Renovating, but why so dirty at the tables?
    Kevin F.

My coworker and I like to find places open late and Cedar Geill came up. I had visited before several years ago at a previous location. I wasn't aware on this visit that they had moved until I got there. The sign says La Mirage Cafe, so I called to confirm I was in the right location. The friendly voice assured me we were and that they were open. When we walked in we were greeted by a lady who let us know she only spoke Spanish. So we had to try to keep our order simple and uncustomized. For an appetizer, I ordered a fried ball of dough with ground beef inside...keffe or something like that. I didn't care for it, but that doesn't affect my ratings since I didn't really know what to expect. Difference in taste and all that. I also ordered a chicken kebab wrap which was very good. My coworker seemed to enjoy her food (hummus and something else I don't remember). All in all, the reason for the low score was not for the food, but because I think they need signage (even temporary) to let the public know who/where they are, someone who speaks English enough to take a full order, and cleanliness (see picture). Also, we weren't checked on hardly at all and we didn't know whether to pay at the table or at the register so we waited quite a while to get someone's attention to take our money. I would like to try back in a few months when they're hopefully done renovating.

    Lamb shish kabob plate.

I got the lamb shish kebab plate. The meat was burnt, rubbery and so salty it was almost inedible, even after drowning it in the garlic sauce. The rice was alright. The Mediterranean salad did not have any dressing on it so it was bland. The best part is the dish was the dolmas and I'm pretty sure they were store bought.

Finally got to try. Unfortunately I had to Uber it. I feel by the time I get the food it takes away a little from the quality. Still very good. Got the mixed gyro and it was good. The rice was great. I added a chicken noodle soup thinking eh, it will be basic. The chicken noodle soup was the star. Not to take away from everything else but it just stood out. It was really really good. Definitely try this place and don't forget the soup. You won't be disappointed. Thanks y'all.

SO DISAPPOINTED! We saw this place on Instagram on the @bestfoodsanantonio so we decided to give it a try. We ordered takeout and went inside to pick up and NONE of the employees were wearing masks! This is a time where it's mandatory so this was upsetting to see. Then we get home and open our takeout containers and instant disappointment. We barely got any chicken!! My plate had so much cold rice and only 6-7 pieces of chicken! It was so bland and dry, I had to drown it in the hummus. And then not to mention the bread tasted old. I am so upset we wasted our gas and money to come here for this

Disappointed. 4 thin slices of meat on a gyro. Couldn't even taste the meat. Also super confusing to find this place. It's cedar grill online, but outside it's listed as the mirage.. or something like that. There is an actually "cedar grill" up the road, but it's a Pakistan restaurant- not cedar grill. Will likely never be returning.

Driving by, I never would have expected the kitchen to turn out Mediterranean dishes based on the lodge-style exterior. Menu was a pleasant surprise of sandwiches, soups, kabobs, and apps. It's unclear whether there is table service or if you are supposed to walk up and order (which I did), as there is no posted menu and you seem to have to return to the counter to pay (rather than paying as you order). Bit of an unusual setup. Opted for the mixed grill plate (three different types of kabob with rice, salad, and hummus for $15), with a minor substitution (sub additional salad for the rice). Order took 20 minutes and I didn't get rice or additional salad. The steak kabobs were best, the other two were extremely dry, especially the chicken. Hummus lacked flavor, but I liked how the salad included bell peppers. Long story short, there are better options in town. Staff needs to try harder. Service was limited, other patrons had to get up repeatedly to get additional items (takeout boxes, silverware) as staff did not come out to check on tables.

Nice quiet place close to my work. I love Middle Eastern Food and wanted to try this place. Good price for lunch special. Gyro, beef or chicken is $6.99. I was super hungry so I also ordered a side of Falafel. I like the upbeat Arabic music. The soup had flavor and did not need salt or pepper. The Beef gyro had very generous portions of beef, onion , tomato and sauce. No need to request extra. The Pita was super fresh and soft. I got there right when they opened and by the time my order was ready they were really filling up.

The eggplant starter was a good way to fire up our tastebuds. For entrees, I went with the Mixed Gill for one and wifey added the Iskender Kabob, which we just ended up pushing to the middle of the table to share. The combination of spiced meats and vegetables was delicious and worth the try. The Yelp pictures show a full on bakery, however this is misleading because the extensive selections are actually at the restaurant owner's other place, La Cafe, and not here. So we passed on dessert and opted to drive another 10 minutes away to Baklava Bakery for a wider selection of choices. The inside of the restaurant is a bit small and modest, but comfortable enough to enjoy a hearty meal.

The pide bread has a nice crust and gave the satisfying crunch when you bite into it. I can eat just the bread alone. But as you bite the portion with the cheese and meat, wow!! It's awesome! All the grilled meats were very tasty. Usually chicken is the least tasty in Mediterranean grill but over here they really know what they were doing. Happy with our selections. Complimentary bread and dip is a plus. The dip is really good. Too bad the server couldn't tell the name of this dip, he just said it's house made. They can certainly create a name to avoid confusion. Service can be improved, thus 4 stars. 1. The store is open until 9pm but kitchen is closed at 8:15om. I see a few people got turned away because the sign said they were open but they can't take their order? What are people supposed to do if they come at 8:15 and get in? Have a drink? They have no alcohol license yet as of July 2026. I don't know if they have food that's microwaveable that can be served after 8:15. 2. They don't provide water unless you ask, they only have water bottle for $1 each. They could have said this when they take your order: "Anything to drink?" But they don't ask if you want anything to drink at all. I saw other tables also don't have a drink.

Our waitress was warm and extremely helpful. It was surprising. Let me explain why. I don't know if it's a cultural thing. I may be wrong, but a lot of middle eastern/Indian/Mediterranean restaurants we visit, the staff at times can seem cold and non engaging. You will see in a review for a place we recently visited how bad it was, later. I made a point to get the wonderful young ladies name, but I will not butcher it, but sound it out. Sa-va-ti. She was amazing. We started off our meal with some of the best hummus we've had in quite awhile. It was perfectly flavored and had great texture. We also started off with falafel, which we all love, but it was missing just a tad more spices. It was fried to an absolutely wonderful crisp. The pickled veggies that came along were a surprising table hit. They were very good. Then mains, we had the Kahramana Burger, and the Kahramana Mix Kabob plate. Let's start with the burger. It was different. Don't get me wrong, it was good different. It just took a minute to get over the beef patty having the consistency of meat loaf. Once we got over it, it was dam tasty. Good bun to meat ratio and a sauce like I've never had. This place also managed to cook great fries. Two places in a row for us! Makes me wonder what the other places in town are doing wrong? To the star of the star of the show. The mix kabob plate was AMAZING! Best lamb I've ever had anywhere. It was not too gamey, seasoned just right, and they got the medium cook on it spot on! I wish I had ordered just lamb. The beef skewer was also great, but the lamb stole the whole plate. The chicken was our least fav. It was a tad under seasoned and had a somewhat grainy texture. It was falling apart. The rice was good too! It came with a small hummus and this delicious garlic sauce! We were dipping the fries in it! Get this they still bring you all the bread you want! It's hard to explain the bread. It's like a pita/naan hybrid, and we couldn't get enough of it! We stopped our meal early, loaded up our to go boxes, so we could try the baklava. It's wasn't bad, we've had better. Check this out...they bring you complimentary Iraqi tea at the end of your meal? Or maybe it was just for us? Who knows? It's was perfect with the baklava! I can't even explain how excited we are to revisit and try other items! Bravo!
