Oh Carol's corner. The portions are BIG - like the 3 men I was with (husband, my dad, FIL) had a half order of Hash and still had half to take home. Even though the portions are big they aren't all the greasy. Now, they still are a bit greasy since you're mixing no less than 6 ingredients together per breakfast but it's certainly not as bad as other places. The food is cheap too when you consider the amount you get. The wait staff was nice and efficient. The atmosphere was what you would expect for a place like this...and I've been here before multiple times so that might have had something to do with it! read more

Yelpers noted the enormous portions and they weren't kidding. My boyfriend and I ordered the half order of a Denver omelet (which comes with hash browns and toast), two pieces of french toast, and two pancakes. We were able to finish half of the omelet and hash browns, one piece of the french toast, and half of one of the pancakes. We were so full! That being said, what you can expect is olllllllllllllld decor, food on the ground, patrons in pajamas, but classic diner breakfast food for cheap. I was in the mood for the meal, I got my hashbrowns and two eggs over easy with rye toast, and I loved every bite of it... especially for like six bucks, how could you not! Ignore the mess, and lack-thereof-decor, and just enjoy diner food for cheap. Someone called this place's portions "Gluttony," and that's a perfect description. The food isn't just tasty, but also as overwhelmingly filling. My wife loved what she got, and I was happy with my flapjacks, which were the size of manhole covers (you think I'm kidding, but I'm not exaggerating as much as it sounds), and there were three to wade through. My meal was good, though the hay bale of hash browns that came with my wife's meal were bland. The service totally reminded me of "Alice's Restaurant," and the clientele looked to be regulars. I don't mind going back, but I need to plan in advance, check with my doctor to confirm my cholesterol level, and have a defibrillator on hand. read more

Talk about a place where you can strap on the old feed bag. Portions here are ridiculous. It amazes me that they make any money. Place feels like a converted double-wide. Great breakfast here, people come in droves to eat the monstro breakfast. Gravy is good, omelets are good as well. I dine out for breakfast 3-4 times a week. I generally like the local choices such as Biscuits Cafe, Lisa's Country Kitchen, Valerie's, etc. - good food, friendly staff, cleanliness, etc. However, I don't go to Carol's Corner Cafe anymore. Yes the food is generally good and the portions are quite sufficient. But the sanitary conditoins are just too significant to ignore any longer. Two things in particular: 1. The floors are filthy. You will see a lot of food on the floor and, especially, under the tables. If they scooped it up and put it on a platter, it would rival their largest breakfast dishes. I have NEVER seen them sweep up. Of course, when the customer area is so contaminated, one wonders what the kitchen conditions are. 2. The way servers handle the glasses I drink from (water, juice, etc.). The servers invariably handle the glasses by their lips, a practice I find disgusting. The servers' hands are in regular contact with soiled plates, dishes, wipe cloths, used napkins, food preparation/work surfaces and the like. I trust that their personal hygiene is adequate (I hope, anyway); however, the routine contact between their hands and unsanitary items that are a natural part of their work environment should mandate that they reduce to the greatest extent possible contact between their hands and surfaces that will come into contacts with customers' mouths. The lips of glasses should never be touched. Glasses should be handled by their bases only. Being handed a glass of water by the lip of the glass is the same as being handed a spoon handle first. Yuk! Servers in good restaurants know this, and Carol's servers should, too. I'll stop by again, perhaps, but will monitor the situation to see if it improves. If not, I have more appetizing alternatives. read more

Horrible service. Really terrible. Food wasn't any better, I had the country fried steak.... It was like cardboard, and I think I might have enjoyed cardboard better, might have been seasoned at least. Our waitress chatted another table up while we waited and waited some more for our order to be taken, it wasn't very busy but all the waitstaff made themselves look very busy, upon closer inspection they were really just running around doing nothing or chatting with regulars. You must have one thing to draw customers in, they missed the mark on all accounts, I'll become a regular at an establishment that deserves my business. read more

