Unlimited meat, meat, more meat & whaaaat..thrifty ice cream?? All for $18.99?? Count me IN! Tasty banchan (sides) are brought out while your meats are a sizzlin'. Glass noodles, fish cake, broccoli, & the spicy pickled cucumbers were among the faves. Went for dinner and there are 2 AYCE options - an $18.99 & $21.99 menu. Opted for the $18.99 as the go to's are always brisket, pork belly, and beef belly. Enjoyed the 2 cuts of pork belly - thin (think brisket thin) and diamond cut (like thicker cuts of bacon). Both were deeelish especially when dipped in their house sauces. Enjoyed the slight jalapeño kick in the soy-based dipping sauce. Oh, and FYI - you can ask for the sesame oil/salt dipping sauce if it's not already laid out for you. Don't be shy, you'll get addicted to that combo! My belly was a happy camper wrapping up all these delectable meats in the unending rice paper/pickled radish slices. Yum!!! And to top off the meal, you get ice cream! You can scoop your own ice cream cone from the many choices of Thrifty's ice cream at the little ice cream station towards the back of the restaurant. I haven't actually been to the Beach Blvd location, I've only been to the Garden Grove location. However, I've heard they're very much alike. With that being said, I LOVE this place. Like I vow to never ever go to another KBBQ spot until I die or if his place ever burns down (luckily there are two & knock on wood that it doesn't actually happen.) I came here after traveling from Vegas and I was starving. The meat and egg pot were really tasty. I ordered a yogurt soju but it tasted more like soda rather than soju. My biggest concern and reason for my low star rating is because of their self serve ice cream. After my meal I was excited to get some ice cream when I spotted a group of 3 kids practically hanging inside the fridge. They were reaching into the barrels with the scoopers trying to get to the bottom. That's when I saw one of the kids scoop the ice cream, eat it off the SCOOP and proceeded to put it BACK INTO THE TUB OF ICE CREAM. I was very disgusted and worried for the rest of the customers because there wasn't anybody supervising the people handling the ice cream. Don't let the interior or exterior deter you. This AYCE BBQ place may not be the most appealing inside compared to newer BBQ spots but the meat quality and flavor is good! They have an A and B option. I would recommend opting for Option B since it's only $20.99 (versus $18.99 for Option A). My fave cuts are LA Kalbi, chadol, joomulook and gotsal. The meats were not fatty like most ayce places that skimp on quality. The joomulook was well marbled. You'll need to ask for the ssamjjang and sesame oil/salt mixture but the servers are more than happy to bring it to you. The servers are all very polite and attentive always checking up on you and asking if you need anything. Don't be afraid to ask for larger or smaller portions of things you want to try. First off, the meat was pretty good quality. We had different cuts. Of pork, beef, chicken and octopus. All of it was tasty and seemed very fresh. The banchan, though minimal, was also good. I dropped this place a star based on the overall jankiness of the restaurant. The floor and walls seemed dirty. Paint was chipped and there were holes in the walls. They have a ice cream freezer in the middle of the restaurant. It was sloppy and dirty both inside and out. Kind of grossed me out watching customers including kids hand dip their own cones. The meat was decent, but the service was exemplary. For a place that closes very late at night, I was impressed that they still allowed people to come in 30 minutes before closing time. I saw a huge party of 5+ get seated close to their closing time and accepted orders past their last call. Since it was a last minute decision to pick a kbbq place open so late, I wasn't very picky with the meat. Had three to four plates of brisket, small intestines, and three plates of pork belly. Some pickled sprouts. The potato salad looked Japo style, but shit was sweet. The kimchi cucumbers were good. The cabbage kimchi, was foul. Our server said his name was Bryan. He's lying. You and I know it's Byung. He recommended the egg soup. The egg soup looked more like an omelet in a cast iron bowl. Shit looked weird. But you know what, it was pretty damn good. I didn't even mind the weird puffy sponge-like egg texture. It's not a custard. It's poofed up, wet, scrambled eggs. Then this hot chick comes over and just dumped meat on our grill and said enjoy. Brisket, pork belly, chicken, and spicy pork. No bulgogi to be seen. You may have to request it. That way you won't be denied sucking on them bones and chewing cartilage and other connective tissue. Indulge and be prepared to get your money's worth. I'd recommend coming very hungry. Running around at Knott's for the day would likely be a sufficient