Their chips were stale and over fried. They had ONE option for a kids meal, which they could not alter. My 3 year old had to pick apart a giant taco which had a bland flavorless chicken. I asked for a small quesadilla, which the manager could not pass on. Seriously?! It would have cost less for them to put some cheese on a flour tortilla. My main meal was just ok, nothing great, the chili con carne was over salted and my tamale was dry. I was so shocked on how busy it was on a Tuesday night! I recently ate at here and was disappointed in the Ccurach of my order and the service afterwards (or lack thereof x 2). Here's why: I ordered a ground beef chimichanga, but what I got was a machaca chimi. When I reported it, the waitress asked me if I would just eat it - she never offered to replace it for what I ordered. I understood not wanting to waste,.so I said "I guess". I didnt want to be rude, but was also kind of shocked that not getting me what I ordered wasn't the first course of business for them. There was no offer to take it off the bill either. I ate a few bites, then asked for a box. There was just too much meat to finish it. I went home and the next day, wrote them a note on their website to ask for a refund or coupon. Two weeks went by with no answer, so I am posting here. I am guessing they don't care. My family lives very close to this place, and has eaten here for years. Went here for a to go order on 2 August, 2013. My dad, a 90-year-old WWII Veteran, got a ground beef chimi. Next morning he had food poisoning - and he's housebound and bedridden. We called the Health Department, and found out this place's last rating was "good." That means they had critical violations noted prior to the completion of the health inspection. I prefer to enjoy a meal and not have to be sick afterwards. Came here on a Sunday early dinner, was suggested by my mother in law as a new place to give a try. Thought hey, maybe I can sample another chili relleno and find a diamond in the rough. The place is located at the end of a strip mall at pantano and 22nd, I was assured that the place is way better than it looks. Very comfy, family owned, mexican style place. I noticed an all female staff, kinda cool. The menu is basic and so is the food. With all the options in town, this was an americanized version of sonoran style mexican. While the service here was decent and pretty efficient, the food was terrible. I went a couple of months ago with a group of 8, and no one was happy with the food. Most of the plates were smothered in yellow cheese. Luckily I got a taco plate and requested no cheese. The food was barely tolerable. I ate just enough to get myself through the rest of the work day. The server didn't even offer any of us a box for our leftovers - I think she knew that no one wanted to eat that food a second time. We will NEVER go here again!!! We had been there once before last Friday night. The service was great and the food was decent. It seemed like a place that we could become regulars at. That was until the last trip. We got there around 5:30pm and it was packed, which is to be expected at any restaurant on Friday night. I went in and asked what the wait time was and was told 30min which was great for how busy it looked. I asked to be put on the list and when I told them that we needed a table for 6 total with 2 highchairs, they immediately said no. So I asked for 1 highchair and a booster. I have been dining at this Restaurant since I moved to Tucson 15 years ago. My experience there tonight was absolutely horrific. Whoever hired the greeter/hostess should know that the "gatekeeper" should be one who is hospitable (as in hospitality). She didn't say hello and after dinner didn't say thank you or goodbye. I was regular customer!! Tonight Friday the waitress very rude I ask more guacamole she replied 250 or 450 I replied there is barely any guacamole on the chimichanga!! I've eaten here many times but this was the worst she was very loud started telling me about the owner!! I ordered the shredded beef chimi it was cooked well and the shredded beef was tasty. They top the chimi with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes guacamole and sour cream. You can order enchilada style if you wish for an extra charge. The portion size is big, you may have leftovers to take home. We ordered a cheese crisp with green chilies to share before our meal. It was very large and delicious. The service was good. They bring chips and salsa to the table when you're seated. The salsa has a good flavor...Not to hot. My roommate and I, way back when, used to eat here every week, and you know, when my husband and I went back a couple months ago, the same waitresses were there and the food tasted exactly the same. I love their chimis... they glue them to the plate with cheese. It sounds weird, but it is SO GOOD. Who doesn't like crispy fried tortilla with melty cheese. My family has been coming to Casa for years!! We love the food and the staff. They have the best salsa and chips! We enjoy getting the