I am totally down with a divey breakfast place, but this one didn't even meet those expectations. The place wasn't particularly clean, kept up, or inviting, but by no means was it enough to have me doubling back. The server who took care of us was okay. Not friendly, but certainly not rude, just down to business and that is fine as we had everything that we needed. I ordered the chili cheese omelet, a half portion after hearing of this places' claim to fame and it was undeniably huge, but it was not that great. The chili had no flavor, very bland, all the flavor came from the cheddar. The hashbrowns were good, done really nicely, not burnt to a crisp like they had been sitting on a grill all day, which is somewhat typical in the afternoon at breakfast places... so good work! My wife had a salad which she described quite well, "I'm having trouble finding lettuce in my salad." Ham, turkey, bacon, pickles (odd), olives, and a few other veggies, she agreed it wasn't bad but certainly not worth coming back for. I will say that this place isn't cheap, but you certainly do get a lot for your money. We spent about $35 for the two of us and had we elected to take home leftovers, would have had two meals (two big meals!). I can taste the value, but I'd rather taste something delicious that stands out. Not a horrible place, but I can't really recommend it. read more

Let me be clear on two points. One, Big portions and great service do not equal great food. Two, Guy Fieri will never come here. My wife and I tried this place based on the fact that The Columbian picked it as the best breakfast in Vancouver and the multiple good Yelps. We showed up this morning and the place was definitely hopping but we .were seated right away. The server was quick with coffee and water and was very friendly too. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with eggs sunny side up and my wife had the Ham and Cheese croissant. The food came ungodly fast. We were both surprised. Now let's talk about the food. First when I order Chicken Fried Steak I expect to get a steak (cubed or otherwise) that is fried like chicken not dredged in flour and then thrown on a griddle. That is not fried. It was tough and didn't have much flavor. The steak was then put on top of my sunny side up eggs which did two things. First, the weight of the steak broke both of the yolks. Second, the heat from the steak finished cooking the yolk that was now running throughout the plentiful yet soft and undercooked hashbrowns. My wife's opinion of the Ham and Cheese croissant was a resounding "Meh." Let me be clear, the food wasn't horrible, it's just that it was just like the food I've had in hundred's of other greasy spoons around the country. For the quantity it is a good value and the service was fast and friendly. Would I go back? Probably not. I'd rather take the time and go to someplace like Mother's or Fat Alberts. read more

I guess messing with tourists isn't just a past time in Hawaii. We only ate here because the people working at the mini mart at the gas station across the street said there wasn't anymore places to eat down the street. We were in a hurry, on the way to a class and needed to eat breakfast. We later found out there is a Cameo cafe with superior food in the same parking lot as the tennis/golf club that was holding the class. I ordered the 2 eggs with hash browns and toast. Yes the portions were big, and the easy over eggs came already broke on top of the hash browns. I ended up having to eat some of the hash browns to recoup my egg yolks. The toast came super saturated in some butter-like yet NOT butter fluid. I ate the eggs and some toast and a scant amount of hash browns. I felt hungry but was fine before we ate. Afterward the phlegm-fest started. Shortly after we left the table my nose was stuffed up then runny. I was spitting up stuff and not happy. I usually eat healthy and avoid trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, Etc. and my body told me loud and clear it didn't like the food. I prefer quality over quantity and will not be back. read more

My wife and I stopped by for a Late morning breakfast on a Tuesday, The restaurant was moderatly busy. I ordered the Ham steak breakfast and my wife ordered the Country fried steak, our meals arrived quickly hot from the kitchen the food was very tasty and filling. The portions at Carols are usually on the large side. We liked the food so much we ordered a breakfast to go for my mother in law who was at home. I had iced tea it was pleasently strong and fresh. I have come to Carols on and off over the years and have never been dissapointed. It has always been a wonderful place to find large quantities of great tasting comfort food. The serves are always so sweet and the atmosphere is usually so positive. The cinnamon rolls are HUGE and amazing.

