Here's the thing.... I LOVED Cheeks when it was a food truck. No seriously I would drive from Marlborough to Manchester on my lunch hour sometimes if other people in the office were craving it. I mean granted it was like once every 2 months but who can get enough of that chicken? Not I said the duck. I'm pretty sure it's just because everything is done fresh but I went over the weekend and was surprised that I waited 15 minutes when I was the only person in the restaurant. I understand they take online orders and there was literally one cook and one counter person but...it seemed like a while to be waiting when I was the only one there. This time I had the regular chicken sandwich and mac & cheese bites (because there wasn't any actual mac & cheese available....) Really disappointed in cheeks chicken and waffles. We placed an order and were looking forward to it as their food is really good. Unfortunately when we arrived at the store no one was wearing masks. The girl in front was not wearing hers properly (not covering her nose) the older man next to her who was standing in the doorway between the front and kitchen taking phone orders did not even have a mask at all, and 1 guy in the kitchen PREPARING FOOD also had no mask at all. This is absolutely unacceptable, anyone working in the food industry should be wearing a mask at all times, zero exceptions. We ordered teriyaki, garlic Parm, and BBQ wings, as well as a side of Mac n cheese. The good: My kids loved the flavor of the teriyaki wings I asked for the BBQ wings to have sauce on the side and those wings were crispy and delicious and the BBQ sauce was super yummy. I don't like a ton of sauce, so it was plenty for me, but if you order sauce on the side and are someone who wants a lot you'll need to add an extra side of sauce. The bad: The Mac n cheese was pretty bland, not much flavor at all. The garlic Parm wings did not have a great flavor, and for some reason those wings seemed super fatty, with lots of skin and not much meat. The prices were pretty outrageous, and the online ordering was funky and wouldn't let you order different sizes of the sides. Hopefully this was just a temporary glitch. Overall, we'd likely order from here again. But I'll stick to sauce on the side so that the wings are crispy. I'd love it if they added dry rub flavors to the menu! read more

Attention all Yelpers: the food truck is all growed up. As of last Monday they have moved into a brick and mortar just doors away from their parked truck. First day was Sunday, as they told me when I walked in. Well, unlike other "first day" experiences, this one went well - at least as far as food was concerned! (They were still learning the register.) I ordered the mandatory tenders and waffle, in Carolina reaper sauce. It was medium, but at least had a little bite. The plastic utensils actually melted and bent as I tried to cut the chicken. So if you're planning to eat in, bring your own metal. The tenders were dense and on the chewy side - overcooked? - but were huge, juicy, and meaty. They paired perfectly with the soft waffle, though there wasn't quite enough waffle for the meat. I enjoyed it enough to order a side of mac and cheese. Added bacon, reasonable charge at $1.50 (not in the system, but ask for it). Not your typical gooey melted substance. Real cheese. A bit drier than the other stuff but much classier. Freshly fried and crumbled crispy bacon. Upgrade the forks and knives, make your sauce more painful, and grow the waffle 25%, and you'll have nirvana, chicken bros and girlbros. read more

Damnn, Cheeks! Back at it again with that chicken?! No seriously, spicy chicken sandwich? Do it. You won't regret it. I really have no good reason for not trying it sooner, other than "trying to be healthy". Who needs that right? But, that spicy chicken sandwich doe? Bangin'! Topped with american cheese, pickles and spicy chipotle, the chicken is juicy on the inside yet crispy on the outside. Simple and delicious! The wings aren't bad. I've tried the orange ginger citrus, garlic parm, honey garlic and sweet chili. Sauces were just OK, will have to try the rest for a full report next time. For a 6-piece order, you get one sauce only. To split the order for two sauces will be an extra $0.25. A small order of hash fries is all that you'll need, they're tasty but can get soggy in the take-out containers. Have no fear, throw them in the oven at home for a hot minute and they crisp up pretty nicely. Restaurant is bare bones, there are however 3 picnic tables. I really am not sure how there are so many high reviews for this place. