a bowl of salad and french fries

Suffice it to say that my experience at Chancellor's was quite the opposite of Holly H.'s, but then I was there during lunch. I also like the soothing, neutral-toned decor. I recently took a position at one of the large entities near the IUPUI campus and I really need a place like this to escape to once in a while....everything else in walking distance from work is a chain or fast-food place. The staff was fine, especially my server and the hostess. But, there was at least one male server who was kind of lurking about the dining room...I pretty attributed that to his not having had a table of his own at the time; it was early in the lunch hour when I stopped by. My food was very good, but I wish my entree - the Asian Salad with seared Ahi - would have had more slices of tuna on it...only four was very disappointing for the price and also hard to spread out for enjoyment with the massive amount of greens and other salad ingredients. The fresh-baked bread was very good and consisted for three "breads of the day": pretzel, fried biscuit and whole grain, accompanied by stone-ground mustard-flavored butter, apple butter and plain 'ole butter. I demolished the biscuit with some apple butter and ate about half the pretzel bread roll with the mustard butter....and I normally don't care for fried biscuits at all. I would definitely go back some time, but unless I can get more tuna with my Asian salad, I would not repeat that menu choice. Also, I may opt for the more casual, bar & grill side of this restaurant..I think it's called Our Den? It looked bright, cheery and I'm guessing has a cheaper, less fancy menu. Also, my table was situated close to the server's work area between dining room and kitchen, so I was the unfortunate passive eavesdropper on all the staff's "behind the scenes" goings-on, which detracted somewhat from my "relaxing" lunch. Again, probably because the servers had too much time on their hands....

For the over 21 students at IUPUI, Chancellors is the place to be. The atmosphere is simple yet refined with bright lighting and an old-school bar kind of feel. Professional and students come to this watering hole for food and drinks or just to escape the food court. There is a bar to sit at as well as table dining (I recommend the bar) and there are multiple televisions for those who want to catch a big game. It is also worth noting that this is the only on-campus restaurant that serves adult beverages. Having a place on campus to just relax with a beer and study is superb. You do not have to be 21 to eat there, but you do have to be 21 to sit at the bar. I stopped in at 5:15 on a Tuesday and at that point half of the tables had been taken. I decided to sit at the bar where there were also three persons sitting. That day Chancellors must have been understaffed because in addition to managing the bar, the bar tender was also serving tables with 1 other server. Even with the increased workload, the bartender was able to serve me promptly and take my order. My service at the bar was good and I'm not sure if I could say the same had I sat at a table. The interesting fact about Chancellors is that they share a kitchen with another (larger) eatery and the two largely share the same menu. I ate rather simply and just ordered a burger since I needed to make sure I was at my 6:00 class. The party of three next to me did order mac & cheese that looked amazing though. The food was good but nothing to really write home about. I think that's because I got opted for speed rather than sitting and enjoying a meal. Next time I will order something that isn't as generic as a burger and fries. Overall, this is a nice place to stop and get a bite on campus and I plan on returning. (especially on $2.50 domestic Tuesdays)

Chancellors is a restaurant located on the campus of IUPUI. It is operated through the company Chartwells. It is open to the public and is actually a pretty fancy restaurant. I have been here a few times and ordered a variety of food. I have had the portabella burger, chicken sandwich and one of their salads. The burgers come with fries which are good. The portion sizes are large and the prices are reasonable. They have tables and a bar area. Surprisingly the restaurant serves alcohol on campus. Parking can be difficult if you aren't associated with IUPUI, but there is a nearby parking garage that charges by the hour.

I've struggled with how to rate and review Goose the Market for a long time…read more I've struggled mightily. It's an Indianapolis icon in many ways. It's beloved. And listen, it's not the most wheelchair friendly place in the world. If you're a wheelchair user, you're in all likelihood not going to the cellar unless you're extraordinary with you're chair or you crawl. I remember attending a Yelp event here, and I just wrestled with these issues so much. It's not inaccessible - you can get in the door, though even the parking is a bit wonky and the curb-cuts a bit worn. This is an older building in an older neighborhood. So yeah, if you're a wheelchair user plan ahead. I am a wheelchair user. And I suppose I should knock off my usual 1-star for accessibility issues. But, I just can't do it. I, instead, choose to go 5-stars with my narrative disclaimer that there are accessibility issues here. But, my word. This is a great place and every single experience I've had with Goose the Market, including last night's Italian Film Festival, has been stellar whether I'm in their location or at an event they are catering. What is Goose the Market? First off, nearly everyone considers it one of the best - Indianapolis Monthly, Eater, Yelp, etc. Goose the Market offers a daily menu of sandwiches, soups, gelato, and small plates. It offers raw beef, pork, poultry, game, seafood, in-house made sausage/smoked meats, and more. It offers charcuterie - both in-house and from other producers. It offers farmstead cheeses, fresh produce, artisan breads, preserves, sauces, pickles, pasta, crackers, flours/grains, and a lot more. There's the cellar - Enoteca bar with Italian style wine by the glass and small plates (and it has all-ages seating). Goose the Market offers a wine of the month club, gift cards, catering, classes, daily specials, and more. What can I say? There are those places that are worth the effort. As a lifelong person with a disability, I long ago realized the world would never be perfectly accessible. It's never going to happen. I'll continue to work toward a more accessible world, though I'll also honor that there are those places where I feel welcome anyway. I feel welcome at Goose the Market, though I can't quite get the full experience. The service is exceptional, the products quite awesome, the environment warm and friendly, and there's simply no doubt it's one of Indy's treasures. So yeah, five stars. With a disclaimer that those with mobility impairments may need to plan ahead or have a companion along. Who wants to be my companion?