We went to Carol's Corner Cafe this AM after driving by and seeing their sign claiming to be the best breakfast in Clark Co. As brand new Clark County residents we decided it was our duty to check this out. Well, it was pretty good by diner standards - so I give it several stars for excellent greasy-spoon diner quality. Sweetie had a full order of B&G and the $5.50 egg/hashbrown/toast breakfast, hold the toast (they knocked off 50 cents for this alteration which we did not expect). I had the 1/2 order veggie omelette, which came with toast and hash browns. $12 or so. Portions were enormous, sort of excessive actually, but on the other hand diner breakfast should be lavish so I'm ok with this. B&G was pretty good - not much sausage in the gravy but that's really the way I grew up eating it, and there was plenty of fatty sausage flavor in the creamy, peppery gravy. Biscuits were cooked in a pan and sliced in squares, a bit dry, but tasted good and seemed to be from scratch. I always have the veggie omelette when I'm having a full on, can go home and nap, weekend diner breakfast, and this one delivered. Stuffed full of fresh sauteed mushrooms, onion, green pepper and tomato and plenty of mild cheddar. Hash browns could have been crispier but were fine overall, done enough. I love potato in all its forms so not much of a critic. Coffee was good, gotta say the coffee even in a gas station generally seems pretty good here in Vancouver compared to the swill you get almost everywhere in the Midwest from which we recently came (in Midwest diners they generally give you some sort of Folgers watery bile, an abomination to man and beast). High standards around these parts for coffee apparently! Price was fine, and the service was excellent even though the place was jam-packed on a Saturday morning. We got out of there for $30, can't complain considering we ordered too much food. The ambiance was diner, not sure why other posters object to this - the table seemed clean and I didn't notice any particular cleanliness problems. In the future we might split the 1/2 omelette or stick with smaller specials - $5.50 for eggs, hashbrowns and toast is a pretty great deal and the coffee was @ $1.75 for endless refills. read more

The serving sizes at this place can be officially called "gluttony", I think. It might sound funny, but I actually felt a bit embarrassed with the pile of food in front of me considering how absolutely out of proportion it was to what a normal person would eat at a single breakfast. I had a HALF ORDER of their house hash scramble, and it filled a dinner plate two inches deep. It was simply ridiculous. The food was OK, but the prices were ridiculously high. At least they reflected the serving sizes. If you're looking for a cheap breakfast, I guess you could find one here, but only if you're averaging the cost over a couple of days and taking leftovers home with you. The extra money certainly does not go into an ambience fund. The place is comfortable, but not someplace that just cries for you to linger. It is a place to consume, and then to depart from. Carol's corner is a fabulous place to eat, especially for breakfast. They have good home cooked food. I would recommend anything with the gravy on it. They make it with real bits of pork and it is mouth watering. I also had the Breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese, and it was great. Word to the wise. If you are going to Carol's corner as the starting point of your day and do not plan on going home for a while, order half portions. Naysayers' opinions aside, I think this place is great. My husband and I go early enough to not be concerned about crowds, lines. etc. A "half" an omelette is ridiculously huge here, basically the size of my forearm. You should definitely share, but know that they will charge you a nominal fee to split the plate. The service is polite, the food comes out quickly, and yes...you do get a crapload of food for what you pay. And as long as it's good, I am A-OK with that...who doesn't like leftovers? The denver omelette is good, but I'm honestly not a fan of the hashbrowns. They're the weird, big hashbrowns and honestly a little greasy and flavorless to me. My hubby says the pancakes are good, and in competition with The Hotcake House - which is basically blasphemy to even say, but I'll go with it. Appropriately, the pancakes here are huge as well. Just moved here a few weeks ago and have been dying to try this place. I finally got to go this morning and I was very disappointed. 1. We weren't greeted and eventually just sat at the bar. The servers weren't too friendly either. 2. As I sat down I avoided the broken chairs and the dirty counter tops. The floors were filthy along with the ceiling which had brown stains all over. Throughout my time there I noticed a few employees drinking beverages and eating food where it is noticeable from the front... Which is not appealing from a customers view. I noticed a cook pull something from his beard then continue preparing meals. 3. However the food came out pretty fast. The portions were very large but honestly it was not appetizing. I got the CC Hash and my boyfriend got the country fried steak.. My boyfriends meal was undercooked and I had to return mine because I found very long strands of hair in it. At this point I was disgusted and left. 4. When I paid for the meals and it was $38! That much for two meals is outrageous! Do yourselves a favor and drive the extra 10 minutes and go to Breakfast at Valerie's on Mill Plain. You'll get your money's worth and delicious food! read more

