3.5 stars Hailed as the best dimsum in Richmond, BC but I would have to disagree. Maybe it's because they put a bit of a twist on your typical dimsum dishes but I felt the flavors lacking compared to the dimsum I've had at other restaurants. Loved: Malaysian sponge cake- Aromatic and springy Sweet salty egg yolk lava bun- Tasty and aesthetic Liked: Stir fried sticky rice with preserved meat- Rice was prepared well but overall it was a bit too salty Ok: Black truffle siu mai- I usually like the flavor of black truffle but I don't think it pairs well with siu mai Deep fried tofu with spicy salt- Maybe they forgot to add the seasoning because this dish tasted bland. Bummer since we love fried tofu. Deep fried abalone pastry- Too greasy The decor is upscale and classy and the ambience is nice as well. They play piano versions of old school Cantopop songs. Service was friendly and attentive. I likely won't be back since I prefer my dimsum dishes prepared the more traditional way.

Wow...life altering dim sum! The food was fantastic. I did not have a big enough party to order more dishes, but I was completely satisfied with my meal! I especially enjoyed the baked Abalone Mushrooms Pastries, Truffle Pork & Shrimp Dumplings and Lava Buns! The restaurant was a decent size, had many tables and the ambiance was what's expected at a dim sum restaurant. It was packed for lunch on a random Thursday. I was still seated immediately. Kenny was my main wait staff and took good care of me. He timed out my dessert so I can enjoy it at the right moment. Kenny packed up my leftovers and tied up my bag nicely. Amazing food and great service. I will for sure return!

Claws and tail and head, are all there. Missing the best few pieces of the lobster's body.

Ordered the lobster eggplant spicy sauce. I cook lobster at home so I know when the juiciest best pieces were missing from our plate. Claws and tail and head, ALL THE UNEATABLE shells are all there. Missing the best few fleshy pieces of the lobster's body. Waitress declined to let me pick the "live" lobster myself- so must trust the restaurant, which I had to. Wish I didn't. I don't appreciate being fooled. Please be aware.

The service here really sucks!! They said that you need to call in to reserve a table but you still have to wait when you show up for your reservation. On top of this, after we ordered on the paper menu, the server came up to us telling us that they LOST our order and we need to re-order it again. I triple confirmed with the server who said yes I need to re-order it. So then I submitted a second paper order, but then they Messed up the order where they added a wrong item and forgot to include one item I ordered even though everything is checked correctly on the menu. When I inquired them about this, they blamed on me saying that why I ordered it twice. I told them that I didn't, and one of the servers told us they lost the menu. The service here is absolutely terrible and definitely super short staffed. There's pretty much no service involved. The staff they hired are super busy turning over tables and very rude when you ask them a question. They totally ignored us when we asked for chili oil to 2 different people, had to ask a 3rd person to get the chili oil. Food is average compared to the other dim sum places in the area. There are so many other better choices which doesn't make you mad leaving a restaurant. Would NOT come back.

Got there 10 minutes before opening incase it got busy. It did get busy quick, but no one was waiting when we finished about 1hr later. Service was fast and waiters were polite. Salted egg yolk bun - This was pretty standard fare now adays. Sweet salty, creamy delicious. Similar to what you can get in Toronto. Black truffle siumai - A bit overtop imo. Truffle felt excessive and also underwhelming. Would rather just get a regular siumai. Also definitely a lower pork - shrimp ratio, not complaining, just noting the fact. Milky egg tarts - Flaky crust, tarts came out warm. BBQ pork bun - Baked chasiu bao, really hard to find now adays. Came out warm and was delicious. Came out coated with an extra honey glaze ontop. Great to try, but not sure if it beats out Toronto dimsum. The prices are higher for sure, so probably will not come back to this place. Will need to try other vancouver dimsum to compare.

Lobster over fried rice

Visited on a Sunday afternoon for dim sum, and it was a pleasant experience! Food: We tried the lobster over egg fried rice, and it was delicious with fluffy eggs. Each dim sum dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. Love them! Interior: The restaurant has a beautifully decorated interior and clean with comfortable seating that adds to the experience. Customer Service: The staff greeted us warmly and checked in frequently. Since it's Richmond BC, Cantonese is primarily spoken, which adds authenticity to the experience. Overall, we had an enjoyable meal and will definitely be returning!

We got treated to a dinner at Chef Tony. There were multiple courses. Food was decent but honestly, we were expecting more from this place considering the rave reviews we've heard about it over the years. Two of the dishes were ordered were supposed to have truffle in them but we didn't taste any truffle flavor in it. We tried some food from the Chef Tony food stall at the food court in Metrotown a few years ago. There was actually more truffle flavor from that food than from these dishes that we had at the actual Chef Tony restaurant in Richmond. Kinda sad. Lobster and fish were quite good. Not outstanding but good enough to be called good. Don't think we need to come here again.

This is definite one of Vancouver's best dimsum. I went here twice and only have two photos because I can't wait to try the food. I like truffle and I never thought how good it is with dim sum. I would recommend to get truffle siu mai and salted egg lava bun. The siu mai is juicy and the truffle is a really good flavor to go with it. I like the salted egg lava bun because it's not too sweet and I can taste the yolk. The rice rolls are very plain. The steamed cuttlefish ink shrimp dumplings have an interesting look but the taste is ok like other dimsum places. Overall, pretty good dimsum place and would love to try more food from them.