The first visit was for the bacon…read moremaking class, and the second was to pick up my bacon, and trying some of the sandwiches they have. Bacon making class: overall I am glad I did the class, but think there are some things that could change. The information provided at the beginning of the class didn't flow the best, and used a lot of terms I didn't understand- knowing your audience is important. We were told we would get 1.5lbs bacon, and .5lbs bacon bits. When picking up the bacon, we only got the bacon, and none of the bits. This needs to be updated on the class description. Sandwiches: we tried a goose, and a batalli. The goose was good- nothing spectacular. I was a fan of the batalli- nice amount of mayo, appropriate spice, and good amount of meat/cheese. Would definitely get the batalli next time. Overall, I enjoy the sandwiches, think the sandwich class could be improved.

The space is big and fun, with a large dining room, an old-school video arcade game, interesting art, and a big screen playing movies, which adds to the laid-back, quirky vibe. It's counter service with clear menu boards on the wall, making ordering easy. I had the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon and an egg and... my goodness. So incredibly delicious. One friend ordered the same grits but swapped in fried catfish instead of bacon--also a fantastic choice. Our third went with a classic plate with eggs and bacon, and let me tell you, the bacon is thick and plentiful. We ordered a side of fries for the table and there were more than enough to share. Self-serve coffee with all the fixings is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Fun atmosphere, great food, solid portions--definitely will be back.

We were greeted right away and looked over the menu a bit before ordering. My husband ordered the country breakfast with chicken (definitely the way to go) and I ordered the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon. We each got a cup for water and I ordered a coffee, excited because I saw ahead of going that it was self-serve (like at Cafe Patachou where I can get as many coffees as I like without having to wait for our server to come check on us first). However, the self serve coffee excitement was short-lived after seeing that they only offered half and half as creamer (I'm lactose intolerant) and the two coffee carafes were not labeled for what was inside (decaf? medium roast? you'll never know!) and then one was completely empty and never refilled during our visit. The water station also was not ever refilled during our visit, so we were not able to get refills after filling up our cups the first time. It took a couple of tries to find a table we could sit at because you seat yourself, but several had not been cleaned after other guests left and had food and drinks spilled on them. There were definitely enough staff members there to be able to clean them in between customers, so we weren't sure why they were left that way. We ended up sitting in the middle of the room towards the front, across from the clown art wall, which made for interesting conversation as we looked through everything. When the food came out I was impressed with the portions, but I had no flavor whatsoever to my cheesy jalepeno grits. The egg and bacon were good, but not enough to make it a good dish and I would not order it again. And I love savory breakfast and grits in general, so it was a real bummer. My husband's dish was worth the visit though. It was a huge portion size and we honestly would just split it if we came back and ordered it. It was so savory, seasoned perfectly, and juicy. One of the best breakfast dishes I have tried recently! I really debated between 3-4 stars for this, but my dish was a flop, the lack of cleanliness for the seating area, the lackluster self-serve coffee station, and not refilling the beverages ultimately scored a 3 star review for me. I would come back and try something else though, or split the country chicken breakfast because it was really good. Hopefully next time the beverages won't be empty!

The ambiance is old fashioned in my mind, but very cute and suitable for a sandwich place. I ordered the Milanesa de Polo Sandwich, which is a chicken tenderloin sandwich, and a side of the fried sweet potatoes. The food actually came out in a decent amount of time,so I was shocked and surprised, but very pleased at the same time. As expected, the food was incredible and terrific like I thought it would be. The sandwich was huge and had to use a knife and fork to eat it. The fried sweet potatoes were excellent and had a nice texture. They were very flavorful. The sandwich tasted amazing and was one of the best chicken tenderloin sandwiches I have ever had since living in Indy. Now I see why everyone loves this place so much, because the sandwiches are high quality and just so perfect!! Our server was wonderful and gave great recommendations on the menu items. Her recommendations were spot on and everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. The steak is also incredible, so I would highly recommend the Lolo Supreme sandwich. Don Juan V's sandwiches is a wonderful mom and pop business in Indy that is worth checking out if you are looking for a fresh good sandwich. Given it is a small venue, you may have to wait a bit for your food to be prepared and delivered to your table, so will need to have some patience if you dine inside, but trust me, it is worth it and you will not be disappointed.
