Currently my favorite spot for crab in Cary!! This is the one spot where the sauce is super flavorful and actually has a kick! If you ask for extra spicy they will deliver. Personally prefer to carry out as this place is typically crowded- especially during the weekends. Plus who doesn't love getting elbows deep in crab in the comfort of your home?! I read about Cary Crab House in a rave Raleigh News & Observer review. My husband grew up in Florida and I grew up in Maryland, so we're both big seafood fans and were happy to hear about this place. Pros: The food was spot on! My husband got the king crab legs and I got the fried shrimp basket with sweet potato fries. Both were great - super fresh and the breading on the shrimp was crisp and light - almost tempura-like. Our server (and I wish I remembered her name but don't) was very attentive and friendly. Cons: You pay a good - but fair - price for quality seafood here...but you're *definitely* not paying for ambience. Although it's spotlessly clean space, it's all hard surfaces, just a big open room, cartoons on TV for the kids, etc. You get a big bucket with your paper napkins, wet wipes, tools (for my husband's crab legs), and your water comes in a plastic cup. Also, if - like my husband and me - you're a wine drinker, you're SOL. They have very few - and not very good - options. We asked our server if we could BYOB for our next visit. I took my family out there for my moms birthday and we live in Wilmington so there's not a place like this around us. We got there around 5 and it was too busy but it started to get busy around 7 and it was a Sunday night. Prices were kinda high and when I think seafood boil I think potatoes, corn, and sausage with a mixture of different seafoods but they didn't have that option here. They have 5 different combos shrimp w head and crab legs, shrimp with no heads and crab legs, shrimp with crawfish, clams and mussels and forgot the last one but I think that's the way to go rather then ordering pound by pound. Overall flavors were pretty good the first batch was right on the money second batch it was on the saltier side but it was when they got busy. I will surely return back to this place when I get back to Raleigh. read more

Where to begin... we used their online system to reserve a spot to "check in" via app. Insisted we had to be there by 7pm to check in, though seating wasn't available for another hour. The waitress seated us, took our food order. For the next hour we waited for the food to arrive. She never once stopped by to check on us, offer us refills. I was really excited to try Cary House because I love seafood, but I was a bit disappointed. I felt that it was a bit expensive and it wasn't as tasty as I expected. I'm a huge fan of shrimp with cocktail sauce and while the shrimp was meaty and a good flavor, their cocktail sauce had an extreme amount of horseradish in it that ruined it. I asked for a regular style cocktail sauce but they only have this high octane one that I couldn't eat. My crab legs were crisp and easy to break open to get the meat, but my daughter's was flimsy and not easy to eat. While the staff is friendly and the ambiance fresh, I think for that price there should have been more and with better sauce. Also, I found the structure of their menu limiting which minimized our choice. I don't see myself going back there to eat. read more

What a horrific experience. We sat down at the table tonight at 6:45pm. We ordered our food by 6:55pm. We left the restaurant at 7:55pm without ever having gotten any food. The excuse was that there was a table of 9 people ahead of us - so they couldn't make our food. Made no attempts at reparation at all. Any restaurant that can't make dinner (and we ordered crab in a place called Crab House) for more than 9 for over an hour should be out of business soon. So tonight instead of crab at a new place, we ended up with Chik-Fil-A 90 minutes later. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in the area! I usually get the snow crab legs and crawfish in the Big Bang sauce, hot, with extra lemons. My husband, who doesn't eat seafood, really enjoys the wings & fries! The service is hit or miss though. There are times when we wait over an hour to get our food, and the server is nowhere to be seen. Leaving our drinks empty and waiting ridiculously long to pay our check. To the point where we have to ask other servers to help. I can understand there being busy times (I grew up in the restaurant industry), but to not check in with customers is unacceptable. This was a cool experience, messy but worth it lol I took myself on a date and I tried the Shrimp w/Heads & Crawfish for $20! I sub the potatoes and sausage for corn and I'm glad I did. For my flavors, I tried the Big Bang, which is a mixture of Cajun, Garlic Butter & Lemon Pepper. And for my Spice Level, I chose Medium but next visit I'll probably try Hot. I really enjoyed it but from now on I'll only get shrimp without heads. They're Kinda spooky lol I did try their hushpuppies but they had either corn or onions inside and I was not a fan. Just had seafood from the Cary Crab House and I give it 4 stars. I had the mussels in the medium sauce which provide some spice but nothing unbearable and overall it was tasty. I liked how tender the red potatoes were and the corn was sweet which paired so well with the buttery spice in the bag. The mussels themselves were some of the biggest I've had. The only downside is I ordered a crab cake on the side and was disappointed as it was mostly filler. Overall I would visit again. read more

