For the supposed best chicken parm in JC this was an abysmally bad order. I literally went back to Reddit to be sure this was actually the one people recommended. Soggy breading falling off, not a hint of salt or seasoning, and for THIRTY FOUR AMERICAN DOLLARS?? Tf? We also got fritto misto which is listed as calamari, shrimp, long hots, lemon, and gravy. Not a single shrimp. Not one. A few peppers. No lemon no sauce. You can't throw three peppers in regular calamari and call it something else so you can charge $19 for it. Where are the shrimp? Where the flavor? This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had, and I've been to a Guy Fieri restaurant so that's saying something. read more

I've come here twice now. The first time was fantastic and the second time, it seemed like the food wasn't as great. Went out to Chickie's on a Tuesday night to celebrate a friends birthday. We had 6 in our party. Upon arrival at 6:45pm for our reservation, it was pretty quiet in the restaurant - but by 7PM the place was packed! Definitely recommend making a reservation. Once we were seated, I could fully appreciate the ambiance of the space. A cool vibe, and the playlist was also really great - I Shazammed a few songs while we waited for our food and drinks. Everything we ordered was great. Starting with the Amalfi Toast cocktail, paired with our Frito Misto (fried calamari), clams casino, and the garlic bread. All delish! The clams casino come 6 to an order, so order accordingly! Moving on to our main course, I paired the orange wine (yum) with the salmon picata. It struck the perfect balance of lemony without being too strong. The salmon came with a pretty large helping of zucchini and squash. I wish instead of so much squash, maybe some rice or something. Others at the table got the parm platter - which was a very generous portion and comes with the spicy rigatoni. And when I say rigatoni, I mean the good big sized rigatoni (the real Italians will know). What would a meal be without a little liquid dessert. I opted for the Va Fan-Gool, a modern take on the grasshopper. It was like a perfect mint chip cocktail. It's served over ice in the coup, but I wish they had removed the ice - just gets in the way when trying to sip. Overall, highly recommend for a modern Italian spot in Jersey City. read more

At first I thought, here we go, another pizza/pasta based menu in Jersey City, but this was easily a 5 star visit for me. I highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. The space is tiny! Expect to be seated close-ish to others. It makes the experience feel intimate, almost like you're in someone's home. They do have bar seating but it's first come, first served! We arrived a little early for our reservation and fortunately were able to grab some seats at the bar while we waited. They have a generous selection of cocktails, including frozen. The bartenders were so friendly and shared recommendations with us while we chatted. Once seated we were quickly greeted by our sever (Janna) who gave us the run down of most popular dishes, how to order and what to pair together. She was amazing! She made the experience for us. We started with the meatballs and burrata. Both perfect to share. Dinner we opted for the chicken parm with spicy rigatoni and vodka sauce AND then stracciatlla pizza. I can't recommend a better combination! When I got back I'd love to stay if try something else, but I'd order the exact same thing. We were liking the sauce of the plates. To finish out the night we had to order the tiramisu. I am confident it's the best one I've had in Hoboken/Jersey City. Big thank you to Janna for making our night. I'm always looking for good Italian in Jersey City, and while there are endless options for pizza and pasta dishes, few places check all of the boxes. Chickie's is one of the exceptions. I had never been to GP's, which used to occupy this space, so I wasn't quite sure what I was walking into upon entering. Chickie's is much larger than it appears from the outside, with a front bar area and a back hallway that extends to offer more dining options. As for the food, my fiancé and I opted to split a traditional Italian fare as well as a pizza. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan with Spicy Rigatoni and Stracciatella Pizza in order to try a little bit of everything. I'm a huge fan of spicy pasta sauces, and boy, did the Spicy Rigatoni deliver - I could eat the sauce by itself! Tons of flavor while not being overly spicy. The chicken was juicy and flavorful as well, and the pizza had a nice, crispy crust, although it was a bit difficult to bite into. If the food isn't enough of a selling point, this place has a killer Espresso Martini; easily the best one I've had in Jersey City, and I've tried them at nearly every restaurant I've ever been to around here. It was very smooth and creamy, exactly the post-pasta pick-me-up that I needed. I can't wait to come back! read more

Stopped by here on a Friday night. We were able to get a table without a reservation and without waiting which is a score. Servers here were kind, attentive and service was fast. We got a couple different things...mussels in red sauce -I'd give this an 8...the sauce was pretty solid and flavorful...next the seafood fra diavolo was pretty good as well I'd give it an 8 as too....The dish that was I was most excited about trying fell flat for me and it was the spicy rigatoni. The flavor of the sauce was there but the actual noodles were a bit gummy..maybe they needed to be cooked longer...I'll give that a 6. We finished off with the tiramisu and that was pretty good... I will say I would come back here and try some other things off the menu before I write them off. read more