I would give this place 0 star if I could. When my family and I first got seated we didn't really feel welcomed as if it was a hassle to serve us I get that they're busy so I just kind of disregard it at first. The staff didn't really check up on us either only when they're bringing the food out that's when we could get a hold of them to ask for extra napkins and water, so we were all just sitting ducks at our table. We have no complaint about the food but service was atrocious, at the end literally right before I walked out of the restaurant a guy ran after me DEMANDING for tips and accused us for not paying the tab when WE DID saying "You didn't pay, the bill does not include tips WHERE'S the tips?" Literally his exact words, I had to show him my card payment and walked him back to the table we were at to show him the cash tips we left for them.... tips are optional not required, minds you we did left a $60+ cash tips for them at the table. Would not recommend coming here.

I came here with my best friend H for dim sum. Before coming here, I have heard lots of good things about this restaurant. It so happens that H wanted to have Chinese food and of course I got to use my Yelper sense on finding that yummy restaurant. We showed up on a Sunday at around noon and because we didn't have a reservation, we had to wait for a table. We did noticed that priority are given to frequent customer (even without a reservation). The wait was about 30 mins. The restaurant was super busy when we arrived. Free parking is available around the open outdoor plaza. Each basket or plate came average around $11. Tea per person is $2. We ordered 4 items to share: -BBQ pork bun, -Beef rice roll -Truffle Siu Mai -Shrimp Dumpling We were also given complimentary peanuts on the house. Every dish was very tasty and were all freshly made upon order. Portion size was ok and I would say it was pretty standard dim sum size. My friend and I loved the Truffle Siu Mai. That was our favorite dish. The restaurant itself appeared clean and well upkept. Washroom inside was decent except they ran out of soap when I went in. I guess they need to check on the bathroom, stock up or clean the bathroom a bit more frequent. Overall, we did enjoy dining here and we will definitely be back.

Tasty but pricy dim sum place in the SW corner of Empire Centre. Parking is available in the strip mall lot, as well as the parkade on the NE side of the complex. The place is nice and bright. Shiny white walls, and chandeliers inside. Staff are professional and efficient. As mentioned before, dim sum is definitely on the pricier side, but I imagine this is pretty common in the modern era. Everything my friends and I ordered were good. See photos. Shrimp dumplings and siu mai are 5 to a basket. Personally I really enjoyed the deep fried fish skin with egg yolk, deep fried chicken knees, and beef brisket soup. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point. Recommended.

I had tried the dim sum when it had a stall inside metrotown food court and quite liked it. First time having the dim sum in the actual restaurant. Signage is bad, especially if you cannot read Chinese. Many signs are only in Chinese. I got lost and confused trying to find this place. Parking is available at both the multistory parkade and open space plaza. The food was good. We ordered a fair bit of food for 6 of us so we got to try plenty of stuff. I liked the truffle siu mai and pan fried radish cake. The service was quick, the staff were always ready to clear the empty dishes. The place was packed and luckily we had made a reservation and got seated almost immediately. Decent place for good dim sum but only for the brave to face the crowd and busy parking.

Driving up from Seattle, this is the place I always come back to. I think I prefer it to all the other dim sum places I've been too. I usually come with a big group so we just order a bunch of things and destroy it. Food is good and portions aren't stingy. I can't say it's the best dim sum restaurant, but I'm giving it a high rating because it always satisfies me when I have that dim sum craving. It checks all the boxes. Only thing I wish was it was cart, rather than a fill out menu, but I guess those are becoming more rare and rare. Service is always good to me when I'm there, I usually go on a weekday so wasn't busy at all. Some servers have limited English so I would just search up pictures and show them because when get the menu, some things are named like "snowball pastry" and I have no idea what that is LOL.

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. This visit was for dinner - and we were outside the door waiting even before they opened at 5:30. On a Tuesday. And we were already second in line. Celebrating a birthday, we had cold jellyfish starter, lobster fried e-fu mein, braised pomelo skin with seafood, and beef fried kai lan. The lobster was perfectly cooked. Even slight over-cooking can make the lobster meat tough. However, every piece was perfectly cooked. Including the large claws. Cooked with ginger and scallions, the lobster gravy coated each strand of e-fu noodles to umami yumminess. The braised pomelo skin was a special seasonal dish. I have not had this dish in many decades, and when I saw this in the special seasonal menu, I had to get it. The bittersweet braised pomelo skin complemented perfectly the fresh seafood, and topped a bed of Chinese spinach. It was the first time for the other members of my family and they literally sucked it all down. The beef with kai lan was another standout. Beef slices were tender and delicious and that perfectly complemented the well seared gai lan - great evidence of wok hei. Service is exemplary. Not just for a Chinese restaurant, but for any restaurant. The servers are constantly on the alert, and Everytime they see a plate filled with lobster shells, they would whip it away and replace it with a clean plate. They made sure that tea cups were filled and kept us updated with the delivery of the next dish. And at the end of the meal, dessert (Tong Shui) was complimentary... and they added a wonderfully light and flaky walnut cookie and piece of mochi for each of us.

Hei Hei Rice Roll is legit good, totally recommend, even my daughter too, I thought of her ( since she LOVES rice roll and couldn't make it on this trip with me) while enjoying these roll but when I shared with her the photos and mention that we will go back here with her- she already visited. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.
