We got the Peruvian scallops and bread to start. Scallops were the best I've ever had with the most unique flavor. The bread is cooked fresh every day and you can tell. Mains: we got the pork belly & shrimp pasta both incredible. Overall such a unique experience that Long Beach needs. It's upscale but not stuffy at all. This place is a gem in Long Beach! And I predict will be future Michelin star restaurant. We had a 8 courses Chef's table hosted by John and chef Danny. Every single dish was delicious: bread platter, fillet mignon, moonfish, Hokkaido scallop, quail, venison, fruit tart. Chef Danny is very passionate about his cooking and apparently he changes the menu often (every week is a new menu for the chef's table!) The restaurant is clean with great ambiance for a romantic dinner or special occasion. There was a live musician playing when we went there. Chez Bacchus takes casual fine dining to the next level. There's nothing pretentious about the space or the staff. You'll be just as comfortable in your Saturday errand running clothes as dressed up in something a bit fancier. Their brand of elevated dining welcomes you either way. I came for the food, which did not disappoint, and ended up charmed by the entire experience. Parking in this area can be a trial, but the restaurant offers valet to make it easier. Walk inside and you're warmly greeted by the staff and shown to your white linen covered table. Little touches like the leather bound menu and extensive wine list will help set the mood. I tried two appetizers on my first visit: the garlic cream soup which was poured tableside, perfectly creamy with delightfully crunchy garlic naan croutons nestled at the bottom of the bowl; and the Spanish octopus which was wonderfully tender but my least favorite of the dishes I tried. I'm pretty sure I disappointed the sommelier by selecting my own wine to start, a nice Riesling. Before the main course was served my server brought me two reds to taste, as pairing suggestions for the lamb. Both were good and I appreciated the opportunity to try them before making a decision. And that lamb deserved a good wine. Perfectly tender, crystals of salt still clinging to it for the occasional burst of extra flavor, and heightened by the berry coulis, it was the best lamb I've ever had. A rainbow medley of vegetables surrounded it, and while all were good, the golden carrots stood out as exceptional. A pot of tea, locally sourced, and the rich cherry molten lava cake with gelato carried the meal through to its decadent end. And perhaps provided a tantalizing glimpse of what their upcoming afternoon teas might be like. Went here for tea w/ friends... I love afternoon tea with multi-tiered presentation. Thoroughly enjoyed the tea experience... tea offering comes out in loose wooden box display for your selection. Went with the Ear Grey with some added rose (wished they had maybe a couple more flavored black tea flavors ... they had chai, real rose petal and hibiscus and a couple of other herbals. The savory sandwiches were amazing and oh the egg salad was the Best I've ever had. It has a bit is spicey kick. The lemon curd and blueberry preserves are made fresh at the restaurant and so delicious!! The scone was a bit dry and I'm sure they will improve this. This is such a special little place in Long Beach. We planned a dinner there for a party of six in December. From the moment we pulled up until the end of our meal we were all treated with such warmth and friendliness. The food and drinks were fantastic. We decided to order (at least) one of everything on the menu and share amongst the table family style. We all sampled different cocktails and also had multiple tasting of wines. Even when we realized we ended up staying past their closing time, not once did they ever come over and ask us to wrap things up. They were still telling us stories and jokes and refilling our waters and asking if we needed anything else. Obviously once we realized it was that late we hurried out. Afternoon Tea THE GOOD...service, atmosphere, the rose tea, the salad, the egg salad tea sandwich, and the berry preserves JUST OK...the salmon cream cheese, the strawberry matcha cake, summer crush tea, super thick clotted cream and the lemon curd AWFUL...the chicken tea sandwich had zero flavor and the chicken was clunky, the dry scones which didn't have a hint of orange flavor, the "peanut butter cookie" which was dry, hard as a rock with no peanut butter flavor, lemon lavender cake pop IN ADDITION, being charged $2.50 per person for water which is not stated on the menu is ridiculous! Another outstanding dining experience at Chez Bacchus! I took my friend for her birthday and the amazing food literally left us giggling in awe about how exceptional everything tasted. My friend is a real foodie and has traveled and eaten all over the world and she said this was absolutely one of the best meals she's ever eaten in her life. That is really saying something! What takes the experience over the top is the service. It is clear everyone is so invested in each and every customer having a wonderful time. I had another great experience at Chez Bacchus. I made a reservation but my other friends were both running late. I called the restaurant to tell them I was running late and the hostess made no isssue. She just wanted us to get to the restaurant safely. Once we got to the restaurant, they. still kept the table they had set aside. It was a great table near the entrance but with a great view of the entire restaurant, especially the kitchen. I enjoyed the welcoming gesture. I then showed them the bottle of wine I had brought to enjoy. The sommelier decanted it for us. He let me taste it. It was great. He poured us our three glasses of the wine. I offered him some. Instead of taking a full glass, he only partook in a half a glass. This showed great class. We then ordered food enough for 4 to 6 people. We had a large serving of their bread. Don't skip the bread. It is underrated. We had their selection of bread with the olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar, special salt and roasted garlic. The bread alone will make you want to revisit this restaurant. Next we had the wild boar meatballs. It was interesting and worth ordering just to taste the leanness and game-yness of wild boar. It was tasty. Lastly we enjoyed our 36 oz porterhouse steak. They brought it out pre-sliced and with beef jus. Their were also sides of potato salad and mushroom. This is what it means to save the best for last. This was a very well prepared of steak that was tasty with the jus. Came in with a friend for afternoon tea. Parking can be a bit hard to find if you're opting for street parking. But you might get lucky if you arrive