I was in the mood for eggplant tonight and after reading many Yelp reviews recommended Chickie's. First, it's a beautiful restaurant with a bright fresh interior. I sat at the bar and the server was friendly, welcoming and attentive. I had the house salad first. It contained field greens, fried taleggio cheese, pears and pine nuts. It was delicious. I came here specifically for rhe eggplant and rigatoni in a spicy sauce. The pasta was cooked spot on, cooked al dente with as advertised spicy sauce. The eggplant, although tasty, was a disappointment. It came out hot, with melty cheese. Yet, the eggplant was more like a dish of breading. It was hard to distinguish the eggplant in the mix. Maybe it was later on a Sunday and they were at the end of their pan. Still, it was a $28.00 dish, I'd expected more. I had a wonderful aperol spritz and a seltzer to go with it. Overall: Good place for standard Italian food if you are okay with a bit of noise as you eat. I would recommend a reservation for peak dinner time (6-8pm). Location: It's a relatively small space, but they have bar seating for about 10 and about 15 tables. It's pretty loud inside - the space echos a bit and they are playing Italian music relatively loud to try to mask the noise. Service: Service was great - super quick, food came coursed out, and staff was attentive. Food: Menu is pretty standard for an Italian restaurant - pizzas, parms, and a few other classics. Mostly red sauce items, nothing really outside the box. Mozzarella sticks - pretty standard app. Comes with 5 sticks. The sauce is quite good. Burrata - The hot honey vinaigrette coating the burrata was great; I think burrata should always be served that way! I also was pleasantly surprised with the amount of arugula. Stracciatella square pizza - Pizza was great, nice and crispy with the perfect amount of cheese. It's Detroit-style pizza and came with 4 large slices -- we ate 2 there and took 2 home. Eggplant parm with side of spicy rigatoni - This was the only let down. The eggplant parm was a bit too heavy on the breadcrumbs for me. i came across this place as i was walking in hamilton park. it's very conveniently located and has nice outdoor seating with a large umbrella in case it rains. the pizza was $23 but i was pleasantly surprised to see how thick it was! it was tasty, had lots of toppings, and lasted me two days. i got the milk + honey cocktail and it was pretty good. it didn't really taste like milk or honey, but it was good nonetheless~ also my server was very sweet and responsive to all my questions. i'd like to come back to try what else they have! read more

Started looking around Jersey City for new restaurants aside from the usual staples and came across Chickie's. (Thanks Hoboken Girl) I was pleasantly surprised by the food and ambience. We got the red mussels and chicken parm with vodka sauce and spicy rigatoni. By the end of the dinner, there wasn't a drop of sauce left. We even ordered extra bread to sop up the rest of it. Finished the evening with the tiramisu and a shot of espresso. Would definitely come back here for the excellent food, service and ambience and would recommend it to anyone looking for an Italian fix. read more

