My first time, checking out what all these stars are about. Now I know! I had a simple chicken sandwich. After all, that's what this is all about. It was wonderful! Deep fried to perfection, hot, fresh and juicy. I didn't think of ordering sauce on the side so I passed on it, rather then to chose one I wouldn't care for. Next time I'll know. And I wasn't sure I could fit a side AND the sandwich too. That was a good choice since the sandwich absolutely filled me. Now I'm curious. I'll need to check on the Mac n Cheese, the fries and the waffle for sure. Next time! I learned, I can order online. That's a plus since I didn't show until 3 today and I was lucky to not be standing in a long line or even worse, being chicken sandwich-less. The food is very good but the service is so inconsistent. Wings are huge and there's a good variety of sauces. The waffles are doughy as some other reviewers have mentioned, but I like this style. They make everything fresh so it's a little bit of a wait (10-15 minutes for wings), but it's worth it. Cheeks started off as a food truck and it's great to see how the business has grown. The problem here is the staff. Multiple times I've gotten the wrong food and whoever is working at the counter usually looks and acts like they'd rather be doing anything else. Last time I was here they gave me completely the wrong order and when I told them, I got a full-blown sigh and eye roll. Let's be real, this is a takeout chicken joint... I don't need or expect five star service but let's dial down the attitude. I feel bad for the owner. Whenever I see him there he's running around trying to keep things moving and help his employees out (no, don't just leave an empty box in the middle of the restaurant where customers are walking... yes, tell the customers about the special or the new sauce....), but some of the people he's got out front are just ridiculous. 1st time being here but I will be coming back many more times for sure as I live less than a mile away. This place puts Chik Fil A to shame. They fry their chicken to order and they give you bigger pieces of chicken than Chik Fil A. I got the deluxe chicken sandwich and the spicy chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. My one knock would be that I couldn't taste as much of a difference between the spicy and the deluxe as I can when I get them at Chik Fil A. But the deluxe's piece of chicken was bigger than the spicy one. Next time I'll consider trying the standard chicken sandwich and possibly some tenders with a waffle. read more

Chicken and waffles is where it's at! Tried out Cheek's and it's pretty good. I got the garlic parm wings and a waffle with apple butter. The wings were very large, cooked right, not fried hard, the sauce was awesome. The waffle was just too rubbery to eat. It looked fluffy and fresh but it wasn't. We waited 30 minutes for our order as well. It is a small spot with indoor picnic tables and no bathroom, zero frills. I came for the food not the ambience so who cares. 4 star wings. Wow, amazing chicken wings, unlike any I've ever had before. Chicken wings usually don't have much white meat on the bone, but Cheeks' wings taste more like a mini chicken breast, with a light, crispy, crunchy batter. But, the goodness doesn't end there. They then dip the wings in your choice of homemade sauce. I chose the sweet chili sauce, which was a little sweet, yet tangy with a hint of red pepper flakes. The funky shaped potato fries are also made as ordered, and a little crispy on the outside with a tender interior, just as they should be, and are served nice and hot (as in temperature). By the time my husband and I arrived, they had sold out of waffles, chicken breasts, and iced tea. My husband got a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs and a sausage patty, served on a warm buttered Portuguese bun, which he said was delicious, in addition to a side order of fries. Since we were there late, still eating after all the other customers had left, we spent a few minutes chatting with Steven, the owner of Cheeks. You can really tell how much he values his customers and how enthusiastic he is about the quality and taste of the food that he & his staff cooks & serves. In my opinion, this is the best fried chicken around! My only advice is to get there earlier than we did (3:00pm), so that they will hopefully not have run out of a specific food that you might be craving. Oh, and the prices are reasonable. If you're looking for something fancy, this is not that place; it's basically a food truck at the end of a small shopping center, with a few picnic tables & umbrellas. The wings were too jumbo.. for my liking I don't like huge piece of chicken bc the chicken skin ends up being fatty tasting .. which was the case with these. In addition to the average food, the decor was cheesy, but original; making the inside look like you were outside. The authenticity of the sticky picnic table was actually kind of gross; I found myself looking around for the ants. Besides the sticky tables, which were unfortunate, the place was otherwise clean. The imbalance between the brand new large flat screen monitors being used to display their menu, the high quality plastic-ware utensils & containers to eat out of, AND the great outdoor dining experience actually made me feel uncomfortable. The waste of how environmentally unfriendly they were w/ paper vs plastic, and the obviousness of where the focus was spent on this business lead me to the impression that they could be young/inexperienced, and that they would have to adjust if they wanted to stick around. God awful! If this was my last meal, I would be happy that someone put me out of my misery. As a few negative reviewers posted, I can totally side with them. To the reviewer who says this place puts Chick-Fil-A to shame, you are sadly mistaken. I will give 2 positives-chicken tender was tender and the hash fries were OK at best. The wings were juicy but tasteless and coating was too big and thick. Fried chicken sandwich was drowning in sauce and sat on top of cheap shredded ice burg lettuce. The mac and cheese bites were detestable-wouldn't even give to a dog. If you like tasteless southern cuisine, then this might be for you. I'm not one to judge a book by its cover but do it with this place-yes, it's cheap fora reason! Only way to enjoy this is if you are baked/fried as some of the walk-in clientele appeared-right there, not my type of place. There is no bathroom and you know why? Because it would be seriously used by the punished patrons! Absolute torture! Lastly, the hot chicken is placed in styrofoam containers and it burns the containers...seriously-genius for cooks! I sat there and waited for an hour and finally asked how much longer my order would be. I am very disappointed in this location after discovering Cheeks in Wallingford last spring. I ordered food after my last job in Manchester on a Friday night only to drive home thirty minutes to find our food was burned. I called the store and was asked to speak with the manager, who wasn't in. After several attempts I finally connected with him. He gave me a hard time because I used the app to place my order and the best he could do was to give me a store credit which would be visible to his employees next time I went in. I was at that same Friday night job a month later, ordered a replacement order, explained to the cashier about the credit, verified it would be free except for one extra item, and he agreed. I showed up to pick up my order, he told me it wasn't free, no note from the manager, he couldn't call him and that I either left my food or pay for it. He told me it was busy and didn't understand what I was asking on the phone. There was no one else in the restaurant and it wasn't busy. I agreed to pay since I needed to feed my family and left my name and number for the manager to call me. That was two weeks ago and he's never called. Cashier admitted there was a cook who burns all the food. My advice, don't visit this location as your food could be inedible and their customer service is horrid. read more

Food is good and prices aren't too bad, but I expected a little bit more regarding portion sizes. Fast service, no nonsense food. Deluxe spicy chicken sandwich is as bigger, better, and cheaper than chains. You can actually taste the delicious seasoning underneath the spicy (mayo?) sauce.
