First off all I went in to test drive a car about a week ago and everything went fine and smooth the person who helped me was great I don't remember his name but the second time I went to test drive a car he wasn't there to help me so some other dude helped me out. That's where it just went down hill, his name is vik bhadauria. First off he asked why I wanted to test drive and I told him because I'm trying to figure out which car would be the best fit for me and obviously you can't really do that without giving the car a go but I also said that I wasn't going to buy it right there and then. He then got aggressive and started to say with attitude " well you can't just be test drivings for fun you need to have an intention of buying the car because you're just waisting everyone's time." I was shocked but told him well how do you want me to buy a car without even knowing if I'm going to like it or not. Like why would I show up and randomly say of I want that one just for me to not like the car. I know they have the money back offer if I don't like it but isn't the point of buying a car to get what you want so there is no need for an exchange. He then told me "you do know we have high satisfaction rates with people who don't test drive this isn't even necessary" I just said ok that's cool can I test drive it? In the end I couldn't test drive the car because he said I couldn't use the insurance I had because it wasn't under my name for obvious reasons my insurance is under my mom's name. I didn't have a problem the first time so why couldn't I do it this time. He just got up and said sorry can't help you and walked off and so I left... I bought a car from CarMax. It was a rather smooth experience. The sales rep helped me all the way through the process. I used a credit union for the loan. The purchasing and picking up the vehicle was rather seamless. I ended up taking the car to get serviced a few weeks after. I was very impressed the way they handled the entire transaction, they paid for a Lyft , completed the few items that needed to be fixed on the vehicle, and when I went to go pick up my car, I noticed they had gassed up my car which was very impressive (especially with gas prices). Horrible sales service! I had made an appointment to see cars or so I thought. Picked out 5 cars online i would like to see & possibly test drive. Vick (think was his name) said well pick top two cuz I don't want to waste my time! SHOCKED!!! He said he only lets customer test drive two car, I would have to leave & make a second appointment! I was shocked how rude he came across to us. Should have walked out then! So drove 2 cars loved the Altima &was going to purchase. Asked about warranty he said they had a 30 day warranty. When went into office warranty on cars was 90 days, 4000 miles, return no questions asked! There was a huge sign on wall! Asked him why the sign said something else, Vick said policy changes this morning!!! Vick continues to make up things. Asked about price as it was $3000 higher then Blue Book. He tells me a company called Manheim sets all retail prices. I told that was incorrect. Manhiem is a car auction who sales cars to dealers at wholesale prices. I was in the loan business for over 35 years. He quickly changed the subject . Everything out his mouth was incorrect or a lie. Told him I changed my mind don't want to buy car from him. He had the nerve to say to me see I wasted my time with you that's why I only let people test drive 2 cars instead of more! Then wanted to shake my hand which I would not. Purchased a Ram 2500. Unfortunately I wasn't completely satisfied. They claim to fix minor dents. The truck had 2 minor dents. I pointed them out and they said where they stand a certain amount of feet away from the truck and look directly at the truck you cannot see the dents and that is their policy. Unfortunately it doesn't mean that those dents aren't there. They told me "we'll see what we can do". I had a feeling they were going tell me they can't fix them after the fact I sign the contract. My dealer told me "If we were to fix every dent we'd be here all day". I was notified that my truck arrived but took 5 days to actually be ready for me. It was there for many of days so I don't understand the false advertisement or why they couldn't fix them for a buying customer. I knew coming into CarMax I would get a low offer appraisal for my truck just knowing that they are in the business to make money. But wow... not only did they low ball me, they presented a insultingly low offer of $1500 for a 2005 f250 diesel truck. Seriously... the best part about it was when they presented it, they stated my DIESEL truck has a engine noise. They can't be serious? YES diesel trucks make noise they're DIESELS!!!!!! these guys aren't professionals they're a joke. Another factor they listed was my truck leaks oil... umm where????? Did they mean the oil on the floor?? From all the many cars that pass through that place? Because I watched the guy appraise my truck and he never even attempted to look under it! Stay away from this location, I can't speak for other carmaxes but this one... was a huge waste of my drive and time. Absolutely horrible UPDATE: before going to CarMax check out "CARVANA.com" they do online appraisals and they come to your house and pick up the car or truck. After leaving CarMax I did a online appraisal and they quoted me 3x higher than CarMax. After I agreed to it they set up a date and time to pick up my truck. I always dreaded going car shopping at a dealership. Sales reps are always waiting around like sharks and very pushy. However, buying from Carmax was a completely opposite experience. An extremely pleasant experience to say the least. We had a car we were considering trading in, so we got it appraised at Carmax while we checked out the car we were interested in purchasing. However, after receiving the offer, we decided to keep our car. Carmax's offer was fair, but it made more sense for us to keep the car instead of selling it off for $3500. During the appraisal inspection, we proceeded to check out the car we fell in love with from Carmax's website. The car did not disappoint. It was everything we expected and more. The description of the vehicle and the photos posted on Carmax's website were accurate representations of what they had in their lot. The car was so clean that we decided to skip the test drive. This was my first time buying a car without test driving it first. Carmax offers a 7 days full refund (no questions asked) return policy, so we knew that if we encountered any issues after driving it off the lot we could return the vehicle. The credit check, title, and sales contract was extremely streamlined. The process only took about 30 minutes. Carmax, unlike other car dealerships, offer a 3 day cooling period. The buyer can shop for a lower interest-rate elsewhere and replace the Carmax loan with the better rate within 3 days. Carmax prepped the car for us and even put a nice bow on it when it was ready. Although we got a pretty good interest rate through Carmax (4.25%), I got a lower rate (2.45%) through my credit union. I called Carmax to confirm that I could switch out the loan and they even offered to give me an extra day if I needed more time. Long story short, I swapped out the loan with my Credit Union's lower interest rate loan at Carmax 2 days after the purchase of our new car. Carmax did not charge us any fees for this, nor did we run into any problems with this change. Car buying has never been better or easier. There is no reason why I would purchase any future vehicles elsewhere. Carmax has earned my future business. read more