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to check this place out because who doesn't like a great piece of chicken?! The location is not the most appealing but something about the outdoor picnic tables inside gave the place their unique charm. There were maybe two other people in the "restaurant" and it was a little overwhelming for the employees. The reason why I say "restaurant" is because there are no bathrooms in this place. NONE! I honestly don't know how that is possible for a restaurant these days. When I asked if there was one I could use, the employee told me to go next door to the Chinese restaurant or the package store. I picked the package store...who told me that the restroom was for employees only. At that point, I gave up and just patiently waited at least 20 long minutes to get our chicken nuggets and chicken sandwich. The chicken nuggets were beyond dry and I ate only a handful. The orange zinger sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. I also ordered a side of macaroni and cheese which was such a disappointment. Now, don't get me wrong, the quantity is A LOT but it was mushy, over cooked and straight out of a box. My husband had the spicy chicken sandwich which wasn't spicy at all but at least wasn't a dry piece of meat. I ordered the 3 tenders and a waffle as well as the Chicken sandwich deluxe w/ hash fries. All I can say is the food was amazingly good. The tenders are big and juicy and the waffle was excellent. The Deluxe Chicken sandwich was nothing short of superb. It's good to see a chicken spot in town that serves up excellent quality and quantity. Personally, Cheek's is an abomination. I don't like what they've done to Chicken & Waffles. If you're open minded, this may be for you. If you're a C&W purist, steer clear. Service is super low-key. Basically they've just moved the food truck feel indoors in case of rain. Seating is at cafeteria style/picnic tables that are a little hard to get in and out of since the seats are attached. Don't go expecting atmosphere. No big deal. A bit of a wait for the food -- maybe 10 to 15 minutes. Wouldn't be such a big deal if not for the lack of seating and atmosphere. There are tons of sauce/flavor options for the chicken. They're like all of those sauce flavor options you get at wings places. Except they put these sauces on fried chicken. The result is kind of a sticky, soggy mess. I could tell that the chicken was probably pretty good quality chicken so respect for that. Served in styrofoam containers (again food truck indoors) if you're even remotely interested in separating your now crazy flavored chicken from your fruit topped waffles forget it. For that reason I recommend steering clear of any fruit topping your waffles. Just get a plain ole waffle and let the tangy sauce of your choice be your guide. If I could have given no stars, I would have. My family and I placed a large take out order. When we arrived to pick it up, we asked the employee if everything was there. They assured us it was. Upon arriving at home, three items that we paid for were missing. We called and told them that we were missing three items and they said to come back and they would give us the missing items. Keep in mind, we live in Bolton so going back wasn't a quick trip. When we got there, they accused us of stealing one of the items that we said we didn't get. This place is why you need half-stars on Yelp!. It's so far from five stars, but not deserving of just three stars. Cheeks makes me wish for an upgrade to the Yelp! rating model. This is a food truck with a solid roof over its head. But dayam...like many food trucks, whose space confinements force them to focus on a solid core menu, Cheeks' limited menu is top shelf. The food truck reference is not a metaphor...on our visit, the old food truck is still sitting out in the parking lot, and the storefront sign still features the name of a former pizza restaurant tenant. Don't let that distract you. Honestly, this place looks like someone just moved in yesterday and didn't have time to re-paint or mop the floors. But they apparently got a good deal on big screen TV's. They grabbed some picnic tables from someone's back yard instead of buying actual restaurant furniture. I'm not kidding...the veneer surface on the counters is chipped and worn, the paint is old. And yet, I'm stilling giving it four stars (almost considered five). Why? Because we enjoyed some of the best chicken -- and waffles -- I've had. That's it. One guy walked in and asked why he couldn't choose thighs or legs or other parts. I think the answer he received underscores why the food is so good. "We do chicken breasts." Yeah, and wings. But by focusing on breasts, using them for sandwiches, tenders, everything else, they can control costs and food inventory...and get consistently great results. I got a "Spicy Chicken Sandwich," a basic sammy which came topped with pickle slices and cheese, and a mild Chipotle aioli. Sadly, not spicy at all. But still, It was sublime, if a bit messy. But the waffles part of the nom de plumage came with "tenders." Forget Tyson frozen food or Mickey's D