Meeting up with a friend for dim sum on NYE and they suggested Sea Harbour Seafood. It is housed in the Great Canadian hotel and casino complex. It is a good location with amazing views from the parking lot....yeah crazy. There is free restaurant parking on the 7th floor (top) of the parkade and the views are great. The room is nice with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Ordered a few dim sum items...all pretty standard...enjoyed the eggplant with shrimp paste...my go to dim sum item. We've made this dim sum eatery into our rotation when we visit Canada and for many good reasons! First off the dim sum is prepared fresh and comes out piping hot. We have some favs including the egg plant with shrimp paste drizzled with abalone sauce, the prawn rice roll, har gao, shui mai, and fresh scallop and dumpling. This place is a bit of a local institution that has since really blossomed since its early days in the 90's. Even the current location at the River Rock Casino has had a makeover. I came for dimsum on a Saturday. Reservations are advised. Service was good as far as dimsum goes. The space is roomy and comfortable. Dining room was clean. Bathroom was just ok. Dimsum menu is huge. Foods we tried: truffle sauce-topped siu mai - if you take away the truffle sauce, its just average beef tendon/tripe - average flavour, cooked properly, perfect texture house special rice rolls - this was great. It was the pink one. Nice combo of plump shrimp/shrimp paste and crunch Rice rolls with pork and pea tips - also good pumpkin fried pancake - ok steamed beef balls - a little too soft for my taste but flavours on point and texture very bouncy pricing was reasonable Tea was about $3/head overall food is a solid 3.5-4/5. Wow wow. Told my friend that if we visit Seattle we have to go to Vancouver for Chinese food. We came here for dim sum. Not in Vancouver, but a Chinese village in Richmond Canada . Boy was I happy with the food and ambiance. Sea Harbor Seafood Restaurant is located on the bottom floor of an Indian Casino. There's convenient parking, is a transit station, and nearby the Vancouver airport. The first thing you notice is a nice frontage. The lobby is tiny, so you should make a reservation, otherwise you will be left out in the cold, literally. It can get cold outside. Once inside the main dining room I was quickly enticed in: modern, clean, and flavorful scents. FYI. Chinese restaurants are brightly lit. We ordered the basics. I always like to order the basics to gauge and compare dim sum establishments. We order shrimp dumplings (ha gow), pork dumplings (su my), spare pork ribs (pi ga-what), tripe, and sticky rice followed by egg custard tarts and almond/sesame jelly. Ha Gaw is basically shrimp wrapped in a transparent rice wrap that's steamed. It was perfect. The rice wrapping was chewy, but not watery. The shrimp were bite size, fresh, and lightly seasoned. So were the rest of the dishes. Delicate and delicious. There's an art to creating a balance between taste and texture and creating the desire to take another bite. Seafood Harbor creates that balance. Don't take my word for it. There were all kinds of people dining including many high-end clients. The service was professional and delightful. I was staying at the casino hotel for a trade show and wanted a decent meal without walking in the rain so decided to give it a try and it was pretty good. It's not really set up for a single diner but they seated me and took my order. They came back to tell me they were out of the shrimp dumplings I had ordered so I substituted the Sui Mai (not sure of the spelling) another steamed seafood dumpling and it was good. The main dish was a seafood dish in a light broth that was full of large scallops, shrimp, and shellfish that was very good. I would certainly return if staying here again. read more

Had dinner at Sea Harbour as recommended by a friend. It was weekday night and the binding room was about half full. Great ambiance and the server was very friendly and told us to pander no more than two dishes for two people as the portions are big. We ordered 1lb live spotted shrimps as it was in season. For a second dish, we ordered from the chef special menu (see attached photo). The concept was good as the fish roe added a crunchy component. The dish was mostly glass noodles with a few small pieces of duck liver and small amount of bean sprouts. More bean sprouts and duck liver would have made it a more successful dish. The service was on the slow side: ~10 minutes to take drink orders and 10-15 minutes to pay the bill. The restaurant offers complimentary parking if you park in the designated area, but there were no signs to direct customers outside of the parkade. I haven't been to Sea Harbour since they renovated and decided to see what the difference was! Even in a weekday in the late afternoon (~1:30pm), we still had to wait around 15-20 minutes for a table. For a dim sum restaurant, the tables were decently spread apart and noise was not too loud, which is nice! Not sure how it would be on the weekends though. Tea price was $2.50/pp which is on the pricier side. They had a place to put your tea to keep it hot at all times, which was a nice touch. Also came with a smaller cup that no one really knew what to do with it. We ordered 6 items - see receipt. My favourite was the crispy prawn rice rolls. It was like a spring roll wrapped in a rice roll with a lot of different textures! The custard bun was also quite nice with enough gooey insides for each bite to have a part of it. Overall, I think that their dim sum is on the pricier side and food was just okay. All their items are quite standard compared to other places out in Richmond and wasn't anything too special. We had reservations for 8 at 11:30 and was seated immediately and was glad we had made reservations as it was busy. Great atmosphere with bright lights and felt open and clean. We live where dim sum is plentiful but wanted to try dim sum in Vancouver. We ordered many dishes and dishes were delicious. I would rate it as good as the ones we can get at home. This is