I'm excited to write about my amazing experience at Chickie's in Jersey City. My GF and I kicked it off with a couple Amalfi Toast cocktails (Prosecco, peach, aperol, lemon). Let's just say we had more than more than one. For starters, we had the stracciatella square pizza and mozzarella sticks and for our main, we split the chicken parm with spicy rigatoni. From start to finish, the food, service, and ambiance was premo. As two self-proclaimed vodka sauce pizza connoisseurs, we can confidently say that Chickie's square pizza is one of the best vodka sauce pies in town. From the perfectly crispy yet airy crust to the delectable vodka sauce to the beautiful, creamy stracciatella, this pie was perfect. The mozzarella sticks were an absolute delight. Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, delicious all around. They'll give you the cheese pull of your instagram dreams... if you can manage not to eat them first! Finally, came the star of the meal -- chicken parm with spicy vodka rigatoni. Simply put, this dish was heavenly. Crispy, juicy chicken, warm, gooey mozzarella, and spicy but not too spicy, al dente rigatoni. The generous portion is easily enough for two after splitting a few appetizers. A hard NO on this one. Such a bizarre experience. HEADS UP - They delete negative comments on their Instagram page; they don't want "negative comments that were added to people's positive experiences". Made a reservation over a week out, went to the restaurant early to have a drink at the bar with my daughter and future son-in-law, as I'd come up from Miami and we were celebrating (she said Yes to a Dress;)). At 7:30, went and told hostess we were here, and was reminded our reserve was at 7:45 - not a "Great, we'll get you when we have your table", it was a, "Come back at 7:45". No problem, we are comfy at the bar. 7:45 - returned to hostess. She was super snippy with a "We're cleaning your table, give us a minute!" Turns out, Miss Snippy, Ariana, is also the Manager. It was so weird and unpleasant that, as soon as we sat down, my daughter wanted to leave. I was the idiot that said we should stay. :/ Waitress came, took our order, came back a little while later with our drinks, and then....never saw her again. We'd ordered the Chicken Parm, Shrimp Scampi, the cheese bread, and the Frito Misto. Food was meh (the Parm was a mess on the plate), nothing special. The Frito Misto- FAIL. It's listed as "crispy-calamari, shrimp, long hots, gravy". We got calamari. Asked one of the runners (cuz, no waitress) if we got the right order. So out comes a little bowl with, what looks to be shrimp (or fish?) that's been chopped up and fried. Really? We're sitting at the table well after we're done and finally ask a runner to get the Manager. Tell her how disappointed we are, and I ask her to look at our table and tell me if it looks like a server has been here recently - it was littered with empty plates and glasses. No answer. Then Ariana, proceeds to tell us that "we were early, and asked for our table 4 times!" We are now in the Twilight Zone. I tell her we came early to have a cocktail before dinner, and we NEVER asked to be seated early, and fyi, that that was more money in your till (typically restaurants LIKE when you spend $ at the bar). We ask for the check, and THEN our waitress appears, stands at our table and says, loudly, "You are the worst couple I've ever served! (There was THREE of us), and turns and leaves. Which we do as well. Tipping accordingly. My daughter and I have both reached out to Chickies and their rep has told us numerous times now how, Everybody else Loves Miss Snippy and the Server, that 99.9% of people love them, never had a single complaint, or ever notices any attitude from them. Oh, and everyone's "perception" is different. Ah, we're the problem. Got it. The one question that the rep refuses to answer, that we've asked numerous times is - What did we do, or say, that was so egregious as to warrant that kind of behavior towards us?? I don't care if we asked 101 times about our table, if that rifles you then honey, put on your helmet or get out of the hospitality business. The only thing we got was, "the server and manager both felt that your group (3 of us) was being very rude to them". HOW? Exactly, HOW? I have enough integrity and humility to admit when I'm wrong, and offer an apology, and I would LOVE to know exactly what it was that was said or done on our part. But they can't answer that. Chickies has 99 problems. But I won't be one. read more

First time here - was a Friday night and sat indoors. Nice temperature - not too hot, as some places can be during the summer. Starting with the food, the square buffalo chicken pizza was one of the best pizzas I've had - very decadent, though, so definitely not a light dish. And a really generous portion. The chicken parm entree with vodka sauce and spicy rigatoni was delicious. In my top two chicken parms, but not quite crispy enough to take the number one spot. And again, extremely generous portion. The two cocktails I had were lovely - both the aperol spritz inspired amalfi toast and the apple martini. apple martini tasted just like apple juice, which I loved! Four star review instead of 5 because the indoor space felt very cramped and hectic on a busy friday night - service was a bit slow and folks were back and forth through the aisle behind our seats constantly, possibly because we were near the kitchen. We came here as a party of 6 for a birthday. We hadn't been since they opened. We ordered a bunch of apps and pizzas for the table. The hot pepperoni was by far the winner! It has hot honey on it and it's incredibly delicious. The gluten free pizza is delicious! Probably my favorite in JC! The interior is small but so cute. The staff is great. Signature drinks were outstanding. I've never known this group to order drinks off a menu. They all did and they all ordered multiple rounds! The espresso martinis were my favorite. There's certainly potential. I think the rating is more of a "tough love" approach, but reflects the food experience more than it does anything else. Because that's really what it should be about right? Right - but it seems as though they got everything else stunningly right. Better than that in fact, as the place is unbelievably gorgeous. The decor, and all the elements from the flooring to the light fixtures is amazing - tons of $$$$ spent. But the food doesn't get the TLC the structures have received unfortunately. Yes, the pizza was nice and new/ interesting, but the meatballs, salad, and other app lacked anything special. The meatballs were actually poor, bad texture and not great taste. The portions are also just not matching the perfection of the place. Meatballs are HUGE, 3 pieces, and the pizza toasts provided with the cheese dip ran out before the first few dips. ALL that Cheese gone to waste! Overall, I'd say with some more attention to the food, this place can become a real success. read more

A new spot to check out in my town had to take a look for myself. The menu itself was pretty straight forward with not a crazy selection to get overwhelmed by. I chose the meatball to start, which was pretty big in size with whipped ricotta on top. My friend had the clams which were really tiny so you can definitely eat that by yourself. I went for the chicken parm with vodka sauce and spicy rigatoni as my main. The portion was huge and I was thrown off by the one tiny bone. The chicken itself was cooked well and I loved how spicy the sauce was overall. I was too stuffed to have dessert, but need to go back for that tiramisu. It was a good experience and I will go back to try more items. FYI the tables are very close to each other, so you will not find much space here. read more

The stracciatella was surprisingly delicious and definitely worth a try.
