I am kind of depressed that in all four years at usc, I had never once been to this place. I had my first meal there ever this weekend as a recent alum, and was blown away! My friends and I went in late, ten minutes before they were meant to close, but the girl at the register was so sweet and nice, and gave us absolutely stellar customer service. The ambiance was chill inside, and their decor is definitely unique - but in the best way. Chill, yet tasteful. My kinda spot! In terms of food, my one friend got the lomo saltado, which was flavorful, savory, and delectable (or at least, I thought so, with my couple stolen bites from his plate). Another friend and I shared a chicken quesadilla, which they literally stuffed chock full of chicken. SWEET. They are the opposite of stingy with their portions here, and you'll leave feeling like a ball of deliciousness. Worth it? Yes. For SURE. Had a hard time reaching the restaurant when I tried to call for delivery, so I had to wait over an hour for lunch when ordering lunch for my bosses and coworkers for administrative appreciation day. But everyone raved that the food was simply great, a lot of food for the buck which is great for students living near campus. This joint is right by my LA office...I have to say, the name is deceiving... This place offers a fusion of Latin dishes and I have to say, I have yet to be disappointed... I've tried the pulled chicken sandwich, the Californian, and the half chicken meal...the platanos are always on point as well...the rice is delicious, as well as the black beans...the lomo saltado is also amazing...looking forward to working my way through the menu, but like I said, nothing has disappointed... This was recommended to me by a friend. When I arrived at 3:30 pm and there was absolutely no parking. Parking is VERY limited!! I ordered my food with salad and asked for extra dressing. They charged me .50 PER DRESSING. The extra charge was not the problem but the fact that they would charge for extra dressing. The taste of the wood fire gives it a smoked flavored along with the green salsa that comes with the chicken make for a wonderful lunch meal. I got the pulled chicken rotisserie club and it was great. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned. I also got the chili cheese fries, but they weren't the best. The fries were thick cut, but not crispy fried. Too much chili and too little cheese. I would recommend getting the club if you are trying the restaurant for the first time. This place was recommended by the nurse at the orthopedic institute clinic for children in Los Angeles. He said its better than Five Guys. So we were like ok, we'll check it out. I had the teriyaki Hawaiian burger and omg the pineapple was grilled to perfection with smokey flavor and the grilled onions too! Omg I think I could eat 2 whole teriyaki Hawaiian burgers myself! Too damn good! My husband ordered the Tex Mex Burger and triple western burger. I have never seen my husband's face light up like that when he took a bite into the burger. So delicious and packed with flavor! I totally recommend this place to anyone and everyone! The owner said Kessler [USC QB] dines there as well as some former SC players and current. While dining there, we ran into Toa Lobendahn (SC Football player, OT) He was kind enough to chat with us and took a picture with my husband. I have been going here since they first opened and the food was amazing then and I didn't think it was possible to improve amazing. I describe this restaurant as a Latin fusion restaurant. There are dishes that are Cuban style, some Peruvian style and American with some Latin twists. The staff is always so friendly. On Wednesday I had the Lomo Saltado. I have had the Camaron Saltado and their Pollo al Mojo de Ajo. Omg! Everything is absolutely delicious. Very flavorable, juicy and good size portions. I always have left overs. Caveman chicken club sandwich from caveman kitchen is one of the few things that kept me wanting to go to school everyday for the last 4 years of my PhD at USC. Their service is very unpredictable, time for cooking is terribly long, not high on ambience, but, when the chicken sandwich with fries and their proprietary green sauce hits your mouth, you forget all the deficiencies of the place.