appetite builder. A slightly upgraded option B with more/different meats is also available for $19.99. With either option, you get AYCE of said meats, side dishes, and your choice of steamed egg, bean soup, or spicy tofu soup. When I want great quality meat without having to wait for hours, I'll come here. However, I think many people have realized that, too and the wait has become a problem during the hot nights (Fri + weekends). The price is standard so no surprise there. I do appreciate how their AYCE menu consisted of steamed egg, kimchi fried rice, and tofu soup which not other places offer. I'm a super big fan of the steamed egg so it was wonderful that it wasn't 1 order / customer. Unlimited steamed egg, Oh whuuuuut?! Way to go Cham Soot Gol! The kimchi fried rice was also not to be overlooked. It was a perfect individualized portion. There's no sunny side egg on top, or else it would be exactly restaurant quality. On the other hand, the tofu soup was alright. The paste used a little off and too salty to my taste. The meat was great as noted. Beef belly was my favorite for the night. Tender and marinated well. Usually I don't like the seafood aspect of KBBQ, but the spicy shrimp was an exception. Shrimp did not taste frozen nor old. And then the brisket. You have yourself a very good night. My only complaint was how they RAN OUT OF RICE PAPER, before we sat down. Without rice paper automatically does not qualify as KBBQ imo. So pleeeeease, never ever run out of rice paper. Customers will go crazy. There's no service button as Korean restaurants have. It wasn't a problem because the waiters are constantly walking around. Easy to flag and the turnaround time was fast. Grill change was initiated by them instead of us. A good end was the self serve ice cream. They provide four flavors. Like any self serve, the station could get messy. We always love coming here. Out of all the KBBQ places in the area (trust me their are a ton) this is the most consistent and is priced pretty reasonably. Cham soot Gol has many servers and they are all very attentive to you needs. The meats are pretty good. The quality of the meat is more tender than other places in the area. Brisket is aways the go to because it is light and doesn't have too much fat. It will allow you to get you moneys worth and eat as much as you can. The egg pot is also one of my favorite parts of the meal. You can get as many as you want and they are very flavorful. Wait times can be pretty long here especially one weekends. If you plan to go with a bigger party, you should get there earlier than six if you do no want to wait in the crowds. There is no time limit and best of all....ice cream! read more

Probably the best Korean BBQ place I've ever been to (not an exaggeration), and I've gone all over Koreatown and SFV. The meat is very, very good with a nice assortment that includes duck, shrimp, and garlic pork belly (the former two I did not try). So great meat, check. The service was phenomenal. The entire staff was friendly and attentive; and even other servers who did not serve me and my girlfriend helped service any requests we had. Great service, check. This is a relatively new restaurant, but you would never know. There were no kinks to be worked out and everything seemed to be running really smoothly. When we got there at 6pm on a Sunday, the place was bustling, but there was no wait. The service was really good and the meat was extremely tasty. They had a great banchan selection and as me and my friends were gobbling them down, they were quickly replenished. At one point the owner himself came by to ask us how everything was. I love that! (an extra star for that!) The most amazing thing about this place, they have Thrifty ice cream that is free and unlimited! There's this little fridge in the back with 4 different flavors that they switch out and you get to scoop your own ice cream onto cones. I had Chocolate Malted Crunch (homage to my childhood) and another scoop of Pistachio. Then I got another cone with one more teeny scoop of Cookies n Cream for the road. Don't judge me for getting 2 cones. Everyone's doing it. This is definitely a pretty bad AYCE Korean BBQ place. My boyfriend and I went, because he lives next door and the glowing yelp reviews. I'm not sure what people are thinking, but here's the basic rundown: - Beef tounge was too rubbery. - The pork belly was also chewy for some reason. It didn't melt in your mouth like pork belly should. Uhg. - Short ribs were mediocre. - Brisket was probably the "best" item there. - Shrimp was old and not fresh. - The banchan was awful and there wasn't any kimchee. What kind of self respecting Korean restaurant doesn't serve kimchee? - The steamed egg (and I don't even know how one could mess up such a simple dish) was chunky and burnt on the bottom leave a weird burnt egg taste. - The spicy sauce tasted more