I've visited this restaurant about 3-4 times now. A couple times 5 years ago around the time they first opened and 2 more times the past two months. The food is decent. In August, I got the grilled salmon, hubby and son got the chicken tenders with fries. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs so we had too many fries. The fries were over cooked for our liking and kinda too salty. Of course with all the cheese and bacon but just a little too much. My salmon is was cooked and seasoned well. The baked potato could have been cooked a little longer and had more butter. The chocolate fudge sundae cake was sooooo good. If you like watermelon, the frozen margarita is was so good and STRONG! Our most recent trip, I got the meatloaf and double potatoes: mashed and baked. I love carbs. This second go at the baked potato was better! The potato was cooked well that I didn't struggle to mix it up with the cheese and butter. As always, the honey butter croissants were a hit! So warm, so buttery, so sweet, so flaky. Our son is the reason why we went again recently. Back in August, we had Luke as our waiter. He was absolutely fantastic! So sweet, big smile and helpful when I was choosing my meal. The last time we had Destiny. She waited on us and also worked the bar. She as so quick, beautiful smile and my son heard her singing a little. He complimented her on her voice. I wish I knew the other wait staff because they were so helpful too. Great restaurant, helpful staff and good location at the town center. It's close but not crowded in the congestion. I took my in-laws out to dinner after picking them up from the airport. I was embarrassed that I took them to Cheddars- 1st the server took forever to acknowledge us & get us our drinks before finally taking our order. I know it's a scratch kitchen- but I am feeling that's an excuse for slow service. We also had to wait over tenminutes before we could ask for boxes & the check. 2nd it was so dirty- the floors are disgusting, there was potatoes on the wall of the booth we sat in (I discovered this when my elbow landed in the cold sticky mess) & the bathrooms- really really gross. Toilet paper and urine all over the floor. 3rd it was loud- like bar scene loud- we could barely have a conversation. I know controlling the noise level is difficult- but the whole experience just was awful. As much as I love the food- I may have to pass on the dine in & opt for take out next time. read more

We came on a Tuesday at 6 and didn't have to wait for a table. The server was nice and we got our food quickly, I got the country fried steak which looks huge when you get it but is actually mostly breading with a small steak on the inside. It was really salty. The potatoes were good and I did like the gravy. I also got the broccoli casserole which is just cheesy rice and broccoli. It was good not great. My husband got the 8 oz steak with beans and rice and mashed potatoes. He really enjoyed his and I tried his steak. It was awesome seasoned and cooked perfectly and the price was great. We will be back but I'm not getting the country fried steak again. I want to try the sirloin and ribs meal. Again the service was great. Worth another try for sure. read more

Seriously?!?! I have been here three times now. My first time was a 4 star visit. My previous was a 3 because it has become mediocre, the last and most recent is a 1! I absolutely hate writing 1 star reviews, however this last visit has sealed the deal for me. Even though I love their chicken tenders and cheese bites the service and lack of care for the customers has driven me away On my last visit, we arrived around 5:45 on a Friday. I knew there would be a long wait so no big deal. We decided we would go into the bar area and grab some drinks. So that is what we attempted to do. We stood at the bar and waited to be served, and waited, and waited. We waited for about 5 minutes while the bar tenders talked and joked around with each other and made drinks coming in for the diners sitting at tables. So I went to a bartender placing drinks at the expediting area and asked if we could order. I was instructed to go to the other side of the bar and wait. I told him I had been waiting and no one would acknowledge us, even when we asked for assistance. He said he would make sure someone came to take our order. So after about 10 minutes, we were able to order drinks and got them in a fair amount of time. We went out to the waiting area and were called for our table a short time later. We were taken back to the bar area to be seated. We were greeted by our waitress who stated two different people would be helping us. I thought, cool, awesome, we are going to get good service. Not so much. We ordered our non-alcoholic drinks and a couple appetizers. It took a little while but we did get our waters, a sprite and then our apps. When they came back, we ordered another alcoholic drink. Not something crazy, just a vodka lemonade. We then ordered our meals. About 20 minutes later, still no drink. We asked our waitresses when they came back and they looked completely dumbfounded about the drink. They had forgotten to put it in but didn't want to tell us that. They finally brought that out. Then came the meals.... Two of us ordered the Cajun pasta and 1 ordered a steak medium. The two pastas came out and they had obviously made them in one pan, dumped out a bunch in one and a little into the second. We asked the waitress