one of our family favorites for dim sum, free parking on level 7 and serving portion is pretty good. The price is more expensive than other places but it has a fine dining decor and ambiance. The service exceeds my expectations as they were quick to refill our tea and bring our hot sauce. Since the place gets busy on weekends they did impose a 90-minute limit if you stop ordering food. By Washington State standards, this dim sum is probably four or five stars in terms of taste and quality. I think they get dinged because there is so much fierce competition of good Chinese food. Then there is the price. The dim sum is probably $2 more than most places. The food is on the more pricier side but the quality of the food was good. Our server was very nice and we got to sit at a nice spacious table. The person who took our payment looked a little impatient because we were paying with a gift card and couldn't get it to work. I was in a diverse crowd of people heading to dinner after our conference and upon entry the waitress asked us to confirm if we could afford the offerings on the menu. That gave us all a pause. Nonetheless, as there were limited options in the area, we decided to dine in anyway. The restaurant is filled with patrons coming from the casino across the street and can get a bit loud. For an elegant space, I expected a more reserved crowd. The food was not impressive and I unfortunately experienced an adverse reaction to the peppers in the chicken and shrimp dish. Cantonese dimsum and seafood restaurant, located across from the River Rock Casino. Years ago they were located on No.3 across from Yaohan Centre. Mid to large size interior, with bright, light colored design. Busy for dimsum on a weekday. We made a reservation and didn't have to wait. Like most places in the area nowadays, you pick your dimsum via an ordering sheet. The nice thing here is that their ordering sheet has photos of every item, so you know what you are ordering. We got an assortment of dimsum. My favorite were the fried taro dumplings (which not many restaurants do well) and the egg custard buns that are shaped like shiitake mushrooms. The steamed pork rib, beef changfen (rice noodles), and shrimp dumplings were also good. The shumai, egg tarts, and daikon cake were okay. We also got the pine nut, wild rice, egg white and shrimp fried rice, and that was very tasty. Stir fried very well in a way that's neither too oily or too dry. Bill was $120 total for 3 people. It was my first time having dim sum at this restaurant and I should have checked where to drop off seniors beforehand. There is a driveway on River Road where I could have dropped off seniors near the restaurant's entrance, but because I entered the parkade from Great Canadian Way, I did not know it would be easier to let the passengers off on River Road. I saw disabled parking on a lower level, but I wasn't sure if I could park there, so I let my passengers off and went to park at the top level. The passengers later told me that the area had a heavy smell of urine. I found the parking signs confusing, at one point I followed the signs and went up the parkade on the other side, when I finally got to the top level, there was a "no entry" sign near the elevator, it was ambiguous whether it was really one way. I had to go down one level to get back to the "correct" direction to access the parking. Our party of 7 had a reservation at noon; however, our table wasn't ready until 12:45 p.m. and there were only two chairs for people waiting. The seniors in my party were not able to have a seat and the wait for not easy for them. We were the last party being seated, I do not have any proof but I have a feeling that regular customers were given a priority to be seated. The food was not too bad, every dim sum dish that we ordered tasted good; however, nothing stood out in particular. We also ordered a fried rice noodle dish but were told that rice noodles were sold out. This was a disappointment and also a surprise, I would not expect a restaurant at this price range would not have enough ingredients for such a common dish. So glad I decided to try the dim sum food was exceptional! We have the fried tofu, truffle siu mai, taro cake, mushroom dumpling, custard Bao and little, fried football, and coco ut dessert bin nies. Every bite was pipiping hot and very well make. What stands out is that dim sum is light, not greasy, so you don't leave with a heavy feeling that dim sum can sometimes leave in regular dim sum places. I think it helped since we ordered a set menu and called ahead of time. My favorites were the chicken with truffle. Best I've had in the city full of truffle flavor and not too heavy on the oil. We have been at Richmond, BC multiple times and went to multiple restaurants. This restaurant has very bad service. They did not provide tea. All we got was a pot of hot water. They charged us $8.5 for a pot of water without telling us. They said tea and water is same price. At check out, we were forced to put down 10% tips. We asked if the lady could show us where on the menu says tips is required. She denied to provide it and she just put down tips before letting us take off. I was very blessed to dine with Yelper Andrew in the area today who introduced me to the fine dim sum dining this place has to offer. Let me explain why this should be your first-stop HK dim sum restaurant upon passing the border / landing at the airport: Quality | many of you know that I am tough on dim sum restaurants. However I could not find anything to nitpick about the food here. The tea was excellent. Dumplings came out hot, fresh, and with generous portions. All the bao-type had the softest texture coupled with the perfect amount of sweetness. Definitely get the " #1 ocean port bbq bun" (第一海港包). I also enjoyed the shrimp spring roll tremendously: how did they get such layered textures of crunch?! Also, don't forget the classic pork ribs, beef ball with Worcester sauce, and the Phoenix claws. The dried beef chow fun was also very surprising. Beef was a very nice, tasty cut paired with very well-textured noodles.