like Chinese chile paste with some gochujang mixed in. Isn't it supposed to be ALL gochujang? - You don't get the sesame oil with the salt and pepper mixed in automatically unless you ask for it. - The backs of the chairs were sticky so when you leaned forward, your shirt wouldn't lean with you. Wow this place has great reviews! And when I saw the name, I honestly thought they were affiliated with the Chamsootgol in Rowland Heights, so off we went. Wait time on a Friday night is about an hour so plan accordingly especially because I do not think they take reservations. The place is nicely decorated. For the price, this place will suffice for the most discerning KBBQ goer. $20 for the "premium package" and $9 for 10 & Under. I was in the area with some friends and decide to give this place a shot because "quantity over quality" was a little more important with the size of this group. Else, we would have gone to KHD up the street. Meat choices were okay. The sliced brisket was good. The sliced pork belly was also a fave. The kalbi was less than desirable. The egg pot was a hit. We had a few other beef dishes that were on-par with other AYCE places. The side dishes were hit and miss. Some tasted okay, and some tasted like the freshness had been compromised. 3-different types of Korean beer, and some soju. Not great, but acceptable. The restaurant should have told us that gratuity was going to be included with the bill. But, since service was actually good, we didn't bring it up. Only thing different is that they are closed during the day Monday through Friday, so they open at 5pm BUT BUT they stay open until 12am! Gyeah!!! They are open during the day on weekends BUT BUT they stay open until 1:30am!!! Double GYEAH!!! Came here on a Wednesday night about 9pm. EMPTY. All that means is that we had the restaurant alllllll to ourselves. The waitresses were at our beck and call. I felt like a king with servants because the waitresses and waiters were there whenever we needed them. Refill on water, rice paper, or hot sauce....they always came back to refill. The meat tasted the same as the Garden Grove restaurant so nothing changed. They had 4 different flavors on ice cream that night and it was alllllll to ourselves. So spread the word, tell all your family and friends, there is a Cham Soot Gol in Buena Park so they don't close down like the last 4 Korean BBQs that were placed there. They are open later than the Garden Grove one so that has got to be a plus! read more

VERY attentive service. I came here for my friend' bday and our party of 7 was seated very quickly (that's the benefit of coming early, 5:30 PM). The restaurant itself is small but the floorplan is great, which translates into a minimal amount of "butt to back of head" issues. Haha, okay okay, enough about the floorplan.... lets get into the food! The quality and marinade is very good, again for Korean AYCE I always felt Cham stands in the upper eschelon when it comes to taste. The cuts are definitely fresh which makes a HUGE difference when it comes to taste. My biggest peeve is when you can tell from the stench that the meat has been sitting out for a long period of time. Even deep into the night hours when the restaurant gets packed you can expect service to maintain its attentiveness. Our servers were always at at tables to ensure we had everything we needed and whenwe rang the bell we had a response almost instantaneously. HELLS YEAH!!! I'm glad to have found a Cham near my work, I definitely will be back to this location every chance I get. I'm lucky enough to be close to the Rowland Cham as well, but I believe the Cham Soot Gol there isn't to my liking since the environment is a bit more "cloggy". P.S. don't forget about the ICE CREAM!!! Again, I love to eat my ICE CREAM on a cone w/ a piece of brisket on top... haha, kinda gross? I guess so, but damn is it delicious (to me). read more

I didn't even know this CSG existed until Fia R invited me to a PYE the other day, and it seems I'm not the only one in the dark about it. The restaurant itself is spacious, but it was only at about half capacity the night we were there. So it's either for that reason or simply because they're that awesome, but the service was impeccable... and that says a lot considering we're talking about a Korean restaurant. If you're not Korean or if your ability to speak the language is limited and you feel uncomfortable dealing w/ servers whose English isn't great, then this would be the perfect place to go to; all of the servers are completely fluent in English and they're on top of their game throughout the course of your meal. Other Yelpers have listed the meat options, so I'll keep this short and just say that the wait is nonexistent (at least for now), the restaurant is clean, the service is terrific (as mentioned earlier) and the food is good and is the same as the GG location, in case you were wondering. The icing on the cake for this dining experience was attending my first Yelp event and meeting some of my fellow Yelpers. Thanks for organizing Fia! read more