He was on top of having them do a walk around to inspect the car for any scratches, dents, etc... He called me back right away and gave me all the information and was very upfront about the time frame of how long it would take. Unfortunately, the car wouldn't get here in time so I couldn't purchase it. When I told Devon this, he didn't just ignore me and move on. He actually asked me what I was looking for and where I lived, and provided me with contact information for another sales associate at another location that is much closer to my home. I am going to be purchasing my 3rd car from Carmax, and I have never had bad experience with them. All my cars have been extremely reliable and always lasted me a long time. read more

If you have good credit do NOT use their financing system and here's why: If your credit is good, Carmax sees it an an opportunity to cash in by offering you a high 8% ( or more) interest rate and will NOT send your credit information to other banks to get competitive offers. Example: Capitol One offers a 4.5% interest rate for people with excellent credit, Carmax on the other hand wanted to charge me 8.5%....that's simply bad business. Worst customer service experience with the service department. Had an issue with my vehicle after purchasing it, they didn't have keys to tire locks, and the engine was burning oil (Kia). They brushed the problem off to Kia and said Kia is who to go to for burning oil engine and Kia said the 10 year warranty is for first owners. So when I went back to car max, they still wouldn't help, and now less than a year after purchasing I have a vehicle who's engine is needing replace and the vehicle is 3 years old only. I advised her what my "MUST HAVES" were and within 15 minutes she called me with the new car. The car was transferred and 2 days later was in Ontario. It took about 3 hours to complete the transaction which comprised of appraising my car which I sold to CarMax. The dollar amount they gave me was beyond fair. Carmax (Irvine)sold us a car that cannot be registered in California. We purchased a Jeep Wrangler on December 1st of 2022. We were told by the dealership that the permanent plates would be sent out in the upcoming weeks. After five weeks, we called to get the status, and the representative said they would check and call us back. Two weeks later, we called again, and the representative stated that the car was registered out of state and that we would have to do a VIN verification. We brought to vehicle to Carmax and did the verification, and Carmax stated a couple of weeks to receive the plates and registration. Fast forward four months, and no word from Carmax. We've had two staff members pulled over and threatened with the impoundment of the vehicle. We contacted the CHP who stated the dealer plates were no longer valid and the vehicle could not be driven legally. After multiple calls to Carmax, the representative said to bring the car back because the vehicle was unregisterable. We had to spend 5 hours of our day to sit a CarMax dealership (Ontario) for the return. Carmax should have never sold us a vehicle with issues like this. read more

Also remember to check your keys battery life before you purchase your vehicle. I recently JUST found my twin key that has the remote start, and I can't use it because the battery has died without me ever using it. Think of this place as just a place that's holding your vehicle. If you have good credit, finance through your bank, and remember to have YOUR BANK run a KBB Resale Value check. Make sure you get all of the specifications on the car. Carmax salesmen will try and input an older model's information in *their* KBB Resale Value check to make the resale value lower of the vehicle lower, which in turn lowers how much your bank will cover you.... which means Carmax will have you pay more out of pocket cash from the deficit of *their* KBB check. I have SchoolsFirst FCU and received my quote before going to Carmax, and when CJ ran *his* check, the quote was about $3,000 less than what my bank told me, which would have made me come out of pocket $3K. Hope this is helpful and not too confusing. Don't let them intimidate or con you. read more