nuggets...these were big chunks of fresh chicken breast. Like, each tender was probably 1/3 of a chicken breast. Big, meaty, tender, perfectly cooked. AND THEY WERE ON A WAFFLE! Oh, eat me. The sauce (you get a choice) was wonderful, the textures, flavors, everything...spot on. This is food that brings you to a happy place. I'd be willing to paint the so-called dining room and fix up the place in exchange for a lifetime of free waffles and chicken, but I fear I'd soon be found dead in a pile of maple syrup and wing bones. Dear God, Thank you for Cheek's Chicken and Waffles. I ordered the mac and cheese and it was this glorious burnty cheesy concoction. A little on the dry side but I think that's the style they are going for... whatever, I ate it all. My friend got the spicy chicken sandwich which I think was the winner of the day in terms of taste. So good. I ordered chicken and waffles. I made the bad decision of asking for BBQ on my chicken it messed with the goodness of the waffle. I was a rookie and for this I apologize. The waffle, however, was a little under cooked. I can't fault them because I didn't offer a chance to fix it... I just ate it... all of it. The chicken was really, really tasty. Again I will not opt for BBQ again. i think it stole a lot from the yummy breading and the well cooked chickenly finger. I was at a soul food joint in NYC a few weeks ago called Root & Bone- It was AMAZING! -The best fried chicken and waffles I've ever gad. While good, cheeks isn't nearly as impressive. Cheeks is located in a strip mall in manchester. The food is ok, but not close to five stars. The chicken was ok, but lacked seasoning. The waffle seemed a bit thin. Tenders and a waffle. That's what I got at Cheeks. What I received was 3 large meaty tenders and a nice sized liege waffle. While the tenders were large, meaty and freshly made they were also soggy instead of crispy and they tasted completely unseasoned. The accompanying buffalo sauce was text book made from what tasted like Frank's Red Hot and butter. Fine but nothing special. The waffle was tasty as was the syrup that covered it. Simple good food. Decided to try this place a few months after they moved from the trailer in the parking lot to the store front to get their stuff together in a real kitchen. I called in an order of a regular chicken sandwich (no sauce-wanted to true taste test) a order hash fries, fried macaroni bites and 6 piece wings with teriyaki sauce. I walked in and the place was empty. One employee was on the phone manning the counter, and two more guys in the back. Told them that I called in my order, one guy comes up front and the counter guy checks the different containers, verifies the order. Arrive at home, the chicken sandwich was good sized piece of meat but could have used some salt or pepper or some kind of seasoning.The pickle was a nice touch on the sandwich but maybe two or three would have been really great. The hash fries were good but lacked seasoning. The fried macaroni bites were good but once again they lacked seasoning. The fried wings were soaked in teriyaki sauce, which was good but extremely messy. Because the food was being eaten at home, we could sprinkle a little bit of salt and cayenne pepper on each of the different items and had plenty of napkins which could save the meals. First the waffles taste wonderful. These aren't like any waffles I've ever had - much denser but they are seriously tasty and delicious. I ordered mine with the strawberry sauce. Since we were taking it out, it would have been a lovely courtesy to offer to put the strawberries in a separate little container because being frozen/reconstituted they were "saucy" and by the time we brought the order home my waffle was very soggy. Fortunately we ordered more than one waffle so there was a plain one for me to snatch a bite out of and it was also delicious - both were great - plain or soggy. I guess because they're so dense, the soggy waffle held up and did not entirely dissolve. I've decided I could live on the Cheeks waffles. with a little whipped cream - soggy or not - and with strawberries? Heaven - plain and simple. I am sad to report the chicken breasts were ungodly dry and tough and flavorless to boot, which is why I downgraded the stars. I can live with waffles sogged out with strawberries because they were delicious ...........BUT totally unseasoned and too dry chicken breast is never acceptable. My guess is they count on the sauces to supply the seasoning (and maybe some moisture) but less salt in the sauces with a little seasoning on the chicken might be a tastier choice. No one wants to bite into a piece of chicken with NO seasoning at all. I'm not kidding. ZERO salt. That is not a good thing. I haven't figured why the chicken breasts were so dry and tough because the color didn't indiciate that they were overcooked - however the