why the portions were so different and she just said she didn't know and walked away, so a manager came around and we told/showed him. By the way, the pasta was also cold as if they finished it then forgot about the steak and put the pasta up to wait until the steak was done and the toast was rock hard. He offered to remake the pasta "quickly" we said okay. So he brought back two hot pastas. Unfortunately, while the first were made with grilled large shrimp, the other came back with tiny boiled type shrimp and the sauce was all watered down. The steak was cooked rare. Not medium rare but really really rare. Our party didn't even eat our dishes. But the check sure came fast! We paid, left a way too generous tip with a note that we were very displeased with our service and our phone number (no call) and left to go get something sweet to make us happy again. After this last experience, I will no longer recommend this restaurant. I feel bad I have now subjected my family and my friends to a restaurant that has failed to meet their expectations which are considerably lower than mine. My niece ordered the chicken strips. I ordered the chicken with gravy mashed potatoes and red beans and rice. She ordered the frozen strawberry margarita and I ordered the house margarita on the rocks. We both enjoyed our meals. The portions are large. The style is texas comfort food. Due to limited seating the wait time was 45 minutes at 6 pm, so we sat at the bar and ordered so there was no wait. A friend had recommended the meatloaf, but sadly they took it off the menu. Nice modern decor, and fast service. I would definitely return. My only criticism is that they should go easy on the salt in the food. read more

The Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen at the Town Center is a strange little restaurant. On one hand, the food's pretty damn good and inexpensive. On the other hand, the service can be downright bizarre along with other odd parts of the restaurant. Combine that with a huge wait on most nights and you'll be scratching your head as you try to figure the place out. Our night started at the bar, because of the aforementioned wait time, and it was ok for the most part. The bar was packed with patrons all staring at their plastic devices hoping it would vibrate and flash so they could be released from the alcoholic limbo and into the proper dining area. You'd think that the bartenders would be on top of things when 90% of their customers were just killing time until a table popped up. Sadly, they weren't up to the task of quick turnaround and high touch service. They were slow, forgetful, and easily flustered. Thank goodness our party was chatting away about the holiday craziness or else we would've ALL noticed the painful delays in getting our drinks. When our plastic doohickey finally flashed we were escorted to a booth in the bar area. 20 feet, at best, from where we were seated. A waiter came by and quickly asked about our drink and appetizer choices. Quickly, being the operative word. Everything he did was fast, and not in a good way. He took orders fast and moved onto the next guest before the previous one had finished talking. He moved by our table fast making it hard to flag him down. He spoke fast and everything about him felt hurried. If excellent customer service had been paired with that speed then he singled-handedly would've earned Cheddar's a 5 star rating. Alas, he went to the same school of customer service as the bartenders. Now the food was good and in large supply. Easily two meals per entree. I want to come back just to try the other items on the menu. That's as far as I'll get on the food because the weirdness in the bathroom is what I have to spend the rest of this review on. The men's bathroom by the bar is a tiny thing. Almost a closet in size with one urinal, one stall, and a sink crammed next each other. Very little room to maneuver if you have several occupants and ZERO room to just loiter. I went in after my meal to wash hands and dispense liquids. A pretty standard visit. When I walked in, there was a guy with his cell phone pinched between his shoulder and ear while he put on his belt. It looked like your normal "I'm getting ready to leave" behavior. I squeezed by him and went to the single urinal. The guy, to my dismay, hung around jabbering away on his cell phone. He was leaning on the little space between the sink and the rest of the bathroom as if it was his own private office. I looked back at him and noticed he was a friggin' employee of Cheddar's. I understand stepping away for a quick call, but go out the back or anywhere other than an incredibly cramped bathroom and mere feet from someone trying to use the facilities. It was uncomfortable to say the least. More people came in as I was washing my hands and the dude still yammered on his phone, in the way of everyone going to and fro, giving zero f-s about anything. It was such a weird experience that I had to share it with my friends at the table. The slow bartenders, fast waiter, and strange bathroom employee were just a little too bizarre for my first visit to Cheddar's. If it weren't for the good food and a menu worth returning for, I'd give this place 1 star and never come back. I have a long time relationship with Cheddar's. They've been around in TX since I was a kid. It was cool seeing one open here in Jax. Friends have raves about the tower of onion rings for about $5 and just all