and provided good warmth. Service was fantastic and my group ordered such a diverse selection. We were told all dishes were meant to be shared and we did exactly that. We had marinated olives, French fries, Piri Piri Fried Chicken, Pork Tacos Al Pastor (I had too), a farmers salad and hanger steak. Hands down table favorite were the Piri Piri Chicken and the fries. Marinated olives went quite quick as well. As for the tacos.......if you have been reading my reviews since I touched down in LA then you know I've been on a taco tour, specifically Al Pastor.
