Wow, I am impressed! I live a mile away from this place and never thought to try it, let me tell you! I have been missing out! I ordered for takeout 2 Turkey and bacon clubs with fries and the way they packaged my food was so attentive. My fries were placed in separate containers. Perfectly crinkled and crispy. My sandwich was huge and great. It was the way they packed it that impressed me they also included 2 ketchup containers which I loved! But the star of this show was the banana cream pie!!! There were plenty of Booths Available in that area with people enjoying their Breakfast (Meal) so I know it was not closed. I live in the area. I always pass this location and decided to try it for the first time. First impressions are important. The table I was seated in was not clean, I could see the crumbs and bits of food from previous customers. I cleaned it off with a napkin. The first person that came up to me, "what do you want to drink?". No hello or hi, or a good morning. I quickly ordered an orange juice, did not want to interact any longer with the grouchy individual. The waitress was pleasant, I ordered a breakfast burrito. The food arrived quickly, but was enormous. I ate half, the side items a plate of food and a piece of tomato tastes stale, so I didn't eat them. I paid for my food a burrito and orange juice, $24.41 Considering the initial treating, the dirty table, and the price. I will not be returning. That's just too much to pay for one burrito and a drink. I can get a much better deal for something equivalent at other places. This place is a hidden gem. First time here, and lived close by our entire lives. I had the pastrami omelette, I didn't expect that it was going to come with a side of delicious biscuits and gravy. The pastrami was diced and mixed in, and made the omelette taste like they were made to be together. Thumbs up! The only way I can get my sister to wake up early on a Saturday morning is the promise of good food. We always go to Cantonese brunch places, so we both thought we'd try something different. I have seen Chef's for many years as I always drive pass it, but I never really gave it much thought. The reviews were decent, and since it was close by, I decided to give it a try. The best decision I made that day! There's plenty of parking if you turn onto Santa Anita from Las Tunas before turning into the parking lot. It does get pretty crowded during breakfast/brunch hours, but people come and go pretty fast that it's not too long of a wait. We waited for maybe about 5 minutes before getting a booth. The menu is extensive with a lot of different combinations and items. We decided to just split the Lumberjack Breakfast which was $7.75 for a Belgian waffle, 3 eggs, 3 bacon or sausage and a small orange juice or coffee alongside a side of hash browns.That's pretty worth it since a Belgian waffle and 2 eggs is already $6.95. They also have Belgian Waffle specials on weekdays before 11 AM I believe. Anyway, the waitress was like ... yeah, that's more than enough food for two girls. While the diner was very busy, there didn't seem to be much service. Our waitress looked like she was taking care of the entire left side of the restaurant! She was ordering, serving, cleaning, etc. And the other sections that other people seemed to be taking care of were much smaller than the section I was in. But the food arrived pretty quickly and oh my gosh, there was a lot of food but what really made me smile was the Belgian waffle. That thing is huge and super super delicious. It came with a side of butter and syrup, and when you mix that with the waffle, it's super melt in your mouth scrumptious! I'm a fan of waffles (especially the ones you make in the college dining halls) so these are a bit sweeter and more crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle, but so good. My sister and I finished every bite! She also finished all the bacon. The eggs ... nothing special. I ordered them over-easy but they were too undercooked for my liking. I also really liked the hash browns. They were crispy on the top but not too burned, and had a very fresh potato-y taste. It didn't taste oily or unhealthy at all! I think one of the best hash browns I have tasted. And what made this the best meal ever? It was only about $10 for two people! And the meal lasted me well until dinnertime. A bargain or what? Those restaurants that you pass by but never go to? They're there for a reason. You won't know what food is out there until you give it a try! I'm super glad I did. read more

Experienced a bad service today. We're customer of this restaurant since 2013. My friend and I comes almost everyday Sunday morning for our breakfast, enjoyed the food. However, for 11 years of being a customer today, we experienced the worst customer service. The cashier/server has a big mouth to talked back to a customer for a simple extra napkins we're asked. Even, though our tone of voice was in low calm tone this server still rude. She go around others and told why she raised her voice, doesn't care if we're there. First let me tell you my first impression about having to wait for a table in a not-so-crowded restaurant. I was THRILLED. Why? Because the food server who was going to assist me with my meal was cleaning the surrounding tables. The restaurant is immaculate and the patrons are well-spaced between tables. She pointed to a few options and I seated myself with a menu that I took from the cash register. I like being an active participant and don't feel as if I need to be treated like an invalid. She asked me for my drink preference when she put down the utensils and napkin and the piping hot coffee in the heavy duty mug came immediately. I had ordered the pastrami omelette (only because I had seen someone here write about it... I had never heard of it before). For choice of potato I opted to have the American potatoes O'Brien and for bread I had biscuits and gravy (and again, that is something that I have never had in my American life). The portions were enormous