I love the food. I really do. I'm from New Brunswick originally and grew up around the grease trucks, and this place does a decent job in its stead since moving up here. However, the two stars is solely for the terrible service. I distinctly remember ordering from them years ago only to wait over an hour, and living literally around the block. I live across town now, but still, as I type this, have been waiting an hour and half for two sandwiches. When we called, just moments ago, we were told our food hadn't left the store by a rude employee who told us she didn't appreciate our attitude. Thanks ma. Hi placed a delivery order and the wait time was supposed to be 45 minutes, I then had Emily (the manager) call me from CARS an hour and five minutes later stating they forgot to turn on their delivery system and the order would "only" take another hour??!!! She then proceeded to ask me do you want to wait another hour? Then the GM -Grace gets on the phone and provides zero solution she only says I'm sorry. WOW These people are completely ignorant and do not know how to manage. In honor of the new year and all those resolutions that I set forth, I have decided to do my first review on an eatery that fosters fat sandwiches and late night eating. What better way to begin a brand new year than stuffing myself silly with an incredibly delicious sandwich that literally brought my blood pressure to near stroke-inducing level! Well let's just say that the first few days of the new year really doesn't count towards those resolutions...or should I say the first few months. Anyways you're not living life to the fullest unless your very life is flashing before you! So here goes nothing 2015, I'm ready for some good times, good food, and good people, and CAR's Late Night Delivery has plenty of that good food in spades. I don't know about how others feel but sometimes when I'm at a deli or a restaurant I have such a difficult time ordering what I want. That's because I'm craving all kinds of things at once. The advent of fat sandwiches have been a saving grace. CAR's steps up to the plate and tries to give their customers a taste of that elusive sandwich nirvana. When it was my turn to experience the deliciousness, I was truly in heaven. My heart raced because of how good it was and maybe because I was having a minor heart arrhythmia. Irregardless I still thoroughly enjoyed my Fat Pete. Oh Fat Pete! May you always be the symbol of plumpy goodness for my experience with you was extraordinary. The combination of cheesesteak, chicken tenders, bacon, mozzarella sticks, and buffalo ranch dressing is a cacophony of orgasmic, cholesterol-raising flavors! Every bite of that fat sandwich was whispering sweet nothings in my ears and all I could hear was the soothing melody of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" all the while. To help me down such an incredible sub creation, I paired it with a sweet and creamy strawberry milkshake. A shake that's perfectly blended that allowed me to suck with minimal effort deserves praise on my part. That combo still brings tears to my eyes even days after I made my fateful visit to CAR's. For 2015 I know there will be many more visits to come. It's great to find hidden gems among many other diamonds in so many places thanks to Yelp. Had I not looked on my trusted Yelp app, my friend Kar and I would have never known about CAR's. Because the new year is all about new beginnings, I couldn't think of a better place to review than CAR's specially since I visited the second day of the new year. No where outside of Rutgers New Brunswick campus can you get such a health-threatening, bulging grease filled fat sandwich. Then, out of nowhere a friend recommends CAR's Late Night Delivery. I of course look up the website & question with curiosity. Wait. Can it be true? It was. The first time I ordered I got a "Fat MILF". Cheesesteak, fries, mozz sticks, marinara, cheese whiz. It was a golden grease pile. It was perfect. It was better then the "Grease Trucks". The sandwiches are definitely a tastier improved version of the Grease Trucks, but just as disgustingly unhealthy. The only thing I dislike about CAR's is that sometimes delivery can take up to an hour & a half. Often times they are completely backed up due to liquor induced students feeling the urge to gorge themselves. If you can be patient then it is worth the wait. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now so I stopped by last night. I have to say it is now my top #1 fav spots in fat sandwiches over fat stacks and fat house BUT I'm giving 4 star because they are a bit pricey. I don't mind paying 8$ for the sandwich but the fire balls were 7$ and they only gave 6. Really? That Deff. Wasn't worth it. And they weren't that enjoyable either. Not for 7$. For that I could of got a whole other fat sandwich and got rolled home. I'm no cheapy when it comes to food either I'll make it rain and blow a stack... so maybe if they were worth it I would of been more of a happy customer. Oh and I also had a peanut butter shake. I love eating at cars when I am hungry and have the chance to order food. But it became really annoying to order online. I am also extremely upset about the price raise on the fat sandwiches, which were only about $10-12 but now could be $13+, and the shakes are now $5+ for a small. Also since I typically order online, I have to order through door dash because they don't provide car delivery (Which is what the company was based off of) and it adds a huge tax, tip, and delivery fee. My typical order of one fat sandwich and a regular shake went from about $18 for delivery to $30, this is outrageous. I seriously love the food at cars, and it always hits the spot, which is why I always recommend it to a friend, but I don't want to be spending so much on one person. Like, I might as well be ordering an entire pie of pizza and a liter of soda for a smaller price. I'm sorry for the rude and hostile review, because I honor this place, and I feel like most of the bad reviews are because of the service which people can't be mad about because its crappy teenagers that work here, and you can't expect much out of the teens. Also, a regular costumer knows the wait for the food is a little long, but that just only proves how good its going to be because it takes a longer time to make it perfect (its like the culture of the restaurant, you have to expect and accept it). If you're going to order delivery, expect a verrrrry long wait and cold food upon arrival. The delivery guy was kind but it took two hours for my food to be delivered which is a big negative in my book and most likely won't order again. Now as far as the food, I ordered their fried chicken sriracha sandwich on potato bread that was missing lettuce and tomatoes; however, the chicken itself was delicious. The delivery time seems to coincide with many of the other establishments that deliver in the Montclair area. We've always had very tasty food with no discrepancies. My issue with this company is that when they quote you 40 minutes and it's over an hour and 15 minutes later and you call to find out what's going on, they act like you're an inconvenience and you should just wait. Im writing this review 3 yrs after my original review. I'd like to say my palette has matured and subsequently i needed to update my review. Unfortunately that is only a minuscule portion of my reasoning for reviewing. Last summer my cheat days where many and frequent so i spent a lot of late nights and lunches at Cars. I worked within biking distance so it was easily accessible for me. I'd admit my late night visits i was usually inebriated leaving my opinion on the food moot. During my work days i would grab a Fat Hawk or Fat Pete w/ a side of fries because they where legitimate financial choices. I would order a large 12 inch for $11 and i would receive a sandwich that i could have half of for lunch and half for later. Occasionally i would not even finish half in one sitting when i ordered a side of fries. Consistency was on point and the timing although wasn't as consistent it was understandable due to their constant busyness. A year later everything has changed. I've frequently considered asking them if they're under new management. More than 50% of the time my order is incorrectly executed. Some its wet asked for a dry sandwich while other times they are plain out giving me the incorrect sandwich. The sandwiches have become smaller every time i've gone this year. Sometimes missing ingredients while other times just skimping on ingredients. It no longer seems like a budget meal to me if my Fat sandwiches look like Skinny sandwiches. They even changed the bread! I'm a huge bread snob so that was just disappointing. It honestly seems like someone came in and tried to cut as many corners as possible to save money and they fired all the chefs in exchange for staff that seems to not care. read more