early, that's what we did. Our reservation wasn't found, host said something about a system malfunction however we were still accommodated and sat right away. Now for the actual tea and food, it was a lovely and new experience for me and definitely makes me want to experience tea time again. I liked all three of the savory sandwich bites as well as the scone and muffin. The top tier of the food tower was also good however the potted dessert had a weird smell. We opted for the green tea and the London fog I believe was the name of the other. I liked both teas my friend only liked the green tea. The service wasn't great but wasn't terrible either, just a bit slow. I would come back to try their dinner menu but for afternoon tea I saw that they are raising their prices soon and it does seem a bit steep for what you are getting in my opinion. Long overdue review for Chez Bacchus, an AMAZING addition to Long Beach! Chez Bacchus was not on my radar as I typically search for reservations in reservation apps like Open Table/Tock/Resy but my friend found this place on Yelp and I am glad she did!! Food: The food was SO good!!! I honestly don't have a favorite dish since everything tasted wonderful. The food is perfect either for eating your own meal or for sharing with a few people. We went heavy on the apps (all 3 appetizers + pate) and just ordered one entree and it was the perfect amount. We did add some bread later since we had extra pate left but ended up taking most of the bread home. (The small is more than enough for two people, and it's VERY good bread) We got: Transparent Sea Shrimp Hamachi Crudo Charred Spanish Octopus Chicken liver Pate Bacchus Bread Maple Leaf Duck Breast Service: Every single person we encountered were ALL amazing in both service and recommendations. Reina's hospitality was amazing from the minute we walked in. Our server was so helpful in narrowing down what we should order. John's Wine recommendations were spot on. Drinks: We chose to dine here due to wine list offering many "by the glass" options. What we didn't notice was how unique the wine list was. John's curation is amazing, and he also helped us discover wines we wouldn't have tried on our own (e.g. I typically don't go for Pinot Grigio but they had a pinot grigio on the by the glass menu that was amazing, not typical pinot grigio at all). His paring recommendations were amazing (which says a lot since we had multiple dishes) I am looking forward to trying more new/unique wines next time!! The dishes all tasted delicious, I really like their Rabbit Meatloaf, it didn't taste gamey at all, it was actually my first time trying rabbit. The Halibut and Octopus were really well-seasoned and cooked to perfection! They also have an incredible selection of wine, their staff is really knowledgeable and informed us the different flavor profiles on the types of wine that we've chosen. Had a wonderful dining experience here on a Saturday night. Party of 6 celebrating Mother's Day (early). From the second we walked in, we were greeted by friendly staff and seated. Our table was ready. The table was arranged nicely, and there was adequate room for six. The ambiance was perfect, lit just right and not too loud. We could all talk to one another and be part of the conversation, which can be hard at some restaurants. We had an extremely friendly and knowledgeable server. He knew the menu very well and described the entrees beautifully and answered all of our questions. I asked him which beers they had and he said they had bottled imports. He made a tray with 5 different chilled bottles and brought them to me so I could select one. Very thoughtful presentation. Now on to the food. We ordered some starters; the fromage plate came with a nice variety of cheeses, fruit, jam, olives, and nuts. The bread basket came with a variety of freshly baked and sliced breads that complimented the fromage tray. We ordered two citrus salads that were very refreshing with a nice array of citrus and light dressing. Each of us ordered an entree. Three halibut, one fried rice, one chicken, one steak. All cooked and presented beautifully. All were very flavorful. The white beans that were paired with the halibut were unbelievably delicious. Never did I think a bean could be so tasty. We brought our own bottle of wine, a 2004 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. They charge a $25 corkage, which is average for most fine dining restaurants. The wine was poured nicely in large tall stemmed glasses. It was poured early so it had time to breathe. After dinner, we enjoyed a few desserts for the table. The Tres Leches Cake and the Beignets. Both were very well prepared and delicious. The beignets were accompanied with a caramel sauce, a nice touch. All throughout the meal our water was refilled and we were checked in on appropriately by staff. With the tip, dinner was close to $600. We thought it was an outstanding fine dining experience and well worth the $100 per person cost. The valet was worth the money since parking is tough in the downtown area. Rey friendly and cost $15. So basically with a tip you can flip a $20 bill and not worry about the hassle of parking to make it a perfect evening. We will definitely return for dinner. I have no idea why this restaurant has 4.8 stars. It should've been a clue when I walked into the restaurant on a Saturday night and there was only 3 other tables seated. My wife ordered the bread and charred octopus. I ordered the prix fixed meal and we shared everything. We started with the scallops and it came flaming. That was the second clue, a good dish doesn't need theatrics. I was surprised to see peanuts in the dish. All I tasted was peanuts. Totally overwhelmed the tiny scallops. The octopus was chewy and didn't smell too great. Very fishy. She said the octopus I made at home was better. The braised lamb with home made pasta was very sweet and the lamb was cut into cubes. How does a braised lamb be able to cut into cubes? Oh because it was tough and dry. The house made pasta was horrible. Store bought pasta has better texture. We ended the meal with the fried to order beignets. The center was still raw and it was super dense. The waiter was nice enough to replace it with their peanut bar dessert which wasn't bad. Since the place was a ghost town and only two other parties were seated after us, it was kinda quiet. The front of house staff was discussing their work schedules loudly and was a bit distracting. This place considers themselves "Fine Dining" but it is anything but. It was very disappointing. Also not cheap. Price for 2 plus valet was about $200. This is without drinks. You will have a much better meal at a restaurant like Houston's for less and with better ambiance.