and if this had been a to-go order, it could have fed three of me. The coffee refills were attentive, but not overly effusive. The coffee was diner coffee... if you want something burned tasting with five flavors of cream and eighteen options of sweetener, then go elsewhere! There is a 50c surcharge for using a credit or debit card. Signage on that is clearly seen upon entering the establishment (at the cash register). My bill came in hand written form placed on the table upside down and the waitress let me know that there was no rush. When I went to check out the credit card was accepted and I added a credit card tip (sadly, I didn't have any cash money on me or I would have left a nice tip). THE RESTAURANT/DINER/CAFE IS IMMACULATE, THE PORTIONS ARE ENORMOUS, THE SERVICE IS PROMPT, THE PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE, THE FOOD THAT IS SERVED MATCHES WHAT IS PROMISED, THE SERVERS ARE FRIENDLY, THE OFFERINGS ARE VARIED! This restaurant has character and charm. It has been doing business for quite some time and -- unlike the NORMS up the street or the Denny's in Anytown, USA, it does not have a cookie-cutter menu. The food options were familiar and the portion sizes were large. The food was quite tasty. I believe the diner is a slice of Americana that puts it into the realm of institution that should be cherished. it is part of our culture and heritage and it is a great asset to the community. Arcadia is dotted with a number of diners that have weathered these hard times during the COVID era and they should be rewarded with patronage for the service they provide. The restaurant is located on two major thoroughfares so it is easy to access from any direction. It is also duly noted that there is ample parking in the back. Well worth the drive. Even though it had an old school diner feel, the service was slow. After your food comes, the waitress disappears til the bill comes. More like 3.5/5 stars. This place is a no frill simple breakfast spot. When it gets busy, you'll have a hard time finding parking. This place also has a lot of two seater tables, so if it's just two if you it might be easier to get seated. Last time we went, we got three hobo omelette and the country special. Both dishes were hearty and delicious. They ran out of biscuits for my country special, so they just gave me toast with gravy on the side. They also have alot of deals and combos going on, and I believe they serve lunch and dinner items as well, so if you're not a breakfast person, you'll find something you'd like. The bathrooms are one stall, so if someone is in it you can't enter it. You'll have to wait. As for the bill, you get the check at the table and bring it up to cash register in the front to pay. it's a shame i have to write this review in this manner because the food we ordered was amazing. i ordered a popeye's omelette with a side of hash browns and pancakes, and although i didn't finish the pancakes, the omelette and hash browns were delicious--and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually order a side of hash browns. my friend got the french toast and it was also good; it was fluffy and not too sweet without the syrup and butter. as for the service, we had two servers helping us out: one that sat us down, and another that took and delivered our orders. the latter was so sweet and kind, and checked on us after we began eating. the former though? she didn't seem enthusiastic at first which, i get it, but she was extremely rude to my friend when she confronted her about our bill. we noticed that our total was VERY off. we only ordered 2 dishes and it allegedly amounted to around $57, which we both knew it was not correct. we were trying to find a worker to let them know about the bill, and we happened to encounter the server that had sat us down, and instead of acknowledging the mistake done upon calculating, she mocked us and asked us why we tried changing the bill. it was this moment that changed our minds about this restaurant, unfortunately, and convinced us not to come back. again, it's such a shame considering how good the food and the second waitress's services was, but something small such as that interaction has a deep impact on a customer's perspective on the business. read more

First off I would like to break down my reviews, this first review will be from the combinations of visits I had from the random times I stopped by for breakfast either by myself or with family. I have been coming to Chef Coffee at random moments of time after or during my errand runs usually in the early morning or afternoon. The experiences I had with with the waiters and waitress were amazing. The food in my personal opinion were good, (everyone has their own personal taste and reaction to food). I have food allergies to peanuts, seafood, certain avocados (blows my mind, sometimes it reacts and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it's a minor itchy throat and sometimes these reactions could bit a tiny bit of breathing issues or it can escalate to an anaphylactic shock ). So I am a bit picky on the places I go to. Throughout the years I have been to this place, I never had an issue with the food because when I bought up my concerns, the staff was very attentive to my concerns. This review will include the most recent experience that occurred on November 30, 2019 in the morning hours around 10-11 AM. This was with my dad who was visiting, he has a hearing impairment and a language issue. I do apologize I forgot the name of the waitress who served us but she was a professional at her job and was above all, very patience when I was translating to my dad. My dad loved the food that was bought out, even though he forgot to bring his fake teeth, he devoured the pancakes, bacon, eggs, and hash brown within 5 mins. There were no delay in waiting for our food, even though it was busy. There were no negative expressions by the staff when I communicated with my dad in Chinese, so overall experience for that date and prior was amazing.