"Fat" sandwiches are a local New Jersey treat, especially if you are at Rutgers at the "Grease Trucks" or down the shore near "Nelly's" by Monmouth University. While Car's Late Night isnt quite the equal of either of these places, it is still more than satisfactory if you dont want to make the long drive down to either of those spots. They dont have the variety or options that the true "Grease Trucks" do, but all of their sandwiches are very good, and they are open (and Deliver) late, so theyre a perfect late night stop. They also have pretty decent wings and boneless wings. My choice is the Fat MILF - Chicken tenders, cheesesteak, mozzarella sticks, and marinara and cheese sauce, all stuffed into a roll. And since you are already indulging, why not get a chocolate milkshake while you're at it. read more

I ordered the chicken tenders and fries. One of my tenders had a dull area of mush and seemed undercooked and not edible. Not looking at my other tenders I went back to the store and I was given a new tender for the one I showed them that looked nasty. When I come back to the others one of them had the same stuff but was on most of the tender. NEVER ORDER FROM CARS DELIVERY!! They are HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! We called to place an order for pick up and they told us we'd have to wait 45 minutes. 25 minutes later I got a call asking if our order was for pick up or delivery. I told them again that it was for pick up and they told us to come in another 25 minutes. We finally made it to the store and when we got there they had not started to make it because they thought it was for delivery! We had clarified TWICE that our order was for pick up and they still did not know that when we got there!! We then proceeded to wait for an hour MORE for our food. We watched three other groups of people who ordered after us get out food before us. Finally after waiting MORE THAN TWO HOURS FOR OUR FOOD the cashier handed us the meal and said it was on the house. Three hours later I received a call from cars telling us that it was an "accident" that we got our meal for free and that we owed cars for our meal. The manager explained that he had us on camera at the store and if we did not pay he would call the police. I could not believe this! After they got our order confused and made us wait over 2 hours and offered us the meal for free they were taking back their offer and threatening to call the police?! Never order from this place! They will make you wait hours for your food (which isn't even that good!) and then make you pay for it and threaten you if you don't! This place is nuts! read more

For a place that has Fat Sandwiches they are made really well, and not just all thrown on there from my experience. I ordered delivery to my school, and the sandwiches were made so neatly and stuffed with all the ingredients, tasted great too! The only downside is the delivery time and prep time, they said it would take up to an hour to an hour fifteen, and it took around an hour forty five and the school is only 15 minutes away. Understandable that it was probably busy but need to make sure specific times are mentioned and customers are called back if there will be a delay. Hurts your stomach waiting for food that long! I'm conflicted. The good: I really enjoy the junk food. The franks inferno is one of the tastiest sandwiches I've had and the hot wings with the suicide sauce will put any iron stomach to the test. The cheesesteaks, while not really up to par with pats, genos or jims in Philly, do the trick when you're looking for a Steak whiz. The bad: 50% of the time they mess up the delivery order. After waiting an hour for food to be delivered, you'd like some assurance that you won't be waiting another hour for the person to actually bring the correct order (to their credit, they do credit your order - but that doesn't put food in your stomach). I cut out the middle man and started going there to pick up my food - but if I don't check it, I'll end up with someone else's meal.
