Tiny shop that's standing room only with no indoor seating, so it's a quick in and out trip, if there's no line. Ordering online is also an option, but I like to gamble, so I did a pickup via walk-in. I've recently ordered 3 for a family Christmas gathering. Thankfully our event was the day after Christmas (so they were open), but the only item available was the ube cheesecakes - no other flavor or type. But that was okay, because it helped narrow my options down (I knew the ube cheesecakes would be much-wanted dessert, so I got 3). Truly awesome cheese + castella (Cheesetella) place that serves fluffy castellas with cheese but their drinks like their strawberry milk and yuzu soda are delicious. This store had its first location in LA but this is one in Irvine. Service amazing and I saw the beverages being prepared fresh on the spot. Best items I've had so far are original/plain castella and chocotella. Both are light and fluffy, like a cross between sponge cake and the airy type of cheesecake. Plain castella has no filling, while chocotella has mini chocolate chips spread out along the bottom. Not too sweet but are very tasty! I've also had the ube cheesecake and one of their milk tea drinks. Ube cheesecake was quite delicious! Its decent ube flavor and almost creamy texture make it richer in taste compared to the castellas, but it's still super airy. I honestly prefer castellas to cheesecakes, though. Lastly, the milk tea was pretty standard - sweet and creamy. I thought it was expensive for the size it came in, especially since the drink itself was just ok. Anytime I bring or gift a cake from here, it's a hit with everyone. Can't go wrong with their baked goods. Plain castella being $11.25 is competitively priced for the quality. The shop itself is very small but with a bright and clean interior. Staff are friendly, and they'll usually have samples of their popular items near the register. Ok... so I saw all the hype and everyone was talking about their rectangular fluffy cakes with cream inside.... So I went gung-ho and bought THREE different cakes from there... so here's the truth: 1) chocolate w/mocha cream- I'm not big on chocolate unless it's perfect. This was NOT for me, although my friend and adult son loooved it. The cream is like a sweet mocha.. similar to the Filipino style mocha cake. The chocolate cake was a little dry for me. I did appreciate the mild sweetness of the cake. I prefer less sweet cakes. I gave this cake a 3.5 of 5 stars. 2) original cake (vanilla?) with sweet cream- I enjoyed this more than the chocolate. My neighbors loved it. I still found it to be a little on the dry side, but better than the chocolate cake, so it wasn't my favorite. The cake is very similar to like an angel cake and a pound cake put together. The cream was sweet and fluffy. Definitely very good. I gave this cake a 4 of 5 stars. 3) Ube cake- now of all the cakes this was my ultimate favorite and I think I ate most of it by myself within two days. The flavor was nice and it was so moist and sweet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth but not so much that would make me sick. I would come back again just for this cake. Even my 4-yr old loved it and we honestly just ate it with our hands because it was so good. If you're Filipino, it's basically a mamon in Ube flavoring. The cake was a 10! It's a little round purple cake, and definitely the star of the show for me. It's a very small little shop not a lot going on and nowhere to sit to eat. I did not try any of the drinks only because the cakes are a little pricey, but they are definitely big enough to share so don't go there by yourself. They are truly Kate and I guess the only bad thing is that they don't offer them in smaller sizes for those of us that don't always have a million people to share with. read more

This might just be the best hidden jewel in all of Irvine! A friend recommended Cheesetella, saying they had the classic old-school sponge cake you'd find in Asia, and he was absolutely right. But Cheesetella takes it a step further, offering several delicious filling options. I went with the cheese filling, and it was insanely good! I also picked up a cheesecake just to try it out, and honestly, it's even better than the ones from the big-name Japanese chains. Of course, I couldn't leave without trying one of their milk teas. Although this shop is located in a busy strip mall, I went to Cheesetella in the mid-afternoon and parking was easy. The name of the shop "Cheesetella" is very easy to see from the parking lot. FOOD. Purchased Chocotella Castella and warmed it in a microwave at home. The chocotella was airy and fluffy and reminded me of a lightly sweetened cocoa flavor spongecake with bits of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the bottom layer. If you want the full flavor of the chocolate chips in the bottom layer, you should gently heat the chocotella to melt the chocolate bits. The chocotella is not heavily sweetened with flavor.