Three weeks ago, I had a Toyota Tundra 2007 Crewmax TRD Edition truck to turn in and didn't think I would receive as much as I did with the amount of work needed to bring it back to full working condition. It had high mileage as well, but nonetheless I received a fair price. When I walked in, I was greeted by Gian, who didn't pressure us and let us do the looking as well as gave honest opinions on our potential selections. Although, we had done extensive research, he was personable and took the time to help us in making our final decision. However, once we found the car we wanted, we had second guesses, in which we wanted another vehicle (Acura MDX) sent and the process was seamless. We even went to two local well known dealerships, one dealership our family has purchased 4 cars, and they still gave us the run around as well as were rude! Eventually, we decided on a 2009 Honda Pilot over the Acura MDX, we have 3 kids and preferred not to deal with premium gasoline. My experience went so well, I came back the following week and worked with Gian as well as Bill on getting another vehicle, a 2012 Honda Accord EX. This process was easier than the first, AND both times I was financed by CarMax. I would recommend carmax to anyone looking to get into a newer vehicle. Expect not to haggle, but get a car at a good market value... They also provide 3 business days to find your own financing (I went to credit union) and 5 days to return the vehicle with no strings attached as well as 30 day limited warranty. I purchased a car here back in Sept. 2020. I ended up getting their extended warranty and MaxCare to ensure had the car needed service I could bring it back and it be in good hands. Boy I was. After speaking to someone, who guaranteed that my car would be taking care of. I was then called the following day learning that "they were not servicing cars that weren't purchased 90 days ago". It was very disappointing that though I understood their odd logic for this rule, COVID related, they could not accommodate and help get my car towed to a different facility. They said they could tow it 15miles out that was it. My mom gave me her old 2003 GMC Envoy after buying a new Toyota RAV4 6 months ago. She didnt want to go through the trouble of selling it, and the dealer offered $100 for it. I looked at carvanna, vroom and carmax online. Vroom and carvanna were BSing with 100 and 300 offers. Carmax offered $1800. I went to the dealer on a friday...it was really busy...after I checked in, a girl came up to evaluate the car 2 hours after I was there. I thought she was gonna try to find deficiencies with the car to knock down the offer...but nope...$1800 was the offer. After the offer you go inside to the business office...they told me it would be 1.5 hrs before someone drove the car and made the "final" offer...I had things to do, so I left. The offer was good for 7 days. i tried selling the car my own that weekend, but only one person called about it, and they stood me up at our agreed upon time. I decided I didnt have the patience to try selling it myself. i went back to carvanna at opening time on monday...I went to the business office....and about 30 minutes someone came out to drive the car...i thought they were gonna try to bust my balls on the price...the dude literally drove it off the lot, to the first intersection, made a u-turn, came back...gave the thumbs up, and then we went to the back office... We sat at a table...and in about 20 minutes the girl assisting us with this stage of the negotiations came back with an $1800 check. Badabing, bada bang. Its no compromise until you sign the dotted line, and at this time, even old beaters are going for beaucoup bucks...so why wouldn't you give them a shot. read more

I needed to purchase a car. I thought I would purchase (locally) so I could support one of the local businesses here in Escondido. But that was a disaster. I could not get anyone to return my calls/texts/emails?!? I went online to Carmax and found the SUV I wanted. I did everything online and it took less then an hour. It was super simple and fast! I completed the pre-approval. Then I received an email from Carmax asking me to login to read the finance details. Which was also super simple and quick!! I chose the warranty I wanted and chose the Express Pick Up. I uploaded a few items they needed (proof of insurance and ID). Then I spoke with an incredibly upbeat, kind, awesome salesman by the name of Mark! He confirmed everything was spelled correctly, filled out correctly and doubled checked to make sure nothing was missing. Then he said, "Congrats on your new car"! I'm telling you it was that simple! The car was located in Riverside which isn't very close to me but there was no way I was going to go somewhere else after such an awesome experience with Carmax! I took an Uber and got there at 8pm. I signed the paperwork and gave them my deposit. And I am not kidding when I say it took less then 10 min to do all that!! I was in my new car driving away, in less then an hour! WORST PLACE TO BUY A CAR!!! Twice, they screwed up my transfer. The first time, I paid $310 to have a truck transferred from Utah to Ontario and waited a month and a half. Made an appt to pick up the vehicle, got there only to find out that they sold it to someone else. So, they said I could find another truck anywhere in the country and they'd pay for the transfer. So, I found another one in Washington and they supposedly ordered the transfer. After nearly a month and a handful of dodged phone calls, I went over the salesperson's head. His name is Armond Barkhordari....worthless salesman EVER!!! Only to find out that he NEVER even made the transfer. I've been trying to buy a truck from this worthless dealership for 3 months and they can't seem to tell the difference between the truth and a lie. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!