around price friendly menu. We sat at the bar when we came here to avoid the wait. Our bartender was friendly but not overly attentive. We started out with the queso (you can add ground beef for free). This also came with salsa and chips. I really liked the texture of the chips and the dips were flavorful. I then remembered about my friend's review of the onion rings. We placed an order. Tower. A tower of onion rings. I can't believe how many you got and for only about $5! This is definitely shareable! I really liked the dipping sauces too. For our meal... I was craving a burger, though it should've told me something when there were only 2-3 burgers to choose from. Cheddar's is not known for their burgers. Y'all. This burger came out shiny... and completely soaked in grease. We got the bacon cheeseburger and just wow. Like grease dripping down my arm and face and NOT in a good way. The meat was not seasoned at all and lacked any sort of salt. I honestly just was not impressed. I could do without. That makes me sad that this was not a happy reunion. Who doesn't like comfort food on a chilly night? I've never been here and thought I'd give it a try. Arrived in Saturday night to find a large crowd at the entrance waiting for tables. The wait was 35 minutes... always a good sign, that means I'm in for a good meal. When a tabletop opened up in the bar we grabbed it. Our waiter was very slow the entire night. At times he was no where to be found. The service provided was disappointing. They ran out of coleslaw which surprised me so the waiter offered a salad for no charge. The salad was supposed to be brought before my food however my meal came first then salad after. Needless to say I had too much food at one time so I brought home the majority of my main dish. My friend had the lighter side salmon and said it was okay but the side of green beans that chose were cold. We both were disappointed in our experience. May come back since they have a large menu and the soup looks good but won't rush to go back quiet yet. read more

So Cheddar's has opened up at the Town Center. We've been looking to give this place a try. After an evening of shopping, we decided that would be the night. We got there about 9pm on a Saturday and were told that the wait would be about 20 minutes. We probably didn't wait that long and we were escorted off to our table. My wife tried to order a Michelob Ultra and they were out. At least they had Blue Moon. We initially ordered the Spinach Dip appetizer. After the dip was delivered, we ordered our dinner. This was pretty good but nothing too spectacular. A few issues here. We finished our dip but for some reason they didn't want to clear it from the table. We also had to wait a while before we got our dinner. It seemed like my dinner was waiting under "the lights" for a while. I ordered the Cajun pasta dish which I've had at other locations. It was a bit dried out. My wife had the ribs and shrimp. She thought it was good but nothing special. Our waitress was pretty good. She checked on us a few times throughout our visit. Aesthetically, Cheddars' beautiful. Their foods are reasonably priced and well portioned. My only bone to pick is the service. I can only speak for the bar and its services. I've been here at least 3-4 times since they opened and never sat in their dining room. There always seems to be a wait so we opted for the massive bar they have. The last time I was there was the final visit. Per usual, they're busy and lines are out the door. We sat at the bar and ordered beer and asked for water. The water glass still has food residue in it, I asked for a new one and the bartender seems like it bothered him. He gave me a new one but slammed it so it spilled all over the counter. We're now trying to clean it up and sat with soaked napkins the whole time. We used the bar napkins for dinner. My food came 10-15 min before my party. Halfway through dinner I realized I never got my salad. We asked the bartender, he brought it out when we almost finished with our dinner. Our drinks sat empty after the initial pour. No one checked on our food or service. The bartenders openly complained about the tips amount received. One guy in particular was cussing every time a drink ticket went through. However, our check was before us before we asked for it. Needless to say, this was the occurrence pretty much every time we're there. I feel like I have the opposite experience as other reviewers. While the service was totally awesome, the food was kinda lacking. My mom and I arrived on my actual birthday when they opened. It was a Monday so I figured it would be kinda slow and for the most part it was. We were seated in the bar area which was fine by me as there were TVs to watch and a lot more lighting. Our server was so attentive to us and she never skimped as her tables started to fill with people as the the morning became afternoon. We started off with Mango and Raspberry flavored sweet teas which you could taste where freshly made. We shared the Santa Fe Spinach Dip as an app which came out fairly quickly. We were used to having artichoke hearts in spinach dip so when this had none we felt like this was authentic spinach dip, simple and pure. It was delicious. For entrees, my mother chose the buffalo chicken wrapper minus the buffalo sauce. Our server let her taste-test the sauce before she made a final decision and she felt like their made-from-scratch sauce was "too lemony and