order took forever to come out, so it's possible the heat wasn't high enough to burn them - just high enough and long enough to turn them into quasi-pliable jerky. Or they were heated in a microwave for too long. We will return though, pricey as Cheeks Chicken is - and it IS. Maybe the sandwich combos are reasonable but warning: if you order a la carte, bring your big kid wallet. Also be prepared to wait a long long time, even if there's no one there waiting with you. Bring reading material or watch television and get depressed at the state of our country. (All the more reason to drown your troubles in waffles and whipped cream.) In summary - I liked the waffles. No actually LOVED the waffles. The chicken breasts, not so much. We haven't tried everything on the menu and we'd like to try the wings and a sandwich combo. Enough people love them that I think we're willing to get in there and mix it up with the chicken! You know, the first time we visited I was excited - probably because of the novelty of the place. They have a pretty large number of sauces, some interesting combos and an intriguing menu. But the number of times we've been disappointed since has been too many. I probably chalked it up to them just opening at the time, but as recently as last week we experienced very long wait times and messed up orders. Sadly this has happened almost every time we've been. I will say that some of their sauces are very tasty and the hash fries are delicious, BUT those don't make up for the numerous poor experiences. Staff tends to be friendly and helpful when they do mess up, but man, seems like they should be in the swing of things this far in. As someone noted in another review, it's basically like an indoor food truck. 3 picnic tables inside for dining, bare bones which is fine but if you're a quick service restaurant it shouldn't take 1/2 hr for food to come out. I put the order in at about 3:00 pm and came to pick up at about 3:30 pm. The cashier asked me what I ordered as if it wasn't clearly written on the receipt and nothing was together. I asked for bleu cheese, ketchup and bottled water with my meal. None of it was with my order. Instead he points me in the direction if the condiment station and fridge to gather my own meal. Got there and it smelled heavenly. Picked up my order and couldn't handle how good it was making my car smell so I started eating it on the drive home. I also got a free sandwich thrown in & I thought I was at Chick-Fil-A! Though I must say, Cheek's chicken is larger and the bun really buttery. Not sure if I'm ready to say the sandwich is better than CFA's, but if not, it's certainly on par. I returned the next day. I like wings but generally prefer boneless chicken so when I went back, I got a breast that they use for the sandwiches along with a waffle. Great choice. Make sure you try the honey butter & powdered sugar syrup! Also I went back with my wife who doesn't get as excited as I do about food but she loved it. If u like your hot sauce really hot as my wife does, get the Carolina Reaper sauce. You won't be disappointed. Lastly, not only amazing food, but good prices, great service. Highly recommend if you're in the Manchester area. I stopped by between work and class and got the tenders n waffles. It's 3 tenders and 1 waffle. I'm a big guy and could barely finish it. Trust me, it's a lot of food. I got the sweet chili sauce by recommendation of the service representative. Loved it. Kind of like a Thai chili. The waffle was perfect texture and consistency. Atmosphere is very relaxed. There's not a ton of space so plan on take out or plan to wait a bit. Everyone from the rep who took my order to the chef were very friendly. All the customers who were eating were laughing with each other like old friends. I was surprised to find out they didn't know each other. Stop by for a chicken sandwich the other day. This is the first time since they moved into the strip. Bare bones decor but still a quality chicken sandwich. The best I ever had . I always order the spicy deluxe. Which comes with pickles , let, and tomatoes. I always hold the cheese. Never been a fan of cheese on my chicken sandwiches. It came out pretty quick as we were there just after the lunch crowd . It was piping hot. So wait a min before you take your first bite. There spicy chipotle sauce is right on. Will definitely be back and may even try something else next time. Cheeks chicken is a great lunch stop if u are in the Manchester area. They operate out of their food truck . In the near future they will have a spot in the strip mall they are in front of. I've been there 5 times and the spicy chicken sandwich is the best I've ever had. I can't find my self ordering anything else. It's made fresh while you wait, so it does take a few mins. Be patient quality takes time. You can also call ahead or email them. The lady