John is indeed a master sommelier, but so down to earth that you feel it's a great friend chatting with you about the unique attributes of the winemaker and the region. Where do I start with this little gem of a restaurant! I came here with my husband and couple of our friends. Upon arrival, we were kindly greeted by the owner of the restaurant and immediately sat at our table! She was incredibly friendly and made us feel like we were part of her family! We sat down and were greeted by our server, where he explained the menu and wine list! Getting into the food and drink: the night started with a bread basket which consisted of freshly baked and toasted bread.. 5/5. For appetizers we ordered the octopus 5/5, red rice and beans 5/5 (don't sleep on this), the sea shrimp 4/5 (we enjoyed the lentils more than the shrimp) and the winter salad 4/5. For dinner, we order the lamb tagliatelle 4/5 and flat iron steak 5/5! The food was incredible but what was even more incredible were the wine recommendations. We ordered two bottles of red wine that was recommended by our server and each one was better than the other! After dinner, the owner had has peak at their private dinning room that can accommodate 12 guests for a prefix menu! We can't wait to come back and try the prefix menu! This restaurant has everything one would look for, when you want a special night out. There were four of us that had dinner, which included cocktails, wine (by the way, plenty of choices there), incredible food from a taste standpoint and presentation. Add to this attentive service and classy ambiance, you have the recipe for a fine evening. I had the maple leaf Duck, which was delicious and not the slightest bit greasy. Other had the venison (no gaminess), filet mignon (perfection) and the miso-glazed Norwegian salmon (beautiful). Of course, for the show-stopper there was table-side served Bananas Foster. Also a delicate apple mille feuille. The desserts were wonderfully sweet, but not too sweet. As I see another review post, this place will likely be the next Michelin star restaurant in Long Beach! read more

Their location is not the most ideal. It is best to valet your car. Then, leave it up to the restaurant to take care of you. Leave the life's stress outside. Food and drinks are what you come for at this restaurant and what you come back for plus the friendly staff. It can be in the pricey side but you are up for an adventure and food coma. Yes, that good! If you don't like to be pampered while you dine and embibe ( yup, I said dine and embibe on beverage of your choice) then, this is not for you. As for me, I want no drama, yes on professional and attentive service and yes on a food experience of my life. We had our Mother's Day brunch celebration at Chez Bacchus today. We arrived an hour before the end of brunch. The quiche sampler was already sold out. First disappointment, as several people at our table were planning on ordering this dish. My son ordered the prix fix menu which was to come with a citrus sorbet. When they served it, he got vanilla ice cream instead as they ran out of the citrus sorbet. We then ordered additional desserts for the rest of the table, then the waitress came back and told us they were sold out of the desserts we had requested. Needless to say, we were perpetually disappointed throughout the meal, and embarrassed for our guests. While the ambiance and the waitress was very nice, the chef is not effectively planning for the amount of food necessary for serving, especially on Mother's Day. Makes me wonder if that is why the portions were so small today. That was a disappointment too. read more

Hmm. Really wanted to love this spot but it fell short in a few ways. #1- they do not have full bar as advertised on Yelp. They do a wine based cocktail deal. Not my favorite. Their wine list is just okay. Very moderate. Appetizers we very interesting, not in a good way. Duck confit was not executed properly. Short rib was good. Shrimp pasta dish was okay, but not vegetarian like the waiter described (had pork lardons). Pork chop was good. Service was decent, but not amazing. Owner was very nice! read more

It pains me to leave this review because we were so excited to try Chez Bacchus after taking a look at other people's experiences, but this was one of the worst Long Beach dining outings I've had, especially for a place that positions itself as upscale. From start to finish it was a bit of a disaster. They got our drink order wrong and then tried to convince us to keep the drink that we didn't order instead of getting what we asked for. They also got one of our soup orders incorrect and then said that the wrong soup was better anyway so we should just take that one instead...? They were frantic about clearing our appetizer plates, which we had to ask them to leave since we were still working on the food, and when they rushed back to clear them we thought that was because our entrees were ready (BTW our first choice of entree wasn't available, so we opted for something else). Boy were we wrong. We waited almost an hour between apps and getting our main courses. Not once did anyone stop by to give us an update, meanwhile we were watching tables who were seated well after us receiving their food. When we finally did get our food, it was fine, but nothing spectacular (and certainly not worth the wait). Our server then informed us since we waited for so long she'd would comp us a soufflé, which took another 20 minutes after our meal was finished to come out. Overall it was a looong night of constant misses and mediocre food. I'm so bummed that this was our experience because it looks like others have had a fabulous time, but we won't be going back. read more