the aftertaste had too much spice". I wasn't sure about the lemon taste but the spice was very strong as it reaches the back of your throat. It wasn't enjoyable. I got the Monte Cristo with fries, thinking it was similar to the one I had from a defunct restaurant chain. It was more like fried dough balls with ham, turkey, and cheese than a sandwich fried. It was good but the dough was too much for me and I ended up eating just the insides. The raspberry sauce was very good though. We had no room for dessert but either the hostess or the manager stopped by our table to wish me a happy birthday and gave me some fresh baked cookies. Pretty typical American-style food, I will say you definitely get your bang for your buck here at this establishment. This is only my second time here, but both times, I have enjoyed my meals. It comes with A LOT of food - so STAY HUNGRY. I usually order the combination dinners - comes with two different meats AND 2 SIDES. So. Much. Food. I have left with a to go box every time. Wait staff is okay. Can be better. Both times I have been here, service was okay, but I can't complain as they haven't messed up any orders or accidentally over charged me. Date night at Cheddar's! We arrived early before the dinner rush. We didn't have to wait long for a table. The hostess seated us in a small booth. After we looked at the menu we put in our order for the appetizer platter. We ordered the full rack of ribs to share for our entree. I was excited to try this place out but we left very disappointed. It was a Saturday night so naturally there was an hour wait. We went over to the bar and found two seats at the end in what I called the kids corner bc it was shorter than the rest of the bar. The manager came over and explained to the menu to us put in a drink order for us and was super sweet, it started off great. After we had our drinks for almost 10 minutes before the bartender finally came over and took our order. He was not very enthused at all. While we waited, I watched one of the bartenders make some incredible looking drinks. Everyone behind the bar was in a huge rush, even the manager who worked harder than the rest of the staff the whole time we were there. The food was delicious! I had the salmon with bourbon glaze with broccoli and Mac and cheese. After we had finished our food we sat and waited on the bar tender to come check on us and give us our bill. He never checked on us during our meal. I tried flagging him down and could never get his attention. I finally succeeded. My observation was that they were severely understaffed behind the bar. They had two bartenders but one was solely needed to make drinks for the rest of the house which was understandable. They definitely needed another body back there. Meh. I'm not sure if it was because I showed up an hour before closing time and the chef was in the kitchen falling asleep on the prep table or if this is how they normally do dinner. Even after the long wait time to be seated, I assumed that was the worst part and the wait would be well worth it. While the server did an awesome job of showing me love and hospitality, he can't always guarantee a perfect dining experience. The restaurant was set up really nice and the staff was on point. I ordered the top sirlion with fried shrimp, broccoli casserole, and seasoned rice. My thing is, if a restaurant can cook a delicous steak, then they pretty much can win me over... But unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. The steak was dry, not medium-rare like I ordered, more like well-done, and I'm not sure what seasoning was used but it didn't taste the best either. There wasn't any steam coming off of my plate; nothing was hot. At least my drink was good. The Texas Sweet Tea came in a really large cup and helped me cope with my "cold cow". I enjoyed my golden brown fried shrimp, but I only took one bite of my seasoned rice, I'm not sure what it was missing. (probably seasoning) Maybe I'll try this spot out again a little earlier in the day next time. read more

The food is always amazing. We love the country fried chicken and the honey croissants. The last time we visited they messed up on our to go order and it took an hour to get our food. The manager ended up comping the entire meal. Great leadership stepping in to take care of the customer. Thanks read more

Finally got around to trying this place out for lunch. The decor offers a very modern inside with a rustic brick outside. The lighting inside is a little dim even during the day. Being that is was lunch I didn't want anything huge so I got the crispy Buffalo chicken wrap. I was contemplating french fries but when the server told me they weren't hand cut, which I thought was odd for a scratch kitchen, I got the black beans instead. My plate arrived not too long after ordering. Boy was I surprised when I looked at my plate to find 4 very generous sized quarters of my wrap. So much that I only ate half and had another full sized wrap for another meal. The breading on the chicken was very good. It was enough to give flavor but not overpowering like other breading. Adding pickles in with the wrap was a nice twist to the traditional buffalo. The beans were good. There was plenty of liquid with an abundance of flavor making it good to the very last drop. Paying $9 for essentially two wraps that weren't soggy and stuffed with chicken is something that will bring me back time and time again. read more
