This was a great Peruvian find for us in South Beach! I went here for lunch with friends. It was probably not the best idea to order ceviche early morning after all night of partying. My opinion on it is probably biased cause we found Ceviche de pescado very fishy and sour for hangover lunch. However, We all enjoyed their large glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. The peruvian style chicken friend rice was very good and the grilled seafood platter deserves a solid 5-Star. I would love to go back again just for that grilled seafood platter. We were thrilled to have found this spot close to South Beach. The food and service was excellent and easily the best we have had this week in a town with so many great restaurants. We were hoping to enjoy some Pisco, but instead enjoyed a delicious Sangria. My wife had Pescado con Mariscos, and I had Aguadito Mixto a delicious cilantro lime soup w seafood. I would go back again just to order the same. You might walk by this place and not stop as it does not have the same Miami Beach style with outdoor seating, but don't be fooled and enjoy some authentic Peruvian cooking. read more

Chalan Steps Up to the Plate and Hits a HOME RUN! My wife and I decided to eat at Chalan for some evening Peruvian fare. Normally Im not a huge fan of some of the restaurants in the more "touristy" areas as we are South Beach locals, but we had tried Chalan before and liked it. Im a glad we went again... By far the biggest plus was the service. Our waitress, Gloria was friendly and more than attentive. She took EXCELLENT care of us and made sure our every need was met. She even cleaned the table for us near the end of the meal, NICE TOUCH! We started with the Ceviche Mixto. A MUST TRY!! It was among the best I have ever had outside of home cooking. All the seafood was prepared perfectly with a good mix of squid, octopus shrimp and fish. Even the corn and salad with a perfectly seasoned broth truly whet our appetite for dinner. I could have eaten several portions and I am VERY picky about my Ceviche. They also bring out HOT dinner rolls (also good) with a spicy green dipping sauce. For dinner I chose the Peruvian Style fried rice and chicken (Chaufa Pollo). It is similar to what you might find in a Chinese restaurant, but MUCH better. A BIG portion with lots of rice and large perfectly cooked pieces of chicken. There is also a mixed dish called Chaufa Mixto al "Chalan" with seafood chicken and shrimp which I would love to try next time. Be prepared to take some home, you might not be able to finish your portion! My wife had the Tallarin Saltado De Mariscos..a seafood combinaton with pasta. Also very, very good. It also comes in large portion as well, so although prices are a bit high (though not unusually so considering it IS South Beach) you do get your moneys worth. We did not have desert simply because we were too full from our great meal, though I will DEFINITLY be trying the deserts the time we come back and we WILL be back. If you are looking for some great Latin American cooking on Washington Avenue in South Beach I HIGHLY recommend Chalan, you WONT be disappointed! read more

I used to come to Miami a lot whenever I visited Miami in my 20's (which must have been like 8 times) and I always made Chalan on the Beach a pit stop. Sometimes I just want something different than Cuban food or American and Peruvian food and its ceviche hits the spot! While the prices have increased, it is understandable since so has everything else but the quality continues being spot on. You get plenty of food and the warm rolls they provide are so yummy. Even my extremely picky kids eat here without a problem. The service is also very good and attentive. The only thing that I disliked was that their cafe con leche came in a tiny mug and honestly, was not as good as other places I have tasted in the Miami area. All in all though, I recommend this place to anyone who wants to taste something from this rich cultural country that is Peru. They do have a special spicy green salsa to go with their yuca a la huancaina which is amazing! The service was very quick and super friendly. Me and my husband ventured another seafood restaurant around Lincoln road area. Since we are following a low carb lifestyle and at the same time not eating meat for 45 days, the food we ate met our low carb eating habits. Since it's our first time here, my husband forgot to request not to include the rice in the food he ordered which was chupe de camarones. Eventually, he was able to set aside the rice while enjoying the good taste of the food he had. I had pescado con mariscos with salad on the side. The food was great. We had ceviche for starter and tostones as well. Food price was not that so expensive but, I guess this is a tourist area, there was a South Beach tax a top from regular tax we paid on the bill.Our server was also very attentive and we like the service too. read more

The fish and shrimp in this Ceviche de Pescado was super tender and tasty. A sizable amount of fish with four excellent sides, including two tasty corn items, and cold sweet potatoes infused with cinnamon. Most likely the best dish of our trip to Miami Beach was the Lomo Saltado (4 stars), a dish of super tender sautéed beef sitting in its amazing juices with a side of rice. I came here recommended by the people of yelp. Well I am leaving very satisfied!!! The overall experience was great and the amount of food for the price was out of this world. I was only able to eat half of my dish because of how much was served and I'm a guy. The waiter for the most part was very attentive and very helpful. The service was very fast I would say as well, my overall wait was probably only 5 to 10 minutes for my food to come out. I ordered a 'chaufa mixto' and a 'tres leche with lucoma'. The desert wasn't my favorite but I still enjoyed it. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 is because I am big on getting napkins while I eat, which I really didn't get. Good food, good pricing, nice size portions. They have authentic Peruvian style dishes. While we were down here in Miami I was recommended to try some local Peruvian restaurants. I enjoyed their dishes here because they have a wide range of flavors and spices which is nice because it's not like your usual foods you eat. I had tried their Ceviche Mixto, which was pretty good. It's sauce is spicy but has a lot of flavor. Second, we had the Pescado Con Mariscos, which I really enjoyed. It's a Peruvian Fish, cooked crispy and covered with a lot of seafood, and a really rich sauce. Was my favorite!! For Desert, we had their Susprios A La Lemina. Was very rich, creamy and sweet. If you have a sweet tooth that's what I would recommend. The location, service was okay. It has a old school diner feel to it. Wow! Visiting here from LA & being Peruvian you hear Miami has the best Peruvian food. Didn't plan eating here, walk past it & had to stop in. Reasonable prices & amazing portions ! We get here right when it opened at 11 ( on a Saturday) , they were right on it ! Took our order and in less than 10 minutes our food was at our table. My mom got arroz Chaufa de mariscos & she loved it ( such a big plate, didn't finish it) . They had fresh mariscos ( seafood) . Dad got the pescado a lo macho- he left nothing on the plate, literally!! Fresh & well portioned as well. I got a soup, parihuela. Great restaurant - we've spent a few weeks in Peru so we know what authentic Peruvian tastes like. They take reservations so call ahead if you know that you'll arrive at a specific time. Be forwarded that not everyone's English is very good so you may have to speak very slowly and articulate using simple words. The staff was fantastic. We walked right into our reserved table and settled in right away. The high chair provided for my son was very clean. My wife and I ordered the seafood ceviche to share and it was excellent. The fish (didn't ask what kind it was), shrimp, octopus, and calamari all tasted very fresh. We shared the lomo saltado as the main and it too was excellent. Lots of chunks of beef and a savory sauce. The only thing not 5 star about this place was the lack of offering a fresh pisco sour. It was also really good so we powered through and finished them both. There wasn't a thing we would change; everything was great. I love Tallarines Verdes and I always order it at any Peruvian Restaurant. This has been by far the highest price I've paid for the dish, but I figured it must be great! WRONG! For any price it was horrible. The pasta had no flavor whatsoever and it barely had any sauce. I tasted absolutely no cheese and the meat was super thin and bland.