My husband and I are new to Vancouver and wanted a good breakfast. Wanted to try Fatty Patties but it closes at 2pm. A local business told us to try Carols, it had won the 'best breakfast/comfort food'. WELL, I was very disappointed. The service was okay, no smiles just okay. I ordered the ham and eggs and my husband the bacon and eggs. The only good part of that breakfast was the 'bacon'. The best bacon I've tasted in a very long time. The hash browns filled most of your plate and they were burnt... Unless for a bacon sandwich would not go back there. Over rated... Adding an edit: The hours of operation are inconsistent. Hours are not posted. Just a closed sign in the window in the afternoons. So not a place to go out of your way for, it could be closed. read more

All I have to say is GOD DAM! This place was great! The portions were MASSIVE! I order the works hash full portion because I was very hungry. But apparently my very hungry is nothing compared to this place. Attached is what's left after eating 3/4 of my meal. I got 4 eggs with it BIG mistake. If I didn't get the 4 eggs I might of been able to finish it. Also I got the gravy on the side and it was simply amazing. Taking that home to add with some other stuff I cook. Really good comfort food that is served in huge portions. You aren't going to find fancy espresso drinks and fancy food here. And god love them for that! The service is always quick and very friendly. The staff doesn't hover but they do have some sort of coffee cup radar. Your cuppa will never get cold here. If you go during the peak breakfast hours you are going to have to wait for a table, but I've never waited more than 10 mins or so. The food comes quickly and in large quantities. You are going to leave here with a full stomach and a enough food in a take out box for the next morning. read more

I went there for breakfast on Saturday morning because my bf kept gimmick-ING me about how good and huge their portion is. It was crowd with bunch of hungry people, our server kind of tough, reminds me of my straight high school teacher. The food came in a small plate, but piled up with food (great strategy) it gives the effect of a big portion, it's actually not that huge. It was ok, the coffee taste like whatever and people were rushing you because they need the table right away (well, I was still eating and my plate not even halfway done) I am not so sure to comeback, one time it's enough for me. Even a "3 egg" (this is the smallest option) 1/2 order omelette is the size of a child's arm. 3 egg stretched with oil and water maybe, it was very greasy. Nearly $12 for an omelette and hash browns in which a normal person could only eat 1/3 of. If you like dive-diners and 10lbs of food in only one order, this is a great place for you! Tasted like a typical diner breakfast, nothing special. Service was mediocre at best, you could tell the server was not a people person and had not so much as a friendly smile for us on our way out. After waiting out the door for 20 min (line was even longer when we left) we got a dirty wet table that still had used creamer cups on it from diners before us...yuck. Huge flies buzzing around...but, I thought, maybe the food will make up for it. My friend ordered the half order of biscuits n gravy, I got the chicken fried steak. Food came out quickly, and our waitress was good about checking in on us. But, no bueno. Steak was super dry, no seasoning on anything, and barely a speck of meat in the gooey sausage gravy. The name of this place would lead you to believe it is a cozy little cottage with a picket fence around it.........NOT! The cafe occupies a rather grubby corner surrounded by an asphalt parking lot and busy streets, and the building has seen better days. The inside consists of booths and counter seating, friendly staff, and avid diners. Not much ambiance here, folks, but the fascination comes when your order arrives and pins down your end of the table. Other Yelpers have described the enormous servings, but NOTHING prepared me for what arrived on....a PLATTER! Needless to say, I finished it for dinner 10 hours later! It was quite good, but next time I'll order something smaller--if such a thing exists at Carol's. read more