For the price of crab being $53.99 it was shocking to get my water with lemon in a styrofoam cup, plastic silverware, paper plates and (2) terrible meals. The crab was delivered in a bag. This place is one of the few places I can go for crab legs. I love the bucket full of crab legs that gets delivered to our table that has a paper sheet over it as a tablecloth. Dear Cary Crab House, I was very excited that you came to town (finally a casual crab place!) and reserving a special occasion (and place in my heart) for the trip. I was craving lobster and fish one day, so I said to heck with it! - and I came in on a weekday around 6pm while it was quiet. Perhaps I chose a poor day, but I regret ordering the crawfish. It wasn't fresh when I ate it, and yet I didn't want to compare it to the Louisiana crawfish boil that I have fond memories of. Plus, the price was great for the quantity. However, it was definitely not worth the stomach cramps and sleepless night afterwards. The "Big Bang" seasoning (spicy) that I ordered wasn't bad but the flavors definitely didn't get in - nor was it spicy. It was coated in butter which made it a mess. I did like the decor and gloves/bib touch. That was pure fun. (Be warned that the juices do go through the plastic gloves.) My husband ordered the crab legs with Cajun seasoning. This was much better. Still a buttery mess but it was eons better tasting than the crawfish. The shell was a bit soft to break so asking for a small fork helped. (If you have been to the "all you can eat crab legs" Tuesdays at Full Moon Oyster Bar, I have to give the award to them, though.) Came here on a Sunday for lunch. We were looking for a seafood place in Cary and I came across this place. Two of my friends had come here before. One of them loved it and another said food was ok and expensive. Anyways we came here and the waiter was very very friendly. We ordered king crab legs (Cajun sauce), lobster tails and mussels (Big Bang sauce which had everything, medium spicy, corn on the cobs). We also ordere hush puppies and sweet potato fries on the side. I would agree that the restaurant is on the expensive side and if each person orders a pound of something you would need other side dishes to be full. However, it's fair pricing for seafood. He was very funny and patient. We ordered the Fried Shrimp Basket for an appetizer followed by the Snow Crab w/ Shrimp no Head combo in the Big Bang sauce in medium (All the flavors) Everything came out fresh and hot. But honestly it didn't have any taste?? The spiciness was there but I can tell they short cut with no real butter in the sauce because there was no flavor. The corn was terrible. OMG we loved this restaurant so much!! We've been reluctant to go to a seafood place in the area because we're from the Outer Banks where seafood is very fresh and available but we couldn't resist the tasty looking pictures and great reviews. I highly recommend going for some amazing seafood! Two people can definitely share the combos - we ordered the headless shrimp and crab leg combo with an extra order of corn and half pound of sausage all thrown in that seafood bag. We got it with hot cajun seasoning. Oh man it was fantastic. Definitely had a kick and it was just so flavorful and fun. Everything was cooked perfectly. My only suggestion was maybe those tiny forks to help with that crab but with a bit of practice (and using other crab legs) we managed just fine without. We didn't take pictures really because there are already plenty of seafood in bags pictures lol which is exactly what it looks like. Delicious seafood and really good service! I am always craving seafood and really just can't get enough of a good seafood boil. I have been searching all of Raleigh and Charlotte for seafood boil locations and found the Cary Crab House. My beau and I ordered the fried soft skin crab shells, the shrimp and snow crab combo, an additional pound of shrimp, AND additional side of sweet potato fries and sausage. Oh my word, I am salivating just thinking about the food. The food portion was perfect for two people and I honestly think the best part of the entire meal was the fried soft skin crab shells and sweet potato fries. I am not even remotely a fan of fried food but it was cooked to perfection, crispy, and well seasoned. It was clearly made fresh upon order and was worth every penny. I would go back in a heart beat! Really tasty food, ordered thru Uber Eats, no problem with delivery, but what I got was "a plastic bag of food". No plates, no containers....PERFECT if I was at home, & had access to dishes. But I made it clear that I was at the Doubletree Hotel, and "needed utensils". (No option to ask for "plates" too, just assumed..... (my bad) And unless they KNEW I had a pocketknife, how did they expect me to eat the King Crab Legs? The single fork they sent would in no way work. The Cary Crab House was pretty good way more crab than you would get from one of those other chain restaurants. I got my food to go as I was alone and on a business trip. They double bagged the crab and then placed it in a brown paper bag. As I was waiting, the the place seemed to have consistent flow of customers coming in and out of the establishment. The wait times ranged from 25 - 40 mins. Cons - the girl at the front counter seemed to be slightly overwhelmed and a little unorganized. I saw them bring out my food and another guests food, I had to come up to the counter after 10 additional mins of watching my food on the counter to ask if that was my food - which it was. Not a super huge deal because the food was still warm when I got back to the hotel. The meal only comes with 1 corn or 1 potato not both you have to pay if you want more. Pros - the crab was very reasonably priced. I ordered 1lb of crab and 1/2lb of sausage and potato in garlic butter 1 spicy. It was cooked very well and seasoned nicely. This was an interesting experience that turned out horrible! The manager decided to wait our table of three. She took our orders. It took over 30 mins to receive our food but guess what... she forgot to place my order all together! Yep, you heard me right. She only placed 2 of 3 orders. She apologized saying it was her fault. She turned around and placed my order with the kitchen. Now, we are in 45 mins for my food to come. Understand, my two friends have been eating and I'm still sitting with no food. Do you know they started eating before me and after me?!? My food portion was smaller than theirs. When the tickets came, she didn't even give me a discount. I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect. This place will be extremely successful in its current location. It keeps it simple. Silver bucket with bag liner for your trash. Bibs to catch ANYTHING at misses your mouth. Gloves so while we're getting into the thick of our meal we keep our hands from being slathered in melted butter and seasonings. Paper plates and disposable forks. Paper cups. I love the simplicity of it. Nice ambiance. It's a overall grate experience with very tasty seafood. I didn't anticipate it would come out in a bag with butter spiced corn on the cob and potatoes piping hot and delicious. It's not inexpensive but it's well worth it. Enjoy. Just....no. Ordered fried oysters and they were horrible. They were mostly just batter. The only way I knew there were actual oysters in there was by the rancid taste. Very chintzy on the condiments. The hushpuppies were at least decent. The atmosphere was not what I would call welcoming--kinda like a bathroom stall in a college bar. The only reason I give it 2 stars is that the staff was nice.