cheese crisp for an appetizer. The tortilla soup is amazing and the ground beef and cheese chimis are as well. Tip on the ground beef and cheese chimis, get cheese inside and out if you love cheese. I also enjoy to get a carne asada "chimi" without a tortilla, which sounds kind of weird, but it is a low carb option. Pretty much anything is yummy here... my Grandpa even used to love to get the cheese burger and fries. You cannot go wrong here. Casa Del Rio has always been a favorite. Visiting and living in Tucson over the last 20 years I have always made it a point to come eat here. Food has always been good and consistent. The chimichangas and salsa are the true winners here. I at here tonight and was quite disappointed. I've tried to convince myself that it was just an off night but I don't think see. There are a lot of new faces. We started with the cheese crisp topped with carne asada and that was the winner tonight. Collectively we had the shredded beef chimi, the muchaca (carne seca in the rest of Tucson and Sonora) taco, chicken taco, rice and beans. The chimi was good as always. The muchaca was like roast beef, not true muchaca, and tasted an awful lot like the regular shredded beef. The chicken taco was super bland and pretty wet. The beans were good while the rice responded as with a great big meh. I gave it three strars because of the history of consistently good food. I'll go back within the next few weeks to try again but It was hard not to give it a 2 star rating. read more

We recently visited this near by restaurant over the weekend, food was okay. I wouldn't say it was one of the best places I have been to. I ordered the Chimichanga and my mother ordered the chili con carne and a flauta. We also ordered side beans and rice. Food was NOT authentic Sonoran style food as they claim, it was very much an American version of Mexican food. Service was fast and they had so-so customer services. After I just completed the job, I drove past this establishment and it was off the beaten path. When I pulled up to the restaurant a waiters came out the door with the menu and a mask dude covid-19. I ordered some food and he said it would be out in 10 minutes. I didn't have much time so 10 minutes was good and it was there and actually probably about nine minutes. Years back I was a regular patron. Asked a friend if he'd ever been, he said not in a long time as it was less than par then. However, he said let's go they have what you desire to eat Chicken Tortilla soup. His parents immigrated and raised their family here. He is what I consider to be the foremost authority on Mexican food. I felt horrible for even suggesting this place the food was atrocious, the atmosphere was terrible, the service was forced, clumsy, and unwelcoming. I was asked if I wanted more ice tea I said NO thank you but received a refill regardless when she returned. My friend had to ask for his additional food. The tortilla soup was broth with chicken, cheese, and some strips of tortilla and nowhere near the comfort food, it is supposed to be. Casa Del Rio was once known for their Chimi city wide, I even commented how empty for a Friday night at 7:30 as we walked in seated immediately. My friend's food was as ordered but so terrible he didn't even finish the chimi. From my view, it was dry and not appetizing I could tell he was choking it down. I won't ever return to this place. Unfortunately, I have to write a review on poor customer service. Not only did they mess up my call in order, I work in customer service so I was specific and clear, the girl who took my order kept telling me I ordered something completely different. I had to stop the conversation, and said, that is OK can I get my chimichangas, they put the order in. I had to wait, again, for my food to get ready. When we got home, we are missing parts of our order. When I called to let her know of the mistake, she said OK and nothing else. I asked to speak with the manager, he told me that my meal does not come with rice and beans even though I specifically asked the girl three times that I wanted rice and beans. I did not mind paying extra. The manager said OK with no other resolution than wanting us to drive back to get it. I guess I am the only customer that has asked for rice and beans with their chimichanga, because I was reminded, a few times, that it does come with that even though I asked for it. I ordered the chicken fajita. It came with plenty of chicken, onions, and peppers. There was no sour cream, cheese, guacamole, or any other condiments. It did come with beans, that was either over cooked or sitting for a long time. I asked about the condiments and was told it did not come with anything else. I tried to eat it but it was so dry I couldn't finish it. I boxed it up and had to eat it at home with my own condiments. I ask the lady at the register why no condiments? She said most places have them, but they don't. I asked why and she did not know. They seemed satisfied with their response and it seemed they were not concerned with my question.