at the register is very kind, sweet and caring. Took us a minute to figure out what to get. We got the chicken nugget meal for the little one, hubby got the chicken sandwich meal and I got the Carolina Reaper wing meal. Minus a couple stars because 2 or 3 customers that came after us, got their food before us. Getting hangry people...WTH?! Food comes. Two of the sides were hash fries and one was sweet potato fries. Man- those hash fries- two very enthusiastic thumbs up for those...even the picky 4 year old loved those. Sweet potato fries were nice but if I had to choose- the hash fries would win every time. Their drinks are all canned soda or bottled tea/water. No fountain drinks here. Little one liked her chicken nuggets well enough. The wings are VERY heavily battered. The drummettes don't look like drummettes! The Carolina Reaper sauce is touted as being the hottest they had but it did nothing for me. Besides it tasted pretty salty and according to hubby- a bit sour also. Wouldn't order this flavor again but I think that's just a matter of taste preference. Heard about this place via an online search for best wings in CT. Been here twice(4 months apart). First order I only got 6 Buffalo wings. They were solid and definitely one of the best I've had here. The most recent trip I decided to get 12 wings and hash fries. Fries were amazing, they are basically wedges. The wings on the other hand were mediocre at best. Buffalo sauce had no kick and the sauce didn't really taste like Buffalo sauce that I've come to know as Buffalo sauce. Wings were already soggy by time I got them, which wasn't surprising based on how it's prepared. Overall very underwhelming experience. Might try one more time to see if the third time is a charm and maybe they just had a bad day since the first time was actually solid. Overall 3 stars with a chance for redemption. read more

I've been ordering take-out from Cheeks for the last few months now. The ratio-to-quality ratio of this place is amazing! I usually get their tenders and waffle combo but I recently went for the chicken sandwich. My first order with them had a slower turnaround time (probably from newly transitioning from truck to restaurant) but every other order has been fast! Tenders: I've ordered the honey mustard, original (buffalo), BBQ, and garlic parmesan dry rub. The honey mustard is my favorite. The sauces are homemade; I didn't love the original but the others made up for it. The wings themselves are what make this place stand out from the competition. This place makes some pretty legit chicken. The meat is always the perfect level of juice, the correct proportion of breading to chicken, and the sauces are obviously homemade and delicious. Waffle: I have a sweet tooth... this is the best thing about this place. This is not a low-fat waffle. This is a sugar-crusted, butter-oozing, piece of heaven waffle. I need nothing more than the powdered sugar to feel like all of my dreams are coming true. Chicken sandwich: Same quality of chicken with a chipotle mayo sauce. It's quite tasty, definitely on par with the tenders. I prefer wings and tenders so I imagine I will only get the sandwich when I need a change of pace in the future. Overall, the price is right for an order with a LOT of food, the food itself (albeit not the best for you) is absolutely delicious. Wow! My wife and I decided to try after reading bio in the paper and I'm so glad we did. The food is beyond excellent. I had the chicken and waffles and I was kicking myself for not getting a double order. My wife had the chicken sandwich and loved it but after having a bite of my waffle she was asking what time we would be returning tomorrow. Prices are beyond resonance. Food is amazing!! The owner Mr. cheeks was the most helpful and hospitable person ever! He gave us a thorough explanation on our first time visit. He suggested the chicken tenders and waffles and they were beyond good. Gave me the option to choose different sauces for the chicken tenders and it made our meals so delicious. The sides were phenomenal highly recommend the hash fries but my girlfriend was praising the Mac and cheese. Every bite was so good. We're visiting from Maryland and liked it so much yesterday we're on our way back right now. Maybe going tomorrow too. The place was super clean, the food came out fast and you could tell how fresh it was. W-O-W! This place is great! My other half lives on chicken so this is right up his alley. Decided to skip going to chic-fil-a and try something more local. Glad we did! We ordered two of the chicken sandwiches and the chicken tenders...OMG it was SO MUCH FOOD! We didn't even finish the chicken tenders which were amazing. It's a small two person kitchen so plan on waiting 10-15 minutes for your order on a busy night if you walk in like we did. No issue with that though, it was worth the wait.