My best friend and I had a girls night at Chez Bacchus last week and had an absolute blast! From the moment we walked in until we said our goodbyes, we had a grade A experience. We had the fresh bread platter, which was so unqiue and loved that they made the breads in house! Then we shared the beet salad and hamachi (fresh fish) appetizer. We could not stop raving about these dishes! Even days later, we couldnt stop talking about them. The mixture of flavors was unbelievably delicious! For our main courses we had the rabbit meatloaf and fresh halibut. We were a little weary of the rabbit but wanted to be daring and try something new and it was surpringly really tasteful! Halibut was a 10/10 and so flaky! Cooked to perfection. Lastly, we had the strawberry icre cream dessert that they lit on fire! A MUST HAVE at the end of your meal. Oh, we also asked our server to choose the wines paired to our dishes which was the best decision! We will definitely be back for the incredible food and outstanding service. read more

I highly recommend the brunch on Saturday and Sunday if you like a relaxed setting, excellent food, and personalized service. The staff is highly knowledgeable about food and wine pairings, and I don't think there's a better place in Long Beach if you want a memorable meal. Street parking can be a problem, however they now have valet service in the evening, so I'll definitely be coming back here for dinner. read more

My son took me today for brunch. It's a good thing we went hungry because we couldn't decide on just one or two items so we ordered five. Every single plate they brought to our table was feast for the eyes first, and an Incredibly delicious feast for the palate. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all our questions and helped us narrow it down because we wanted to order everything. We got the short rib, the summer salad, the quiche flight, and the ricotta toast. All of them were absolutely amazing. Our glasses were never empty and our waiter was very attentive as was the owner/Sommelier and his lovely vivacious wife. They make you feel like you just walked into their home, they are so accommodating and friendly. We ordered Sadie's pastries to go and if I wasn't so full I probably would have finished the entire selection as they were all so excellent as well. We had recently been eating out at a few different restaurants, mostly steakhouses, to celebrate my 70th birthday but this was by far the best experience of the entire celebration. Our family loved this restaurant for brunch! All of the food was so fresh, different and wonderful! The pastries plate was so great to share and we were able to try so many different things we never would have. The mimosas were made with fresh orange juice and tasted amazing, there were so many drinks that I can't wait to try! The staff was great, friendly, attentive and welcoming! Our waiter brought us samples of amazing wine to try and since my mom didn't drink, he even brought her a special non alcoholic drink to try! He explained the menu, gave recommendations and answered all of our questions. We were looking at the menu outside the door and were greeted immediately. The atmosphere was elegant and felt perfect for a romantic dinner or a friendly meal with friends. The menu itself was very enticing and set high expectations. I was not disappointed at all. Wyatt, our friendly bartender, was knowledgeable about everything available and made some great suggestions. The entire staff was just as attentive to our requests, even accommodating dietary needs. I had to restrain myself from asking for the chef to come out so that i could thank them in person. The food was truly inspired, the libations were perfection and desserts were divine. It was nice to see how the regulars were greeted by the staff, knowing that we received the same welcome upon our own arrival. And when the owner comes running out of the restaurant to deliver your forgotten hat... you know they truly care about their patrons. I will be returning and bringing friends. Great people! The owners as well as the staff were incredibly welcoming as well as knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients in each dish. Upon entering the restaurant you are greeted with a comfortable and warm environment. The drinks were delicious, I had a slight problem where a fly landed in my drink (to no fault of the restaurant) and the staff quickly took the drink and provided me with another one with no issue. They even offered to replace the drink with another in case I wanted to try something else on the menu. We only bought the bread as an appetizer but it was fresh and excellent! For our entrees we got the Duck and the Pork chop which both well portioned, had great flavor, and were creatively constructed. Needless to say we got to-go boxes! The only criticism I would have is that after we finished eating it took about 30 minutes for them to take our plates but I believe the staff was just trying not to rush our meal. We then got the kettle corn crème brûlée and the Warm butter cake which were both delicious and the perfect size for a dessert after a filling meal. Overall I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you are looking for a fine dining experience that still feels warm and inviting. read more