I like this place. Service is kinda slow though. Even if you get seated right away you might have to wait a while before you get serve. I usually munch on the side dishes while i wait for them to bring me meat. Then they bring the tofu soup after you started eating your meat. It would be nice to have the tofu soup first, so I can enjoy my soup while my meat is cooking. I have been to this place like 3 times. Usually, I come hungry so i'm like chowing down on the sides, which pretty much becomes my entree and my meat becomes the side. Maybe they do that on purpose. Fill us up on the cheaper stuff. Dear KBBQ AYCE fans, Why on earth do you keep going to Cham Sut Gol in Garden Grove? Yes, I understand it's the "original" and it's been around forever, but... really?! Did you even know there was another in Buena Park? I bet you didn't. I won't make you raise your hand, but I will ask that you seriously consider going to the one in Buena Park instead. It's the same restaurant (for the most part) except better, in a lot of ways. 1) Better service. GG is not "bad" per se, but the service in Buena Park is GOOD. They're prompt, their servers speak fluent English, they refill banchan, offer more meat, bring you more water, and don't forget things you've asked for. GOOD service is hard to find in an AYCE location 2) More convenient location (right off the 5 freeway) - this is obviously dependent on where you're coming from, but I think it's way more convenient than the one in GG (plus, you get to avoid the hectic craziness of everyone/everything out and about in GG) 3) Cleaner, newer, better-ventilated restaurant. Simple enough. 4) *knocks on wood* Still relatively unknown (300ish reviews on Yelp vs the 1000+ for GG) so the waits are shorter and fewer crowds still. 5) Same prices, quality of meat (decent), and ice cream! (4 flavors when we were there - rocky road, cookies & cream, green tea, strawberry) Veggie/vegan note: AYCE restaurants are definitely not the best place for folks who don't eat meat, but they do have other menu options--just ask. I've gotten the ddukgook (rice cake soup) which was okay--nothing to write about (and I definitely wouldn't go back just for that) but I don't think most people come here for it. Not sure what happened here. I've been to the Garden Grove location a few times and this one a few times, but my experience this Saturday was mediocre at best. My sister and I came in the awkward post lunch time (2:30) which means we automatically got charged dinner prices ($20 each). Okay, Our service was fine, and we ordered a variety of dishes - beef rib, bulgogi, brisket, etc. But everything just tasted...okay. Not great. Not that fresh? It was hard to tell. All I know is that my stomach did not feel good later (and neither did my sister's). Maybe I just caught a bad day? Who knows? All I know is that I'm sad because I love their side dish options (so many and so good!) and the thrifty ice cream in the end. But the sudden dip in meat quality and the queasy feeling I had the rest of the day will make me think twice about returning. read more

The garden grove location was packed on Sunday night so someone told us to come here because we wouldn't have to wait. Buena park sounds far but it was only a 10 minute drive. It was either that or waiting in the cold for an estimated hour and a half. I don't know if they're trying to rebrand themselves but the sign and cow logo is looking good! The new location is clean and spacious and we got seated right away. Everyone got the 16.99 dinner but the only meat we wanted was brisket and pork belly. We didn't touch the plate of marinated beef, pork and chicken so I hope they reuse it heh heh. The steamed egg is better here. The girl that helped us was super nice and quick with everything. I don't think they have bells at the table but they might need it when more people start to come. There's no line for the ice cream!! AAhhh so happy. I wanted cookies n cream but strawberry was good too. They could've replaced the super sweet birthday cake flavor with cookies n cream :D Just saying! read more

Many a dizzing nights were spent at Cham Soot Gol in Garden Grove. Dizzying from the meat sweats and the flowing soju. I was excited to find that they had a location in Buena Park which is much closer to me. Like movies; the sequel is never as good as the original. Service was awesome, they even helped give directions to the rest of my party. However, every time they brought out a plate of meat it was a little lacking. I had to keep ringing that bell over and over again. The price is okay for all you can eat and free ice cream is never a bad deal. But I still miss the original in Garden Grove. read more
